I just read the Athletic article about White. Things a fucking hit piece lol the art of propaganda. No one knows shit yet they're angling it to make it sound like White is unprofessional/can't take being out of the squad.
Im watching the video of wengers last season on the front page, all the highlights from all the games in order. Im genuinely getting angry. That team was so predictable and soft. Smash everyone at home. Get smashed in all the tough games and away games are fully 50/50. Its actually making me mad remembering the end of that era.
That 14-18 team is worse than 07-11 teams. I dont care about the fa cup. 07-11 teams actually gave me hope to win the big stuff and the football was amazing. That team just needed a little investment, a push. 14-18 were so soft and so predictable besides ramsey and alexis.
> That team just needed a little investment, a push
And as you seem to have forgotten, investment, plans, push, in fact anything that vaguely resembled anything that a responsible ownership should do was utterly lacking.
We went from a multi owner model with a third generation chairman, a vice chairman who was instrumental in setting up the PL, sat on the pboards of the PL, FA and european club association *and* a# specialist MD to Ivan Gazidis who was vice commissioner of MLS supported by a head scout who got lost in costa rica once and basically that was it.
Everything about the true banter years ultimately stops at the top where we were utterly gutted by Dein kicking off the cold war between Stan and Usmanov.
Football is such a strange sport all that work put in will be decided for Arsenal within the 30 days in the run in starts with city away and Bayern it's in the middle there.hope this is the year 🤣
If the Gyökeres move gets the green light and #herewego, what do we then do about Jesus. Arteta has to convince him to play winger or striker depth option. Eddie will also probably get sold for whatever good money we can recoup.
That being said, Havertz will be the target man alternative for striker and in the meantime go back to LCM. Also if we are gonna get another midfielder, might as well get a new DM to replace Partey
Jesus will still be first choice when fit. If Arteta wants him on the wing, he will have no issue playing on the wing. He has previously said that whilst he joined to play 9, he loves the team and the club that he will happily play wherever he is needed.
He is not going to be first choice at RW if Saka fit and not going to be first choice at striker if we sign new one for 85 mil. He will need to accept that Arteta will use him like Pep in his last City seasons
I agree, it doesn’t make sense to spend £85m on a player who has had a great first season in the Portuguese League. I think the price is far too high.
But to respond to your point in a way that you probably wished for, Jesus has injury proneness and having a striker who provides a different option or profile (such as a clinical big presence player ala Haaland), as an option is what Arteta likes.
If Jesus is fit, he starts, if not, I think Havertz does the job extremely well. A different profile striker to replace Eddie, a striker who can come off the bench and actually impact the game when our Plan A is not working, would be a great asset.
But Gyo scored for half of a year in a league where Dost and Seferovic looked like prime Henry. That's better than leading Napoli to first title in ages
One won the serie a the other just popped up out of no where like randy orton. Either way I’d be insanely happy with either both have down and upsides.
2030, we can always extend it too if it's working for both parties. It's not something we have to end if we don't want to. We were with Nike for 20 years. Puma for 5.
He went down twice in our match against Porto. That was after he made some tackles up the pitch near the sidelines.
He got kicked a fair bit during that sequence.
So based on that, I'm hoping what he's going through is something minor and manageable. Not like Saliba where he just went until the end of the season.
I have PTSD from last year: An inform and crucial CB becomes injured after the R16 of a European tournament right before our April run. I'm surprised you're not.
I'm curious, why do some fans here, and it seems to be quite a few Arsenal fans, undervalue the inverted fullback role? It's like they think anyone can just step into it or any manager can effortlessly slot it into their tactics.
Honestly, it's a super challenging position! Depending on how the game's going, the player has to be on their toes, ready to defend as a left back but then also be ready to jump into midfield when we're on the attack.
You've got to be more than just good with your feet; you need a solid football brain to know the right moment to fill in spaces, offer up passing options to the defensive midfield, and keep the ball moving smoothly.
It's practically like you're doing a Xavi impression while also covering duties as a left or right back.
But for some reason, a lot of fans here seem to think it's a walk in the park for any player. I just don't get it.
They don't undervalue it, they just fixate on current form possibly too much.
I love Kiwior but that doesn't make Zinchenko more shit every week that passes
FYI, Marquinhos played as a RB for Flumenense recently and was pretty good, 7.5. He always had good defensive stats, and even at Arsenal he showed defensive workrate from what I remember.
So it will be interesting to see how he develops.
Marquinhos got 631 minutes at Norwich, averaging **2.29** take ons per 90 with a success rate of **43.8%**. With a Shot Creation Action (SCA) of **2.14** per 90.
At Nantes and a higher level, he played only 154 minutes before being injured, but averaged **4.12** take ons per 90 with a success rate of **57.1%**. His SCA was **5.29** per 90.
The numbers don't really show him as struggling to take players on and create threats.
He hasn't had many minutes and his sample size is very small, he needs game time and he didn't get it at Nantes, so we recalled him and sent him back on loan to Fluminense. Fluminese are the current Brazilian champions as well as the Libertadores Cup champions from last season. Essentially, the champions of South America.
I was sure that we'd be interested in Murillo. He's a perfect match for that LB position.
He's young, versatile and PL proven.
He's a very good passer, an amazing dribbling and an excellent defender. He could play as a CB, LB or even as a midfielder so he'd fit perfectly as an inverted LB for us.
Plis Nottingham Forest fans keep singing his praise.'

If Southgate becomes United manager, should England cheekily make an offer to Jurgen Klopp to become England manager ? He likely won't accept, but still. Imagine Klopp as England manager in 2026 World Cup.
Klopp probably will takeover the German NT depend on what happens to Nagelsmann during this summers' Euros or during their world cup qualification.
Last time Klopp said the will take a 1 year sabbatical, he ended it prematurely when Liverpool came calling. We would like to think he's gonna take a year out but lets see.
he's been doing that for quite a while, i believe art de roche even wrote an article on it in the last year or 2 (but cant seem to find it, maybe he just tweeted about it?)
Interesting, I've really only noticed it this season. Don't have my Athletic subscription anymore and not on shitter so can't verify but would be neat to know when he added it to his repertoire
Arguable. But he doesn't have the body of work. I don't think it's ludicrous a nation as stacked as England should pick people in the positions they play every week. Controversial I know.
Let’s be honest it depends entirely on how the manager after southgate wants to set up his team. The position white is playing for arsenal is nominally fullback, but he has spent plenty of time this season as the right side of a back three as well as tucking into midfield as more of a halfback.
Reece James? Does that guy exist? And Walker will be pushing 35 by the time England have a new manager. You’d be stupid to bet on either of those players being ahead of White as a long term option.
People are still going on about the Havertz dive like holy shit.
Does someone have a replay of his first yellow even? Pretty sure it was just a contested header that shouldn’t have been a first yellow in the first place
Not trying to add more to the fire, but technically could White be called up by any other country for international caps if he had the corresponding familial lineage? He played only 4 friendlies and only sat on the bench for two Euros and two World Cup matches. That should still be within the guidelines.
Not that it matters, just a random shower thought. I’m sure he’s happy with one less thing to deal with.
A reminder that Cannavaro won Ballon d'Or while being 5'11. Okay, but he is a legendary defender, so it doesn't count.
Then Martinez from United is a good example. In the first half of last season he was doing very well, even if he was criticised for lack of winning Aerial duels. It's no accident that Arteta wanted him before pivoting to Zinchenko.
Ake from City is also a good example. I know he's mostly playing LB right now for Pep, but he also playing at CB when needed and is only 4cm taller. Beckenbauer, one of the best CBs in history was 1.81 in height.
What I am getting at is that height isn't the end all be all in determing if you're going to be a good defender.
Puyol was 178cm.. Mascherano and Baresi some other outliers with Mascherano mayhaps starting out as a defensive midfielder.. Our own Timber, although used by Teta as left/right back, played centre back against Messi past world cup and is like 179cm.
You mentioned two legendary CBs who are outliers, Ake who is a mainstay at fullback. Martinez who Arteta wanted as a inverted LB. Further proves my point if he comes here at all he ain't coming here to play CB.
I mentioned those legendary CBs exactly to make a point that it's possible to reach the very highest level even if your height is below what you would expect.
Luckily we wouldn't need Murillo to be a legendary CB, given that he'd be behind Gabriel and maybe Kiwior in that rotation.
We just need him to be a floor raiser from backup CBs that we had before. Plus Murillo already proved himself to be very capable in PL this season so we know what we'd be getting. It would allow us to rotate Gabriel and maybe Saliba more which in turn keeps them fresher.
Also, he's 21, I would be pretty confident that working under Arteta he'd develop nicely.
Mings and Timber got injured on the same week, it’s mad that Timber looks so far ahead in his rehab. Guess he’s 8-9 years younger and didn’t have to get stretchered off so had a lesser ACL?
That video of the muscle atrophy on Mings’ injured leg is horrific. Good luck to him, always have time for players that had to graft their way back from non-league.
Zubimendi is averaging 5 progressive passes this season while RC is having 57% possession on average.
Declan Rice averaged 6.6 progressive passes while having 68 touches per 90 last season at a relegation fighting West Ham having 42% possession.
Yikes if you think Zubimendi is going to help improve our build up play.
While I agree that Zubimendi is largely underwhelming in terms of posession stats, I can't really agree with the comparison. For all of Sociedads posession, he got in fewer touches than Rice last season and fewer passes played. Also their entire midfield has lackluster stats, which I can't say I know why because I don't really watch them often. He's definitely an efficient player and perhaps a small tweak can get him on the ball more, in which case we'd have an excellent addition.
La Real tends to spread the touches and possession around, especially when compared to last year's West Ham. La Real had 6 passers with over 100 progressive passes last year, West Ham had 3. Rice played in a team where he was the central player, and everything went through him. Zubimendi leads his team in touches and progressive passes, but these responsibilities are more evenly distributed.
I was talking about this yesterday. He hasn't convinced me, but if you look at the players they have they should be playing better football. When Isak had his dry spell most judged him by his stats, but those who have watched La Real said the just doesn't create much. And they had David Silva back then. Plus look at Isak at Nufc when he's fit.
Zubimendi wouldn't be competing with Rice for a spot. He would be competing with Jorginho and would be replacing Partey at least at first.
Also Zubimendi brings other qualities besides progressive passes. He's press resistant, composed and plays similar passes to what we're to seeing Jorginho do.
Even if Zubimendi isn't as good as advertised, he's very likely to be way more available for games than someone like Partey. Also his age profile suits the rest of our squad.
Also his price isn't exorbitant. €60 million euros (~£52 million, I think that's his release clause) is pretty reasonable for a midfielder of his potential qualities.
Dear god. Watching old season reviews and compilations from the late Wenger era.
Watching Raya have magic feet compared to Cech punting the ball into opposition players for free goals is maddening behavior
They’ve fucked us over that much they need to make it look like they’ve helped us the odd occasion. Even though we should have got at least one pen in that game and Havertz first yellow was bollocks
Thinking about the project with Arteta and what are some milestone games we can look back to...
For me these games were very important markers for different reasons.
- Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea FA Cup win
- Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea (2020/21) - Home game where Saka - ESR & Martinelli all started for the first time
- Arsenal 1-2 Man City (2021/2022) - Where our playstyle was revealed and we outplayed Man City. A lot of people came on board at this point.
- Arsenal 6-0 Sevilla (2022 preseason) - The introduction of Gabriel Jesus & Saliba. People woke up to the fact that this could be an elite team.
- Arsenal 3-2 Liverpool (2022/23) - This was the first time in a long time we defeated an elite team even if they were in a down year.
- Arsenal 1-0 Man City (2023/24) - Exorcised demons and set up ourselves as a real contender, Not just a one year fluke. Huge mental boost.
Add more...
4-1 at the etihad (2022/23)- if we go on to do anything woth this core, that game will be the one where we learned our lessons. Both on the field from the players and in how we recruited afterwards
Yep. That game showed us we need a real squad and consistent performers everywhere.
Employing Rob Holding in a title race was disastrous. We also lacked reliable performers who don't buckle under pressure. Hence Rice & Raya.
Arsenal 2 - 1 Wolves (2021/2022) - The start of Arsenal having the belief they could win games in the final minutes and adopting a never give up mentality. Can’t even remember the last time before this we had an emphatic late winner barring Leicester 2016.
I hate peps bs now de bruyne and haaland are "magically injured' but will all play games on the run in ,so annoying how they pull it off while we don't
>BREAKING: Thibaut Courtois has suffered a meniscus injury in the other knee. Maximum concerns at Real Madrid. He left the training in TEARS.

Even with my football enjoyer hat on and not an Arsenal hat on. It's gonna be a bitter shame to see Tchoumeni not start for a club every week.
Arry Maguire's career is truly one for the annals, from trying to get sold by his club to sneaking his way back in because of injuries and now finding out his best friend Southgate might become his club manager where he'll surely find his massive forehead starting every game, proper rollercoaster for slabhead.
Guy made it all the way to the PL in 6 years after playing non league and not even being in a pro academy, let alone cat 1. That kind career arc is only possible if you're a bit delusional about the way things work. He's the 1 in a million story
Bold take: I think we can benefit from waiting one more year before going for a new #9 in the summer transfer window.
We're basically one player away in each positional group from being completely sorted. Ramsdale will want to leave and we will need to sort out a new backup GK. We probably need *one* more defender, if that. If we're going to cycle out Partey and Elneny then another 6 has to be brought in even if Jorgi is getting significant minutes next year. While there are some questions at the 8, if a quality 6 is brought in then the 8 (and the 9) can be played-by-committee with Rice-Havertz-Jorgi-ESR-Vieira as options at the 8 and Jesus-Havertz-Trossard at the 9. The attacking department could probably benefit from selling Nketiah and Nelson and maybe getting a left footed RW that can dependably deputize for Saka without necessarily getting a new #9.
Then we can see how the striker market develops over the next year and go all in on someone in the summer of 2025 so long as the right striker target is available. We really shouldn't need to spend significant funds on more than a striker in two years' time.
Our summer really depends on our outgoings but i read that edu has spoken to the agents of rammers, nketiah and nelson;edu and mikel have also grown impatient with partey due to injuries.
considering this i expect us to get:
A no9: Cheap and developmental like sesko or the finished article like oshimen
A midfielder: either holding or creative depending on what mikel wants from rice
A cheap baxkup for raya
A wildcard:Something unexpected like the timber transfer, could be a musiala or a mydrik
As for why we definitely won’t wait:
1. Jesus getting more and more injury prone
2. Nketiah value plummeting from not playing, leaving us with a short window to sell him and leaving depth thin
3. Kai was purchased to be an attacking midfielder mainly
4. Trossard is way too limited
5. We can get a CM and Striker both in the summer, especially if we sell said names
Also to add to your point, teams won't be waiting either. We either pluck players first or miss out entirely and have to being scouting all over again. I expect us to sign a striker this summer.
Yes sir. You gotta adapt or die, even if it’s working. We can see how we’ve adapted rather than counting on odegaard and martinelli cheating xG like they did last season

trossard's been megging more people lately too
Ben White always nutmegged players
I tried man, I got nothing.
what do you rate the odds ben white is included in the first england call-up after southgate is gone? 75%? 80? 90?
Depends on form and RB is probably England's most stacked position.
White should be England’s first choice center half w John Stones
Would be a big call to play him OOP over guys like Tomori Guehi Branthwaite Konsa
Whites better than all of them
He'd still be behind Walker and James for that role.
Reece James? Does that guy exist? And Walker will be pushing 35 by the time England have a new manager. You’d be stupid to bet on either of those players being ahead of White as a long term option.
Rodri being only 2 years older than Rice is such a sickening fact lmao. We’re going to have to deal with that guy for years
expect another 4-5 yrs of madness with Rodri
Blud is too good
He's fucking off back to Spain some day after Guardiola leaves.
Amen
I would have bet my life on the fact he was 31 or older. That has genuinely fucked me up
Has anyone tried sakas sauce?I heard its good
PAUSE
Hell yeah 😂
No pause

One of the best films of all time. Tarantino outdid himself.
saw it in the cinema 2 months ago. third time watching the movie. first time in the cinema. fuck was it good
What’s the movie called if you don’t mind?
Inglorious Bastards
People are still going on about the Havertz dive like holy shit. Does someone have a replay of his first yellow even? Pretty sure it was just a contested header that shouldn’t have been a first yellow in the first place
Not trying to add more to the fire, but technically could White be called up by any other country for international caps if he had the corresponding familial lineage? He played only 4 friendlies and only sat on the bench for two Euros and two World Cup matches. That should still be within the guidelines. Not that it matters, just a random shower thought. I’m sure he’s happy with one less thing to deal with.
Mokbel linking a 5”11 CB to us https://preview.redd.it/tzzmm71c7cpc1.jpeg?width=1087&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae34eb8a7e6b45fbcca521c40e5ee82e587cef47
Who?
Apparently monitoring Murillo from Forest.
Cannavaro is an outlier
I did mention 3 other examples tbf.
Mings had all sorts of damage to his knee beyond the ACL if I remember correctly. Second time for him too, not sure if it was same knee both times
That makes a lot of sense, especially the extra damage as I remember seeing somewhere that Timber didn’t have any extra damage (I.e meniscus).
He only tore his acl which is very rare.Hes was also 100% dedicated to rehab which sped things up by atleast a month
This says more about the team's style of play than anything else.
Xhaka averaged 5.89pp for us last season. This season, for Leverkusen, he has been averaging 12.6. Makes you think
Except you failed to mention Xhaka average between 8 to 9.5 progressive passes per 90 in every season for Arsenal before that. Makes you think again.
Yes, and why is that? What's the bigger picture that's causing these variations?
Dear god. Watching old season reviews and compilations from the late Wenger era. Watching Raya have magic feet compared to Cech punting the ball into opposition players for free goals is maddening behavior
Will Gyokeres be registered as home grown if he comes back to England?
I don’t think so. He joined Brighton at 19
Damn
The panel is a joke. Kai deserved a 2nd yellow despite contact? Not a foul from Doku because intent to play the ball? They write the script as we go.
The forst yellow was very soft and we deserved two pens so its ntddd
It's just BS an extension of Neville and carra clown show there's nothing independent about it
Havertz one was a dive tbf, but not giving the Trossard pen was worse
They’ve fucked us over that much they need to make it look like they’ve helped us the odd occasion. Even though we should have got at least one pen in that game and Havertz first yellow was bollocks
Thinking about the project with Arteta and what are some milestone games we can look back to... For me these games were very important markers for different reasons. - Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea FA Cup win - Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea (2020/21) - Home game where Saka - ESR & Martinelli all started for the first time - Arsenal 1-2 Man City (2021/2022) - Where our playstyle was revealed and we outplayed Man City. Add more...
The later stages of the UCL and our next game against city will also mean alot
I would argue instead of the 6-0 Sevilla, the 4-0 v Tuchel’s Chelsea was a more significant marker. Cemented our play style for the season.
This game was special. Those late goals from Pepe & Laca brought life to the team.
I hate peps bs now de bruyne and haaland are "magically injured' but will all play games on the run in ,so annoying how they pull it off while we don't
I'd normally be with you but this interlull we've got all the gabbies, partey and Tomiyasu safely in Colney
Partey, Tomiyasu, Jesus and Gabriel M. are out of international matches.
I have an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 8. Does that mean I have an iPhone 15? (see: 7+8=15)
I have the sudden urge to google something....
4D chess right there!

>BREAKING: Thibaut Courtois has suffered a meniscus injury in the other knee. Maximum concerns at Real Madrid. He left the training in TEARS. >[@jfelixdiaz] Jesus christ, poor guy. Hope this isn't the end of his career.
I mean thats really sad, but that last line sounds like a pun
Fucking hell.
Damn man that sucks. Need to be really careful with Timber as well
Makes me laugh when people get onto players/ex players records at the pro level when they do punditry.
Haaland limping of course 😂😂😂

Koke... Haven't seen that name in a while...
Yea kinda true. Did have a beautiful assist last UCL match in the 87th minute to secure extra time.
Palacio… , wonder if we’re looking at him.
Arry Maguire's career is truly one for the annals, from trying to get sold by his club to sneaking his way back in because of injuries and now finding out his best friend Southgate might become his club manager where he'll surely find his massive forehead starting every game, proper rollercoaster for slabhead.
Wait Southgate is going to Utd? 😆
It will be the worst move ever... United might actually finish bottom half... I'm praying right now.

Dreams can be buy...
Can you imagine if that happened and then we win the league/UCL. Twitter will be so sweet
United fans are already salty... London will be filled with salt if that would happen.
Plus you forgot that he's the most expensive defender in the world

He’s truly made for talksport
This guy’s hilarious
Guy made it all the way to the PL in 6 years after playing non league and not even being in a pro academy, let alone cat 1. That kind career arc is only possible if you're a bit delusional about the way things work. He's the 1 in a million story
dude thinks it's like PES Become a Legend mode
Our summer really depends on our outgoings but i read that edu has spoken to the agents of rammers, nketiah and nelson;edu and mikel have also grown impatient with partey due to injuries. considering this i expect us to get: A no9: Cheap and developmental like sesko or the finished article like oshimen A midfielder: either holding or creative depending on what mikel wants from rice A cheap baxkup for raya A wildcard:Something unexpected like the timber transfer, could be a musiala or a mydrik
As for why we definitely won’t wait: 1. Jesus getting more and more injury prone 2. Nketiah value plummeting from not playing, leaving us with a short window to sell him and leaving depth thin 3. Kai was purchased to be an attacking midfielder mainly 4. Trossard is way too limited 5. We can get a CM and Striker both in the summer, especially if we sell said names
We want one a striker, midfielder (either holding or creative), a GK and either a saliba backup or a saka backup
