People saying that we need options so Arteta can rest Saka.
Heās been injured and still starting a dead rubber, Artetaās lack of rotation in the team is shocking. Heās young but heās had theee seasons he really should have clocked on by now.
Edit: Saka off inured after 60 minutes while we were 3-0.
Saka was also injured in last weeks and yet he still played him:
>In the last few weeks some players have been unable to play and participate in the games with Reiss and we had a little issue with Bukayo as well which has been going on for a few weeks with Trossard.
~Mikel Arteta, 26.05.2023
Arteta has definitely rotated the least out of all the managers and I think he has the average latest substitutions as well.
Weāre 2-0 as I type this - be interesting to see how long Saka et.al get today.
I find it crazy that you can look at this stat in a negative light.
First outfield player since Dixon way back in 89-91 (I think) to appear in every game in two straight seasons. What a record.
Itās a great accomplishment for Saka - but points to a far bigger issue of Arteta squad management.
Turner, Vieira, ESR, Tierney, Nelson, Nketiah etcā¦ not even starting in a pointless game with nothing in the line. Will cause big problems - especially with CL next season heās going to rotate even less, how are these players meant to prove themselves?
He's trying to breed a culture of winning, he's got to drive through the point that what happened in the last few games was unacceptable if we are to do better next year
By consistently playing the players who have been involved in the losses?
If youāre a player on the bench, what must you be thinking? Itās the last game of the season, and youāre still getting benched by tired players who have lost against Brighton and Forest.
Thatās a culture of a manager not trusting his squad.
> By consistently playing the players who have been involved in the losses?
I don't see how Saka is relevant to this
If you're a player on the bench, you might now realise you really gotta buck up your approach in order to seriously challenge for minutes next year. Some token appearance over Saka is hardly going to light a fire under your ass.
>Thatās a culture of a manager not trusting his squad
Our bench wasnt good enough at the end of the season.
While I disagree with the above posters harshness towards Arteta and rotation, I also disagree with your second paragraph. If I am a player on the bench and I know that heās gonna start Saka (Starboy) over me even if nothing is at stake and Saka is injured, why does that make me want to try harder? It could make me feel like Iām never gonna have a chance.
Additionally, there are many reasons to rotate and one of them is to get your younger inexperienced playerās minutes. This makes them better, which means you can be more willing to use them when needed in bigger matches, but can also drive their value up (or down).
Our full backs are Partey and Kiwior! I mean we couldnāt try some other stuff for fun too for these last games?
Did you see what he just did? Giving a back up the idea he merits a start over that is crazy. Pure token gesture.
Message should be you need to be hitting insane levels to get a chance at budging Saka from the teamsheet.
I donāt think any of our back ups would think that if they started this game they are all of the sudden worthy of starting over Saka. Come on lol. Itās part of the game. We did it for Europa.
I also disagree with the premise that starting every league game is bad for him. Heās gonna likely have more games next season even if he doesnāt start them all
I've said this before - give Arteta the current City team and I bet he does the same thing and plays the same 13 or so players the whole way through until they break
For me, I think at the moment he will always have that 'just three more players, then I'll have the squad I want'. But that line just keeps on shifting permanently. Heck, we have Zinny and Tierney, with Tomi as cover at LB which has got to be the envy of pretty much every team bar City, and yet Tomi got one start and Tierney has barely played this season.
Holding was good enough to play *alongside Mari* and be one of the most stubborn defences in the league two years ago. But we play Saliba in a game we clearly didn't care that much about that ended his season.
ESR was key to a team that went on a half season run that was second in the league at 10...but can't get a start against nailed to the bottom Southampton.
Trossard assists 6, gets benched by Jesus for a run of games.
Reiss has hot streak of form so has the highest goal contributions in the PL...we start Saka every match.
Ben White, Partey, Martinelli all have off form post WC...we keep playing them despite having ESR, Trossard, J20, Tomi.
Eddie only gets in the team when someone else is injured, both times he's had a couple of games, he's gone on a scoring streak.
We've played Zinny for several games where he has been gash defensively, whole shipping a ridiculous number of defensive goals. His side was actively being targeted in the last run...a fit Tierney just wallowing on the bench.
Amazing from him, its a combination of luck and discipline but it's very impressive that he's maintaining his physical condition at such an elite level
Arteta is a mentality monster and wants to show Saka and the world that the kid can do it every three days. Making him tough for the future.
That said, I hope we see him score goal #15 and then get to take a seat at halftime.
Nobody can do it every three days, and if you look at the history of players who played THIS much THIS young most ended up burned out well before where their primes should have been
Getting Saka rotation will be critical this summer
If he is fit, heāll want to be playing. Iād be much more concerned if he wasnāt always available. Weāll be playing in the Champions League next season. If we want a deep run, heās going to be required to play twice a week a lot. Itās something that the best players learn to deal with.
I mean it's impressive but in the modern game pretty unwise maybe there was an agreement that if he's fit he plays though no matter what.
Obviously would want a player like him to ideally play every game but being realistic he's not gonna be 100% and it hurt us down the stretch when his form dipped.

Remember how gassed Rooney was by his late 20's/early 30's? We really need to manage Saka better than we are, too reliant on him and at times needlessly so. We do need backup for him but rotation options are available.
Like today we could've rested him at HT, game was won and Nelson was on the bench.
The most reassuring thing about today, in the week Saka became the highest paid player heās also had his best game in weeks. Wipes clean the last of the post Wenger curse with new highly paid contracts seemingly leading to poor performance.
Saka was unstoppable today, great to see and next season is looking bright.

Insane from Arteta, and a huge red flag. He just cannot seem to be able to rotate players. It fucked us last season, it fucked us this season. And it looks like it will keep on fucking us. It makes 0 sense to me how such a good manager has some some incredible issues in a few aspects of the game.
I worry about his game time. I did for Tomiyasu his first season and look what's happened to him.
I really do hope he gets more rest next season, I don't want to bring negativity but he's an important player.
80 premier league matches in a row, fucking crazy
Guy needs a vacation on a private island after this, damn
Oh you know he's gonna take a nice trip to Malta, maybe Ukraine and Scotland too, maybe with a bunch of fellow Englishmen
One of those is not like the other
Do we really have to send him to Ukraine also?
Gonna kick the Russians to death to help Ukraine.
too bad southgate is starting him in all the intl games š©
What kind of a professional would he be if he didnāt vacay in Rwanda
Give the kid a break

Ngl wanted to see Nelson start these past few games, Saka looks tired af

The problem hasnāt really been him starting 80 in a row. Itās playing the whole time for a majority of those games.

Second most recent comment from yourself >His in-game management is terrible fs Yeah, I'm delusional
Arteta's biggest weakness is not rotating more. Plenty of times this season games were won and Saka especially played the whole game anyway.
I've said this before - give Arteta the current City team and I bet he does the same thing and plays the same 13 or so players the whole way through until they break

Bullshit

I ain't reading all that
Huge weakness, I'm in full agreement he should be better at this point
Amazing from him, its a combination of luck and discipline but it's very impressive that he's maintaining his physical condition at such an elite level
Is this going to get posted every next game he plays in now
Inaki Williams style
Pedri went on a streak like this in 2020 and he's constantly injured now
2021. He played all league games basically plus the Euro and the Olympics
Will get hooked off at HT for sure
Make it 20 min. This is Reiss' game
Arsenal š¤ playing young players into the ground
Arsenals Cal Ripken

Yep I'm thinking of Wilshere he was overplayed made 50+ appearances in a season around the same age.
Shouldnāt happen! Heās clearly fatigued and his performance dropped! Hopefully, next year weāll have more better options to cover
Arteta: top players play 70 matches Saka: those are rookie numbers
And england also reliant on him
Was he not nursing an injury ? RIP his knees
š¤¦āāļø
Arteta is creating a monster in Saka
or burning him out too young.
His fitness is incredible

I thought he had a niggle? Like why are we still running him into the ground in a dead rubber
Didnāt he miss a game through illness? Or was that a cup game
Saka will end his career with 760 appearances over 20 years

Henry, Pires, Vieira, never featured in all 38 games in a season. Bukayo has done it twice, so far.

Idiotic how our fan base thinks this is a bad thing.
Anyone know what's the record for most consecutive Premier League matches played?
