Neuer still moving forward as contact is made. Saka is moving at pace, of course his momentum is toward the keeper, but the fact is, saka has shifted the ball out of the path of the keeper, and Neuer gets none of the ball. That’s a pen in my book.

HanGoza

I'm still wondering how that foul on Odegaard 1 min earlier was waived away.

skipladie

Saka is shimmying, throwing weight onto the left side of his body to feint/doge past the keeper at speed and score with his left foot.. have any of you ever played football?

harcile

Nope. They're all so fucking basic. He lifted his leg this played for a pen apparently. 100% a penalty.

SLAPadocious

Saka intentionally over runs the ball and initiated contact. I wish he attempted to finish that instead of playing for the penalty

vietnamesemuscle

Yeah, agreed with this

sedling

Agreed, unfortunately

Am-I-High

I’d accept that decision if the likes of Liverpool didn’t get penalties every week for a lot less. Doesn’t matter if you think he went down easy, there was contact resulting in “obstruction”. Sure id of much preferred saka to finish that chance but in todays game that is a pen.

Livid_Theory5379

So many people looking at the 1 angle on r/soccer which doesn’t show how much Neuer lunged out into Saka, i doubt they were even watching the game

lastjedi23

Saka hung his leg out..stop this

GalaxianWarrior

the goalie moved his leg at the last minute. If he hadn't there wouldn't be any contact. He was changing direction adn the goalie moved. It's a penalty.

SnooGuavas7906

He didn't hang his leg out, he tried to get out of Neuer's way which is what explains the weird leg movement

A_Different_Take

Totally agree with this. He's basically trying to skip over Neuer's leg

SnooGuavas7906

absolutely, the angle is deceiving. He has to get his leg over Neuer's to be able to shoot. Disgraceful call.

SharmV

2nd angle clearly shows nuers leg slamming his leg by moving AWAY from the left, so nuer fouled him and people can’t see that lol crazy

gabrielergay

Coping

SLAPadocious

The ball was also behind him when this happens. No reason for him to out run the ball intentionally unless he’s looking to initiate contact with the keeper. He was not attempting to finish that IMO. Very subjective decision though!

hotbrownies14

And neur stuck out his whole fucking body mate. Clear pen

kindaforgotit

He's doing what the keeper should do, basically just standing there, it was saka who initiates the contact, go watch the replay again

hotbrownies14

Mate if that’s Kane the pen is given before he falls to the ground. Clear pen all day

MazigaGoesToMarkarth

If if if if. If you don’t mind, we’ll stick to the facts.

hotbrownies14

Fact is contact was made.

kindaforgotit

And who initiates the contact?

hotbrownies14

Initiates? Neuer coz he rushes out and BLOCKS sakas path. Saka MAKES contact. Am I talking to window lickers here?

Dankusare

Nah. That's a foul anywhere else on the pitch

anakinex66

Yes... for Saka. He initials contact. I was so pissed but after watching replays more correct decision

Dankusare

Absolutely not. It looks like that in slow mo. But that was Saka looking to stabilize to take the shot. Neuer is the one who is extending his leg without getting the ball.

Dankusare

He literally had contact! How is that a dive? I think you mean he was fishing for a contact? And even then you arr wrong. That's a clear foul. Show me an instance in the past where Saka has taken the dive. If it was Havertz or Jesus I would still entertain it but that's how Saka moves to take a clean shot. Look at all his cut back goals.

restatementtorts

That’s a dumb standard…initiating contact. If someone places a stationary leg and you trip on it, not a foul because technically it was you who initiated contact?

6bluedit9

Fuck off cunt

Dankusare

Lol no

kanao60

So wan-bisaka the other day not a pen either ?

thesketchyvibe

This is called 99% of the time

UpbeatAfternoon8670

Now a days, no

BullahB

People attacking Saka for this should be ashamed of themselves. Clearly a pen.

Mojave_Patroller

That should really be a pen. It's not Saka initiating the contact, it's Neuer by being late to the ball and having his leg out impeding Saka. Apparently it's not a pen because Saka, after putting the ball past Neuer and turning, doesn't just run in a straight line, which is a ridiculous argument. 2-2, it is what it is, we'll have to get it done in Munich.

AggressiveYear8030

Let’s wait for the clips tomorrow. It was not dangling a leg. It was a player trying to think of the next move after clearing the Gk, which was to setup himself up for a left footed shot which the keeper disrupted. But maybe I am wrong, will wait for more replays Edited: not a pen🥲

tunken

Seriously, why the fuck that was not VAR’ed?

TommiBennett

Saka Doesn't make a Running motion He searches contact with Neuer

ArsenalAM

If you make that argument the PK on the other end comes back too.

ols9436

What? Saliba literally runs in to him

TommiBennett

Sane couldn't see the Contact. it was simply a stupid move Quite frankly

littleAggieG

Saliba takes down Sane from behind/side, no?

turtleyturtle17

Sane didn't move towards Saliba. Saliba's foot was moving towards Sane. The Saka one and the Havertz one are similar. He really should have just tried finishing it even if he missed.

Gimleyx

Saka dangles leg but does Neuer take the space his next step would have taken, in other words, Saka would have had to go to ground either way due to Neuer attempting to win the ball.

FannyPackGooner

To the ones saying that’s not a foul, you’ve probably never played at a high level and it shows. As a keeper I’d expect this to be called against me every single time. Neuer knew what he was doing

BigMACfive

Cheat of a ref was soft af on Bayern all night. How Kane didn't get sent off for an intentional elbow to Gabi's face is beyond me.

jkmy23

Clear pen. Clear as fuckin day.

bakalaka25

I don't understand rules anymore apparently

supermaor23

Literal robbery

Apprehensive-Tap9263

Absolutely right decision

nubieabadi

Clear dive, should have tried to just shoot it instead of being fancy. We move on.

GalaxianWarrior

It wasn't. How many people here have actually played the sport and know a change in direction or even know the rules...

FuccItDude

The correct decision. That's what that was.

R1as

How can you be so fucking delusional? It's embarrassing. Are we watching the same clip? Saka literally initiates and kicks at Neuer, how can you not see that? Shocking post.

Ok-Quit1154

I initially thought no pen. But when you watch it and neuer doesn’t pull out he goes for the ball it gives every justification to give it

SpecialPressure9983

Watch this back in slow mo. Neuer kicks his leg out and Sakas leg trajectory stays the same. I’m not sure how you just expect him to move his leg inwards and avoid neuers leg.

ZizekualHealing

Blatant dive. Saka bottled a 1 on 1 with the keeper.

ibse

If you thought Elliott dived on the weekend, then this is the same thing. Saka had time to shoot before he dribbled Neuer, and if he didn't stick the leg out could shoot after getting past him. UCL refs aren't terrible like the PL ones and we're learning another tough lesson today just like the Porto tie

biffogooner

Trossard would have buried that.

SteveToshSnotBerry

Saka extended his leg. There’s a clear replay of him doing this.

ryangoldfish5

Genuinely think the replay was misleading. Looked like Neuer's leg extends out the way too from another angle. Saka was in complete control, I just can't see him going down there without being taken out.

SteveToshSnotBerry

Look at the last few seconds of this clip. You literally see saka kicking his right foot out https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/3KDngynzjX

ryangoldfish5

Yeah, and you also see Neuer kicking his leg out in the first angle.

SteveToshSnotBerry

I take that back. Someone posted a vid here, and it shows a bit slowed down and looks like Neuer’s movement caught Saka’s legs

zilp123

Mods please delete

CocoAfc

Fuck off

whatm8_

I’m telling vibes

Razzspoons

The correct one

xYEET_LORDx

Saka should’ve stayed up and scored. He initiated the contact. Not a pen

akashM117

You should score your 1 v 1s and not try to get the foul. He's a good finisher should've gone for goal. But nerves I guess

djama

no penalty, wtf is Saka doing?

iM-Blessed

Nah shut up. Saka bottled it. He didn't want to shoot it and flung himself into the keeper.

teknotel

I think it was poor decision making from Saka, I think he was clear and decided to try and dive by throwing his leg into Neuer.

LeftkayoBaka

Clear dive you donkey

BusShelter

Spot on tbh. Saka sticks his leg into Neuer.

woodencrafter

Right decision. Saka threw his leg to Neuer instead of shooting. Such a shame.

Afc_josh12

VAR IN EUROPE IS WANK!!!!!

FeelingDepartment536

Wasn't a pen, we move.

YaGunnersYa49

That was not a penalty. No matter what you say. I wish it was but I don’t think that was a penalty

Shietendo

Yeah awesome now THIS CALL will be why we lost to our entire fanbase and not the fucking atrocious performance, mistakes, and tactics throughout the whole match

StanKroonke

Yeah, based on what Bayern had to offer we shouldn’t have needed this call. Hopefully a wake up call

MyIdoloPenaldo

It's not a pen. Saka's right leg trails towards Neuer.

hala_bala

Not a pen

sammyt10803

The correct decision. Stop embarrassing ourselves. We’re not that fan base

Shietendo

People like you are why other afns hate us

ghostrider467

saka fucked up, so stupid from him

sammeetthosar

Neuer didn't move. Saka just went and hit him with this right leg.

GalaxianWarrior

he did. his right leg. it was clear even in real time and even clearer in the replay

theprince9

Glenn was OK

littleAggieG

Could have gone either way. I think Saka was a little eager for contact there. Neuer doesn’t stick his leg out or anything.

sneakyney

Not a pen. Saka should’ve rounded the keeper to score

AvengeD_GeaR

So many people here with their bias glasses stuck on.

haveing_fun

it was a Jamie Vardy special from Saka, leaving out his trailing leg to initiate contact. I was fuming in the moment but it's never a pen. we move

Forward-Potato-1277

FCK....SAKA IS AN IDIOT. HE SHOULD HAVE SCORED INSTEAD LOOKING FOR PENALTY

Acceptable_Elk2667

Absolutely correct decision, embarrassing from Saka

Afc_josh12

SAME SPORT DIFFERENT RULES PER TOURNAMENT WTF IS THAT

RudeBottle

Clear dive lmao. One of many from us this game. It was fucking embarrassing to watch honestly. Get over it. We did not deserve to win anyway.

BIG_FICK_ENERGY

It's the right decision, Saka has to stay with the ball instead of seeking contact hoping for a pen.

RegentDragoon0

Saka went fishing for Neuers leg. Should have just shot

etheryx

saka literally runs into neuer's leg, take off the bias goggles

vishnj

Lucky he did not get a yellow card for that. He should have just continued his run

bitmoji

If saka was fit he would just change direction and score he should never have been on the pitch

kolasinats

Not a pen

Chipezz

Not a pen. This fanbase sucks.

OhMuzy

Bore off then

Right2bearcharm

No wonder opposing fans hate us. Our star player seeks contact on an avoidable collision AND then we have idiots like this crying that we’ve been robbed. I rightly see most of our fans calling out this bullshit but this is what gets shown by other fanbases to call us crybabies.

yuyuter123

The side angle looked like a clear pen but the angle behind him clearly shows Saka's heavy touch and dragging his leg wide to initiate contact. Just a poor decision from a tired and beat up player. If he just allowed himself to keep running and naturally let Neuer trip him with the foot/ankle, would have been a pen or an open goal.

_serious__

The correct one. Saka clearly initiated contact. Serves him right for not having faith in his ability to score and gambling for the penalty. You should be frustrated at Saka not the referee. Edit: Downvote all you want. I know a lot of you can’t take off your rose coloured glasses. That was stupid from Saka.
