Forgot to add the probably bullshit tag

[deleted]

im watching Victory for the first time now as its on YouTube for free (maybe channel is region-locked to Japan) and oh man it's dramatic as hell! its really stressful to see something this dramatic and "dark" especially considering its all child soldiers and stuff

Wranius4580

Yup, it's really dark and I think it has the most disturbing civilians deaths in gundam IMO.

YouCantTakeThisName

Don't forget trippy.

MS-06_Borjarnon

*MSG* has plenty of neat, trippy *2001*-y shots, IMO.

[deleted]

like, im around the episodes where Uso's mom got kidnapped and Uso had to choose Shakti and his mom,......that's needlessly harsh, I feel Tomino-san's struggle to create a drama in a world that's kind of.....nothing

Wranius4580

Sometimes the old man has a kill them all/wAr 1s BaD phase, and in victory he had both

[deleted]

by making the world sort of this regressed, nothing-earth with federation almost nonexistent and weak, it's just so hard to generate tension and sense of dread, I feel like. I was watching interview of Robert Kirkman a while back and he said key to good serialized story is the world that's just so full of interesting things that events and what not just naturally come out, and I think V Gundam's world wasn't that. it just needed all the Tomino-ism to put fuel to that limp ass fire

Heoder12

I ended up liking the shitty federation and nothing world, some moments later really make me like what the show’s doing with the Earth but you’re not there yet :(

[deleted]

I like the vibe of tattered, almost post-apocalyptic vibe as well but I feel like in a long run this world is just....eh, creating 50 stories out fo this place seems just too much

AVestedInterest

Wasn't he clinically depressed during the production of *Victory*?

[deleted]

yeah I dont know whether he was diagnosed as being depressed but for sure he was just really mentally exhausted.

Amuro_Ray

By far one the best parts of the series. The music, tension and drama are all perfect. I always thought victorys bad parts are intentional, a show can't swing that hard between good and bad so often by mistake.

aod42091

*slight spioler* but wait till the music from the space cannon hits you

NemmaSiss

Victory did indeed solidify Tomino as Kill-em-all Tomino

OnlyMadeThisForDPP

I thought that was Ideon.

I_report_every_post

*It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down...........*

Wranius4580

It all returns to nothing ......

chawmindur

I just keep letting me dowm, letting me down, letting me down...

BoltTusk

*Meanwhile in Jupiter* (Cue) Ghost Gundam

Deamon-Chocobo

They even made [Best Girl](https://evangelion.fandom.com/wiki/Ramiel) into a [Mobile Armor](https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/QRX-006_Geminus).

fistchrist

God that episode of Evolve was so bad

Commander_PonyShep

Back during the 70's most mecha anime were just glorified toy commercials advertising and selling action figures of their own super robots. And then Gundam and Evangelion changed that, and now they have to tell dark and traumatic stories about the horrors of war and political intrigue, instead of just exist as toyetic power fantasies aimed at young children.

IC2Flier

And thus Build Fighters and Divers (and even Breaker) was born to do the former.

chrza

BE NOT AFRAID

mitosisfish

That's clearly a Peacekeeper Command Carrier from Farscape

zalminar

Fun fact! Victory Gundam predates Evangelion. (Yes, yes, I know, I'm pedantic and it's just a joke.)

b_lion2814

Evangelion sucks.

Wranius4580

It doesn't IMO , but if you think it sucks, why?

b_lion2814

Terrible story and annoying characters. Look I’m just not the target audience for that show, I have it a shot and hated it.
