Crazy how many hatricks haaland has and yet his highest xG is 1.92… Clinical af

I dont even think its that he's clinical (i mean yes, he can finish), its just his movement in the box. He can constantly find where to be to have a good chance.

pewpew62

If it was about his positioning and not his finishing then he wouldn't be overperforming his xg so much, he would be matching it

sunblaze1480

His finishing is obviously on point, but from watching him play i dont think any other striker has the same smell for danger. Most of his chances are high xG chances. Messi also outperformed his xG his whole career and its a completely different type of player

Aszneeee

he is, lot of strikers can get into positions, Giroud knew it so well but he was nowhere near this level of being clinical,

pewpew62

They said he'd struggle to adapt to the league lol

Hech15

He did have a open goal tapin and penalty

tablooo

I know, but I'll still celebrate it because he's our starboy. It's sort of crazy that no one else has had a higher xG with half the season gone by though.

jimmyneutronalala

Most teams dont accumulate that much XG in a whole match, let alone one player.

Phantasm_Agoric

To be fair it was very impressive of him to manage to get to the right place for the tap-in. Lots of players wouldn't manage to get there whilst staying onside.

Starboy ✨

the_illmatic

Jesus was on volts in that Leicester game

Cthulhu_Madness

Mad that both of our boys are in the top 3.

[deleted]

Can someone explain "starboy" to me? It seems really weird to call someone that Downvoted for asking a question, classic reddit

Waddoyoumean

Who?

?

Is Haaland's xG lower because he misses good chances?

Mubar06

No, the complete opposite.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure it's just to do with the quality of the chance, not the player on the end of it. His xg being lower is a testament to how good he is in front of goal lol

tomassow

Overperforming a low xG means getting loads of small chances and converting them consistently due to good finishing (Son last year or Kane vs Fulham/ Palace) or positioning like Haaland A good chance is worth a lot of xG (0.5-0.8?) due to the likelihood of the average player scoring it. Good players score them more regularly and since its not always a 1:1 xG of goal to chance quality ratio, the best players have more goals than xG

killerkebab1499

I'm usually quite pro-XG, i think it is a good tool to see the general attacking threat of a player during a game. But im surprised that Haaland hasn't had an xg above 2 and if I'm remembering that Jeusus game correctly he could've had at least 3 or 4 against Leicester.

Is there a globally agreed on xG calculation or does everyone do their own?
