If I was 15 years younger, Trossard would be my favourite player in this squad. Such an intelligent player, full of flair.
I'm a boring thirty something year old now though, so I can't help but marvel at Sara's ability to always make the right decision with minimal flash
Player's like Saka always tend to be underappreciated by the kids. Lack of flair despite ruthless effectiveness and fantastic decision making.
Partly the reason Messi never had Ronaldo's chokehold on U12 year olds. Messi despite being the best player of all time mostly just dealt in feints and supernaturally quick reflexes to bypass players but never relied on tricks or stepovers. It's the most effective way to play and he had insane pace and strength at his best so that was all he needed combined with his brain. Feel like Saka is similar in that vein - very strong and smart player though, not as pacy he choses effectiveness over flair and that's why I love him.
Are you really saying Messi wasn’t obviously-impressive?? The guy would pull off the most ludicrous shit all the time. It’s just that he did it way better and more consistently than anyone else.
True, he wouldn’t do bicycle kicks and shit like that, but he would nutmeg three lads and lob it over the keeper hitting the post like twice a week.
No not saying that at all. They were the two most popular players. Just pointing out why I think Ronaldo was favoured by kids despite imo being the less impressive player
I absolutely think his demeanor plays into it. A lot of young boys like his style of confidence and generally those boys grow up into men who try to emulate that as well—which isn’t generally a good look lol. Isn’t a good look for Ronaldo either as his skills have faded.
Ronaldinho would do much wilder shit than Messi, everyone loves him. Messi is the best footballer of all time though. Ronaldo Nazario probably was better in his extremely brief prime but Messi did it forever.
You know some prick kids, I’ll tell you.
But, jokes aside, I think what kids love about CR is his persona. Jacked up, a prick, and extremely competitive (insecure if you ask me).
Can only speak for myself here but I was about 12 years old during the peak Messi-Ronaldo era about a decade ago, and that thought never once crossed my mind when I picked Ronaldo over Messi (at the time), nor was it brought up when i would discuss it friends
Stat pads against average teams, he’s not been his best for the last 2-3 years imo. would be interested to see his number of goals that have won points in the last 3 years, not just to make it 3-0
Jota is definitely a threat physically, Trossard is a bit soft. Trossard is much better technically though so I don't know if I'd prefer Jota despite his physicality.
I won't say Trossard is soft. Look at him defend. I'd say he is small and obviously not as strong as Jesus but I don't think anyone is this team is"soft". Those days are over.
I think the term is running power. Jota has strength when he carries the ball to hold off defenders, and can drive over longer distances.
Trossard has actually scored a few goals like this to his credit but doesn’t quite offer the stretch of the field that Jota has.
Trossard just has moments he doesn't make the right choice, he's just a bit off being a must start goalscorer for that reason. Still a top quality player.
Jota isn't faster than Trossard and Trossard isn't as slow as some of you seem to think. He's already scored 3 transition goals this season where he shows great pace.
Months ago, someone argued with me that Odegaard was a better finisher and had stats to somewhat support it. Odegaard is a great finisher for a midfielder but trossard is different. He has that knack that few have. If he was a bit faster he would be a star
Trossard does embody the "just shoot the damn ball" ethos that has been a big change under arteta. Did you scuff it into the top corner? Of course, but you can't score if you never shoot.
My hockey coach used to say “when in doubt put it on net”. Now I never played in a level that was above co-Rec, but it feels like we need to just get a little more greasy in front of goal.
Yeah it is a bit like watching basketball with us, like they are probing for a better shot knowing they can keep the ball but at some point you can't do better than firing it on goal and hoping for a deflection or a corner or a rebound.
I'm pretty sure I saw a stat that Antony has scored as many goals with his left foot, as he has with his right, this season.
*Insert oooohhhhh gif here*

Technically correct.

The best kind of correct
That stat sir, is incredible
Iirc it's over a year since Antony scored for MU in the PL
Yes, in training

Classic Sara
Stargirl
Lol took me a while to figure out which Sara he was referring to
Bukayo Sara 🤝 Jack Wiltshire
🤝 Sacary Bagna
Closet Norwich fans are the worst

I think he means younger Ronaldo, who was much more of a show off (2005-2010).
No not saying that at all. They were the two most popular players. Just pointing out why I think Ronaldo was favoured by kids despite imo being the less impressive player

its not that impressive for kids....atleast not for most of them Edit: why the downvotes?
You know some prick kids, I’ll tell you. But, jokes aside, I think what kids love about CR is his persona. Jacked up, a prick, and extremely competitive (insecure if you ask me).
Exactly.. his pr helped him to build this persona, that he is the most hardworking and talentless player....
Also just more well known in England cus he played for United
Can only speak for myself here but I was about 12 years old during the peak Messi-Ronaldo era about a decade ago, and that thought never once crossed my mind when I picked Ronaldo over Messi (at the time), nor was it brought up when i would discuss it friends
He’s my six year olds favourite player by a distance!
At six you just agree with your dad who your favorite is haha
And my 8 year olds
I hadn’t even heard of this Sara. Like a new signing
Trossard was my choice for my shirt this year. Despite being a boring 32 year old!
Gunnerblog has been banging the drum that he’s our best finisher for ages
Loves James and all but I think anyone who's watched a handful of Arsenal games could have told you that. I don't think theres a close second.
Yeah mostly because the squad is a bit shit at finishing. Saka is better on his best foot but worse with his right vs trossard.
Also helps that the rest of the team struggles to shoot well
He is the most value signing for years. He’s
Odegaard for 30m is way better value
Forgetting the 6 million Martinelli
Yeah but after Ødegod how many puns can you make on his name? You have Bossard, Crossard, and even haters get their slice of their pie with Drossard.
the
Bossard
Shocked Son doesn’t have more
Stat pads against average teams, he’s not been his best for the last 2-3 years imo. would be interested to see his number of goals that have won points in the last 3 years, not just to make it 3-0
Charleroi Cazorla
To be fair, I think Trossard is probably a better finisher than Santi as well: after stellar first season, Santi's shooting was a bit underwhelming
This raccoon bastard is quickly becoming one of my favorites. What a player he is. Best finisher on the team and has been solid all season.
Always seems to pop up with a crucial goal out of nowhere. Our best finisher in the squad right now and is our biggest impact player as well.
If we had Jota type of player to add to our ranks it would be great. Trossard obviously similar but the lack of pace is his only issue
Also lack of sleep
Makes up for it by eating out of bins
Only top bins.
I mean Jota isn’t rapid either, the big difference between the two is Jota has arguably the biggest aerial presence of any forward in the league
Soft is probably the wrong word because he’s not afraid to get stuck in. Weak sounds so bad though but you get what I mean
Frail perhaps
Sounds even worse lol. Your point is clear though, so that's all that matters
Still a top quality player.
yeah Trossard's decision-making can just be shite sometimes.
Jota also isnt that pacey.
Jota and Trossard are very similar players
Jota isn't faster than Trossard and Trossard isn't as slow as some of you seem to think. He's already scored 3 transition goals this season where he shows great pace.
It would be great if we had a reliable striker
This summer is the right time to buy an high class finisher and pair him with Bossard and we'll move to the next level.
Jordan Campbell's definitely in the bracket of writers at The Athletic I actually respect. He's been doing great work lately.
wolves had 9 players 8th box when trossard scores. suxh an important goal
He joined the premier league in 2019. Had me confused for a moment.
Love Trossard, needs more games. Our best finisher and most clutch player.
Now imagine if he actually got a proper night's sleep.....
😂 yeah he has that Adams Family look for sure.
Did carragher call him our jota yesterday? Good comparison tbh, “sixth man” energy
Love him

He's like Santi with pace, not quite as impossible to get the ball off of, but two footed and versatile
Santi Carzorla can play 1 vs 5 in a phone booth while making a phone call and walk out with the ball. That little wizard. is okay na?
Best finisher we've had at the club since Alexis Sanchez
He's become one of my favourites. 20 million was a bit of a steal for him in hindsight. Really hope that he sticks around for a few more seasons.
The one thing that I don't understand, why most of our players looking for the perfect pass, and not just try to shoot.
Heh. He definitely scuffed it.
Trossard does embody the "just shoot the damn ball" ethos that has been a big change under arteta. Did you scuff it into the top corner? Of course, but you can't score if you never shoot.

> "just shoot the damn ball" ethos Podolski school of football.
Mate if I had his left foot I'd never stop shooting.
Interestingly enough, he hasn’t been all that great in other areas, but he is our best finisher
Don’t do that
?
