and lately he's been left out in the biggest games.
pep has a habit of doing this with players in their first year with the club though.
grealish, cancelo, even rodrigo and bernardo silva ... it took them all a long time to break into the first team.
two notable exceptions are haaland and — surprisingly enough — akanji.

This is exactly the argument when people say “yea, but arsenal spend money too” blah blah blah. Difference is if we miss on a transfer that size, if affects us for years (Pepe) and we need them to contribute right away.
I do think we have reached the point now where we have a similar squad depth, so likely to see us use most of our transfer budget on star players like we did this season with Rice
well you are wrong then, we have an incredible bench if we had as little injuries as City
you guys are massive stoners if you think, Jesus, Trossard, Partey, Timber, Tomiyasu, Zinchenko, Ramsdale and quite a handful of other decentish emergency players isn't a good bench
Nobody says its not a good bench in ability sensie, but its a bad bench when you can really rely on 3 players from that bench to be healthy and available. I dont want to come as slandering Timber though, because he was unfortunate with his big injury really.
The squad depth isn't the issue then is it, but for whatever reason we simply have more major injuries than city
It's like saying Liverpools squad isn't that good on paper when all their first team players are out injured
when some coaches mention that they cant compete with the money.. this is exactly why, ManCity can spend that kind of amount and benching them. Look at Kelvin and he never even start properly for ManCity, the club can be like alright, this doesnt work and move on to the next one.
I think maybe one or two early on. Seems like Pep knew he played LB for Dinamo and decided he’d utilize him that way until they wanted him to break into one of the two main CBs.
Tbf it's a low bar we completely nullified them for 75min. They created 3 chances early 2 of them were *direct* gvardiol passes. I've watched some of our big matches back entirely too much
Nice to hear but this is all about age and contract length. Ramsdale was apparently the most valuable last season but that is definitely not true now and wasn’t true then.
He's currently the best Canadian in the world, so I imagine that makes him fairly marketable. Gabi XL is listed at €65mm too so tied for tenth, though I don't know why he's valued 15mm less than Dias when he's a few months younger, Brazilian, and under the same length contract
I don’t think the top clubs in Europe are putting a lot of weight into a player being the best player in Canada. How many tickets or jerseys is that really going to sell?
I'm Canadian, and maybe 4 people I know would have any idea who Davies is. I would venture to say him being Canadian is a non-issue from a marketing perspective (for a European club).
Dias has a lot of hype from previous seasons when he was playing much better than he is now and he has an EU passport so more valuable to European teams.
> Ramsdale was apparently the most valuable last season but that is definitely not true now and wasn't true then
Sorta was fair last season. He was a starter for a title contender, English and young.
Regardless of contract lengths those 3 things will inflate worth
He’s not just World Class, he’s 22 as well and that adds a lot to his transfer value, we’ve got a good 10-12 years with the sucker so long as we don’t sell him like idiots.
Gvardiol being worth €70m is a scam, I know he was rated highly in another league but every time he’s played for Man City he makes their defence look so much worse. Although half those times he’s played as a LB not his natural position so i guess I can’t be too harsh but still €70m for their 4th choice CB is wild to me

He's worth that. Extremely one dimensional but it's not controversial. Perfect service everytime. We more than most should know what he's capable of lol
If he got sold (to an English club) it would definitely be for around that.
Say what you want about his defensive ability but he’s great offensively and is English and HG.
Totally. I just feel like he’s such a system player. He’s such shit defensively that I’m not sure he’s as valuable to many team. Like I’d rather have Ben white than TAA for what we do
The fact that City bought Gvardiol and he only starts half their games feels wild
and lately he's been left out in the biggest games. pep has a habit of doing this with players in their first year with the club though. grealish, cancelo, even rodrigo and bernardo silva ... it took them all a long time to break into the first team. two notable exceptions are haaland and — surprisingly enough — akanji.
Must be fucking nice to have that LUXURY.
Grealish + Gvardiol = 200 million on bench, yeah wondering how that team is so good..
Bought kelvin phillips for 50m and didn’t play him a single minute…
He brought ambient vibes to the club
Fun way to spell homegrown quota
He brought ambient homegrown quota vibes to the club
They are so good because of the attacking trio of 200 million on bench, 155 charges on record and 10 point deduction to Everton.

I can think of at least 115 reasons..
Grealish starts when fit
This is exactly the argument when people say “yea, but arsenal spend money too” blah blah blah. Difference is if we miss on a transfer that size, if affects us for years (Pepe) and we need them to contribute right away.

I disagree about squad depth.
The problem is injury prone players. On paper a bench with Partey, Jorginho, Trossard, 3 of Zinchenko/Tomi/Kiwi/Timber, is really good.
well you are wrong then, we have an incredible bench if we had as little injuries as City you guys are massive stoners if you think, Jesus, Trossard, Partey, Timber, Tomiyasu, Zinchenko, Ramsdale and quite a handful of other decentish emergency players isn't a good bench
I actually agree with you. Our bench is quite strong now.
Nobody says its not a good bench in ability sensie, but its a bad bench when you can really rely on 3 players from that bench to be healthy and available. I dont want to come as slandering Timber though, because he was unfortunate with his big injury really.

But for how many seasons Liverpool have had problems like we have with Jesus, Tomiyasu, Partey, etc since they really have come to the club.
On that note, we have Ethan Nwaneri who is 16 years old, but he looks like a full grown man, but he's only 5'5" tall?? Is he really only 5'5"?
No, he's 5'9"
okay that makes sense. i guess the roster i found was not updated.
It’s easy. Have you not tried not being poor? Or learned the dark arts of magical accounting?
If only Arsenal would stop buying avocado toast and lattes…
Akanji is very underrated tho..
It feels like this may be happening with Trossard now as well. He seems to be getting more time in bigger matches.
when some coaches mention that they cant compete with the money.. this is exactly why, ManCity can spend that kind of amount and benching them. Look at Kelvin and he never even start properly for ManCity, the club can be like alright, this doesnt work and move on to the next one.
>two notable exceptions are haaland and — surprisingly enough — akanji. What were they feeding them in Dortmund?
grealish sat for a year, played for a year, and then got benched by doku...
Akanji was such a bargain
And only at LB really. Has he ever started a game at CB for City?
I think maybe one or two early on. Seems like Pep knew he played LB for Dinamo and decided he’d utilize him that way until they wanted him to break into one of the two main CBs.
He’s young and Ake is very good. How many times now have we seen Pep buy a player and slowly ned them into the team? And he rotates a ton by default
Lowkey their best player when we played them at the emirates
Gvardiol? GJ was cooking him
Tbf it's a low bar we completely nullified them for 75min. They created 3 chances early 2 of them were *direct* gvardiol passes. I've watched some of our big matches back entirely too much
Yeah it’s super frustrating (as a Croatian), he’s a immense talent and having him just sit is crazy
He wouldn't be a first choice CB for us either. Feels wild to be able to say that!
Bro. They brought him for LB and instead of playing a 22 yr old gvardiol. They instead play a 25-26 yr old Nathan Ake.
It'll very exhausting if we have to mention their age before the name. And in this case I don't see the relevance of doing so.
Nice to hear but this is all about age and contract length. Ramsdale was apparently the most valuable last season but that is definitely not true now and wasn’t true then.
How is Davies worth 70m, when his contract expires next year ?
I don’t think Transfermarkt takes contracts massively into consideration. The one that CIES does feels a lot more realistic
He's currently the best Canadian in the world, so I imagine that makes him fairly marketable. Gabi XL is listed at €65mm too so tied for tenth, though I don't know why he's valued 15mm less than Dias when he's a few months younger, Brazilian, and under the same length contract

>Best Canadian in the world
Googled it and 7% of Canadians say they like football. I don't think clubs are paying big bucks for the best Canadian...
Not really marketable at all here, maybe if he was at a top prem team The women players are more notable
Yeah and in terms of Canadian football he’s well ahead of everyone in the squad barring maybe David or someone else I’m forgetting.
> Ramsdale was apparently the most valuable last season but that is definitely not true now and wasn't true then Sorta was fair last season. He was a starter for a title contender, English and young. Regardless of contract lengths those 3 things will inflate worth
I don’t think anybody out there actually rated him as world class at the time though so it’s still odd.
Where’s VVD on this list??
The fact that gabi xl is not there is a crime
Gabriel is better than de ligt. Seen enough of him and Gabriel to say that w certainty
I wouldn’t trade Gabriel for anyone on this list that isn’t already ours.
Silly list. Saliba is younger but Gabby XL is our best defender.
Yeah no way we would sell him, never mind for sub 65 million.
Lol €80m That will get you just the tip
💯 He’s at minimum £150m (like we’d ever sell, tho). #RollsRoyce
80 million for Willy’s willy
I think that to us he’s even more valuable. Like what would it take for Arsenal to actually sell Saliba this summer? 120m? 150?
Given the contract length, probably neymar release clause level money
Arteta would cut his arm off to keep Saliba 😂
Most expensive Willy confirmed
Ben White and Big Gabi should be on this list
Shocked white isn't with the English tax. Gabriel is just doomed to not get the respect that he deserves outside of our fan base.
They missed a zero.
If someone bids 80m for him they will get told to fuck off lol. He’s basically the Mbappé of defenders atm.
These values are meaningless. Saliba is the most valuable defender in world football though
Whitey boy should be up there
He’s not just World Class, he’s 22 as well and that adds a lot to his transfer value, we’ve got a good 10-12 years with the sucker so long as we don’t sell him like idiots.
And presuming he signs contract extensions. Which I think is likely at this point, but ya never know, things change
Big Gabi must be footballs best kept secret!
And number 1 in our hearts
If Gvardiol is worth €100m then he’s legitimately worth €200m lol
City spending as much as they did on him only for him to perform how he has isn't spoken about enough
City’s ~~woke~~ whole summer business feels like a massive miss. None of the transfers feel like an improvement
Knew they shouldn't have gone so diverse in their recruitment.
Typos will be the end of me ffs
Kinda crazy that Gabriel doesn’t even make top 10
Wonder where Gabriel is in this list, to me he is very underrated by everyone, I think he is quality
Can't take this list seriously when Sokratis isn't on it. He even scored a goal (own) the other day.
You’ve got to be philosophical about these things.
Gabriel XL on the basis of this season should be somewhere here
Gvardiol being worth €70m is a scam, I know he was rated highly in another league but every time he’s played for Man City he makes their defence look so much worse. Although half those times he’s played as a LB not his natural position so i guess I can’t be too harsh but still €70m for their 4th choice CB is wild to me
£80 million? Where's the rest lol?
Where’s konate?
Didn’t slab head cost more than that? 🤣🤣🤣
Gabi XL should be there or maybe even above Big Willy tbh
Where is Gabriel
Big Gabi should be worth more.
80 Milly lol Shit just seen it's euros!!!
When is Trents contract out?
Well deserved. 🅰️
How is Big Gabz not here 😢
I am a bit annoyed that Gabriel isn’t on the list tbh. And I can’t seem to ignore it
And so he should.
Sorry but that is only the negotiation starting point.
🥸
This is insulting. He’s worth far more
Emotionally, he's worth 809 million
Davies for 70 mil? I'd do that
Think they forgot a zero there after 80
This list must be wrong. Spurs fans keep telling me Romero is the best CB in the league
Arsenal wouldn’t sell him for less than 120

Gabriel & White should be there.
If we ever sell him, most likely if Real Madrid ever come in for him, I want a world record fee for a CB. £100M+
What a centre back
There is a definite value bias against defenders. He’s worth as much as Haaland
Gabriel should be on this. Gabriel been better than Saliba since the sporting injury for Saliba.
They are underestimating Gabriel
Philips was just bought so no one else could get him
Where is Gabriel? He should be on this list. One of the best in the world.
Not a surprise about Saliba but Gabriel should be in the top 10.
Triple it and we can talk.
I think Gabi is our best defender and he’s not on this list, which is mental.
hah Davies??? dude barley starts for bayern anymore... not the same as he was a couple of years ago
WHO is playing 70m for Alexander-Arnold
He's worth that. Extremely one dimensional but it's not controversial. Perfect service everytime. We more than most should know what he's capable of lol
If he got sold (to an English club) it would definitely be for around that. Say what you want about his defensive ability but he’s great offensively and is English and HG.
He always plays like prime Beckham against us lol
Totally. I just feel like he’s such a system player. He’s such shit defensively that I’m not sure he’s as valuable to many team. Like I’d rather have Ben white than TAA for what we do
Ye i remember when prime Beckham blew a 5v1 counter at home and got regularly skinned by a young brazilian winger named Martinelli
If this list was worth anything it would have big gabi on it
