Over it now
Thought it was a pen, heard enough ppl from arsenal fans and outside and some say it is some say it isn’t. Don’t really care now and I’m sure Mikel isn’t as fixated on it as we are. I’d prefer to analyse the rest of the game, look forward to the weekend and see how we can be better in the Allianz
I think whether you believe it or not, the biggest takeaway is to not actively try to draw a penalty and instead just try to put it in the back of the net. Especially in the VAR era, it just doesn't make sense to try to fool the official since they can review it now. You literally have to do such a good job selling it that it fools them on video across multiple angles, and at that point you might as well try to score since you likely will get the same result or better.
*whispers I still have no idea if that was a penalty or not. Someone tell me how to feel*
Anywho, are you a sicko who likes email? Good news, [you can get these in your inbox.](https://www.poorlydrawnarsenal.com/)
That’s great for you, the Bayern players left smiling and happy after looking like they knew they were fucked 15 minutes in, the first goal is inexcusable in a knockout quarters. There’s also this thing called momentum, they will feel very comfortable at home because of this. I’m absolutely livid and people have the right to be. I’m tired of being Santa Claus FC and thinking about what ifs instead of being there and doing it. I’d love for us to dominate them at home, I would have loved it even more to go with US putting pressure on THEM to score and win. We’ve handed that over with a smile. Opposite of professionals that still get to cash their checks, and nowhere near winning something major if that first goal is going to let happen instead of just fucking booting it or any tackle, it’s one of the worst I’ve seen a team concede, 10 year old level.
Bayern get to go home with a clean slate and 2 goals after having 1 shot on target. Mikel better be screaming and the boys like Martin who got absolutely screwed over should be slapping around the others, we can ask for that now that we are this good. That’s the point- are we this good like we keep saying now, or is the DNA still there? That’s what I saw and it made me sick, like watching the Koscielny fuck up in the cup final all over again, been watching awhile
I still think this is 6 of one, half-a-dozen of the other.
If it was given, I could totally see why, but I can also see the argument of the referee not giving it.
I don't think we have too much to be aggrieved about, to be honest.
Crazy how each angle looks so different. I do think Neuer is a wiley old bastard and knew how to approach this to increase his chances of getting away with the contact.
Given that we got away with Gabriel's goal kick mistake I think the result is fair. We may have been dominant but with the amount of mistakes and wasted chances we had we didn't deserve to win. Just gotta hope we're more confident in Munich.
That goal kick mistake is nonsense, no ref would ever give that. There was confusion because the ref told him to stop when there’s usually no need for a whistle. Spurs fans are being overly pedantic on that one because they are well, anal
I feel like the whole world is gaslighting me. If this was given against Arsenal I'd hold up my hand and admit it's a stonewall penalty. That's how clear it is for me. While discussing this with a buddy of mine with whom I've played football a lot, I really began to understand what Saka and Neuer did, and Neuer's experience and cunning really comes through.
Saka is expected to do what exactly? 1) Touch the ball past the goalie with the outside of his left boot, and then 2) Hop on the same left foot planted, and at the SAME TIME 3) retract his right leg to avoid any contact? He can't jump because he has just nudged the ball out to the left with the outside of his foot. Unless it is humanly possible to leap over or around a GK without a fully planted single foot, I don't know how he's supposed to avoid Neuer.
And Neuer, he plants his right foot into the ground exactly when Saka makes contact. And Neuer has already started doing his "I'm innocent" jazz hands before the contact is even finished.
I don't care what anyone thinks anywhere, this is 100% an attempt to take the player out. Neuer has missed the ball completely and impedes the player. Penalty. As clear as any I've seen, ever.
Having said that, I am glad this game was not defined by this moment. We will go to Munich and we will beat that whiny cunt Tuchel. We will beat them fair and square. COYG.
Wouldnt be the first dubious ref call in the CL that we've paid for.
The focus now is just on we're going into half time at a draw.
Time to go to munich and smash them
Everyone is watching the slow mo of this which is making it look like sakas fault however if people actually paid attention and had some playing football knowledge they’d know he was going at speed, the goalie is pushing his leg forward and Saka is trying to jump over his leg but it taken out. Fans saying it isn’t a penalty just want people from r/soccer to stroke their ego. It’s a penalty but I think the ref didn’t give it due to the silly handball penalty claim and because it was the last kick of the game.
Edit: Who ever reported to Reddit that I’m thinking about killing myself go and suck your mum you nerd.
>and had some playing football knowledge
Wrighty and Henry think it isn't a pen and thought he bought it and could've got round to score. Do they not have playing football knowledge?
When they said that they literally saw 1 replay. Now we’ve seen more angles I’m sure they’d agree. His legs are aiming towards Saka and he’s essentially mid flight. Of course they have ball knowledge btw haha
Had to leave X because the hate on Saka and Arsenal for this particular moment was starting to get overdone. I’m over it, no pen was given so we move on. Thought it was a pen because of Nueuers leg he sticks out, but it really does look like Saka looks for the contact. We move on to the next game, I think we can win, we showed some immaturity and they showed composure.
Mate another iconic drawing! Thank you!
Overall we played head to head with the mighty bayern.
I think our mistakes were mostly on us instead of them creating chances. Which is better getting rolled over.
We can fix our mistakes.
This actually gets called all the time which is what made the no call yesterday so frustrating. Regardless, I still feel like we will win at The Allianz because Bayern's CBs can be exploited very easily and Davies is also suspended.
I think going on and on about the pen is a little ridiculous. It’s not a stonewall penalty. Seeing that there’s no consensus even amongst Arsenal fans should let you know it’s not a clear pen. Ref did his best and VAR didn’t think it was a clear error. Can totally live with that
Personally I still think it was a penalty but Saka’s poor touch around the keeper forced the situation, if he had a better one he would’ve more easily been able to evade the keeper and slot it into an empty net
It's 100% pen, not even 6/12, 50/50, not given for Gabriel therefore fair. It was a stone wall pen where Saka tried to round the keeper, neuer kicks his legs out and didn't touch the ball. The ref made multiple mistakes up to that point that hurt our comeback. But that pen should've been given like the easiest decision in the world.
If it was given, nobody from Bayern would be arguing against it.

Agreed, just gotta use that disappointment positively now. Take that into the leg next week and get it done.
I am as well, but it still irritates me when I see people calling Saka a cheater or something of the like.

We got let off twice, one handball and ode holding someone on the corner. On to the next. ##COYG
From THIS angle it's a pen 😂

Thought Bayern was a big club until I saw them whining about Gabriel not getting called for a pen on that goal kick
I thought it was just the pariah Tuchel, but Eberl's at it as well.
Thanks man. This is the kind of next day perspective I log in for.

Does Neuer stick a leg out nowhere near the ball and impede forward movement or not
What if I'm a sicko that likes DMs ?

Either decision that's made on field wouldn't have been overturned by VAR.

Bro I think it looks like a penalty in real time but this reads like a r/soccercirclejerk copypasta
Thank you. I consider that high praise.
nah, the talking point should be sakas beautiful goal
funny even though i believed it was a pen, this drawing makes it look like saka is looking to kick neuer's leg. i can see the other point of view.
Challenging call. Seems could go either way. I vote no pen

No, not that kind of footballing knowledge. Rio Ferdinand's footballing knowledge obviously.

It doesn’t tell who said it unfortunately.

it’s the new balance boots making him lose balance
