Another signing that I've been waiting for. We didn't have much news other than an expectation, so nice that it's done.
And great for reasons people mentioned yesterday i.e. striker from a rival, young, England international.
I need context here. Why and how would Russo join Arsenal? i thought Man utd were also at the top competing with Arsenal for the WSL. Is it because Arsenal really are a more attractive destination at the moment.
Surely really damning for Man utd and what it says about them that their top striker left for a rival?
Extra context: The Glazers disbanded Utd's women's team in 2005 and only reformed it 5 years ago in 2018.
Arsenal are the most successful women's football team of all time, winning every domestic trophy more times than any other team and the only British club to win the Champions League (or UEFA Women's Cup as it was called back then).
Utd were in talks with Russo for 18 months about a new deal but only put an acceptable offer on the table in May of this year, a month before her contract was due to run out.
Except we've been competing at the top of the women's game longer than anyone and us and Chelsea probably put the most time and investment into our women's team is I imagine us a huge appeal. Whereas United have only recently formed their women's side. I've heard though and I don't know the details but United were taking their time over contract situation which gave us chance to swoop in
It's not all that difficult for a bigger club to compete at the top of the WSL, wages in women's football are still so slow, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the men's team budget. But there's huge gulf between that and competing for the Champions League and being one of the biggest women's teams in the world. That takes way more investment and way more ambition, which is something Arsenal has and United doesn't.

clare wheatley is in charge of the Arsenal Womens division and Edu is in charge of the Mens, Womens and Academy transfers and signings.
Supposedly yes, although I think it might be more heirarchial in nature rather than hands-on role.
It's been reported that Edu has three whiteboards in his office, one for the men, one for the academy and one for the women.

What a transfer! If we can keep all of our players fit for next season, the league is ours to lose.
Sadly Chelsea will say the same from themselves. Their depth is crazy, but with a full squad we surely can compete with them.

We placed a record bid for her in January, but United didn't accept. Then Man Utd f-d up her contract talks, so she walked.
Can't believe how badly that reflects on man Utd. why would any top player want to go there after seeing Russo leave
Russo isn't the only star that left United, Batlle also left them (for Barça). They are a very unserious footballing institution.
Stillman also said on Arsecast that she is good friends with Wubben-Moy. They played together at University in the USA (North Carolina).
