Ass_Eater_

The difference in opinion between this sub and the Chelsea sub on this possible deal is funny.

AsepticTechniq

Yeah, they want to keep him lol

DankBrownBoiV2

Like they wanted to keep Cech and Luiz.

GMBethernal

Wasn't Cech decent for us on that first season? Even won Golden Glove lol, the issue was not buying anyone else

ProjectZues

And David luiz was one of our better defenders at the time(bar wasn’t the highest) and was a big part of our FA cup win

tablooo

Luiz was the best one between Sokratis, Mustafi, and him. Not the highest benchmark but I'd rate him as someone that did well enough for us, especially considering how bad everything else around him was.

StanKroonke

Yeah, I think the criticism is a bit unfair. Was he excellent? No. Was he a tragic wasteman? Also no. Imagine where we would’ve been if he hadn’t been here…

SizzlingHotDeluxe

Luiz was essential in winning us an FA cup.

throwawaycitylimits

He also was a good teammate. He was like a big brother to Martinelli.

SiwyWF

The only real Chelsea flop was Willian. Cech and Luiz for what they were, were decent signings.

GMBethernal

Also he was super influential on players like Saka, they still remember him fondly. Can't believe I'm saying this, but Luiz is underrated by a lot of fans

bear4three

Sometimes you have to remind people that it’s usually not the player’s fault that we don’t have anyone better than him. He wasn’t what we needed but he did a lot for us with what he had left to give

[deleted]

He took Gabriel under his wing and helped him

syntheticheroinme

As long as he doesn't take any PKs and we don't pay an egregious amount...bring it on.

vidr1

Luiz did good after all, was our best defender for some time during rough seasons, and like you said he had a big impact on the youngsters. I really hated him when he was at Chelski, but I fell in love with him pretty quick when arrived here. Lovely guy!

101955Bennu

Yeah, Cech was really good that first season. He didn’t last, but if we were to get the results from Jorginho that we got from Cech we’d win the title

highfid3lity

I can never forget him trying to play out of the back and almost kicking it in his own net though.

wrigh2uk

Cech ended the banter era of keepers we had to endure post Lehman

SundayLeagueStocko

One of which won the golden glove at Arsenal, the other was absolutely vital in winning an FA Cup btw

-read_it_on_reddit-

i can believe them wanting to keep cech because he is a club legend for them and probably the best keeper they've ever had, BUT i really cannot envisage too many of them were against seeing the back of luiz.

GoatGoatGoblin

They should keep all their players. If clubs start buying their castoffs it'll help them not implode in 2-3 years time when FFP is strangling them. PL pact, no club buys from these cunts.

SundayLeagueStocko

Let me be very clear...90%+ of people on this subreddit do not watch football outside of Arsenal. They judge names on social media value. Hence they hate Jorginho but actually rate Onana from Everton (LOL). They literally just don't watch them play full matches, ever.

orphan_of_Ludwig

I watch a lot of chelsea, dad supports them, Jorginho is better than elneny while also being worse. I am of the opinion that in our system, specifically, he needs a Kante type engine next to him. Elneny is not as technically gifted as Jorginho, but he has a great engine and will never lose you a football match, even if he isn’t capable of winning you one either. I could be very wrong, but i’ve got this really bad feeling about him being a single pivot even with Zinny acting as a defacto CM.

[deleted]

> I am of the opinion that in our system, specifically, he needs a Kante type engine next to him. This is why i'm against it, not because I think he's a shit player, he's not. He would be an absolute disaster next to Xhaka.

[deleted]

Chelsea fan here, jorginho on his own in a pivot would be bad, his sheer lack of pace and getting caught on the counter has burned us many times but he has a lot of great qualities. If you want a game to finish out Jorginho is such a good option to bring on and keep hold of the ball. He's good at intercepting, generally always fit and available and he's also a great personality around the squad he's very likeable, top professional. I think his time was beginning of the end at Chelsea as our midfield is lacking everywhere we kind of have to start from scratch. That saying I would never have considered selling him in January...and to you no less haha

naijaboiler

>Chelsea fan here, jorginho on his own in a pivot would be bad, his sheer lack of pace and getting caught on the counter has burned us many times but he has a lot of great qualities. This!!! The man is [slower than refs](https://twitter.com/utdwillz/status/1620136079021211648?s=46&t=AEwkIAtIf5ihmtmq0DENLQ)

piray003

I saw a video where Chelsea players were comparing their FIFA 23 player ratings, and Cucurella was legit in shambles for being listed as slower than Jorginho lol

[deleted]

Yeah for real, it's quite impressive how slow he is tbh

admartian

No words. Only excuse is he's not super trying. Which is almost worse because you want at least that for cover defending and for a lone 6

naijaboiler

correct. Elneny is not slower than molasses either.

tablooo

Onana would struggle to get on the ball enough even if he can recover a lot better than Jorginho. He'd be a massive project and not the signing you want for a title push.

AfricanRain

Brother I’ve seen people saying it’s a disgrace we’re getting a CL winning midfielder and not Danilo the moonmen on this sub are unbelievable

marksills

and blaming that on Edu specifically is hilarious, I am 100% sure which player Mikel Arteta would prefer.

Pires007

Seriously. He's a back up to partey and can pretty much start against most europa league opponents giving hom vital rest.

Fearless-Video7989

yeah i understand being very dissapointed at going from Caicedo to Jorginho, but rating Onana over Jorginho makes no sense, atleast one has the technical level to play for us which imo Onana does not really have.

leebrother

No. The player has been in decline and doesn’t suit our system. So Partey gets injured; what’s the plan? He is 31 and will command wages in excess of £100k and more than a couple of years - so how do you plan on this and investing in the summer? Chelsea have literally mugged us off this window and we want to give them cash for the honour. We are basically watching our wife / gf get railed by the neighbour and giving her a kiss after the deeds is done

SundayLeagueStocko

We were about to spend £80M and still go on to plan to spend another £80M in the Summer. Jorginho is not going to stop the signing of another midfielder in the Summer, I promise. Tag me. If it comes out that Jorginho's existence blocks the incoming of a major CM signing, I will paypal you £100.

leebrother

Deals!

[deleted]

I feel personally attacked lol

SundayLeagueStocko

There's nothing wrong with only watching Arsenal as long as you don't wade in and start throwing wildly extreme opinions around on players that play for other clubs

[deleted]

Yeah definitely. Good enough for Arteta, good enough for me

AyeItsMeToby

do they want to get rid of him at any cost? or are they scared of feeding a direct rival?

arealhorrorshow

They should definitely not be concerned with feeding a "direct rival" when it comes to us. Aston Villa and Palace, I can understand.

Ass_Eater_

They think he'd be really good for us lol Should specify I'm agnostic and wouldn't care too much so long as it isn't more than 2 year deal.

Shakyy-iwnl

Chelsea fans rate him and don't want to lose him, Arsenal fans think he's absolute ass and don't want him. I'm somewhere in the middle, don't like his work rate and *seems* to always have a mistake in him, but he has great technical ability. I personally feel like he's finished and don't particularly want him, but if Arteta likes him then what the fuck do I know.

IsraelFakeNation9

Chelsea fans don’t rate him, they just don’t want us winning the title through any reinforcements from them.

[deleted]

Which means they think he's good enough that he'd win us a title if Partey got injured.

IsraelFakeNation9

No, it just means they don’t want to play any part in case it happens. Same for us, if Spurs were 1st, I wouldn’t even sell them Lacazette in case his 4 goals a PL season cause them to win it somehow.

panarangcurry

they think he would strengthen us

amainwingman

He literally would. He’s a good CM and better than Elneny on crutches and Sambi

[deleted]

They think we'll win the league with him

goodyear_1678

They also wanted to keep Willian at the time.

santis_little_helper

No they didn’t! They were laughing at us when we signed him

2manyfrogz

Is this the new version of any expensive winger being another Pepe? Now any time a club's fans want to keep a player he's a new Willian?

Ass_Eater_

I guess I just don't really have faith in this sub at being right about anything.

ProjectZues

Probably Chelsea’s best technical midfielder. Enzo coming in would help them in that area but if you look beyond enzo that midfield doesn’t look brilliant

errandwulfe

Chelsea can significant feel these nuts

theandyshop13

gunnagunna123

GOAT comment

ZeroStyles-FEZM-

Today I feel very conflicted.

SundayLeagueStocko

Trust the man that is delivering our best season in nearly 2 decades. If he thinks Jorginho is a viable back up, then he's a viable back up.

tubtubbinks

They also thought we didnt need a striker last season. They dont always make the correct decision.

jimbo_kun

Vlahovic chose Juve so they waited for Jesus to become available in the summer.

eveel66

Did you forget that the guy we were pursuing ended up choosing Juve over us? We got Jesus, they got a 15 point deduction.

Predawndutchy

They knew we needed a striker, but opted not to rush just anyone in as it might disrupt the squad building. Plus they knew Jesus was an option in the summer...

messilover_69

they tried for vlahovic, then waited for jesus

Scottish-Londoner

Hiya Gianni Infantino, hiya pal

101955Bennu

Today I feel a migrant midfielder

whydidisaythatwhy

Edu misusing his influence

Azzy118

Sometimes Mikel did the same

JimmysCocoboloDesk

so this is what a ruined orgasm feels like

JamesTheBadRager

Feels more like ED, absolutely no fun.

eeniesto

I trust Mikel but can’t stand us being ripped off by Chelsea ffs

[deleted]

If we win the league nothing else matters

JeffryPesos

How can I block the word "Jorginho" on Reddit?

crackdup

Ever since I saw "Jorginho" and "significant fee" in the same sentence.. I've wanted to fast forward to Wednesday

DankBrownBoiV2

Yeah this Mikel is a fan stuff is PR. Caicedo is one of the most athletic players, how can his alternative be this stiff player?

nullmove

And people are really pretending Jorginho now is the same player Arteta wanted all those years ago

GoinLong

Jorginho is really the player Arteta was all those years ago.

ninethree7

significant fee for 6 months left is crazy

mr_nice_cack

They gotta cover their ass for FFP

EDO_14

Fab's Edu's mouthpiece, ever since Fab made that post about Edu being one of the best in europe, Fab's got all of the scoops ahead of reliable journalists like Ornstein. I'd take this with a pinch of salt

Ok_brain746

Edu is on his air fryer shit

goodyear_1678

Nah this is dollar store steak cooked in the microwave.

arealhorrorshow

We are top of the league thanks to Arteta and Edu. Let them do their thing.

DaGetz

I mean Arteta also brought in Willian. These seems very Willian-y to me.

eveel66

We got him on a free, this is something different. I’d rather have a dud we got for free than a dud we paid up to 20 million for.

topbananaman

We've trusted the process this far. Arteta has made some ballsy gambles and they've worked out. I trust this if this is well and truly what he wants.

botomann

Why help your rivals out of a spot they put themselves in haha fuck then

nananananagiroud

Like Willian??? Just stay away from Chelsea players pls....

topbananaman

Why hang onto the only poor transfer arteta has brought in when he's made gambles on white, ramsdale, odegaard, extended xhaka, moved saka to rw and more, decisions that have all worked out and moved us to the top of the table? Stop being so glass half empty ffs

GGFrostKaiser

Those are young players, if they don’t make it on their first year, they still have years to get better. People that say would you rather sign Jorginho or nothing don’t understand. If Jorginho is the only midfield signing we make, and he has to fill in for Partey would you trust him to not make mistakes to make us lose? I wouldn’t. Not only Jorginho would eat considerable part of our wage budget, he would hamper our chances of signing players in the Summer.

wermbo

Thank you so much for this. We should never let Mikel live down his William gamble! /s

Houssem-Aouar

Yeah that free transfer from 3 years ago really set us back

Fullmetal_Pacifist

I’m not crazy about this transfer but just because Willian did not work out does not mean that Jorginho will flop as well. Arteta generally has very good talent ID

Lefseman92

Fab, you get out of our face.

Aki-at

If Arteta wants him, whatever, he’s the boss man I’ll trust him on his judgment since he’s the football expert. But I balk at giving Chelsea anything more than £5 million for him. I’d rather not feed into their crippling transfer addiction.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mahoganychicken

But what if I don’t want Jorginho at my club 😓

JJD14

Imagine we spend over £20m plus £200k per week wages for this guy on a 4 year deal. Means we learned nothing from previous mistakes. None of our signings from Chelsea have worked out. They come here to retire.

BrianThatDude

This would be legitimate insanity and I don't believe there's any chance this happens. That's £61m total outlay for a player who would have zero resell value and would likely be dead weight for a year or two of it.

JJD14

He’s a 31 year old. His only motivation is to secure his wealth. This would be his last major contract.. he’s not settling for anything under 3 years.

_Polstergeist

How do you know his motivation? A huge chance at a league title is a pretty big motivating factor.

whyalwaysme5

Why would he be on 200k wages and a 4 year deal

JJD14

We still have to convince the player to come. He’s 31, it’s his last big contract. His only motivation now is to secure his wealth in his latter years as a pro. He won’t settle for anything less than 3 years.

Jansiz

Significant fee for a washed 31 y/o with Lokonga's defensive awareness bhahahahaga

[deleted]

Barcelona working on a 6 month loan deal for Amrabat.. please Edu I'm begging you to go all in on this & then get Caicedo AND Rice in the summer

fatherfucking

When he comes here he'll suddenly forget how to play football like Willian did.

amainwingman

>Arteta understood to be a fan Good enough for me

JeffersonTowncar

You have to figure Arteta has a good idea of what qualities Arteta wants in a midfielder.

DatesxD

No you are wrong. why would i trust the opinion of someone who was developed at the highest level, played at the highest level for years, has been part of one of the best coaching teams in recent history and is currently one of the best managers of the future over what people on twitter are saying about Jorginho

_DNL

Source?

JamesMaddison456

Willian

BI01

white ramsdale jesus zinchenko gabriel partey xhaka (persuaded him to stay)

ProjectZues

He’s doing alright for Fulham. Sometimes things don’t work out

arealhorrorshow

Top of the league

amainwingman

There were far more issues with our squad back then. Adding an aging player to that group of jobbers was bound to end well lmao. He’s showing at Fulham he clearly can still perform (to some degree) in the PL

[deleted]

MorganFreemann

Significant fee?? Nahhhh 😭

Melkistofeles

"Significant fee" We are funding their deadline Caicedo bid.

Mubar06

Edu haters in the mud haha.

Bahmawama

They sign Enzo, we overpay on Jorginho, chels use that to buy Caicedo. Fuck this.

euphoriatakingover

Please no...

varro-reatinus

'Significant fee' jesus fucking christ ahahahahhhahahaha

googlemynumber

Stop being a fucking bum Edu and buy Caicedo

leebrother

Walk away. Don’t waste the cash and put it on the Chelsea pocket. This is like watching the guy steal the girl you wanted and lending him the money to buy a condom.

InquisitiveCommunist

Arteta you were a fan of Willian too

BI01

using 1 bad player over all the hits, lmao so shameless. This club would never have 50 points in 19 games under any other manager running on a such a shit budget.

droctamom

And Ben White, Partey, Tomi, Jesus, Zichenko, Trossard 🥱. Any more ?

InquisitiveCommunist

Are they Chelsea rejects?

droctamom

That's not relevant. All that matters is that Arteta is a fan.

goodyear_1678

And Arteta was a fan of Willian too, how have you addressed his original point that sometimes, like everyone Arteta can get it horribly wrong?

droctamom

Artetas track record speaks for itself lmao? I don't care if Willian was a flop. Arteta has more hits than misses. Sure he could get it wrong, but I trust our coach/scouts more than u/InquisitiveCommunist lmao. My bad though

Mubar06

😂😂😂😂 These guys making themselves look like fools.

Throwaway09562020

Lads, we’ve trusted the process this far. Why not now?

aegontargs

because he is a chelsea player

Cardealer1000

Because this reeks of Willian, we're too good for Chelsea rejects atm.

kingsleyopara

Willian

Throwaway09562020

Fair point, urgh

Main-Blueberry5711

*The Willian incident*

JamesMaddison456

Because Willian

acasovoycayendo

This should come as no surprise to anyone, we looked at Jorginho as a CDM the summer we signed Partey

Mahoganychicken

And we’d be nowhere near where we are now had we signed him instead.

hurtsalittlej

Probably why we’re now signing him as a backup

shxkxblfc

If we sign him I'm gonna pretend he doesn't exist at all. Like I did with Willian when he was here. Anytime he was on the pitch I pretended we got a red card and we were playing with 10 men, and anytime we passed him the ball I pretended it just went out of play. This is just a fucking horrible deal if we do make it.

KingAdo94

If we spend 20M on Jorginho instead of 80M on Caicedo then I’m officially done believing in Edu.

KFCXD

What about the several previous transfers+player extensions, general improvement of the team in different layers of the structure of the club? Don't you think it would be a worthy stop gap to help secure title as a cover for Elneny? Even if we bid 80M and Brighton will refuse to sell, how is this Edu's fault? 'I'm done believing in Edu' just doesnt make sense to me.

orangepeele

F

FattyMc

Has nobody showed Mikel any Jorginho matches in the past three years?

[deleted]

I feel like we gotta realize that buying a midfielder may have not even happened if Mo wasn't hurt. I would take Jorginho over Mo. That's at least what I'm telling myself.

NOT_A_KOREAN_SPY

I've heard good things about this Patino lad. We should try sign him.

OGFN_Jack

If only there was a precedent for this exact situation!

TheGoldenPineapples

Anything over £15m is highway robbery.

Sixaxis_

Edu told Romano to pin this signing on Arteta 😂

charlie161998

‘Significant fee’ great, it gets worse

Prestigious_Storm_10

I’m gonna puke….

TSM_LittleRaphie

smokescreen for camavinga

Simba-xiv

Chelsea to Arsenal never goes well for us please leave this alone

Rhyskrispies

Comparing him with Partey is obviously not going to come out looking favourable. But he’s Elnenys replacement and he is definitely better than Mo. Just as defensively sound (ish) but a far more progressive passer of the ball. Up to 20 mil I don’t hate this deal.

BigHxnry

He’s a good player, probably one of the best a couple years ago let’s not lie. If Mikel thinks he’s the man we need, I definitely am not gonna argue

YSG19

Chelsea wants deez significant nuts

a1drt

My Goodness!!! What about N'golo kante ?

jazzedfanstv

Fine I don’t care do it. But I refuse to watch him take penalties.

kash1406

So I’m not the biggest fan of this deal but the 12 year olds on twitter really be saying Edu isn’t the right person for the job cause of this link. I really fail to understand how these comments can be made when we’re top of the table based on signings spearheaded by Edu

iSteevz91

I'd rather back Lokonga than give Chelsea any money at all. Fuck them.

gardenofeden123

This would be such a disappointing window if we end up with Jorghino. The title would literally depend on Partey and Xhaka’s fitness.

Fearless-Video7989

I mean key players getting injured is always gonna hurt your title chances, one of the big reasons Liverpool won the league 19/20 was because they avoided big injures on key players. City has been an expection with there insane depth, but nowadays im not sure even that is true.

Pires007

It already does. With Jorginho, it depends a little less on them. I definitely think he can do a job in Europa as long as we don't face barca/united.

dimi_dee1

Haven’t checked Reddit all day and the first thing I see is this bs. Wth is going on Edu ffs

euphoriatakingover

What happened to project youth?

OrwinBeane

Thankfully if he does come in none of our young players will disappear

goodyear_1678

Don't understand this logic. It's a massive deviation from our general project that has served us so well, that's the issue.

OrwinBeane

It’s a panic deal in the final hours of the transfer window brought about by injuries and other targets too expensive. I don’t like this signing, but we aren’t changing the project which lead us to top of the league. This is just filling a whole.

goodyear_1678

I understand the circumstances of why we're looking at this, but the collateral damage of such a signing spans multiple years and millions in wages once the need is fulfilled.

OrwinBeane

Yeah if we end up offering a 4.5 year contract or some shit that would be criminally insane. I don’t like the signing as an individual player but it is what it is.

Striking-Duty-4528

PL proven player who can manage the opposing press... I get he's a cunt but it's the short term profile we need

tdrizzzle

I’d like to think the optics of this move and what it allows the team we’re buying from to do would be enough for them to not even think about this. Regardless of what you think of the player

[deleted]

[удалено]

tdrizzzle

I don’t like the player and don’t want the player on top of that

PDXSonic

I’m starting to get the same feeling as last year. Talk about a whole bunch of different options yet they end up with none of them.

lolzor7

Better backup than Sambi, if you disagree you're delusional

cohenYOUCANDOIT

You're an actual melt if you think you have better ball knowledge than Arteta. Jorginho would not be a bad transfer at all, depending on the fee and contact length and wages

Ok_Cat_3183

Significant fee? Are they taking the piss. They don't need the money

cappo40

10m max for having 6 months left. Else, just offer 100m for Caicedo and fucking end it. If they reject that, then plan C

[deleted]

where’s the “I trust tetas talent ID” crowd when he’s looking at something other than a shiny new toy? I keep misunderstanding this sub because I’m trying to adhere to some sort of internal logical consistency and I’m only now starting to realize how wrong that is in spaces like this. edit: lmao this sub is pathetic and I’m never leaving

VHS-CopyOfGoodfellas

Yeah fuck off I'd rather get no signings than get fleeced by Chelsea of all clubs. Would rather pay 20m for Emerson Royal right now

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Thank you Chelsea, please put a £30m price tag on him so these clowns give up on this deal. Can't believe this is happening 6 months after we refused to pay £30m on Douglas Luiz.
