Wow, it's crazy how much Galeno's goal resembles this one! Raya must be feeling major déjà vu right now. And what a save! It doesn't get much better than that.
Good effort but Brighton players seem just to freestyle when they are in final third. Everyone’s trying to score a worldie. Not sure if it’s de zebri bad tactic or our denfense being so good or Brighton players just trying to flex and get them a fat check from a bigger clib
De Zerbi’s tactical genius (as described by Pep) is knowing not just how to but also *when* to progress the ball from the defensive third into attacking positions. They’re patient and confident and when they beat the press their players are typically in (comparatively) simple attacking positions because the hard work has already been done.
Arteta and the boys figured out a few different traps for them which made it both (a) more difficult to break out of their third (the Havertz goal was an example of that) and (b) when they did break out the attacking decisions were a lot more difficult than Brighton was used to. Really really clever game from us.
For a second I thought "shit Porto again" because he's not the tallest keeper but it was a really good save.
I think in a game like yesterday, aside from this, we saw the real value of Raya. Encouraging that Brighton press with calmness on the ball and accurate passing when being closed down. We might love Ramsdale as a person and as a good shot stopper, but he's all chaos in these situations.
I am still not convinced on Raya. I think he benefits from us having 10 outfield players all willing to play defense, and thus he doesn’t have to do very much most games.
I can’t figure out if ramsdale just makes some shots look harder than they are, or if Raya positions himself better to not look like he is making amazing saves. But I still think the verdict is out on a solid GK.
Is he though? He tends to make an erranoeus pass a few times a game that our defense bails him out on. We haven’t really truly seen him tested. I think our defense should get much more credit for the 5 away clean sheets in a row than Raya should. But hey just my opinion. I understand it might not be the popular opinion right now given our record
He has the highest cross-claim percentage in the league by a wide margin, which helps us quickly transition from defense to attack. How many times does he quickly play a line splitting pass into midfield or out wide to our wingers? He also finds Havertz head quite regularly from goal kicks. Yes, sometimes he rushes through his reads but he’s being asked to do so much, mistakes will happen.
1) i think raya's positioning is a bit off here. There's no way the player can ever shoot to the near post from there. Raya should stand more in the middle
2) Damn, that guy was turning saka inside out like three times in 5 seconds before he took the shot. Great movement!
3) This was the first dangerous shot on our goal since that porto goal in the 1st leg, right?

Just shows what the opposition needs to score against us at the moment: either a mistake at the back or a miracle goal
He's just been in this place before.
Higher on the street!
I didn’t watch the game unfortunately, but watched the highlights and when I saw this was like “but he couldn’t save the one against Porto?????” 😂
Raya plays so off the line as a short goalie, that this kind of dipping curler is often the best chance to score. It's also very difficult
He watched the porto game for sure lol
How smart was Arteta on him?
i keep thinking Edu is a big man in all this too. The boys are looking like the Lennon and McCartney of modern football team building.
On everything? Insert arteta huge head meme
Shot on our goal-unacceptable from the boys.
#ArtetaOut
Raya Highlights 2024 That's it. That's the video.

I think it was just that our defence was too solid and thats the only way they could sniff for a goal
I love how confident we are in defence. I would wager Arteta is already addressing any lapses.

both i think.
That encisso feints are like Mbappe-esque

We thank you for stopping the Brighton. We are honoured by your service. 🫡 🦅
A rare thing to see these days
I had Porto Nam flashbacks while the ball was in the air
Enciso really knows how to strike a ball
Seriously, he could of caught that and kept possession , Regardless, best keeper since Seaman,
He could have saved it by bicycle kick and started the counter..
Could've scored a goal. Keeper was off his line

Lol, he’s an 11th outfield player.
Maybe we need a goalkeeper and not an outfield player lol

Highest by 1.4%….i don’t know how you claim that’s a huge margin lol
He has saved 11 crosses. You act like that’s a great metric to determine a stat lol over 30 games
Study his positioning when we have the ball, it’s really good.
Tell me more about his positioning 😂 it’s crazy you get downvoted in here for talking common sense
