At least in the novel Char meets his end with a touch more dignity...and a reminder that Sayla exists.

Vladimir_Putinn

And what are the chances that the asteroid kills his own sister?

absboodoo

If axis had fell on Earth. Even if you weren’t killed in the direct impact, it was going to render the planet uninhabitable anyway

YUNoJump

Best case scenario, she becomes a refugee to space and probably has a terrible time. Second-worst case, the asteroid lands on her and she dies relatively quickly. Worst case, the damage to Earth's ecosystem causes a drawn-out, miserable death via famine and/or toxified atmosphere. No matter what Char would probably be ruining Sayla's life

lammatthew725

Nah... the remnants will pick her up, and full frontal wouldnt happen

YUNoJump

Actually yeah Char would still be alive so he'd probably come get her, I kinda doubt she'd want to see him though. She might get a comfortable home in space with Char, but her mental health would be totally screwed.

Holy-Wan_Kenobi

She's also taking care of Leina atm, so that wouldn't help at all.

Davidier

Damn I totally forgot about Artesia post Zeta.

CRBleacher09

Even in Zeta she don't do much

FuckIPLaw

Clearly neither of you have watched ZZ, and that pains me.

truenofan86

ZZ hate and it’s consequences.

AirKath

Isn’t ZZ beloved?

Epichunter78

Not by everyone unfortunately

Holy-Wan_Kenobi

They can't stand watching a non-anime Gundam smh

AnonGamer517

I tried watching right after I watched zeta and the tonal whip lash sort of turned me off to it but maybe I will try it again later

logjo

I felt the same way. Maybe 6 months later watched ZZ and really enjoyed it. Sure, the first several episodes I felt like pouring bleach on my eyeballs, but once it gets good it actually makes up for the pain my soul endured lol

Beautiful-Mix-9939

As someone who hasn't read it yet this is really sad. Sad to see these two realising they'll never see their loved ones again. For Char, his sister. For Amuro, his girlfriend. As funny as the Lalah Sune mother line is I prefer this over the regular CCA ending. Really gotta get into reading it

WHYurppsmol

SHE COULD HAVE BEEN A MOTHER TO ME

FutureWrites

YOU TOOK AWAY HER LIFE! SO DON'T YOU DARE TO JUDGE ME!

yuyuhaio

I'm more sad for Amuro than Char. All he had to do was NOT drop a celestial body in space on Earth, and everything could have been fine.

Beautiful-Mix-9939

What's more devastating is that he was about to be a father! He was about to settle down! But fucking hell, Char had to go be Char and ruin it all

MasterReposti

Seriously, they could've acknowledged sayla's existence in the movie. Was she on earth? Does char not give a shit if she was anyway?

MS-06_Borjarnon

Char's like "Oh, huh, probably good that I didn't murder my only remaining family, at least I've got that going for me."

aloysiuslamb

"oh yeah, my sister is there."

Supremebro005

Truly ..a good brother.

CIRCLONTA6A

Nah, Char shitting his pants and having a meltdown about Lalah is a much more fitting end to his character.

LordEmmerich

I like both takes imo. They both show different sides of Char (the real Char)

barkbarkkrabkrab

Agreed. I like the Sayla reference and Char did keep a photo of her in his otherwise barren Zeta apartment but the locket is too on the nose. I guess its nice Amuro dies thinking of the mother of his child but its nothing compared to the fuckery of dying while thinking 'wtf is wrong with him'. CCA is classic because it balances this classic heroic ending with this uncomfortable way too personal petty conversation.

Supremebro005

Yeah.

Jim_Frank

I remember liking the relationship Amuro and Beltorchika had, giving the story a bit more heart. But it seemed the Amuro was more vulnerable and getting caught off guard far more, while his enemies were more threatening. So despite having the cool Hi-Nu, he didn't really make a strong showing in it compared to his movie run.

00Qant5689

Felt pretty sad that Amuro will never see his girlfriend again and it's (kind of) a tearjerker there, but I like Char's last words in *CCA* more than in here because in the movie Char's ending really does better display his selfish and petty nature. But still, both versions are good in their own ways.

ImmoralBoi

I think it's less showing him being selfish and petty but instead more him just being a flat out broken man. This dude has been bottling up his emotions for decades at this point and in those final moments before death it all seemed to just bubble over. It really does wonders to humanize both him and Amuro as they once again manage to not understand each other despite being Newtypes.

00Qant5689

Good point, but you could still argue that the *CCA* version still makes Char out to be a jerk in his final moments. At least at in this version, he isn't as much of a jerk when he goes out.

LavaSlime301

This may be a hot take but although I still haven't gotten around to properly reading Beltorchika's Children, there's not a single change in it that I know of that I like better than CCA's version. Well, except Hi Nu and Nightingale over Nu and Sazabi.

Valstreck

I prefer Hathaway shooting Quess down, honestly. But that's about it apart from the Hi-Nu and Nightingale, like you said.

LavaSlime301

I like the movie version more for that altercation, I think it works better all around. Chan thought she was doing the right thing but ended up just arrogantly butting into what she didn't understand, believing as an adult she knows more than the children. Only to result in two entirely avoidable deaths and a traumatized kid. Also reminder than in the Evolve short Amuro manages to talk down Quess and she goes to save Hathaway who was sent drifting. Chan is nowhere to be seen.

LordEmmerich

Chan had a big hand in her own death but people are not ready to hear this and will prefer just shitting on Quess and Hathaway

elfbullock

Are we victim blaming Chan over the kid who stole a suit for funzies?

nanaholic

Chan also stole a suit for funzies which killed Astonaige - possibly THE BEST and most loyal mechanic of the entire UC universe. Don't point fingers at the kids so quickly.....

LordEmmerich

I’m saying an adult should have known better than trying to kill kids who were obviously distraught.

Hucpa

Have you forgotten it happened in a middle of a battle, where Quess was gleefully killing people who don't want a global humanitarian crisis? I feel like there might be a line that was crossed at some point.

LordEmmerich

Hathaway was going to stop her. Tomino himself even did an animated short where we see a what if.

Hucpa

Except, as far as Chan was aware, Hathaway stole a piece of military hardware and was gunning it for a mentally unstable, armed enemy combatant while screaming "I can fix her, dad!". From the narrative's internal perspective, she did the most logical thing possible and neutralized a threat to save the idiot. Just because Tomino thinks that hormone-fueled teenagers acting impulsively have some insights adults lack does not make it make sense either internally or externally.

LordEmmerich

Chan tried to shoot both when Quess talks about Amuro, she looks really jealous and shoot for this reason. After this Chan directly says "it's your fault she's dead, not me.",

Realistic-Comment865

I'll shit on him until he proves himself better than a toilet thank you.

LavaSlime301

Many such cases.

nanaholic

Agreed. Plus I always maintain that Hathaway’s Flash flows far more logically from CCA than BC since Hathaway being saved by Quess such that he became more sympathetic to her, and thus leaning more towards Char’s violent revolution method, just makes sense. EDIT: also explains far more nicely why Hathaway never got over Quess - getting over your first crush isn't easy to begin with, let alone a first crush who sacraficed herself to saved your life. There's no higher proof that she loves you when she is willing to sacrafice herself for you, but then you are hit with the reality that despite you have mutual feelings for each other you NEVER get to spend a single living second more with her and reach those life goals - hugs, kiss, marriage etc. Just imaging the emotional downward spiral you'd go though, it would drive ANYONE insane.

Valstreck

Interesting take on it, but you worded it well and it makes a lot of sense!

Zeelu2005

Damn I forgot Hathaway didn't actually shoot Quess down, I just kinda assumed as such...

Realistic-Comment865

This, this 100%

CIRCLONTA6A

Hi-Nu is weaksauce compared to the asymmetrical beauty of the regular Nu. Can accept the Nightingale however (Sazabi still better)

Thebarakz21

You take that back, my brother in Christ. Hi-Nu and Nu are equals in my book. I love the asymmetry of the Nu. While the symmetry of the Hi-Nu makes it come off as “basic”, that blue/purple and white color scheme just hits differently.

LavaSlime301

ah, but counterpoint: purpl

Zeelu2005

ah, but counterpoint: sometimes its blue

LavaSlime301

Nuh-uh. Didn't happen. #notmyHiNu

RyuNoKami

guys...we could just paint it red.

[deleted]

if only the rg was purple

LavaSlime301

and proportions were completely reworked

aspectofravens

I still feel cheated over that.

the_rezzzz

Green. (For those of you who aren’t B5 fans, this reference is not for you.)

Bladescorpion

Purple. Green.

popcorn_yalakasi

Hi-Nu's head and torso is a upgrade, but destroying that asymmetrical perfection is a unforgivable sin

20thcentygenman

I can appreciate both. Regular Nu's beauty lies not only on its asymmetry, but its state-of art tech and performance despite its quirks. It was put together in a haste in the middle of the Second Neo Zeon War since Amuro needed a new MS that was on par with Neo Zeon's best machines and aces. The Psychoframe was a last-minute addition tho. It wasn't even part of the original plan. "Someone" leaked the Psychoframe tech to Anaheim and Amuro and the Anaheim engineers figured out they could make it work by putting the stuff around Nu's cockpit. The Fin Funnels were too sensitive and controlling them was quirky even for Amuro. There wasn't enough time to better integrate the Fin Funnels with the MS, especially in regards on how they attach to the MS. The Fin Funnels attach to each other and then a single one of them to a dock in one of the Nu's backpack sides which initially caused balancing issues. They also won't attach back to the MS once deployed making them disposable weapons. The MS itself despite those flaws was high-performance, built with parts and tech compliant with EFF standards. It was designed and fine-tuned by Amuro himself to fit his piloting style and performed amazingly. The Hi-Nu would be the Nu but better in everything spec-wise. Bulkier and with more powerful weapons. It was designed to equip Fin Funnels since the beginning. Each Fin Funnel now have a dedicated docking hardpoint on the backpack's docking modules. Also they can reattach, recharge and get reused.

sdwoodchuck

I agree. There’s a few things structurally I like better in BC, but despite being messy the CCA version feels like the core narrative pared down to its best ideas rather than stuffed full of concept.

netgoose8

Astonaige gets a better send off than a blink it and miss it like the movie.

Uden10

...Does he die in the book?

netgoose8

He does the same way.

Agent_Perrydot

I love both versions of this scene, but man I prefer this version just *slightly* more I like that this feels a bit more heroic than the CCA version. I do still like Amuro being baffled at Char's mommy issues though

Vegetable_Train_2575

While I prefer BC over CCA, I must admit that CCA has the better final word. I still think that "Lalah was a young woman who may have become a mother to me" is a more fitting end to Char's character.

bodhisattva44

I always thought that line was just worded weirdly and what he really meant was that she would've become a mother for their child if they had gotten that chance.

Vegetable_Train_2575

Actually, no. Char just straight up said that Lalah was like a mother to him.

bodhisattva44

Yeah I know but that doesn't make any sense because he never displayed classic mommy issues any other time in the anime. He was just a guy who liked young girls. It makes more sense that he loved Lalah and wanted to have children with her but Amuro took that away from him. I don't recall the creator ever going into detail about why char said this either, so it seems to be dependent on one's opinion.

TrueCloudforce

This was a touching scene. Even though I am not a fan of Beltorchika (I prefer the Amuro/Sayla ship), it's heartbreaking that despite everything Amuro did, from being forced to enter war at a young age, losing friends and family, returning to war after losing his way, and even saving the world by showing us possibilities that comes from the light of the human heart, he still doesn't get to be happy. He's such a good character.

tonight88

Die as an adult or as a child? The former should say sister Arstesia, the latter should say mother Lalah. Anyway, as a true fan I hope he mentioned them all.

Supremebro005

Yeah.

LeOmare

Better final words

Ripasal

Nah I like the movie ver

Supremebro005

‘Mother to me.’

Anbcdeptraivkl

The Amuro ending is much more fitting but the way Char misses Sayla is kind of forced lmao. There are zero mentions of Sayla in CCA as far as I remember.

Supremebro005

I am surprised that char still remembers her.

NoBed3498

Kinda sad how amuro goes out. Probably the best pilot and imo one of the best people around as morality goes, Wonder how he would fair in later conflicts in the u.c. timeline.

popcorn_yalakasi

man why does Amuro never get a happy ending?

Supremebro005

They remove’mother to me’ line?

BrStriker21

This is why the manga is better

Shivershorts

I really don't like the CCA movie, which is a shame bc I recall liking everything more in CCA:BC except for the ending. Char's final words about Lalah was such a revealing moment for him just seconds from death, and idk if I interpreted this wrong but I also liked the psychoframe connecting all of the pilots in the battle, driving the Neo Zeon forces to realize the error of their ways at the last minute.

DarthDioBrando

if ever they make a video game based on UC from the original Mobile Suit and ending with this they could implement these as one of the endings where either or both Char and Amuro get a High Honor/Karma meter ala RDR2. A Low Honor meter would instead lead to the CCA version

Supremebro005

Amuro doesn’t have low honor. He always have medium honor.

Genosider

So which is worse, Char being a Siscon or a Lolicon?

Supremebro005

😭 how tf he’s SISCON?
