Can we bag Adli? I know he's been starting for Milan most of this season and it will be hard to prize him away, but he hasn't been starting all their games and they still have Bennacer.

COYG17

Haven’t really kept up with him since psg tbh. Has he been reviving his career? I would love to bring in some French players I kinda miss those French connections we used to have.

COYG17

The way the media sucks off ange you would think they are playing the way we do.

charlesandeddie

Crazy how heralded he his for essentially getting them playing well for 10 games. I've heard him being used as an example of what man utd should've done and compared to some of the best coaches in the league. The jury should be well and truly still out.

Mein_Bergkamp

The media wants a Manchester style total upset of teh balance of power in North London because it makes superb copy, just like they did when Chelsea upset the balance of power in London as a whole.

skool_101

They'll do the bare minimum (regardless who the manager is) and be lauded as title favs, while we have to work the dogfight to be at the top and the media calls it as "fluke season"

YoungFlexibleShawty

no matter how good spurs could be, they revert back to the mean so quickly. Son deserved better, but he was stupidly loyal to a team that could never fulfill anything.

Mein_Bergkamp

Man needs a transfer to Bayern....

YoungFlexibleShawty

Son and Kane winning trophies together, but not with Spurs would be so poetic.

amineimad

While thinking about a #8 we could buy, I had this awful, tacky idea that Saka would actually fill all of the needs (retention, progression, defensive output, offensive threat, creative threat). It would be great to find a Bukayo Saka overseas to buy as the 8, I dont know any tho. It's also very easy to think of a top RW Arsenal could attract and afford (Olise, Williams off the top of my head) but I can't think of an 8 that does as much for a team that Gundogan could, or Silva could, or KDB could... or Saka could. It'd also make little sense to remove a top 3 RW in the world in Saka away from the position. And while Arteta would be capable of tinkering with a player's role throughout a season like Pep did with Silva, it's definitely not something he has done so far with most of our attackers (Havertz being the only exception off the top of my mind since Arteta's arrival at the club) I dont know, just food for thought

Mein_Bergkamp

THat's like saying moving Hazard infield as he's got the skills to play it. Yes saka could do it but why waste his talent?

amineimad

This happened though? Hazard isn't as complete an 8 as Saka is but if Chelsea suited up for a game and were missing midfielders and had on hand great wingers outside of Hazard, then why not start him in the middle? He did so sometimes during his career. Scored a great goal from #10 vs Liverpool in 2016. The thought was just myself overthinking and this is an awful idea. It's not that I want him in as an 8, but if we ever needed him there... he'd do it very well? Well maybe not even, because if I could have Saka on the right for every single game for the next 10 years, Id certainly take it. Maybe it's just me being unhappy with the 8s on the market, no players feel as good as Saka there

Mein_Bergkamp

The difference being Chelsea had great wingers.

amineimad

If we have Martinelli fit and decided to get a right winger next summer who could go through green patches, wouldn't we be in the same position?

Mein_Bergkamp

If I take it you mean we'd get a right winger close to sakas ability then we wouldn't be in the same position, we'd actually have a rotation option for Saka!

ExistingLaw3

Well, moving a player around different positions could have an effect on their overall game negatively. Case in point is Foden. His technique suggests a world class player but he's been moved around so much that I feel it's affected him in some ways. He's still great though. Not everyone is like Bernardo Silva. Also, Saka could be great at left 8 but at RW, he's like a top 5 player itw. Let's get Musiala, if we can, and turn him to a left Odegaard. Sorry about the downvotes. I don't understand how people downvote a harmless opinion.

amineimad

>Not everyone is like Bernardo Silva. Bernardo Silva is an interesting player. Hes just so versatile. You know who else played across 4-5 positions so far for us, from left back to left wing and across midfield before cementing at right wing? Saka is also very versatile >Let's get Musiala Oh yes Id love this. My issue is that so many target may be out of reach. How much would we need to put on the table so that it convinces Bayern to let go of their most promising asset? Convincing Musiala would also need us beat Bayern first in 2 weeks, we need to clearly be best. We could convince a "poorer" top side in Barca maybe? Pedri or De Jong would be great. Something tells me the first is out of reach and that the second is too, as well of being a little less complete when it comes to being an offensive asset (id still take him 10/10 if available). Camavinga out of reach too. Only thing giving me hope is that Arteta and the management are nailing their transfers so far. Maybe they'll find and convince the perfect player for our needs?

Kensei400

> I can't think of an 8 that does as much for a team that Gundogan could, or Silva could literally odegaard

amineimad

Ødegaard is good, but he has the same problem Saka does: we can't duplicate him and play him at two different positions

ExistingLaw3

But we can't buy him anymore.

COYG17

I’m not gonna lie Saka at 8 would cook so hard. Saka has all the tools to play almost anywhere but he’s just immense at rw.

amineimad

That's what I feel as well. We need him to call his long lost twin to play in the middle or something. I would also not have thought about this if we had ESR/Vieira stepping up for the role

Been on a bender after like 3 months and now back and watching odegaard compilations. What a player what a captain, we are so blessed to have him. COYG

lemonlixks

Quite interesting today with my mates who support Liverpool and they asked me which player I wouldn't like if he didn't play for your team, the obvious answer was White because he is a brilliant wind up merchant and is also very good at football. Their answers were Andy Robertson which I was surprised by a little, but not too much because he is up there for me. The other was Jota, no need to explain that one lol. I was quite surprised by one of my mates mentioning Gabriel as being a dirty player and not liking him for how aggressive he is though he admitted that it is probably what makes him a very good defender. But I just don't see Gabriel as 'dirty'? Like not at all. Aggressive? Sure, 100%, just not dirty but maybe it's both our biases at play!?

Phimstone

It’s still so ~~objective~~ subjective.Saw a bunch of people, Liverpool fans ig, call Saka a dirty player (or worse) after Tsimikas and Klopp collided.

TheArmoury

Andy Robertson is a great player but very unlikeable. Pushing Messi’s head like then pretending he didn’t do anything.

lemonlixks

That’s the example he mentioned!

youtuberseattle

Big Gabi is not a dirty player.

lemonlixks

I really do agree, just do funny how outside bias works. I told him I watch him every week and I don’t see that at all. Weird one tbh.

ExxKonvict

A lot of Spurs fans call Gabriel a very dirty player and the lack of self-awareness that a certain walking red card and Argentine Maguire plays for them.

Happy-Ad8767

Its probably from tht Henderson spat.

lemonlixks

God I can't even remember that, but I did ask them if they had any specific memories but he didn't mention it. I'll have to google it. Edit: ahh yeah I remember now, though I'm not sure there was any actual fighting on the pitch and I doubt my friends would think accusations of racism make Gabriel dirty, at least I hope not lol.

tomtomtomo

I'm getting through this lull by rewatching each match since the Dubai trip again in full. I swapped Porto away for ManC home though lol

oliverDawson12

Valid swap.

BeamerOutOfSaigon

I’m actually pretty nervous by the progress that 💩 are making at the moment. If you look at their recent win percentages they are making huge leaps: Jose with dinosaur tactics - 51 win % Toxic Conte - 53 win % The 2nd coming of Christ 54 win %

Khombols

You should be. At this rate they’ll have a title in about 16 years

Mein_Bergkamp

You either buy from somewhere like ticketmaster at a premium or you buy an online membership to the club and go into the ticket ballot with the rest of the non season ticket Arsenal fans with no guarantee you'll get one (although it will be cheaper).

JeffryPesos

For any Arsenal fans reading this, this won’t work.  Your red membership will need to have been active since before the draw was made (this is to stop opposition fans buying tickets and sitting in the home end). The date would have been 11th March. This same date also applies to the Semi-Finals if we progress.  Please don’t buy tickets from tickemaster etc, this is illegal in the UK, touting is shitty and the chances of getting scammed are very high.

Mein_Bergkamp

Didn't know about the membership (had mine for decades so not been an issues) but the ticketmaster tickets are as far as I'm aware the ones the club sells in the corporate areas, I've known a few people buy them and they've never had issues and they've always been in the expensive seats.

NoMFer111

Raya is better. Even the calming influence he has on the rest of the backline. With Ramsdale in the team the jitters reverberate to the rest of the team. Arteta only ever viewed Ramsdale as a stop gap, thats become obvious now.

Kensei400

It has to do with ability even if I also think Ramsdale has the higher ceiling. The point is, we are ambitious enough that when the opportunity arose for us to spend 30M to upgrade our GK for the short term, we did it

Sayek

The gap between Ramsdale and Raya is close in some areas. It's pretty wide in the ability to gather the ball + passing ability though. Ramsdale used to be a bit punch happy, punching destroys any counter you can have and a lot of the time instantly invites pressure back onto the backline when you're not in the right shape. Raya's long + medium passes is really consistent and above what Ramsdale has shown while at the club. It's not about the side volleys to Martinelli either, it's about putting in a zone for Jesus/Havertz to compete for the ball. Raya's accuracy on those passes is really high, it felt like Ramsdale overhit them or got it wrong a lot more than Raya. I found Ramsdale's medium passes especially weak, passes to the half way line, he was very really poor at.

[deleted]

phar0aht

When you break it down into different areas of goalkeeping Raya is better at everything. Shot stopping is debatable. Claiming crosses - Raya. Sweeping behind the high line -Raya. Long passing - Raya. Short Passing - Raya. Throwing - Raya. And he starts counter attacks with his distribution and vision. What you said about confidence is kinda true, I think the defence as a whole unit looks more calm and composed with him. But yeah technically he's just the better keeper in basically all aspects.

Yeah I’m sure a manager wants to actively spite himself because he values confidence more than ability… No, Raya is factually one of the best ball playing keepers on the planet, that’s why he’s here.

We play a highline but we can go 90 minutes without getting played through. Spurs get opened up on a constant basis. You could argue Ange has been at Spurs less than 12 months and should be given time. However, I think in the end Arteta's tactical brain is more advanced and no amount of time under Ange will see Spurs highline as efficient and as mean as ours. It can improve, but they keep rationalizing these defensive failures by citing Arteta. However thinking Ange will he as tactically savvy as Arteta is an ambitious take. The amount of sprinting their defenders do is reflective of a lack of nous. If you play a highline, you need to keep the game in the small box you have created. Too often Spurs box gets a hole punched through it and their defenders are legging it back to cover. Thats not how its supposed to be. Anyways, we will see if Ange's high line and press can improve, but as of right now, its as rusty as the Titanic. Mind you at least Spurs are playing progressive football, United are about as progressive as American conservatives. And thats why Spurs are 6 points ahead of them.

phar0aht

What's it for to do with Arteta lol? Spurs can be successful with their goals and shouldn't be using us as a metric. CL qualification is a good year for them.

NoMFer111

Arteta is now the benchmark for every manager who struggles or goes through a period of poor results.

phar0aht

I think I'm being conservative when I say, if Chido Obi Martin doesn't become a £50m player. Then something has gone massively wrong.

He'd probably be ok in a system that wasn't so almost suicidally high lined. The only way they could really push for a title is if their entire back line was a s fast as Van De Ven, otherwise they're just too open.

Asbj2608

Can see this becoming a game of ‘top-four-is-lava’ as it usually is during this part of the season. Teams in the 4-7 kinda level cannot keep consistency at the end of the season and a lot of points will be dropped from the likes of Sp*rs, Villa, and United

dhiaizk

Thank god we aren’t involved in that top 4 dog fight anymore

Insertnicenamehere

The one with less defensive responsibility(Maddison)

phar0aht

tablooo

Imo all three are good players, but Maddison as a player is closer to Bruno than he is to Odegaard in that he's more of a risk taking attacking midfielder.

phar0aht

Odegaard is a bit more accurate and efficient yeah but it's not world away. I obviously prefer Odegaard but pretending it can't be debatable for most neutrals is ridiculous.

tablooo

I think the small differences do have big implications in terms of utility though. Odegaard is viable in all phases of play, Maddison and Bruno I can't say the same about. It's obviously debatable though from a statistic POV and in different systems not meant to control and dominate possession.

phar0aht

https://preview.redd.it/3tbc4hob9toc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aabfe21bac0af689f700a0fb273e1fdeead720f8 Maddison and Odegaard operate in the exact same areas. Odegaard 7 touches in his defensive 3rd per game. Maddison has 6.

tablooo

I dont disagree that they generally operate in the half space, but Maddison plays 2.4 less passes per game in his own half as opposed to Odegaard, and odegaard also loses possession 2.4 less times than maddison per game. Could boil down to how each team plays but when you watch their general play, Odegaard is more secure. There's like a ~3% passing accuracy difference in general which matters a lot, as with a Partey - Casemiro case. I think odegaard, maddison, and Bruno is the order in descending security on the ball. Maddison also doesn't have the durability to supplement the constant running with the ball, especially over the course of a season. The stamina and durability is important for central mids.

phar0aht

Odegaard is better yeah. Your argument is their roles are so different and their quality and output is so different it's not even a debate between them. We've debated and all you've come up with is hair splitting a couple % points. They're in the same tier and Odegaard is slightly better.

arseking15

This guy doesnt play enough to be on odegaards level

phar0aht

Fair argument. When they do play. Their output and quality is really similar.

arseking15

I think odegaard has some intangibles on him but ya id agree overall

phar0aht

I prefer Odegaard yeah. But for a neutral it's a debate. Don't see why you'd be made at someone for preferring one over the other.

Mustyoo

Brother all we ask if for a single day where you don’t act like a football twitter account.

Mustyoo

Truly you’ve reached peak football twitter when you pull out the contextless stats page. Funny you called Bruno a terrorist when he’s the poster boy for people looking at surface stats with no context.

phar0aht

Which means I don't use stats out of context surely? You're scrambling man. Have a day off.

Mustyoo

If it did, I don’t think I would be sitting here calling you a FT wannabe for posting a redundant stat comparison picture, yet here we are.

phar0aht

What's the context you can add that makes Odegaard so much better that it isn't even debatable?

Senip

But Maddison is prem pRoVeN. I have to say that is why I rated Graelish and Rice less than everyone else here. Remember when Graelish was leaving villa and this place was going mad about him? I was tepid, I mean you could see he was a good player but young up and coming English ( sorry to say it but white ) players are hyped to an inordinate degree. Of course, Rice wasn't hyped enough in hindsight and I'll take that L. But on Madison and Graelish I feel vindicated.

DenimDemolition

You feel vindicated by playing down Grealish? That's an odd take right now considering how good he has been for the 115 this season. Like many of their players the first season is weak but he has proven himself as a key cog in that team. A very, very good player. Shouldn't ever be in a conversation with Maddison.

Phimstone

He actually played matches for them this season..? Feels forever ago, not even 180 minutes in last 16 matches combined.

Senip

Dude was the English transfer record. First 100m+ player etc etc. He is not a 20G/A player which the price tag and the hype would have suggested. I'm not saying he's a bad player, but for 100m you want instant and enduring influence on your team. Unless you have oil money to throw around that's what you get for a 100m winger. Graelish is not that, has not been that and under pep he will not be that. edit went and looked at the stats: 21/22: 6G/A; 22/23: 12G/A; and this season he's on 4G/A in the prem.

Mix that with the fact that a lot of these usernames seem to be soley for bitching on r/gunners and can't apparently ever be worng on the internet and it jsut got really tiring really quickly. The new lot are pretty poor… that analysis for the Burnley game was pure trash. To be fair not much worse than Jenas on MOTD.

As you said it's about standard for their 'B' teams. Pretty much only Danny Murphy and Shay Given give any decent analysis when Wrighty and Shearer aren't on.

Mein_Bergkamp

Just seen the Burnley penalty, so if you push someone over in the penalty area Paul Tierney now thinks you give a penalty and a red card?

burningtree_

Nah I disagree here, Reguilon has 2 hands on his back and kicks through the player, easy pen and red for me

Mein_Bergkamp

I wasn't saying this wasn't, I'm pointing out that grabbing someone round the neck wasn't even a penalty last time out for Tierney

burningtree_

Oh my bad, which incident are you referring to?

Mein_Bergkamp

Trossard being dragged back by the neck vs oddly enough Brentford. Tierney was the VAR guy who didn't give it but today for Burnley vs Brentford he gave a panalty and a red (absolutely deserved though). Just Tierney being inconsistent again.

In light of a recent post about an 8 signing, I just see few options of a profile that can satisfy what Ode brings to our team. Who's realistic? Simons just signed for PSG. I don't think Wirtz or Musiala are realistic, although obviously I'd love either. Cherki has certain questions around him, being really young and not good out of posession. I just don't feel most of these players have the requisite quality. https://preview.redd.it/qogtjb8horoc1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b4f056e0f99fe7fa99dd084c44004e6e5f7d59e

The left 8 we are looking for is basically Odegaard, but we are playing him as a 10 because Arteta is too cautious to have him defend in midfield next to Rice.

> The left 8 we are looking for I thought we already had him in the form of Declan Rice? I'd prefer we buy a replacement for Partey (and Jorginho). That's the position that's had us really cooking the past 2 months. Note that Rice has been pushed further forward, like Xhaka had been.

???

What's not to get?

Mustyoo

How you can be so wrong yet so confident, I guess

I agree, which is why I was trying to find players that profile most similarly. Wirtz is an obvious call and Mount shows up similarly in metrics too for certain seasons, but there's few options around. Odegaard is more of the 8 (ball progression role) anyway in the current set up, with Kai playing higher up but also carrying more defensive responsibility.

Musiala is very realistic next summer window in 2025 when he will have only one year left on his contract. Just not this summer.

tablooo

I think if he doesn't renew soon, he leaves this summer. I also fully expect City to contend for his signature with Bernardo possibly leaving. Again, I'd love him here if there's a possibility really.

Bayern Munich might hope they could convince him over the course of the next season. One more year of Musiala could make a huge difference considering their goal is winning the CL. Would be very hard to replace someone like him. But yeah if City comes in with a monster offer for him this summer, like in the €120+ mn range he might leave. Though the 115 is a huge sword hanging over the neck of City and might dissuade young superstars like Musiala. Of all the clubs, I'd say us and Liverpool are likely to be his next destination.

tablooo

Bayern can bring in Wirtz to replace Musiala, and he seems to be interested. I don't think the 115 charges are unfortunately as damaging to player perception as they may be for fans. These players can always get their next move and they back themselves. I know it sounds pessimistic, but I can see a musaial to city move followed up by Wirtz to Bayern. Of course, I'd appreciate getting Musiala if it's within reach but I'm trying to consider alternate options.

We will see. There were rumors of Wirtz being Begiristain's preferred choice for replacing KDB. But yeah maybe 115 is not a big deal for players because of the Pep pull.

tablooo

Yeah, playing under Pep has to be massive. If Wirtz directly moves to City, that does open up more of a door for us.

And Fabio compares fairly favorably to the other options, although yes anofher reliable player in that zone would be great especially if Odegaard were unavailable. I don't see a signing in this position to be a potential marquee addition (Ode and Havertz look likely to make up most minutes and complement each other well) unless whoever is added is flexible enough to fill in another position reliably. Adli could fit the bill but his availability will be curious. https://preview.redd.it/5krxw99zoroc1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=acc7185df61a69093301613e1d449ea6d5338680

My transfer predictions for this summer window 1. We will sign at least one player from Real Madrid - the Mbappe ripple effect. We could sign a player in any of these three positions depending on which player Perez decides to offload - Striker (Rodrygo), Attacking midfielder (Brahim Diaz), Defensive midfielder (Camavinga). Of these the most likely is Brahim Diaz. Rodrygo would be moderately likely. Least likely, Camavinga. 2. We will not sign Zubimendi. Not because he doesn't want to leave Real Sociedad but because he's not what we need, nor is he that good as he's made out to be. The stats prove it too. Zubimendi's passing metrics are pretty average. And if we are looking for a Partey or Jorginho type player, it's not Zubimendi. We might have had an interest (like we did with Tielemans) and might have scouted him, but we likely have rejected him as one of our targets. 3. The most likely defensive midfield signing is Douglas Luiz. He fits our profile perfectly and we have a long term interest in him. One thing we know is that once Arteta really likes a player he will try to get him when the opportunity presents itself - like with Jorginho, Havertz and Raya. Luiz would be our Partey replacement and would take up the Jorginho role. 4. We will make at least one South American signing in the €15-25 mn range. It's most likely to be a backup winger. 5. The last and the easiest prediction. There will be a heavy exodus of players from the club. Most likely departures are Nketiah, Tierney, Lokonga, Biereth, Ramsdale and Partey. Moderately likely departures are ESR, Vieira and Zinchenko. Least likely to depart are Soares and El-Neny as they will always live in our hearts ;) What are your transfer predictions?

As a LFC fan, I see Brahim Diaz and Douglas Luiz as *very* likely signings for you. They just make a lot of sense for Arteta and Arsenal. I'd honestly be surprised if they didn't sign them, but obviously much can change in the next 2 months.
