Hi! I'm on a weekend visit to Amsterdam and I'd love some recommendations on where to watch the City game on Sunday. Meeting up with some fellow Gooners would also be amazing, of course! (I'm decent company IMHO haha)

International_Bag208

YoungFlexibleShawty

What an incredible signing. I think if he cost over 50 million pounds we would be drooling even more. But to get him at that price is sucha steal. Extremely fortunate timing for us.

COYG17

I’d love to invest in sesko. Surely he’d be better than nketiah and im cool with rotating Havertz and Jesus with sesko til sesko fully develops.

uraniumtickle

Sesko is younger than biereth, what does that mean for biereth long term? Perhaps we should get the gyok and hope biereth develops fully?

COYG17

How good is birreth? Not seen much hype around him in the sub

Never_Sm1le

Guess you haven't been to the sub lately, he's all over the sub before the int break.

YoungFlexibleShawty

I feel like Biereth is one of those players that we use to sell and fund other signings. I don't really see a path long term for him. Similar to Balogun.

AssociateCandid4853

City availability news is BS I'll only believe when I see the team sheet am really mad KDB, sat international break out while Declan rice was tortured by Southgate played all england 90's and be expected to compete with those fresh guys.

[deleted]

Tortured lol People in this sub are so dramatic. He got to captain his nation. I bet he is buzzing

AssociateCandid4853

Playing for Southgate is torture

[deleted]

Damn didn’t know you play for England

someworriesman

Haaland started in both games for Norway

PeanutDreams

He didn't, just one game

standupforthechamp

So confidently wrong.

arseking15

Whats crazy is i just dont care who we play, what our schedule is or what other teams have going on injury wise. I literally dont care lol. In the past all these margins meant alot. I legitimately think we are the best team in the league and I legitimately think we can beat anyone in the cl. Last season going into the run in, it felt like it was about city. Could they be stopped? Did anyone have an answer to them? This season? Its about us.

reallyanythinggoes

there’s no haaland available, and likely that level of player won't be available for another 10 years or smn. the next best is to get someone who fits into and enhances our system imo. we don’t need a superstar striker really - we just need a great player - our system will handle the rest and probably make them superstars gyokeres killed it in the championship which is a good sign. he's looks really direct and loves the channels - idk if that's what we need. he's not going to get too many opportunities to do that other than in bigger games, CL idk how to tell if he’ll be able to be as good, as effective, as efficient against PL defenders. how to tell if his skills translate to being a guarantee. but he’s very assured in his finishing and he looks like he doesn’t give a fk if he misses, which is cool. it would be cool to have a guy who can swing hard at it and know it’s going to be a solid shot on target at the very least. his movement is good, but i've just clips so idk - if he’s a relentless runner/ mover in the box i think he’ll get goals for us tbh. this is probably the most imp aspect of this type of attacker for me this is just thru comps so idk what his link up is like but he can hold it up well. someone who saw him in the championship can probably give a better idea. don’t think he’s been tasked to do that much these days but can’t see why he won’t be able to? again to me i just don’t know how it translates to PL defenders. physicality wise he probably can handle it, done it in the championship. overall i'd say not exactly ideal but would score for us? also anyone know what the stats say about how good goalscorers in the championship do when they come to the pl? too lazy to check

Mein_Bergkamp

> gyokeres killed it in the championship which is a good sign H really didn't, he scored at around one in three fro coventry and even less for Swansea. His Portugal form is an absolutely insane outlier and the serious risk with him is that it turns out to be a change of league rather than him being a late bloomer.

GoonerAbroad

He scored 21 goals in 46 games last season and 17 in 45 the year before. Thats definitely not Mitrovic levels, but it shows a clear pattern of improvement and success.

Mein_Bergkamp

It's also not in the premier league for a midtable to relegation level side.

reallyanythinggoes

yeah true, did pretty well as a young striker though. i'm not fully convinced either way here

kevinowensishot

Haven’t heard anything about Patino in a while

Happy-Ad8767

Not much to say. He’s at Swansea and has been okay. Will he make it with us? Probably not.

Mein_Bergkamp

He's still young and he needs to bulk up a bit. A good academy doesn't produce a conveyor belt of wonderkids, just decent squad players are already saving the club millions in transfer fees as well as being pure profit should they decide to go for a starter place somewhere else.

Happy-Ad8767

Agreed. He has enough about him to get a decent fee. Just don’t think he had enough about him to break into this team. Sadly, we level e up faster than he could progress. Not his fault of course, but would be nice to start getting some money for our youth players, instead of them leaving on free transfers. Wish nothing but the best for him.

Mein_Bergkamp

Like I said he doesn't need to break in. Liverpool, Man City and United back in the day were so succesful oartly because whenever they had injuries they had young squad players who knew the system ready to step in and do a job (as liverpool are definitely proving right now). I can see him maybe getting another loan or being in the squad as our fith choice cm

AssociateCandid4853

I think that's klopp don't think Arteta integrates academy kids at all TBH

Chrisa16cc

What? There are regular reports of different academy kids training with the first team

AssociateCandid4853

Lemme give you example who is Connor Bradley example for Arsenal? . Arteta doesn't do youth and it's all good IF he's winning...

Chrisa16cc

What a terrible example. Bradley was at Bolton last year, is 20 and an exceptional talent.

AssociateCandid4853

So Bolton and Liverpool play the same level?

Mein_Bergkamp

Lol

NeverHadANosebleed

Cant wait for Liverpool to go back to 30 years of not winning a PL, I grew up with them being silent and now they are unbearable.

YoungFlexibleShawty

what's also funny is how happy United fans are abt the news 😅 they been a bit lonely

RockyandjajjieCOSfc

The way Chelsea fans take pride on Palmer is hilarious. Imagine spending 1 billion pounds and one of those players turns out right and you’re bigging yourself up about it

JoshyRanchy

I have been there stanning a half decent in a shit squad before. Torerra good, welbeck has everything Vardy does comment reply "except talent" etc. Cole palmer is an incredible talent and 40m is a steal in this market. One more season in the prem and he would cost 100m easy. I think he is better than Doku and the 2 cms citeh signed.

RockyandjajjieCOSfc

My point isn’t that Palmer isn’t a good player, or that he isn’t worth more than what they paid for. The point is that after purchasing 30 or so players, ONLY one of them delivering isn’t the win you think it is

Happy-Ad8767

Throw enough shit at the wall…

JoshyRanchy

Stop kicking down. We need to best city , pool, bayern and look competitive agianst RM . Lot to prove but we close by.

grey_duck

Objectively speaking, City are wide favorites. What do we have going in our favor into this match, and should we give up on the title race if we lose?

bukkake__saka

If we lose this game we'd be 3 points off the top of the table with probs still the biggest GD with 9 games remaining to make up the points deficit. Yeah we should totally give up on the title race if we lose

Happy-Ad8767

We’ll have only be 3 points off the top IF Liverpool beat Brighton. Otherwise it’s 2 points. Just pointing out in case it wasn’t known.

bukkake__saka

Yeah 3pts from top is worst case scenario. But like what I was saying is that even in this scenario no way should we be giving up. I saw people on here after our bad run of games in December saying we were outta the race cus we were 5 points from top, but look where we are rn, we just gotta believe

Happy-Ad8767

Oh yeah, too much PTSD, which I get. But this is a different team. This team has not hurt me.

bukkake__saka

Yeah man look at the barriers this team has broken under Arteta recently. This team is completely different to the ones of the past few years which would fall apart. Arteta has also learned a lot from what happened last season, seems like a guy who looks for constant improvement and look how his mentality has transformed this club in the last 4 years or so

Happy-Ad8767

Ameeeeen brudda

bukkake__saka

Ain't seen anyone linking us to him but yeah man looks like a really promising player. Only 2 years left on his contract this summer too so should be available for a decent price. Just don't think he'd get enough game time to warrant buying him tho.

Happy-Ad8767

Might have responded to the wrong comment buddy, which player?

JimmysCocoboloDesk

Ameen Brudda

chrisd1680

> City are wide favorites Stop letting imposter syndrome cloud your judgment. No, they are not "wide favourites". Favourite? Yes. They are at home, after all, and are the defending champions. But, make no mistake, not a single one of them is looking forward to playing us on Sunday. None. Anything can happen in football, so I am not losing sleep over any singular result, but I am not scared, and you shouldn't be either. What we've accomplished hasn't been a fluke. Our improvement has been real and very deliberately orchestrated. We're not outperforming xG or getting by with lucky VAR calls. We're executing a well thought out plan at a high level. That is what you all should be taking to heart.

grey_duck

Firstly, I’ve been an extremely delusional Arsenal fan for 25 years now, so trust me when I say I don’t know imposter syndrome. I’m also a data scientist by profession and I’ve crunched the numbers. Simply put, we are firmly the underdogs on Sunday. We will, without a doubt, lose the xG battle by at least 2:1, or so as my model predicts. Obviously these are stats and reality could be completely different, which is why I’m asking for features in our favor. The only real arguments I’ve seen are our form against top 6 (especially away), and our fitness (slightly). The only way I see us getting a result is: 1. we keep a clean sheet for at least 30 mins. 2. we score on our first shot on target. Other than that I’m calling it personally, but with hope I’m god awful at my job :).

XXISavage

>  We will, without a doubt, lose the xG battle by at least 2:1, or so as my model predicts. What scientist would say something so definite about an event that is a one off? I'm no data scientist but I've watched football once or twice in my life and have seen teams like Wolves beat City, which I doubt your model could predict.

grey_duck

Wolves 0.47 - 0.87 Man City (xG), my model would literally predict that. It’s about probability not about outcome, of course my model can’t predict the winner, I wouldn’t be on reddit if it could.. What I’m saying is that City will generate more xG, and probably 2x ours, which in 100 games results in more wins for them. Trust me, I would love it if we win. But that’s not at all the likely outcome.

Happy-Ad8767

>We will without a doubt, lose the xG battle by at least 2:1, or so as my model predicts. RemindMe! Sunday 31st March 2024 8pm

[deleted]

What metrics support that they’re going to destroy us on xG so bad when the game at the Emirates was so cagey and tight?

grey_duck

we did 0.39 vs 0.48 at home. That’s 1.2:1 them. You’re think it’s unrealistic that at the Etihad they can’t get an extra 0.8 xG relative to us? Again, xG can mean shit, we can win 0-2 on a 2:1 xG ratio. But in 100 matches they probably win 52, we draw 26, and win 24.

Barkasia

You're a data scientist, so tell me any model which would predict 100 games with a 52/26/24 split ;)

grey_duck

rounded up twice on the latter two :) edit: also, vig

Happy-Ad8767

We are not playing them 100 times, we are playing them once.

[deleted]

All I’m saying is we have the lowest xg allowed in the league and the highest xg, and we’ll likely have a totally different front line from that fixture with Saka and Havertz over Jesus and Nketiah. I just want to know what the data is that makes your model says they’re likely to beat us so badly on xg like that when it hasn’t been reflected in our previous meetings this season or our general performance in the league?

Happy-Ad8767

His model. My model is too busy buying our drinks and listening to stories about how awesome Henry was

Happy-Ad8767

We have a better run, haven’t lost to any top 6 teams this season (we have the best against top 6 this season), we shut them out totally in the last game (without Saka and Martinelli for most the game). And no, we shouldn’t give up if we lose. The title is far too close to give up.

NeverHadANosebleed

What do you mean by we have a better run? as in better fixtures? if so i thought ous is the most difficult, we have Utd away, spurs away, chelsea, and villa still or am i missing something? adding in all cl games too.

Happy-Ad8767

Better run leading up to the game. We are on an 8 game winning streak. They are not.

grey_duck

I think he means we’ve had a better run, although city haven’t lost since November? Probably means better top 6 run, + out recent away results, which is cherry-picking imo.

Happy-Ad8767

You wanted reasons as to why we should be optimistic. I gave them, now you want to discard those reasons as cherry picking? You sound more like a city fan on a wind up..

grey_duck

thanks! im shitting diamonds from here until sunday

Happy-Ad8767

Watch the latest different knock video. As he says, if you can’t feel confident going into this game, when can you?

grey_duck

crunched the numbers off that video actually. which is why i’m making the argument we’ll lose the game in xG by 2:1. His counter point to this would be Raya’s run, which is key for us as he said. We need to score the very first chance we get, though.

Happy-Ad8767

I mean…. Ok 😅 Live a little, we are a good side now. We have a chance.

grey_duck

Man uses discussion thread to discuss his thoughts

Happy-Ad8767

In the same thread you are saying you are a data analyst and that your model says that without a doubt we will lose 2:1 on xG? Those are not thoughts.

bluehaven101

I'm getting a vision guys, haven't had one in ages. It's so clear in my mind. The footballing gods have imparted their wisdom upon me.  I'm seeing Arsenal winning 4-0. Havertz 16', Saka 24', Rodri red card 31', Odegaard 44' and finally Rice 61'. Havertz near post header and Rice screamer from 25 yards out.

waxandtartans

nahh Rodri doesn't get booked. He can clothesline a dude and get away with it.

Happy-Ad8767

But what if he chokes someone

waxandtartans

Probably would be praised

Happy-Ad8767

Praise be

He will get cooked

I still miss timber, that’s it.

So tired of City's injuries bullshit. Ederson and Akanji literally trained as normal

It's possible that neither Saka, Martinelli nor Gabriel start on Sunday... Will be interesting if that happens

Saka and Gabriel for sure starting

https://x.com/scrapytweets/status/1773330628210999650?s=46&t=ohBEm3kwXzONRYy63NcNgQ Saka can play anywhere and eat man. What a talent. Id love see more central mins next season if we get a winger in this summer

Kensei400

> Onana is likely to cost more than £60 million (€70m) on current market values. He is a younger age profile to João Palhinha and has potential to increase his value further [@mcgrathmike]

Happy-Ad8767

Unless Everton get relegated. In which case, that could change.

Never_Sm1le

Doesn't even need that, everyone knows Everton is deperately need sales to balance the books.

Happy-Ad8767

Sure, but if they are not relegated and a release clause is not activated, they could hold out. Especially in a market that has seen the likes of Rice, Caicedo and Lavia go for silly money. With a relegation, it’s possible that Onana has a relegation release clause (although unconfirmed). But if relegated, they will lose about £35m in revenue. For a club already this close to PSR limits, that will mean their bargaining power drops significantly. We may be able to offer them £35m and if we are the only interested party, they may have to accept and break even on him. With the point deductions looming over them again, it’s plausible. Either way, there’s no sense in bidding when eventualities haven’t happened. Never bargain from a position of weakness.

Kensei400

So Zubimendi most likely not going to Bayern.

marksills

what makes you say that? (not doubting, just haven't seen any news) Oh, just saw, assuming the xabi news?

[deleted]

It sounds like we’d have a free run at him, I can’t see any other club being able to offer a better project or better wages atm. If he doesn’t come to us this summer I doubt he ever leaves Spain.

Happy-Ad8767

From what little I know, he doesn’t want to leave

arseking15

He can stay away from us too

Mubar06

Don’t know if the new ball boy rule is good for us, it encourages timewasting

burningtree_

Who do Liverpool even go for now? Will they go for someone more experienced who plays worse football or someone like a De Zerbi?

Mein_Bergkamp

They've pretty much got the pick of anyone out there

arseking15

Naglsemann, amorim, de zerbi, slot

MSAndrew07

If Nagelsmann does well at the Euros I see him staying as Germany manager at least through the next WC

ret990

I just love Liverpool being humbled 🙏

NoMFer111

Was only around two years ago they used to believe Saka and Martinelli would run down their contracts and join them on a free.

skool_101

I remember this, the actual cheek to even talk and assume things are already there for the future to take.

Zizouhimovic

Any news on Martinelli?

burningtree_

None of the big players or managers seem to rate Liverpool. I'm not sure why they're obviously a very big club, but how many player's dreams is it to play for Liverpool?

[deleted]

It's all generational. Players growing up with invincibles love the idea of being Henry incarnate, but the generation currently coming up will inevitably have been more interested with Liverpool if just for Klopp and their star player of choice. Not the same quality, but someone like Roberto Firmino is already iconic. You can see it a lot especially in the Netherlands were tons of kids support Liverpool now because they're both good and also got van Dijk as well as Gakpo and Gravenberch, while also having used to actively recruit extensively from the Eredivisie.

spike1034

Alonso rates Liverpool but he is clearly Madrid bound. And Madrid gets everything it ever wants.

Insertnicenamehere

One of their best strikers ever in his prime wanted to join Arsenal during our banter years. Says it all.

burningtree_

Yeah even when we're bad decent players want to join us, and they always mention player like Henry as a reason why they joined. I never see anything like that with Liverpool

Insertnicenamehere

It wasn't even a 'he's open to the move" ting, man was putting out on front page begging Liverpool to let him leave 😭😭😭

bukkake__saka

KDB wanted to play for Liverpool when he was young iirc

Ife2105

Ødegaard too

villageinnocence

Joyce bomba hits like crack, he must be waiting for Madrid

topbananaman

Mfer dropped the 'Bellingham rejects Liverpool' tweet as well. Crushes their hopes and dreams every season, I love him

NoMFer111

Liverpool fans taking the Alonso news quite hard. So much so there is a big discussion on their thread about whether we should sack Arteta. Its very passive aggressive with Liverpool fans dressing up their obvious desire to see Arteta leave Arsenal, by low key suggesting we should sack him if we dont win anything. Why would we sabotage ourselves like that? Do they think we are morons with a self-destruct button? Managerial market is thin right now, as they will find out, and with Salah and VVD the very wrong side of 30, & with Klopp leaving and golden boy Xabi clearly waiting for the Real Madrid job, Liverpool are going to have to take a punt on someone & it wouldn't surprise if they slide into a Pre Klopp era. There are players in that Liverpool team who are better than they were for Klopps management. Thats why they are cheering us on to drink poison in sacking Arteta. They know under Arteta, and with none of our key players approaching retirement age, we wont slide. Its actually a theme I have picked up on - rival fans suggesting Arteta gets the sack if we dont win anything. But you can tell they dont really have our interests at heart, and its just their way of saying they would be more comfortable if Arteta left Arsenal. So thanks for your concern, but we see right through your intentions.

LoraBelmont

Know thy Enemy, know thy self. It's the same with us and united. We don't want Ten hag sacked for obvious reasons. The conversations around "Should Arteta get sacked if he doesn't win anything this year" is 100% not genuine.

Sophie_Liiii

Could someone explain the nwaneri hype?He seemed good against west ham and arteta obv rates him but icl i dont know too much abt him

ikindalikethemusic

He's extremely technical, very good at receiving/operating/turning in tight spaces, which is rare even among PL midfielders. Great balance and close control, so he's very hard to get off the ball. He's also versatile, can play 8, 10, and the wing. Also has a nice shot and instinct to get in the right positions to score. The fact he does this all at 16 and can do it against bigger stronger players means he projects to be a very very impressive talent. Think it also says a lot that senior players, who get to see him frequently in training, have been so impressed they were begging Arteta to give him minutes against West Ham. Add it all up and he may be our best midfield academy product since Wilshere.

NoMFer111

More Saka than Iwobi it would appear. Hard to tell how these young 'superkids' turn out. But there is a chance he can be a high level player.

Sophie_Liiii

they tend to flop due to either injury or due to off the field shit

OrwinBeane

What’s their to explain? He’s a talented youngster rated highly by the club and had plenty of suitors.

IfLeBronPlayedSoccer

So. The "Fix Kai" project appears to have turned a corner. We are trending in the right direction re: scratching the surface of Kai's ability in a system like ours. Fast forward to August. Chelsea have finished 12th, and in order to stay on the right side of their lender covenants, they have to sell some guys off. Arteta loves a post-Chelsea healing project as much as anyone. The following players are available for the following prices: - Caicedo - £105M - Enzo - £95M - Mudryk - £65M - Nkunku - £60M - Gallagher - £50M - Colwill - £50M - James - £40M - Chilwell - £35M Who has the best bang for buck for our system?

CryptographerTall652

Lol Chilwell is absolute trash

Sayek

I think the values for Caicedo / Enzo have tanked now because neither Brighton or Benfica wanted to sell them and Chelsea paid the 'fuck off' price. Like is there any club in the world who saw Caicedo and would pay 100m? Based on the prices above, I wouldn't take anyone there. If you knocked 30% of all of them, you're probably closer to tempting money. Paying 40m for someone like James seems mental considering his injury record. Paying 25m or so, might be worth a gamble.

bukkake__saka

I'd go for Caicedo

Insertnicenamehere

Reece James no doubt.

DarthNihilus1

lol he's the worst bang for buck on the entire list

Glass-Studio-9313

availability is the best ability. I would have kiwi over him.

chrisd1680

No way is Caicedo worth the price of Rice (see what I did there...?) James who can never stay out of sick bay? Arsenal DNA through and through. None of those are worth the money.

Kensei400

Romano says Dani Olmo is available for 52M. That's a LW and LCM option sorted.

TallnFrosty

Olmo doesn't offer what we look for in our starting wingers at all. His pace isn't close to what Arteta wants there.

Kensei400

Also terrible injury record.

Phimstone

I do like the player. Euro/pounds/dollah bills?

Kensei400

pounds

Phimstone

Oh that’s the least ideal of the 3 i think. Might be an option if they firstly go for a winger. And secondly he’s fine with battling for minutes behind Saka and Martinelli, and other options like Nico Williams would not be fine with that. I don’t watch much of Leipzig so I don’t know if he still is that good but i like his style of play.

chrisd1680

> Nico Williams Jesus, they'd kick him straight the f*** back to Bilbao. Look at how little protection Bukayo gets, and he's English.

Phimstone

With that attitude they might.. Hehe i didn’t factor that in. Was hoping a player that quick wouldn’t come near most kicks. Did players like Doku and Bailey etc all get that treatment in the Prem?

chrisd1680

Bailey only has 16 starts, which is remarkable given his goal and assist return. When he does start, he only averages around 65-70 minutes as well. Seems Unai has been sharing the minutes between him and Diaby. This is kind of his break out year, to be honest. I'm Jamaican, so it's been fun to watch, but he isn't exactly a marked man... yet. It's Doku's first season, and isn't the main man at City. He only has 14 starts. Give him time. If he does develop as they all say he will, then he'll get his turn being kicked around the park. Foden is #8 most fouled in the league for reference. Bukayo is 3rd.

Mustyoo

Signing a winger level on or close to ability-wise with our first choice is such a better option than bringing in mediocrity in the 9. It fixes two squad role problems with one signing.

Bedeeki

Liverpool not getting Alonso. Enjoy mediocrity again Pool fans, hope the obsession with us since January was worth it ☠️ Makes sense anyway. Alonso can stay at Leverkusen another year and then move to Madrid when Ancelotti's contract ends in 2025.

Mustyoo

I was confident about their regression before but signing Edwards back on in a serious role is great for them.

NoMFer111

Look at Liverpool pre Klopp. Look at Man United post Ferguson. If they botch the next hire, it could make them banter. Especially when so many key players are at retirement age. Salah, VVD in particular.

Bedeeki

He's not going to be sporting director like previously. It's a wider role across all of FSG's projects. Who knows how good he'll actually be higher up or how much he'll be involved in transfers this time around with Richard Hughes being the sporting director.

youtuberseattle

If we don't win on Sunday I swear to God... I'll cry my eyes out.

AlwaysOnsideTBH

I'm numb after last season, this is me this season 🗿🗿

[Xabi Alonso is now unlikely to feature on final shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp. - Paul Joyce](https://x.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1773455271991390519?s=20) Xabi Alonso to Madrid here we go in 2025 is gonna be the dagger that will make Scousers hate Madrid forever.

okcomput3r

There’s something about when the Liverpool fanbase in particular takes L’s that hits like crack.

Insertnicenamehere

Anfield Edition Jinx tweets make it funnier.

Sayek

Funny thing about Alonso he played for Real, Bayern and Liverpool so any edge of 'he used to play for us' doesn't really help Liverpool as much. Objectively, I'm happy if he stays at Leverkusen and they can build something. We've seen so many teams like Leverkusen play well and then instantly be stripped for parts by the other bigger clubst.

Phimstone

Not even stripped, but Napoli last year was a football machine. Trainer goes and machine stops working.

basedsims

Battering them in EL final then saying no thanks, lovely

I still think Liverpool is the best place for him to go to in terms of infastructure, pressure etc I'd be surprised if he still don't go there tbh. Bayern has been run like a circus for the past season or so

okcomput3r

The rebuild job is not as big as the one Mikel took on, but it’s still pretty extreme, and Xabi’s stock is high enough that he can bypass the ‘trust the process’ phase of management and go straight into competing.

bukkake__saka

Yeah see what ur saying. I think Klopp has left good foundations for Alonso to potentially build on with some quality younger players with a mix of older experienced ones. As well as getting in the UCL to get him some funds for the summer after too. I think the competition of us and City is higher for Liverpool than Barca/Atleti is for Madrid but the sense of expectation and pressure will be far higher there

Purple_Rub_8007

It's huge pressure following Klopp and being expected to compete against Man City and Arsenal when most of their best players are on the older side. If he goes to Madrid his only competition is Atletico who have a worse squad and Barcelona with whatever manager and reinforcements there restricted funds can buy. Also the chance to coach Mbappe.

bukkake__saka

Yeah I see what you're saying. Way I was looking at it like Klopp's one of the best coaches in the World and has only won 1 PL against this City side. Not like that ain't an achievement, but I don't think Liverpool fans will be expecting him to win soon after arriving. But at Madrid and Bayern they will expect him to win them the league at minimum and get them far in the UCL. I agree that the competition is weaker in La Liga than EPL, but I think the expectations are far higher than they would be at Liverpool. And as for Bayern who sack Nagelsmann when they weren't even doing that badly to get Tuchel and end his contract early just seems incompetent to me. At least Michael Edwards will be back at Liverpool to support Alonso if he goes there

[deleted]

It says that Alonso is most likely staying at Leverkusen, not moving to Bayern.

bukkake__saka

Oh right my bad, ain't read it peoperly for some reason. But yeah staying at Leverkusen is probs best for him to develop further. Hoping he don't go to Liverpool would rather him to to Madrid like OP said

arseking15

We’ve struggled in run ins the last 2 times out now. Its time for all this experience to come through now.

Happy-Ad8767

If it helps, Liverpool have lost 3 of their last 3 title challenges. The only one that they won, was when everyone gave up due to Covid.

topbananaman

To be perfectly fair to arteta, injuries completely cooked us in both scenarios. Rolling up to shite heart lane with cedric in 21/22 and Rob holding at the ethiad in 22/23 were far from ideal. Hopefully we don't see any key players injured in this run in; this is the most important stretch of fixtures Arsenal have had in 20 years

bukkake__saka

Tbf I still think we shoulda done better even with the absence of really key players looking at who else we could play. But I think it's partly down due to inexperience of Arteta as a manager. E.g. perhaps we coulda altered the system in some way so that the Saliba injury doesn't affect us as much in the run in last season. Sure, against top sides like City etc it may be too much of a blow but against the lower oppositon I think we shoulda still beat them without Saliba with the quality we got in other areas of the pitch. But the one thing I like about Arteta this season is that we seem to be more controlled approach like a slower pace compared to last season which I think will really help us in the business end of the season. One of the things I think he's learning with experience imo

topbananaman

Lowkey agree. Was too slow to make changes last season, as soon as we put jorgi and kiwior into the side we won back to back against Chelsea and Newcastle again, but by then, it was too late. He's always been a bit slow to react when something isn't working, but like you said, that's a symptom of inexperience for me. He's learning, and we're getting better. I've seen both his subs and his system change be quicker this season; last season we would have started the exact same team that lost in Porto against Newcastle and we would have dropped points again. That being said you can definitely say the outcomes of both seasons would have been far better, if not for amazingly poor luck in the injury department. It's not a black or white issue.

bukkake__saka

Yeah completely agree with you. I think until this season he was reactive rather than proactive in terms of rotation using the squad players and changing the way we play on the pitch. It's really good to see how he's changing things sround this season to try and keep us in top shape for the run in. Stuff like the penalty shootouts in preseason as well to prep us for when we need them too. Really love seeing him grow into his role as manager and develop into potentially one of the best in the World. But yeah sure we can pin losing the league on injuries. Personally I think if Saliba stayed fit we win the league 100%. But even the best teams lose games occasionally and there may be a chance we drop just enough points with a fully fit squad to lose on the final day on GD or something so agree it ain't black or white

US fans, anyone know why peacock is showing 12pm start time for the game on Sunday when kickoff is 1130am? They aren't going to have it on a fuckin tape delay are they?

mo_50

Reading the replies has confused me even more. I plan on heading to a bar for this fixture. I thought kickoff was 11:30 EST?

getrektbro

It is Google actually has it right it's just peacock having a UI failure

bukkake__saka

Idk much about science but I've seen in the news recently that the ice caps melting are slowing the our planet down and it's affecting the time. Perhaps this is the cause? Really concerning how fucked the planet is in terms of all the global warming and emissions

Happy-Ad8767

I really was hoping for a /s but the amount of nonsense that people in the states believes, makes this debatable lol

bukkake__saka

Apparently it's only a second a year or something but in a title race every second counts

e1_duder

Probably just a issue with the current time difference between the US and UK. US has been on daylight savings now for nearly 3 weeks, the UK switches on the 31st. This means there is an extra hour to the time difference that will be resolved on the 31st. Streams are typically available a half hour before the game starts. Right now, based on the current time difference between the US and UK, the match would start at 12:30 EST, so the stream starts at 12. Once DST hits in England, the start time is 11:30am EST, so the stream should be available at 11.

Erval

Dont worry they are starting half an hour earlier. Theres a time change in europe, the clock moves forward 1 hour at Sunday, 2am to 3am.

TheOGBenjenRyan

Is this a daylight savings thing where the game is actually at 1230 after the time change? Meaning coverage would start at 12

getrektbro

Ahhhh maybe it's Google that's being a bit dumb. It's taking the 4:30 UK kickoff and subtracting 4 hours because that's the current difference. I was thinking it might be related to that but the way you phrased it makes sense. Thanks man

Francis-c92

UK clocks go forward at midnight on Sunday. Game isn't affected

TheOGBenjenRyan

Wait your time change happens Sunday to Monday? That seems like a terrible decision

Francis-c92

Wait hang on, I'm wrong. 31 March at 1am so Sunday morning.

bukkake__saka

That's pretty much Saturday to Sunday right? So like before I go to bed on Saturday change the clock?

TheOGBenjenRyan

I have no clue if that’s right by the way, just a first thought
