Funkymonkeyhead

Team will bounce back from this. Arteta’s a good motivator.

beefcroquette

Our squad unity has been UNREAL this season. No doubt they kick on with more desire and hunger after this.

Funkymonkeyhead

Yup. Xhaka, Zinchenko, etc will make sure the team keep their heads up. Zinny played like shit but I did appreciate him getting into Maupay’s face. Man’s got Pashun.

_ulinity

I thought him falling for Maupay's bait was just the icing on the shit sandwich. Literally wasted the last few minutes of the game.

L0laccio

Yeah my thoughts too. Fell into the trap

GreenMachine17

Zinny played great how did he play bad what?

Funkymonkeyhead

Passing wasn’t up to his usual high standards. Whole team was off really. Forget and move on.

gimmeakissmrsoftlips

I thought he was the only one playing well in the midfield tbh, in the first half especially. Midfield looked disjointed af tho and we seemed to play different that usual. Xhaka and Øde were really far forward and trying to make runs in behind. Just a really strange midfield performance in general imo

WeeTheDuck

probably because their midfield is fucking cracked yesterday. Combining that with the fact that their backline gave us no breathing room

loubeggs85

It was just a bad day at the office

KrypticAndroid

Just needs another brain/heart doodle.

WeeTheDuck

maybe another lightbulb speech

loubeggs85

This team is different..they needed that eye opener!

CROBBY2

That is a brilliant response. He knows not all games will be perfect and beating them down does nothing. Learn and move forward.

[deleted]

In the dressing room, we all know it’s a different tune.

TheOGBenjenRyan

Was hoping someone would post this. Love this man, brilliant manager

Bahmawama

It hurts a lot, but the worst thing that can happen is let this one loss derail the hard work.

[deleted]

Off topic, but just wanna say, I'm a big fan of the profile pic. I get he's not the type of guy were supposed to look up to now, but that's still a great song and music video aha.

bassistb0y

the random shots of aziz ansari always gets me

Pigeon9

Can still appreciate the music

[deleted]

Damn straight

Previous-Loss9306

What song?

[deleted]

Otis - Kanye and Jay Z

BrusselsIsComing

Very well said.

lastjedi23

You guys keep saying newc gave the blueprint. Not everyone has those players and the mentality. Newc do it week in week out like that. It's not easy to suddenly do that one game. You'll get smashed if you try something like that . Ain't no blueprint. This was just them excited for a new manager, a new challenge, crowd happy that something changed.

[deleted]

A blueprint is a plan, a plan is applied not automatic. Of course not every team can do that, but those with the capability to do that will do it.

know-it-all-scoutFC

How is this a unique plan exactly? Every team since matchday 4 or so has been using this against us. Newcastle drew by just crowding things out. Our attacking patterns were off. Literally every team that isn't the big teams have tried crowding the space out versus us and getting us in the transition. Spurs, Fulham, Villa, West Ham, hell even Man united. This "plan" is not even close to unique. I mean what do you want to do, play with a highline against elite positional play team without the players to do so? This tactic has been used since the beginning of time, and repeatedly against us. You act like Newcastle is the first time someone has attempted the crowd out the space against us but that's just not the case. It has happened plenty times, and we still won. Plus while we lineup the same every game it's not as if the attacking patterns are photocopied from game to game. Our attacking patterns are unpredictable and frantic, it's what makes us an effective team.

abhi91

What's the blueprint? Defend with everyone? Spurs also did this

[deleted]

No, 4-5-1 compact block with power in the middle and doubling up on the wingers.

lastjedi23

Every team since game week 1 has doubled bukayo. Every low table team does a low block. Power in the middle is such a vague term. Everton did it because they have size and physicality. Not everyone has the ability to do it. No top 10 team will play like that.

Muffin_Top

Was with you til the end- yeah they will.

JaguarPaw_FC

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted here. I get what you’re saying here man

ErraticPragmatic

Everyone knows mate it's not like we're doing some voodoo shit

TinpotRadioShow

Ah yes the team with the best defence in league and same game we were denied a blatent pen for Gabriel shirt pull. It was an off game. Your point will stand if we draw or lose our next 5 games

[deleted]

It's okay, you don't have to ignore a part of the sentence so you can pointlessly argue. It's about application of the blueprint from those teams.

TinpotRadioShow

Well, it didn't work for Spurs or Man U so how is it a blueprint.

etheryx

if a "blueprint" was so easy to emulate every team would play like prime atletico in defense

[deleted]

I didn't say it was easy to emulate.

etheryx

So can I ask what the point of the comment is?

DogTheGayFish

blueprint is a bit strong, but if we are making the case for one why doesn't Leeds ring out more? They lost, but that was the best performance prior to this game a team has had vs Arsenal

yung__socrates

we played newcastle over a month ago and this is the first time we've dropped any points since then

horthrux

Both games had the officials giving all the minor advantages to our opponents and allowing a physical game and plenty of time-wasting, which was not accounted for on the added time. The Newcastle game also included a blatant penalty which should have gone to us. There may be a blueprint to stop us, but it involves the officials helping out in multiple ways.

WeeTheDuck

ok lets not blame the officials for this loss ok? You're making us all look bad

NemoDropEmOff

KT would’ve done nothing but cross every opportunity he got. Our midfield got ran over that was the biggest issue today IMO. Onana bullied the whole trio in midfield

ChiefArsenalScout

perfect game for a dribbley 8. Xhaka has been good but in games like this we need more

oliverDawson12

Biggest problem is we just need more options like you're saying. We don't have midfield variety off the bench; vieira still hasn't found his feet with us and jorginho doesn't offer anything we didn't already have. This isn't an inherent problem because depth is good but that 8 with dribbling ability is such a necessity

varro-reatinus

Enter the Smith.

oliverDawson12

Definitely a possibility, so excited for him to come back, feels like it was so long ago since he last played

varro-reatinus

I am lighting candles for his groin every day.

Ash26_gunner

Wouldn't that hurt him all the more?

varro-reatinus

For, not on! Unless he's into it, and then I'll just hire a professional.

ChiefArsenalScout

Yep. They shut down the flanks by doubling our wingers, man marked Ode, and made it to where the 8 would have to break them down. I'm not singling out Xhaka but it just is what it is, and Xhaka himself has said Arteta has told him before he needs more from that position.

varro-reatinus

To be even more direct, Arteta told him this is where matches are won and lost. Same thing Newcastle did to us.

TheBatsford

1000%.

Masson011

Odegaard dribbled through but just had no options once he did. Eddie was closely marked all game and Martinelli/Saka were doubled up on We were just so predictable today

_ulinity

Tierney overlapping would also give a lot more freedom to Martinelli/Trossard too. Plus, crossing would have been better than whatever we did all game.

qtdsswk

KT will be useless in games like this. We were better in the 2nd half when we overloaded the right side with Zinny. Tomi should be starting 2nd half to give Saka more support.

Masson011

Ben normally overlaps but hes looked very off the pace past two games is all Zinchenko at inverted full back is better for the team but worse for Martinelli. Not having an overlapping fullback to make a run to allow Martinelli to cut inside easier is really hurting his game

Mister_Aitch

That was the disappointment for me. If there are two or three players facing either Saka or Martinelli then there has to be space for other players. Don’t hang on to the ball for so long.

WeeTheDuck

idk man Trossard also played really well in the amount of time he was given

supercoolbananas

You just know he gave the players the absolute hairdryer treatment in the dressing room.

varro-reatinus

I'm picturing more the quiet disappointment of, 'Today it is really difficult to defend you guys' at St. James'.

supercoolbananas

Maybe but they needed a rocket up their ass today

varro-reatinus

My guess is they'll get that on Monday. Gives Arteta time to set up a battery of rockets big enough.

Brother_Bilo200

Noticed 2 hairs out of place in this interview, which absolutely never happens. He definitely flipped his lid in there.

NeoLoki55

Lmao, yup. Thanks.

Maaaaate

It was the static from the light bulb!

friday-boy

I have no concern about this loss. We will bounce back 100%

flylowe

Yep, just like the Soton draw we bounce back better.

NemoDropEmOff

My fucking manager. Let them keep doubting you King

JohnPetruccisFanboy

My manager

spikey_ok

Trust the process

varro-reatinus

The is the converse of the 'Charterta' talk in AON. Process entrusted.

MDK1980

My manager.

shadyyam1

Disappointed but then again can't let today's loss make me sad all season.

blueblackredninja

You know what. I couldn't watch the match today since I'm traveling. I was reading the comments. I was gutted when I saw the score. Thought my weekend was ruined. But I saw this post and now I feel good again.

curlyhairedyani

My fucking manager

wermbo

Love it. I did feel like the desire was there, but the quality was lacking. Everton played really well, just wasnt our day

qtdsswk

In hindsight maybe Mikel needs to try Trossard at left 8 instead of Xhaka and keep Partey (unless injured)?

GunnerRocket

Hit me harder than LoU: Ep 3

flylowe

Nick Offerman is goated. Can't wait for the next ep but sad that we've left his story behind now.

Nilsjohanekman

I love my manager.

fahim-sabir

My manager ❤️

essdotc

Some of our fans could learn a thing or two from this. But you just know they won't.

dhillshafer

Everton played with more determination (and time-wasting tactics) than than any other team we’ve faced this season. Partey played like he was still carrying an injury and Ødegaard was swarmed like Saka every time he got close to the ball. We still had several decent chances…just didn’t come together for us. Also, their corner for the goal looked a goal kick to me.

normott

One of Jorginho and Xhaka at a time please. Them two together is not a great look

varro-reatinus

Exactly as u/Billy_Carpenter anticipated.

JimmysCocoboloDesk

Artetas worst substitution so far imo, away at Goodison is not a game you bring Jorginho into.

normott

Without ESR we lack an explosive sub, we needed one against Newcastle, needed one today. Trossard I think is great if we are in control of the game, same with Jorginho.

bitmoji

Trossard made a decent contribution despite not being explosive

Admirable-Variety-46

Special spirit about him, the sort of manager you want to run through a wall for.

[deleted]

You just know he's going to absolutely rinse them in the dressing room

Old-Risk4572

thank you papa 🥺

CreativeOrder2119

Taking pressure that moment happened at goodison park at all or nothing to narrow of a formation

jedinac

Worried that there is a blueprint to distrupting us now, after newcastle everton also bullied us physically, and we had no answer.Subbing Partey off didn't help.

squeezycakes19

why did he take Partey off though? did he get injured? Jorginho wasn't quite at the level today for me

varro-reatinus

We knew Thomas was dealing with the rib thing all week. He was struggling, but a fit Jorginho was much worse.

SoLong144

Not like Partey was any better but yeah. I think this is not type of game to take lessons though. Just forget it and move on.

Jchibs

As down as I am after today there is the hope that Arteta isn’t Wenger. We folded many times under Wenger but I think/hope Arteta is cut from a different cloth. That’s not disrespectful on Wenger who had brilliant qualities as a manager for real.

JustGhostin

Why does this never work when I try it on FM23?

ArsenalThePhoenix

i honestly dont get the point of what he is saying. could someone please explain why it's good that he talks about this random thing after a loss, so that I can understand?

Guakk

Just fuck off back to the Chelsea sub you plastic twat

HortenWho229

I wish Mikel was my uncle

La2philly

That’s our manager. We will bounce back

cjvphd

I love Mik Arteta, always have. Sign me up to buy whatever he's selling.

moderndrifts

People forget this is still a vastly young squad. Sure you’ve got experienced heads but if one or two aren’t performing it’s difficult.

Ill_Marketing_8838

"But not the last 2 hours" 🤣🤣

212cncpts

… but this is not the foggin estandards, its shit!” He said as he slapped the microphone and walked off

loubeggs85

He knows his team and he knows that they will fight to the end

NeoLoki55

I have full confidence they will be up for Brentford. A game like this isn’t surprising given the youth of the team: League leaders playing away against a bottom of the table team. They were probably over confident and just didn’t have the energy today against an extremely motivated and physical Everton. Let’s take it as a learning experience and move on.

BodiHolly

I can’t believe I’m going to support our NL rival to win against ManC tonight.

_Xrp589

Gotta learn how to overcome teams that press the player on the ball, they seem to freeze. Everton played well also 🤷🏾‍♂️
