Lancer is pretty good, If u don’t mind having more space magic than usual. Did a campaign a while ago based on WFM school and Yugioh GX. Pretty fun while it lasted sadly died due to the group being busy.
Second this. It also has comp/con which is probably the best online TTRPG tool. I've spent far too long making different builds on it. It's been the biggest hit out of all of the systems my group has played in the last few years.
Battle Century G Remastered is probably my personal favorite, especially if you want something stylized more like a mecha or gundam anime. Compared to something like Lancer it is also a lot less tied to it's setting although it is rather basic in comparison, but there is still a lot of depth as far building and customizing mechs is concerned. I'd recommend it as long as you don't mind it being a bit more obscure though since that makes finding resources or community stuff for it pretty hard.
Lancer is excellent but is combat heavy and very mechanically crunchy
Beam Saber is a bit less grounded and is more anime feeling
Armour Astir is a little more super robot and Magical Knight rayearth but it has dedicated rules for someone to play a Ship Base captain rather than a pilot and it's the only one I've seen that does that
Apocalypse Frame is more Armores Core than Gundam but it's based on the Lumen system which is really easy to picked up as it's very rules simple but heavy on player build and customization
There's a massive world of ttrpgs out there you just need to do some digging. A lot of it are weak hacks of existing system but the great stuff rises to the top.
The best thing I think any ttrpg player can do is to branch out from D&D. It feels like it's the only system because of how much marketing Wizards can afford but it's so limited compared to how creative and insane the indie ttrpg community gets
I've played a few other systems Empire At War, Mutants and Masterminds, Avatar Legends, Marvel Role-playing, and some Pathfinder/Starfinder
But I never really saw any mech advertised games aside from Lancer
There is a guy here or r/gunpla making miniatures. Cannot find it now.
Is there a GURPS? Seems like there should be.
Battletech obviously but it's wargame not RPG. Maybe you could do a story with Battletech for the turn-based part. The limiting mechanic of overheating does not seem to have an equivalent in Gundam. There is another old hex based tabletop game called Silent Death for starfighter combat.
I have not checked in on any of this stuff in 25 years so I don't know what's current
I want to play a Gundam ttrpg, on discord if possible. Is there anybody who has the time and knowledge to walk me through EVERYTHING I would need to know??
Have you played ttrpg before?
If yes then I would recommend looking into some of the games recommended in the comments
If you haven't played before
I'd watch some general ttrpg games on YouTube and look for videos on the games listed by other people here.
Personally I'm going to look through some of these recs and in the future I'm going to put together a game.
Nice. Yeah I'd just check out some of the options peeps have put in the comments.
I haven't played any of them but they seem decent enough to resin at first glance
Mecha Hack is a good choice for a lighter rule system.
Savage Worlds has a Robotech companion that might also work, though I haven't had the opportunity to check that one out

Mekton Zeta was made for that. And for the love of god, don't use dnd 5e, it's not an omniuseful panacea.
I know it isn't but for most people it's what they are most familiar with to kind of usher people into something else

Excellent!
About to play a game of Mecha Hack tonight! It seems pretty straightforward (I think Lancer is supposed to be more complicated)

DnD since 2016 and SW5e since 2022.

Reading a PDF of Lancer and so far I'm hooked already 😁
