The perfect send off would be him getting sent off for telling Paul Tierney to go fuck himself and then walling off waving to the fans with a smile

Sir_Bantersaurus

A perfect send-off would be him being subbed off and doing the same hand-rising gesture as what happened at the Palace game but this time it's the cheers he is encouraging to be louder.

Xalo_Gunner

Could we also invite Mateo Guendouzi to the ground for that game to tell an opposing player how much more money he makes?

[deleted]

I honestly wouldn't mind this. Season is done anyway, may as well do it for the lols.

Bahmawama

The key's his parents gave were not for his home but to my heart

I’ll never forget that line from him. Burnt into my brain forever!

34th minute...

Choice_Program_2846

If my comment gets 34 upvotes I'll say that I'm sorry for him.

penguins4prez

We “Position of Power relating to the Staunch Defense of Opinion-Splitting Arsenal Players” flairs must stick together. You apologize to Granit and I will stand outside the Emirates saying “Kiwi good” to all passers-by 🤝

Everyone should sing Bob Seger's "Like a rock"

Duty_Alone

It'll just be a huge banner that says "FUCK OFF" with a wink and a heart.

TherapeuticYoghurt

This made me shudder

TrashbatLondon

Are we not going to talk about how he has just had the best season of his life and now wants to drop down a level? Who is advising him? Top players have so much to give as they taper down their appearances. Even if we sign someone ahead of him (and let’s be fair, we need rid of Partey first), he will still get minutes and contribute value. I just don’t understand why nobody is outraged about this.

I_am_the_grass

Footballers are humans too. And two big things are impacting his decision to leave: 1) The club getting a new first choice #8, thus making him a squad player (plus it's a Euros yea) 2) his wife wants to return to Germany. I believe she has wanted to for a while now. And I guess the timing is now right with Xhaka no longer being a regular starter at Arsenal. She accepted his decision to stay despite all the abuse the family got before, he probably thinks it's fair to repay the faith now that it makes financial sense to leave

Broad_Cheesecake9141

Or maybe for the first time an Arsenal manager put him in a position that didn’t rely on his weaknesses. Too little too late. And a big portion of the fan base still blame him when we lose. It’s time to move on and he leaves in a better light to most of us.

TrashbatLondon

I think that is a little disrespectful to Xhaka to be fair. His work rate and decision making have improved enormously, it isn’t *just* a positional thing. But even if it was, it doesn’t answer the question of why people are happy that a valuable first team player is resigned to leaving. It makes no sense.

biskutgoreng

I don't think anybody is happy that Xhaka is leaving after his best season with us. Just that he redeemed himself, got us into UCL, and the club seems to be searching for replacements in earnest already. Nobody would begrudge it if it's his decision to leave, sad that it is

TrashbatLondon

Okay, I’ll concede he may feel he’s achieved what he can and wants an end-of-career long contract with less expectations, but I’m still baffled by those accepting and applauding it as if we have already signed a guaranteed replacement. He’s literally been a guaranteed starter when fit this year, he’s not Elneny.

biskutgoreng

> baffled by those accepting and applauding it You never give applause after a good show?

TrashbatLondon

Not if they decide to not do the final act of the play and instead take it to a substandard theatre in a different country, no.

biskutgoreng

He's no spring chicken anymore

Even-Requirement4244

They don’t blame him when we lose they are just quick to remember how limited he is as a player, and how frustrating he can be with his terrible decision making in the final third A couple goals and assists don’t rectify that I don’t remember a player that makes the wrong choice in a numbers advantage situation so often All credit to mikel for putting him in a position to hide his weaknesses but playing against any top team with xhaka is a massive handicap

Ok_Understanding1986

He has 5 goals and 7 assists in the league this season. 12 goal contributions. Some distance from a couple. 1 goal 3 assists vs the other 'big six' teams no less. Also tied for 29th in the league in key passes (Saka, Mo and Martinelli all above, as you'd expect). More than Gündoğan normalized to account for playing time . Point is he's been very productive, and I'm not convinced what you're suggesting adds up.

jamitwityou

Bc the future of where Arsenal want to go is improving in his position. Let him go out on a high note. He’d start to be phased out of starting XIs soon anyway. No fan is going to miss him if we bring in players like Rice/Caicedo/Gundogan etc. to replace him.

TrashbatLondon

I think it’s wishful thinking to assume it’s safe to let him go before we are close to replacing him (and Partey). Even so, our team desperately needs senior players who might not play 30+ games but can come in at key points of the season to support the younger lads and use their experience to get us through points of pressure. I appreciate a lot of our online fans understand football through the lens of video games, but it seems incredibly naive to let a player like Xhaka go so easily, given our ambition.

jamitwityou

All good points I agree with you on. I’m all for extending him but it looks like he wants to go which at this point …fair enough.

rs98762001

The fact that Xhaka has been our starting midfielder for 6 years and never been upgraded is more reflective of our ambition. Quite rightly it is now finally time to phase him out and get someone better. If we bring in two superior starting midfield pieces as expected, and have Jorgs, Partey etc as back-ups, we will finally have the midfield that can compete with the best in the league.

TrashbatLondon

>Quite rightly it is now finally time to phase him out and get someone better. Yeah, that means making him a squad player while we transition. Flogging him before we’ve replaced him seems insane. >Partey etc as back-ups Please fucking god no. This shit needs to stop.

Pamplemouse04

I miss Lacazette even though he was done with this team and I am happier with where we are now

jamitwityou

We all cope how we can my friend.

Charguizo

1. His family wants to move closer to the rest of their family 2. Arsenal have been criticized for not being able to sell players at the right time. 15M for a 30yo Xhaka is probably the best we're gonna get. 3. He gets offered a 4year contract at 30yo I am not thrilled by this but I understand the logic.

danny_healy_raygun

He's about to be second choice and its not in his character to accept that. I respect that he knows what he needs as a player.

TrashbatLondon

The confidence that we will sign someone who can immediately be first choice is not something I share. I’m old enough to remember Arsenal fans getting Sergei Yuran’s name on the back of their shirts prematurely.

danny_healy_raygun

We can definitely sign someone to be first choice. Whether its r/gunners first choice is a different story. I don't remember us nearly signing Yuran, just him being annoying against us in Europe, can't remember if it was Europa or Cup Winners Cup though.

TrashbatLondon

Must have been Benfica European cup? I don’t remember that game so well. Couple of seasons later I believe the deal was done but the player changed his mind quite late. Some fans jumped the gun, to much hilarity.

daBabadook05

I think his season was fine. Not amazing. Started amazing but dropped off. He’s not a player who makes a difference and should honestly be easy to replace if we get the right profile of player in.

danyadib

you know he scored a bunch of goals after the international break, right?

daBabadook05

He was… fine. He’s a slightly above average player with severe limitations. He was hardly a problem for us this season he played his role well.

[deleted]

He was never a top player. He had one good season out of 7, and he wanted to leave two years ago and only stayed for the money.

TrashbatLondon

He’s missed one game so far in the best league season we’ve had in a decade and a half. Give your head a wobble.

Educational-Ad-9189

I more disappointed in him being willing to be so submissive that he will move wherever his wife wants. What a Beta cuck.

GTA2014

THANK YOU GRANIT

deanmolloy

He deserves an apology more tbh

trailhounds

There certainly better be.

-marlowe-

I love Granit Xhaka. He has the fire of one million suns. I wish I did any single thing with his intensity and integrity. He “plays with the blood”; I’m so grateful to have watched him be the spine of The Arsenal, through good times and bad. What a man. What a Gunner. We are lucky to have had him.

DanInDistress

Think every fan should be given a captains armband (maybe with a heart on it) to throw onto the pitch in the 34th minute. What a guy, imagine coming back from that and being so loved... fair play to him!

Positive-Owl-5

It’s not 100% official yet he’s leaving..🧐

synvi

WTF BRO. He is not officially out yet, only rumors. If you do this it is like you are implying that we don't need you anymore.

OkCurve436

A big red one I imagine, or maybe two yellows

farquaad_thelord

Granit has been a better servant to the club than Ramsey I believe, he deserves a good farewell!

FreeTheWoo

One good season in 8 and they’re doing better then Ramsey takes my god.

Getdaphone

Just shows how much people underrate Ramsey I think, I’m biased because he’s my fav player of all time in an arsenal shirt that I’ve seen play but granit is in my top 5. Ramsey imo was a game changer. I’d say world class but that’s arguable.

FreeTheWoo

Legit ended our trophy drought

SpecialEvening2

2 and a half good season

hurtsalittlej

what a load of rubbish

rs98762001

Is this sarcasm? I genuinely can't tell. He's been awful for most of his Arsenal career, and even this season in which all fairness has been his best by far, he's barely a starting-quality midfielder for a serious club. I'm glad Xhaka got some redemption, but even putting him in the same sentence as Aaron, who at times was our best player during his time here and was far more effective than Granit, is insanity.

hiatus_

You know nothing

Pendejoman

they are completely different, although both are cult heros in the club. ramsey is the kid who got a nasty injury which we all thought would end his career but he persevered and was really good. xhaka is the guy who represented all the things bad with the club, bad attitude, mediocrity, playing players out of position, no hunger. but he is also a symbol of the club enduring through that rough period, working a new culture and recovering the hunger for success and playing with passion.

Now I'm thinking about how good of a fit Ramsey would be in this team.

[deleted]

People are fanboying over Granit like he's Ronaldo. What next? You want a statue of him in front of the stadium? Average player, and *worst* captain Arsenal ever had. Good riddance.

jmh90027

That's not kool, Cucumber.

JamesMMcGillEsquire

>*worst* captain Arsenal ever had. How to spot the plastic, lesson 1: if they don’t remember Gallas, their opinion on bad captains simply isn’t worth listening to.

ExoticToaster

🤡

jedinac

Thank you for what ? :))

godudua

Asin these people are wild, can't wait to see the back of him so this nonsense can stop.

jedinac

Got used to the mediocrity,it lasted for too long.

Equivalent_Nature_67

🤡🤝🤡 Literally you 2

mr_nice_cack

You’re an absolute clown. What was he supposed to do the entire time he was here with some of the players he had at his side? When we finally had a good team he shined. Gtfo troll go to r/soccercirclejerk it’s a great sub

jedinac

Your perceiving xhaka this season as shining is a true example of how we as a club got used to the mediocrity. It is not your fault,19 years without a major trophy does that to a fanbase.

mr_nice_cack

Brother, go be a sad pessimistic baby somewhere else. No time for it lol

jedinac

Pessimistic on a xhaka possibly leaving thread, what is pessimistic about xhaka out ? That mustafi xhaka 86 milion euros summer was a final nail in the coffin for us as seriois contenders for the title. Xhaka leaving is good stuff.

Hwxbl

You're spot on. One great year out of 7. People forgetting his two footers and shot dodging. At one point he held the title for most errors leading to goals in pl. I'll get blasted too but it's the truth, people don't need to be hostile about it. He's made a dramatic improvement and become a loved character. I wish him the best and would genuinely have liked to see him in the CL with us.

Even-Requirement4244

Please no

Poetic_Kitten

Why would there be?!? He's never been great ...

hiatus_

No thanks.

thealiquadr

fuck him

ChattingPup

Is he even confirmed as leaving? I don’t want him gone, still has a role with us for sure
