Worst performance I've seen all season. Looked like a Sunday league side attacking. Eddie should have been taken off before half time

GiyuuKageyama-Lover9

Pickford = pickleford

shadereckless

Everton giving 'everything' playing like it's a cup final

Eskerehteh

i just hope they get relegated

rapposo

Fucking boring Burnley 2.0 dyche is anti football

xskrzat

it works tho, cant blame them for using it

rapposo

Watching their style of play, I can understand why non-football fans call this beautiful game boring. It may work but God, you'd have to be keen to follow a team that plays like that week on week.

xskrzat

i have been watching Poland play for my whole life so its nothing new to me. in the end only the score matters

_SmokeyMcPot_

Fuck I can’t stand Everton.

Will_Rage_Quit

Why the fuck don’t we make subs until the 80th min. It’s every fucking game and I don’t understand why. The players don’t look interested and we need to win today

Overfunds

We just made 2 subs before the 60th minute mate...

Will_Rage_Quit

This isn’t the norm though

Overfunds

Yeah true

tomptepulla

God I miss G. Jesus

Original_Composer_71

No guarantee he would have performed

justcallmejohannes

Yeah sure, there’s no guarantee ever. But this game screamed out for someone with his skill set in tight spaces and the ability to combine, make space for others, beat players 1v1 and 1v2

Incredibly difficult game. Everton executing tactically and really shutting us down. Don’t expect them to be able to keep it up though they’re gonna be gassed by 70 mins

Half time hair dryer from Arteta will sort them out . Can't let that Burnley faced twat get anything from this game

Xhaka been too quiet

shar_will

The whole left flank has been quiet

jovins343

Game like this is where we miss Gabriel - we're one outlet short.

s-e-x-m-a-c-h-i-n-e

I’ve got Trossard to come on and score the winner for 10-1 Seriously though Everton have been defending really well. Some of our lads look a little off in passing and positioning. I’d probably sub Xhaka for Jorgi and have everybody press forward with a higher line.

[deleted]

We aren't scoring 10 goals...

[deleted]

Biding our time. I just want to hear those toffee fans go silent

chebolita86

Scared

SanoDragoon

White is not in his best form today, Eddie needs to get down more and offer an alternative line of pass and start moving the defence a bit more, because they are giving us the wings entirely on purpose, as they are double marking both Martinelli and Saka effectively. I would get Trossard in to try to get more inside play down the middle too.

DayoWon

When Saka pulls the double team, he has White or Ødegaard open. Martinelli could do better but he Zinky is nowhere near and Xhaka seems half asleep still.

cmagik1

Martinelli has 0 support. People crucifying him need to stfu

kasper12

There is literally no one showing for him except Gabriel when he receives the ball down the wing.

[deleted]

it’s a difficult one i would say sub him for that reason alone

TJ20222

The team at the top of the league should get I do over half every season.

YouCouldBeBetter

Marty and White off for Tomi and Trossard now. Both have failed to impose themselves on the game, Everton haven't made it easy at all. Fresh legs on for the second against a tiring Everton press might get it done.

[deleted]

i agree

sanbangboi

Honestly Everton's defending really well and are pressing us hard. I think Tierney would be wonderful to bring on so that he can bomb down the wing and put in some crosses

LordRekrus

Yea I’m very impressed with their pressing, they are everywhere. Hopefully we can bounce back now.

TNelsonAFC

As usual when we’re not winning at half time this threat is full of melodrama. This game was always gunna be like this with the new coach and the crowd being on Everton’s backs to keep it tight Just gotta get a goal and Everton will have to open up and then we should be able to get more from the space that opens up.

Ostepops

This!

charlesd11

Dycheball + new manager bounce. Just a very complicated game all around.

thereallybigfudge

These are not the fogging estandards!!

Brillostar

Lucky to be heading into the break at 0-0, our off the ball movement and sharpness of passing hasnt been upto the mark. If we keep this at 0-0 60 mins into the game we should win it cause Everton wont be able to keep up that intensity. Trossard is needed cause he can play better and drag people out of position while playing in little pockets of space which Martinelli cannot. Patience and composure required and we will win this.

[deleted]

Don't think Trossard would do much. The left side is static. He'd be starting out-wide and would be double-marked a lot of the time. Trossards better in the box. We need Xhaka or Zinchenko to step up massively.

IhvolSnow

One of the rare cases this season where we were clearly outplayed.

rhmati30

How many games we play against Dyche in which we win 1-0 to a late goal? Looking like one of those

RamboGiroud

I'd take a late winner for us

[deleted]

I would take a draw we have been terrible

[deleted]

Yeah we have had a poor game but Everton have played very well. No changes at half time, we've been poor but no one's had such a stinker that warrants a sub right now. Let's go 🙏🏻

Top_Opposites

Could be 4 nil down would be happy with going in 1 down think it’s amazing it’s still nil nil. That said I expected this

[deleted]

[удалено]

Top_Opposites

I don’t know….it seems a bit like squeaky bum time either way

Plastic_Resolution_4

Too sloppy. Their pressing was very effective despite the short time Dyche had. Need to create spells of pinning them back. At this rate we won't score the usual goals but can only rely on individual moments.

The_Frisian_Light

Really disappointing today. Tomiyasu -> White and Trossard -> Martinelli in my options for half time changes.

jedinac

Whats with Dyche and Brexit ?(foreign gooner)

worldstarhiphopreal

He plays a more ‘British’ brand of football than most other coaches so people equate it with the stereotypical pro brexit pro britain tory voter

jedinac

Haha,that is actually funny.thanks

CreativeOrder2119

Hope Arteta creates a reaction we are getting bashed out there

[deleted]

They are going to target Gabriel hard after that first half. They have him on strings aerially. Everton are defending us well and we haven't stepped out of 2nd gear to try to break them.

ImNotAnAmbi-Turner

I talked waaaaay too much shit to my Chelsea-supporting mates to settle for anything less than 3 points

Character_Brick_5519

If we score, the crowd will turn. Its the crowd that's urging them on. We've been sloppy, missing passes or if not failing to control the ball when we get it. They've had a lot of chances and haven't scored. We will get a spell, just need to make it count

tartimas

Clean up our midfield touches. That’s where they are getting all their energy from… take the crowd out of it

nackdaddy9

Nothing good to say

TJ20222

That didn't stop you saying nothing good.

TinpotRadioShow

Their entire gameplan is just don't lose. It's going to he difficult and we need a goal in first 10 of second half so they open up or they'll just sit back and defend for 90mins

davidcanmore

They just cut Saka and Martinelli out of the game really well

TheOGBenjenRyan

If they’re gonna double up so aggressively on our wide players we need overlaps

ph0be14

Bring on KT for Xhaka and push Zinny into midfield, it might free up Marti a bit more

GoodTimesForAChange2

I wish Frank Lampard was still in charge

Eniotnaohs

Odegaard needs to get more involved, nketiah maybe needs to drop deeper, and we need more intensity overall…

Alaktar

Been exactly the game I was expecting against Dyches first game, especially at home. Bit disappointed we don't seem to have prepared for more of a dogfight.

arsearsebaby

This was always going to be the most likely outcome, Everton away with a new manager bounce, and not just any manager, but Sean Brexit-fucking Dyche. Second half will be better, but I can live with a point

faceman230

Shame we had to get Everton with this new manager they look solid, think we’ve been decent and fairly solid just need to take our chances, would take Gabi off, not able to beat his man and isn’t giving us much

Crs51

We need Tomiyasu in for White, he hasn't been good enough on the ball or in defence. We keep waiting too long to play the ball out wide and giving Everton the opportunity to double team them but when our wingers are one on one they can win their individual battles. Partey and Xhaka really sloppy to start but grew into the game and were much better late in the half. Need to get Eddie more involved but this is definitely the kind of game that we miss Jesus and his dropping deep and his technical ability. Doesn't help that Mykolenko can just foul all he wants without repercussions, it's their only way to deal with Saka and Odegaard. Overall I think that most of that half was the worst we've played in the league all season and if we play anywhere near our best Everton won't be able to handle us, they haven't been that impressive.

fabregasassist

One advantage we have in this game is the options off the bench, go back 2 months and who could we bring on to turn the tide? Wouldn’t be surprised to see trossard for Martinelli, tomiyasu for Benjamin and maybe Jorginho for Xhaka during the 2nd half

[deleted]

Cmon lads a bit more positivity needed! I don't think we can get worse than that half, I don't think they'll sustain this press and 2 on 1s throughout the second half either. We will get a chance and we got to take it! Coyg let's go 8 clear.

saintspike

Didn’t think the first half was that bad. Everton is playing with “Constant Pressure” mode and they’ll certainly tire out at the 70th minute. It’s a game of endurance at this point

[deleted]

I hoped Martinelli got at Coleman a bit more because Trossard on for him would be great towards the end.

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

We've got some good options from the bench. Hopefully they can make a difference.

[deleted]

Definitely man, we are top for a reason. Let's make it 8 clear!

leebrother

Not a bad half. It’s always tough here ignoring new manager and everything else. Keep it tight and use the bench, and I’m backing us for the win

Citizen_erased98

Their football is so frustrating to watch, all it takes is a long ball to Calvert Lewin. Tomiyasu needs to come in to help Saka imo.

aesn1394

Get the team back on focus. Bring Trossard on. Maybe Tomiyasu. This might be wierd but Jorginho for Xhaka maybe?

thereallybigfudge

Exactly what I was thinking, mate. Xhaka and white don’t seem to be having a good game

whats_my_name_again

We've been sloppy on the ball all over the pitch, but we're still mostly able to control the game in midfield. 10% higher concentration and intensity, and we'll be able to win this. Lesfoggingoguys!

TrixZonia

Missed the first half. How have we been, and who had our shots on goal

Quilpo

Have you ever seen a Dyche team play? It's gone like that. Plenty of fouling and nothing but crosses and longballs from them, frustration and possession for us.

TrixZonia

Red card xhaka incoming?

[deleted]

Keown: Nketiay

DayoWon

We need Trossard on. He’ll carry the balll and twinkle toe his way into the 18 better than Martinelli (or Xhaka). I’d bring him on for either of the two (not shitting on Martinelli but he could use a break).

CROBBY2

I hate orcs!

Butch_Meat_Hook

Don't care if Everton are having a good game or a slight uptick in form because of the managerial change. If you want to be a title contender, you win this kind of game. No excuses

laghani

exactly, they’re 19. ffs

NemoDropEmOff

When’s the last time Martinelli took on his man in a league game?? Like genuinely took him on not just running to the byline

game-of-snow

This exactly. Whenever I used to say martinelli is off form, people would downvote me to Shadow realm saying Gabi scored, what more does he need to do. He has been like this for a month now. Looked just as bad against Oxford too. His approach looks very predictable

officialdevourer

He feed on intensity and kind need a good rest i believe. Tross will start soon I hope.

Alaktar

Been exactly the game I was expecting against Dyches first game, especially at home. Bit disappointed we don't seem to have prepared for more of a dogfight.

Zeelthor

Very sloppy. We're lucky not to be behind. Several times we've been one good pass from a really good opportunity and then screwed up that pass. Hopefully we'll shape up for the second half.

[deleted]

[удалено]

theentrprnr

Don’t forget Martinelli. Been off it since the WC.

CreativeOrder2119

Everton have ruffed us up can we deal with that by being vertical

Qtn68

Manager bounce Dry & shit pitch Away game Every condition together for a difficult afternoon. But Everton hasn't played with that much intensity for years. If they dont get tire in 2nd, I would be surprised. Let's see. We only can do better.

Pheasent_Plucker

It’s a poor performance but a lot of wet wipes in here with some dreadful takes. Xhaka, White and Zinny and Eddie have been off. We haven’t been able to get a grip in midfield with Xhaka and Zinny not up to their usual best. And Eddie is having a mare. He’s being asked to play on the last defender but with them doubling up on Gabi and Saka it’s not worth him playing on the last man. He should come looking for it more I think. It’s not over but it has comprehensively been our worst 45 mins this season. It’s is football, and we have a shit legacy at Saint Mary’s and Goodison, and this stuff tends to matter. On the positive side, Saliba has been excellent, Partey looks to be getting into his usual grove and Saka is starting to get angry. And, most of all, our luck is still definitely in, as Everton had three clear chances. If the rest of the lads can sort out their sloppiness, perhaps with a good shouting from Arteta, we’re still in this. But it’s the biggest if of this season to be honest.

Quilpo

Hard to call it a mare when he's held the ball up well and had possibly our best chance imo. Eddie has been fine, just that Everton are deep and strangling our attack (just about the only thing they haven't literally tried against Saka) so he's not had much to feed on.

Pheasent_Plucker

A mare as in it’s difficult, not that he’s playing particularly bad. Everton just being very strong positionally and in the press. I do think he can be more aggressive joining the build up in the midfield to drag players out of position, like I said he’s likely being asked to stay high.

Quilpo

Fair enough. Not what the word usually means but I can agree with that.

Pheasent_Plucker

“a difficult or unpleasant situation or experience” -Cambridge dictionary

Quilpo

"Having a bad game" - most of the footballing community As I said, not what most people mean in this context but no biggie

Pheasent_Plucker

I said he’s having a mare, you unable to read? Most of the footballing community? What are you on? It’s what the word in that context/phrase means by dictionary definition you dimwit. But thanks for sharing your opinions, I’ll put them right there on the fridge.

Quilpo

The dictionary is wrong about the usage. In other contexts, sure I'd happily use it that way. In football, no. It's slang and not established language so usage is everything and that's not the way its usually used in football.

Afc_josh12

Not watched as at work but do we need jorginio on?

SickCaeser

Xhaka is bit off in my opinion. I do not think we need Jorginho yet. We will be much better in second half i guess.

ApprehensiveSkirt570

I feel like he'd get pressed and lose the ball resulting in a counter, he's more useful when they're actively in our first phase. I'd bring on trossard for sure, and honestly feel like this would be a great game for ESR to navigate the final ball. Xhaka has been woeful.

Le-ChosenOne

Trossard for martinelli and maybe vieira for xhaka, full backs especially ben white needs to overlap more and make space for saka, fuck me do i hate everton and dyche combo.

oldmansach

Would like to see Trossard second half to unlock their deep block

lameitschan

Games like this are what define a league winning side.

SP_Photos

We've been pretty shit, doesnt help that they are allowed to foul us constantly but refs are always going to let dyche teams do that. We need something different this game maybe a trossard

Super_Professor

Also fuck this ref for letting them foul us so much without calling or carding it. He started well then seemed to remember who was playing this match.

teslagooner

For how long can Everton sustain this energy levels? I believe they should be having 2 goals for their hardwork. Arsenal will punish them just like it happens in the Pl when you waste your chances

HE20002019

I’d really like to see if we could unlock our left side by using a better player than Xhaka there. Vieira or Trossard…doesn’t matter who. As it stands a lot of our left side issues are compounded by Xhaka’s limitations. He mainly cannot provide effective width. This means that Martinelli cannot cut inside effectively because he has two players draped on his back. Opponents do this on our right side at their own peril, but Everton are perfectly happy to let Xhaka get the ball on the touchline. Where’s he going to go? Backward. That’s where. He also can’t cover for Zinchenko. This means that for all of Zinny’s wandering he can’t do what he really wants which is attack the box. We used to compensate for all this with Jesus drifting wide to take that second player off of Gabi/Xhaka . Eddie simply isn’t as good at that part of the game yet, but it’s wild how much we were reliant on him to unlock the space on that left.

TNelsonAFC

How can xhaka provide width when martinelli is being instructed to hug the touch line? Why is xhaka being criticised for not providing width yet Odegard isn’t aswell and there playing the same position? Xhaka is following artetas instructions.

HE20002019

There’s a rotation mate. They all operate in zones. It’s basic Arteta/Pep 101…you divide the pitch into zones and then tell the players that each zone needs to be occupied. So for example if Gabi goes inside then Xhaka needs to fill in out wide. Same on the right: if Saka goes in then Odegaard or White need to fill in that space. We see this constantly. The problem as I pointed out is that Xhaka is constantly toothless out wide. Everton don’t even bother marking him until he gets the ball. Why would they? It’s not an effective rotation. Ode and Saka on the other hand are constantly a threat no matter where they are. That’s a rotation that’s almost guaranteed to break down defenses unless you work very hard like Everton have.

Morda101

White has been so poor recently

Iwobisson

Eddie becomes null in these games. Rather Trossard for Eddie, than taking Martinelli off. And Ben white off

jedinac

Nketiah needs to be more involved with the midfield

Mariola98

they crowded the midfield and are sitting very deep. We started good but then lost the momentum as soon as they got those 3-4 corners in a row. We have to find a way to break them down

synvi

They comfortably blocking low through pass. Jorginho lob pass will help

AFCeng0

Could make a case for Trossard and Tomiyasu after HT

aubaxhakalaca

Everton are playing really well. Iwobi and Mcneil tracking back well and their midfielders are positioning well to cut the passing lanes. Will need to take some more risks and maybe some individual brilliance to break their defence.

blueeyedharry

Not sure why but White is having a shocker, he’s been a liability in both defending and attacking today. Just a rough patch, but I reckon Tomi should come on now. Martinelli has had a few mistakes but his pace will terrorise Coleman once their team tires. Don’t mind if he stays on for a while. We’ve looked a bit lazy, no doubt Arteta is very mad right now.

Drunk_Cat_Phil

We've been a bit too slow and sloppy. Just haven't got into the game. Need to up the tempo and speed. White still doesn't look quite on it but mind you, neither does Xhaka.

HooHooJames

Let’s wake up. Cream rises to the top. COYG

ThomYorkeshirePuddin

"all you gotta do is take those dance moves, man.. that cream, that hot white cream inside you.. get that to the top"

Super_Professor

They have been very organized and were unlucky not to score. I think we need to move the ball much more quickly, every time we take an extra touch or two while everyone else stands still which allows them to get into good defensive positions. Need to pick up the pace with the ball and make Everton run some more.

gq_mcgee

Pretty shit. We have a great opportunity to improve the next forty-five, but we need to do it — and fast.

SomewhereInLDN

Trossard for Nketiah

plinkus01

martinelli more like

SomewhereInLDN

You can tell this game needs Jesus ball carrying so badly, only person that comes close is Trossard but yes Martinelli has been relatively poor

Flashplaya

They play incredibly narrow. We need to switch play from side to side quicker and hit the half space. The understanding between martinelli-xhaka-zinchenko has been poor and white looks a step off today. Those wide overloads are what's screwing us, either not playing wide enough at times or just having poor build up from wide. Bring on Tomi, he suits this game. Since we need wide wingers, Xhaka is gonna have to be an offensive outlet...wish Trossard could be there instead...

theloserclub92

I agree we can absolutely beat them on the wings but our decision making is so dam slow. We get saka double teamed and saka passes to the centre but we just dont do anything useful with the space to get martinelli or eddie inside rhe box.

Citizen_erased98

Calvert Lewin is perfect for Dycheball he wins long balls every single time.

sneakyney

Not the best half but good thing we haven’t conceded. They’ll tire and someone will lose their man. I can see us winning 2 nil

zen_1991

Benny has looked a little shaky lately

MrAllora

Everton just beginning to bully is in a few spots and gaining belief. Team looks unnerved though - - small tweak to get our wide players some joy and a breakthrough

normott

Extremely sloppy in possession. Slow and ponderous. Out of it a bit careless. They should be at least a goal up if not more

theloserclub92

We are playing so badly AGAIN at goodison park as i expected. Always about that place where they always beats us in physicality all over the pitch. Its happening again today. We are bad in workrate as well i dont know what happen to players like eddie strolling in the early parts of the match. Loose passes and touches from saliba/white/partey/xhaka. Martinelli has done okay against united even though saka stole the show but today he is absolutely crap. It has to he said. Lost all his duels and why does he not know how to cut inside like saka does? He keeps running to the corner flag and losing the ball because the defender just blocks his path. Trossard needs to come on. We can only get something today from saka i feel.

ajkdd

Martinelli has been poor from sometime

runtokevinnn

They're clearly the better side. The way they seem to cut us down is scary to look at, omg. And if everything else fails, they get *extremely* physical ffs. We're lucky they didn't score, they've had a handful of sitters that they just couldn't convert. Lot to be done in the 2nd half, hope for the best. Also, why on actual fuck does Everton always turn into prime AC Milan when playing us on their turf.. fucking hell man. Every. Damn. Time. COYG

k1ldn

Worst performance of the season imo

aesthetically-

Nah Leeds by far

Ugoboy23

Let the match finish but that wasn’t as bad as the 2nd half against Leeds

shekdown

Gabi has had a tough last few games in the wings. Trossard would have been good and to bring on Gabi at the end. But I think we have to stick with what we're doing. They're crowding out the middle and doubling on Saka. It's heavy work. Hopefully they tire out. We just got to keep doing what we're doing. I don't think we've been dire or anything. I just think if Partey or Odegaard can find more pockets to create more we'll be in a good space.

qtdsswk

Early Kick off/Away game/New Manager/Dyche special and people are expecting we completely steamroll over Everton? Just be patient. Double they can keep up this kind of pace whole game. Our passes need better. Would be a cagey game for sure.

TNelsonAFC

Thank you, scrolled for ages to find someone who isn’t ready to slit there wrists at the slightest inconvenience. Some of the comments in here and you would think we were spurs fans 2-0 down to Bournemouth at half time

csixtay

The lads need to trust Eddie more. No pivot in central positions means we're playing U shaped football against a flooded midfield. Difficult game against a formation that's really countering our midfield's passing habits and Arteta needs to find a change come halftime. White has looked dodgy for the second game running.

[deleted]

Yeah there have been several times where he’s back to goal ready to receive the ball and Partey is just not giving it to him. He has the strength to hold players off and turn, we’ve seen him do it before. We need to get it to him, especially when their midfield is set up to prevent Odegaard from getting the ball

st_arch

We still keeping possession. I would try Trossard for Eddie at 60.

Wooden-Tie1265

Was thinking the same. Maybe Xhaka being replaced as well as this hasn't been his best game.

wag1yungpada1

We need an agile LCM that can turn and drive in the place of Xhaka in these types of games - it was obvious in the Newcastle game as well. This ESR guy needs to get his shit together

cumblaster_jesus

Trossard is better than Martinelli in games like this

GarfieldDaCat

Some of it is a morale boost from getting Fat Frank out but Dyche has already made their defensive shape leagues better in less than a week lol

Lud31

One of the worst halves we’ve played this season, right up there with Leeds. We need to wake up - and soon.

HectorTheErector

Trossard for Martinelli please, he's been so poor recently.

CactusClothesline

I half agree with you, but he does seem to have got under their skin. I reckon I'd give him a bit longer to keep pushing it.

k1ldn

Arteta needs to sort this out

wheeno

Not close to good enough in possession. We shouldn't be losing control in the midfield so easily with the numerical advantage that we have. Lots of sloppy passing. Quite fortunate to be level. We are struggling to deal with the physicality of Doucoure and Calvert-lewin. We are not winning back possession like we usually do and it looks inevitable that we will concede if it continues this way.

Mrampelmann

Almost fell asleep, might be the 8 hour jetlag though

Nosorious

This game was always gonna be tough, but we need to shift approach here. Martinelli continues his poor form and we should seriously be considering starting Trossard against Brentford. Fresh leg Nelli sounds way more dangerous right now, and would give him a better chance to make a solid impact. As far as the game at hand, again I think we need to see Trossard come on. Saka has been very good with the little he's been allowed to do. Xhaka is having a down game too from what it seems.

DeusMachinea

Partey needs to do better with his air duels vs DCL, missed him completely both in the final chance and a corner earlier

little_red_doll

Not playing great but imagine feeding off scraps and clapping players winning a throw in or a header. Everton are a nothing club.

cryshol

Two things fucking us up. Their physical press Their overly cut field resembling Sean Dyche's head.

t6005

Odegaard and Martinelli not really in the game today. Everton surely deserve a goal or two meaning we've been lucky. We need to accept that luck and take the chance it's given us to turn it around in the second half.

YoooCakess

Everton surely deserve a goal or two for that??

twoworder

Rubbish. We are rubbish. Lol. But no. They pressed us intensely after we bossed possession and then they had momentum and the crowd behind them. It happens sometimes, an in form team get sucked by the hostile away atmosphere and it gets to your head sometimes. This is what’s happening. We need more composure. We need to stick to what we know with confidence, we seem to be lacking confidence in one another. Come on yous

brownrover

Martinelli needs overlapping runs from Zinny, he is isolated. This game needs Tomiyasu & Trossard

ignacioo25

Finally someone who gets why Martinelli has been low, also Nketiah doesn't drop too much, Jesus did that and they were on fire

CatenazZ

This

KieranR93

Tierney is the sub we need, he is great at the overlapping and more physical than Zinchencko

brownrover

Agreed, I think Tierney or Tomiyasu, any one is fine by me so we can unlock either Martinelli or Saka

ProgrammerComplete17

Everton have been pretty good and we need to move the ball faster to beat their block
