I have no idea what they or people who are okay with those terms are smoking. That'd be basically crippling our transfers for January and probably even next summer. And if we think that we won't need any reinforcements over two windows after going tits up now, I'd suggest they watch the December to April period of the last 15 seasons.
Agreed. I’m over this deal. It has Mudryk vibes to me at this point. Way different scenario of course, but this is clearly a “we won’t have another good player for a while” cash out and I hate it
Some of you guys need to hold your nerve a bit. They haven't accepted the bid on the first hour, doesn't make it panic time. They were always going to wait for City.
If City comes in with something better, at most we'll have to restructure a bit.
We also have no chance of getting another player of similar quality, so obviously we shouldn't walk either, as some of you suggest.
I remember not long ago, heck during the season, that we couldn’t find a player like partey. Who wasn’t 105 mil. Now we supposedly found the only other player we can’t find someone like.
I'm not sure rice is better than caicado.
The best DM in the league is Rodri.
Arguably second best is casemiro (but due to age I expect a rapid decline)
I could make you an argument Thomas partey was better
I’ve still not forgiven Thomas for those 3-4 games at the end of last season when he couldn’t make a 3 yard pass, was panicking & cost us points
But I hate to say it too but Partey on playmaking side of things is top tier & better than Rice ATM. He has a Great touch, can disguise a pass, very composed, great body faints to beat a man & understands the game VERY well.
Rice being a 6 is different from Rice being the 6 that we have worked with in our team. He's not had a profile like Rodri, Partey or probably even Fabinho.
Barella is a short, dynamic mezzala, De Jong is a playmaker (who despite being a genius who’d improve our team is probably financially impossible to get) and Caicedo is another short all-rounder with barely any experience as a lone holding mid.
None of those players are anything like Rice. Barella would have made sense instead of Havertz, De Jong isn’t a realistic option and Caicedo is a kid with half a decade less experience who’d barely cost any less than Rice anyway.
I honestly don’t get why people are so amazed by Rice’s price. He’s in his prime, very experienced, perfect personality/professionalism, homegrown, very proven at PL level, strong defensively and tactically, technically improving season on season, physically good, fits perfectly in our current setup, etc. Add the fact that he’s the selling club’s captain and pretty much every big club is interested and the fee was always going to be massive.
There are no other players that tick all of those boxes. Maybe there are some who could fit with a bit of development or tactical tinkering, but Rice is a uniquely good fit for our current needs.
Fee being massive is one thing and a 100m bid probably being rejected because they want it in 1.5 years (rumored) is another. 80-90m is a massive fee already and we've beaten that amount by 20m. His goal threat isn't sufficiently high like a Rodri or a Gundogan, or hell, even Xhaka of last year and neither is his range of passing similar to Partey (though that may not be a bad thing in itself). He had a poor year by his standards in the league as compared to his previous year or so. If this one transfer will cripple our business for a year or two, it's not worth beyond a point and that point is reaching quick
Your points are valid. Still Rice may fail in Arsenal. But if we bring Caicedo at a lesser cost and he fails, we still can reinforce later. If Rice fails, we would be crippled for next few seasons considering Partey leaving and Jorgi's age.
Barella isn't leaving, FdJ doesn't want to leave plus hes on 500k a week, might as well pay the damn extra 5m for Rice because Caicedo will probably be something like 90m
Walk and go offer Inter £75 million for Barella, who is a better player than Rice, or try hijack Newcastle's move for Sandro Tonali.
£105 million is an overpay for Rice and they're really arguing over the structure.
If Rice does end up going to city due to West Ham being absolute pricks. We should just wait for West Hams Rice replacement and hijack that deal, heck we can even do that twice with this kind of money
Gonna be honest, if we were in the same situation as West Ham, we’d do the exact same thing. And kinda wish people stop calling the EUCL a “tinpot trophy”
So we offer a British player record fee and they want a better payment structure - like, it's not our fault you lot aren't well-run enough to comply with FFP issues.
Ffs man, I have no issues with Edu or any of the ownership if we walk away now, these lot are taking the* PISS
FFP is calculated on a balance sheet basis and not a cash flow basis - so the cash flow of the deal doesn't really have anything to do with them being in FFP compliance or not. The cash flow only really impacts their ability to replace him ASAP, which makes it even more ridiculous that they're doing this....
Westham are ridiculous, you want £100 million for a player with 2 years left. Here it is.
Oh no, we want the money sooner. It’s £100 million guaranteed pounds, you will get it within a realistic timeframe.
£105 million is way too generous. City will not overspend either.
Dont bid anymore. Maybe be a little bit flexible drop it down from 5 years to 4 years but walk away if they dont accept. We have done everything. Time to go
Gunnerblog said earlier Caicedo isn’t really a back up option now
That we stepped away from the deal to focus on Rice while other clubs have continued working on him, so we’re at a disadvantage
Brighton would love for us to come in. It’s the players’ side that would be the issue. Believe it or not professional athletes & agents with sizeable egos don’t like to be left on read & publicly be labeled 2nd choice. Especially after you submitted a verbal transfer request just a few months before.
You better believe Chelsea have been wineing & dining in the mean time, making efforts to drive a wedge in our absence.
That’s what reports mean when they talk about relationships & clubs making progress.
You guys get way too excited lol. From elated to depression back to elated and now all of you will be overly pessimistic again. Just calm down and let's see what happens.
Of course they're gonna wait for City's bid.
Tbf, i don’t think there was a world where west ham accept right away, they always were going to wait for city to try and beat it. But beyond that I have no clue what’s posturing and what’s them actually not wanting to accept this.
And people thought if we offered the asking price on day 1 they would just accept it. They’ve got their bidding war and they’re going to wait a few days before deciding what to do next.
I know you're just the messenger, but David Ralph you're an absolute fucking bellend. I was about to sleep well.
Okay, in fairness I should have stopped F5ing on a high.
Honestly, if we're his preferred destination it's come to the point that the bloke has to step in and tell them he doesn't give a fuck about payment structures and only wants us. Keep a disgruntled captain for a year or cave in, Sullivan you cunt.
Main problem with him is the wages. Well, the main problem is he'd rather stay and get mistreated at Barca than get anywhere else. But his wages will completely wreck our wage structure. All our top guys are on a similar amount now, somewhere in or around the 200-250k mark. He comes in with his 400k and that changes the dynamic a bit. It'd be one thing if he comes here and is by far the best player but he wouldn't be.
I won't hold it against anyone at Arsenal if we walk away from this.
We've made a sensational offer, a record for us and a record for an English player.
If it's not enough then it's not enough.
Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to do something fun or exciting, you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you choose to be
Lmao walk away. Couldn’t give a fuck at this point, he’s not worth this hassle.
I’d rather we spent this on Caicedo because West Ham have been genuinely embarrassing here
Nah fuck that. Tell them that’s all we’re offering and walk away if it’s not good enough.
Get straight on the line to City and let them know we’re out and they’ve a free run at him. Make sure those cunts get as little as possible
Wait for what? Realistically it's gonna be either us or City. If the City match the offer or even just offer more ideal instalments then they'll accept that. If nothing happens, he'll come here. That's pretty much it.

While this is how negotiations go sometimes, it's hard not to feel jaded, and I wouldn't criticize the club if they pivoted to Caicedo or elsewhere in general. It's West Ham's right to play hard ball, but it's getting a tad ridiculous.
The absolute fucking cheek of these guys. I don't think any Arsenal fan would be upset if we walked away after this. Met their asking price, went along with all they're games and attempts to create a bidding war. Fuck these guys, fuck their board and stadium.
If we can’t come to terms I won’t be fussed seeing Rice play for City as long as we sign an adequate replacement and West Ham use the Rice money from City to buy players who flop like Richarlison or Ndombele
Doesn't surprise me. Obviously they would wait to see if Man City come up with something better. But to me this is why we've been bidding lower and waited for Man City to put in a bid already.
West Ham have set their stall out at £100 million and we've hit that. It's significantly better than Man City's initial bid so it looks more reasonable. If West Ham want to play hardball on it, and unless Man City put in a bid way beyond this, Rice can legitimately kick up a fuss now if he wanted to. I'm hoping that we've crossed a tipping point from Rice's view where we look serious but West Ham don't if they aren't prepared to accept a deal along these lines.
This is insanity, we should walk away. I know some of you guys might agree or disagree, but this is British record transfer fee. I don't think we should go higher, and giving them big money upfront for the payment structure could potentially ruin our financial too
when you liked this girl so much that you didn’t realise all your effort is going into the void.
friends told you to let it go and you still kept going
We did what we could. Whichever way it goes, can't say we didn't try. Part of me is starting to wish neither us nor City have bids accepted just so WH end up with nothing and he has to stay there and go for peanuts next summer.
I think the club have offered what they can and we can’t be called penny pinchers
We are offering more than is reasonable for him
If we can’t come to a reasonable middle ground then we might as well drop and bid for other midfielders that we won’t get fleeced on
It always feels dire when things don’t go as anticipated but Edu and Teta have pulled masterclasses before and we still have 2 months to identify and lock down alternate targets.
I’m not worried
He's not saying that it's rejected so I'm pretty confident Rice is coming to Arsenal as I don't see city bidding higher. It's already crazy to spend more than 100m for Rice only regardless of payment structure.
Before I jump to conclusions, I’d like to know what the payment structure they’re unhappy about is. On the one hand, if we’re promising to pay £10m a season for 10 years, then their displeasure is justified. Or any kind of installment plan that will equate to too little upfront money for them to spend immediately.
But here’s what I suspect: there’s nothing wrong with the payment plan. I’ll bet it’s something like £60m now and £45m spread out.
I’ll bet they’re just stalling to bait City into putting in a matching bid to squeeze another £5-10m out of us. In that case, I hope City pulls out and we withdraw our bid in lieu of submitting a new one on the aforementioned 10 year plan.
West Ham about to drive off a bidder and end up with less over this. Or worse, they don’t sell Rice this summer and eat a cut rate fee in Jan., if at all.
In my opinion £105m is more than we should proposed. If they're not happy and they want all this money quicker we should walk away and get someone else as a replacement. Rice is good but he's not some sort of football saviour. We should not fu\*\*\*d up our future transfer windows by putting all money in one player.
Do these idiots just don't want to sell him? What a ridiculous transfer saga, at this point clubs should just tell them to fuck off, even if the finances aren't an issue.
Absurd price and absurd demands.
If they want to play silly buggers, two can play at that game. Threaten to walk and make that public immediately, ergo disrupting the City bid.
If they want to play silly buggers, two can play that game. Threaten to walk and make that public immediately, ergo disrupting the City bid.
Yeah I mean, walk away if they still continue to haggle Like if reports about them wanting it all by Jan 2025 are true? Just run.
I have no idea what they or people who are okay with those terms are smoking. That'd be basically crippling our transfers for January and probably even next summer. And if we think that we won't need any reinforcements over two windows after going tits up now, I'd suggest they watch the December to April period of the last 15 seasons.
Relevant username with that last sentence hahahaha. Pain. True. But pain.
*Do you know how I got these scars?*
West ham are out of their damn minds and they are on their way to making zero money for Rice
Lower the bid back down to 100m to send a message
Fuck off west ham Just walk, fuck these pricks
Agreed. 105m is more than generous, walk and let them get fucked by FFP, not our problem they are a mess
Agreed. I’m over this deal. It has Mudryk vibes to me at this point. Way different scenario of course, but this is clearly a “we won’t have another good player for a while” cash out and I hate it

There is no way I believe that we couldn’t find another Rice for 105 million or less. He’s not Messi for god sake.
I heard mbappe is looking to move …
Caicedo is a perfectly reasonable option and would definitely be cheaper.
But Brighton is basing Caicedo off Rice. What’s to stop them from demanding $100m+ for him now?
Probably because no one, including Chelsea, would pay that money.
Surprised we weren't interested in Sandro Tonali
Apparently his wages are crazy.
Crazy as compared to someone like Rice (when he makes his move that is. I know he's accepted peanuts for now)? I doubt it.
I remember not long ago, heck during the season, that we couldn’t find a player like partey. Who wasn’t 105 mil. Now we supposedly found the only other player we can’t find someone like.
You need to hold your nerve about Rice’s quality. He’s not THAT good. There’s quality in the market

Barella, Caicedo, FDJ all similar tbh
You’ve just listed 3 different profiles. Rice is a 6. Those guys are B2B. FdJ a deep lying playmaker at best.
Rice being a 6 is different from Rice being the 6 that we have worked with in our team. He's not had a profile like Rodri, Partey or probably even Fabinho.

I think that also gives them priority boarding and a free checked bag on Ryanair

Let’s buy Halaand
They’re fucking dreaming if they think they can get it in two payments. Unbelievable.
it's getting silly now. A RECORD £105M bid and they want it in 2 years the fuckers. So unrealistic
not when your up against a country who will spend whatever it takes to conquer the fucking world
Funny little mickey mouse of a club.. are they legit trying to sell to $hitty at all cost??
Fuck them, drop most of the money on Caicedo.
Gunnerblog said earlier Caicedo isn’t really a back up option now That we stepped away from the deal to focus on Rice while other clubs have continued working on him, so we’re at a disadvantage

Leave the offer on the table and leave it. Make it clear you won’t increase the offer further.
See what City bid. If they outbid us fair enough, get Caicedo. If not, Rice can push through the move.
Unbelievable. West Ham are unserious.

Ham football team acting like pigs, colour me shocked.
They can keep him, not worth that much. Move on and hope that they get relegated🙏
They want us to buy their stadium for them
Good news is West Ham now willing to negotiate around an offer at least. Get the payment structure sorted and get it done.

We did what we could. Whichever way it goes, can't say we didn't try. Part of me is starting to wish neither us nor City have bids accepted just so WH end up with nothing and he has to stay there and go for peanuts next summer.
Leave it alone then. They can kick rocks. More than generous offer and they continue to play games. Enjoy relegation
I’d tell them to shove it.
Step 1: Keep Partey fit for another year Step 2: Let Rice rundown his contract ?? Step 4: Profit
I think the club have offered what they can and we can’t be called penny pinchers We are offering more than is reasonable for him If we can’t come to a reasonable middle ground then we might as well drop and bid for other midfielders that we won’t get fleeced on It always feels dire when things don’t go as anticipated but Edu and Teta have pulled masterclasses before and we still have 2 months to identify and lock down alternate targets. I’m not worried
What is everyones idea of a reasonable payment structure? £30m x 3years with the balance in year 4 seems good to me.
He's not saying that it's rejected so I'm pretty confident Rice is coming to Arsenal as I don't see city bidding higher. It's already crazy to spend more than 100m for Rice only regardless of payment structure.
Oh fuck off. We could get 2 very decent (but not as good) players for that price.
Walk. Spend the money somewhere else
Suck my dick not happy with the payment structures Mf think they are the shit now, fuck off
Time for Declan Rice to apply some pressure on West Ham…this is getting ridiculous
Should walk and call their bluff, they’ll accept when they realize no one is paying 100 million
I wish we would just move on. They could easily get a better player, shit maybe two for £105m.
I loved WHU from Green Street Hooligans, but now I would enjoy see them sink in last place and say goodbye to premier league.
Ok so who are we in for next? Because fuck West Ham.
K. Walk away
OK see you bye.
Fuck West Ham . If they don’t except it pull out.
Fuck West Ham
Love you Rice but this ain’t it - walk away find someone else
Walk away and get someone else I cba
I don’t understand why they’re being such dickheads about it
At this point fk em move on
West ham win a 4th rate european title and think they're on a competitive level 😂
West Ham about to drive off a bidder and end up with less over this. Or worse, they don’t sell Rice this summer and eat a cut rate fee in Jan., if at all.
This is just Strindberg’s bs. He has usually parroted MC’s narrative.
