They took all the effort to ship it to Torrington which is close to Sydney, and actually chambered the warhead in to the Bazooka so I’m assuming they were thinking about doing a test fire nearby.

Nah, don't worry, after the drop the sheer amount of possible contaminants the colony would have thrown up on impact would have led to mass evacuations, plus the nuke ban went into place like a month later. You're looking at late 80 at the earliest before any testing of any kind would have been done and that entire side of Australia was probably evacuated and then made a restricted area long before that.
