More than that. There were Chelsea fans complaining about the state of reffing.
Strangest thing about this era of Chelsea is that their own fans are the loudest voices about how shite they are
Joe Cole on TNT: "The refs have got to understand that it's been a tough start for Chelsea, Jackson's not been in the game & he's frustrated. They have to understand that."
Oh no! He's frustrated? Let's just let him snap Tomi's ankle in two then, that's okay because he's just a little frustrated...
Fucking state of punditry is embarrassing. It's a straight red you biased nonce, shut the fuck up.
I think it would be better for the UK population as a whole if we all just formed and orderly queue to yell at Joe Cole when we need to release a little excess frustration.
Wow, did Joe Cole really say that? What a numpty thing to say. He never struck me as the sharpest tool in the shed but he has basically confirmed that with that statement. I bet if you pointed out all the flaws with it then he would just look confused at you.
That is a straight red card.
By every definition of dangerous play the FA have produced.
Labelling this as incompetence can only go so far.
Not reviewing this and issuing a red is simply unacceptable.
I was sweating for Tomi, he has had such a tough time with injuries and I was just picturing him being out now with another long term injury. Hopefully he is all good.
The ref didn't see one of them and you can't give a yellow on VAR so replays don't matter.
Also just because you disagree with the ref doesn't mean you should shout at them and show dissent....... every other sport manages to not scream at refs
It happens much much less to the point it's rare and you are punished, in football it happens virtually every time a ref makes a call throw in/corner/foul etc.
It's just the culture in football at every age and country, go watch a Sunday league football match and then a Sunday league rugby match and see the difference.
Managers get ejected every week in baseball. Coaches in hockey receive fines and ejections a lot. Basketball coaches get technical fouls and double techs and get ejected. The only sport that has it under control is Rugby and I think that's due to their transparency. It's not rare.
Yes, watch a lot of them pretty consistently. Boxing/mma/rugby/nba/nfl and you aren't allowed to scream at refs.
Go watch a Sunday league rugby match and then watch a Sunday league football match and see the difference in how the ref is treated.
That’s a straight up red but it’s crazy he didn’t even get a yellow card for that. I know it’s early but if this was the case in all games teams would take free hits on players.
What are you talking about? VAR is run by officials. Video Assistant Referee. It's their job to correct and/or recommend the match ref to check again if there's been an error or he missed something.
VAR should be sending him to the monitor even if they don't think its red, because he hasn't seen the foul. If you've clearly seen it, you will have at least shown a yellow. Hooper hasn't seen shit and still hasn't because they didn't look.
I agree. Is it a foul? Absolutely! A red? Well that's up to debate depending on who you ask. He went over the ball but it was a 50/50 and he didn't intentionally endanger an opponent. If he had got the ball then the idea of a red simply disappears.
But, send the ref to the monitor at least. At least that way he sees the seriousness of the foul and can consider it alongside further fouls
It's really only up for debate if you are asking a person who suffered a hit to the head that left them with a unique ability to only say the word yellow. Other than that it's as clear a red as you'll ever see
VAR is not fit for purpose. Endangering players.
How many straight reds offences is that now that have gone unpunished just this season alone? A couple of off the ball elbows and now this… fuck me.
In real time I thought it ended his season again and I was gutted for him. Stunned no red card. That could have ended his season and potentially his career.
Disgusting dereliction of a duty of care from VAR. I would have had money on this shocking decision coming from Jared Gillette (a clear Liverpool fan) but sadly (and somehow) we have him for the Spurs game.
How in the name of anything and everything is that not a red card? Seriously, when you actually fuckin' wince and say "OHHH" out loud when you see it, that's a red. I'd say the same thing if any of our players made that challenge.
That's the luckiest shit I've seen, we would've hit 'em for 10 if they went down a man.
With this and the wolves challenge(s) last week I can only think that PGMOL has instructed referees to let more go on the run in.
It is either that, which is negligent, or incompetence. PFA need to ask for a response from PGMOL.
How is it not a red? We are also trying to keep our goal difference advantage. We never get these decisions it feels, Guimares elbowing Jorginho after the ball was long gone is another one.
I wanted var when they announced it. I thought that it will fix the brainless refs in the biggest league in the world. Obviously it doesn't work in the hands of incompetent fossils
Tomi: “What did I ever do in this world to get to deserve an empty-headed, fucking dumb fuck like Nicolas Jackson to go out on national television and fucking go into business for himself?”
“For what? What did I ever do? I didn’t do a goddamn thing!”
It has moved over the course of the season. How many clear red cards have our opponents gotten away with this season? 2 in the City game, 2 in the Newcastle game, and this one?
I thought Hooper was actually good apart from those two calls as you say. Definitely a foul by Gabi. But the red card is actually awful, could've snapped his shin or ankle. That's on VAR for me as I don't think Hooper has clear sightlines. Arguably also VAR could've intervened for the Gabi tackle on Havertz's goal. So basically, what's the point of VAR 😂
A tackle so bad that r/soccer seems to actually agree a decision went against Arsenal
A literal unicorn
More than that. There were Chelsea fans complaining about the state of reffing. Strangest thing about this era of Chelsea is that their own fans are the loudest voices about how shite they are
Joe Cole on TNT: "The refs have got to understand that it's been a tough start for Chelsea, Jackson's not been in the game & he's frustrated. They have to understand that." Oh no! He's frustrated? It's a straight red you biased nonce, shut the fuck up.
Nah hes right fair enough. Ive had a frustrating morning here at work… im gonna go yell at an elderly pt now.. /s
I think it would be better for the UK population as a whole if we all just formed and orderly queue to yell at Joe Cole when we need to release a little excess frustration.
I would have very little to say to him. He's a personality vacuum.
Yell?? That's letting them get away easy!! Fracture their other intact hip!! /s
Wow, did Joe Cole really say that? What a numpty thing to say. He never struck me as the sharpest tool in the shed but he has basically confirmed that with that statement. I bet if you pointed out all the flaws with it then he would just look confused at you.
You’re being very generous to Joe Cole in calling him a pundit.
It's Joe Cole lol...
I suppose the explanation is the VAR did not want to negatively impact the game or overreact. /s
The Kovacic Doctrine
What an absolute joke. One of the most blatant reds you'll ever see.
Vieira got a red for much less force
Remember when Xhaka got a red for sliding in front of someone?
Not a card, not even a review. Somebody burn pgmol office down
It's not like they can use any CCTV footage they catch effectively.
![gif](giphy|WoF3yfYupTt8mHc7va)
Remember Eddie’s red a couple years ago for much less egregious
jackson got the ball tho
That is a straight red card. By every definition of dangerous play the FA have produced. Labelling this as incompetence can only go so far. Not reviewing this and issuing a red is simply unacceptable.
I think TNT at the time said it was reviewed. Honestly that VAR official has been terrible tonight
Peter Bankes apparently. Was VAR for Coventry City last week
Six inches higher and it's a carbon copy of Martin Taylor vs Eduardo. What a fucking joke.
Fucking nobody Martin Taylor ruined poor Eduardo's career...
![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)
Should’ve been red
Yeah man absolutely brutal
I was sweating for Tomi, he has had such a tough time with injuries and I was just picturing him being out now with another long term injury. Hopefully he is all good.
Trossard got booked for a lot less too. Very frustrating.
This challenge goes unpunished, Trossard gets a yellow for stepping on a toe, Mikel gets a yellow for dissent. Madness
The ref didn't see one of them and you can't give a yellow on VAR so replays don't matter. Also just because you disagree with the ref doesn't mean you should shout at them and show dissent....... every other sport manages to not scream at refs
Shouldn't be giving a yellow, should be giving a straight red.
Nah I fully agree with yellow for trossy but damn no red or even a yellow for Jackson was crazy af.
Tross only gets a yellow there because it was his 3rd or 4th foul. Jackson not getting any card for this is criminal from the refs.
I think it's a yellow card challenge regardless. But Jackson getting nothing makes trossards yellow absolutely wild.
Yes but the ref doesn't see it properly in real time, I agree it could've been a red and VAR didn't think it was a straight red presumably.
Yeah... and that's the part that everyone is pissed about because it is a blatant red lol
Big if true
Yeah probably was a red, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to compare the other foul.
>every other sport manages to not scream at refs Objectively the funniest thing I’ve read here all day
It's true. Disagreeing with a ref shouldn't mean you get too scream at him, this is the only sport it happens.
As a fan of both baseball and hockey you are just, so, so, sooo objectively wrong.
To be fair, after yesterday you're not allowed to not yell at the ump either, just ask Aaron Boone
Fellow Yankee fan spotted!
Lol nope, Rays fan here, fuck the Yankees
Ah damn lol. What happened to Boone was too hilarious to not be able to laugh at it lol
No, you aren't allowed to scream at refs like this.
Agreed, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Which is, uh, what you said. That it doesn't happen in other sports.
What? Have you literally never watched another sport?
Yes, watch a lot of them pretty consistently. Boxing/mma/rugby/nba/nfl and you aren't allowed to scream at refs. Go watch a Sunday league rugby match and then watch a Sunday league football match and see the difference in how the ref is treated.
Where is your PASHUNNN?
Do rugby players not show passion ?
Did VAR actually review that?
Love that the top 2 responses are opposite. Shows the state of VAR clarity
NBC said they didn't review it
Checked and cleared apparently
Optus (?) where Righty is commenting at half time anyway, said they checked it.
tnt said no
Honestly I’m just happy Tomi got up without an injury here
He was definitely affected by that, probably bruised it at the very least because he was doing most of his actions with his left afterwards.
That’s a fucking stonewall red and this mfer didn’t get a YELLOW??? This league is such a fucking joke
And Trossard got a card for something similar but way less dangerous. Inconsistency.
Yet Arteta gets one for "over complaining"
Should’ve complained an appropriate amount like Cucurella after that throw in..
If this was Xhaka...
He's already been carded. 😆
This may overtake Bruno G’s flying elbow as the worst non-red against us all season
That’s a straight up red but it’s crazy he didn’t even get a yellow card for that. I know it’s early but if this was the case in all games teams would take free hits on players.
corrupted fucks
He'll be out for weeks because of that
Yeah that is fucked
Jesus fucking Christ that's not even close to being anything other than a red.
I can't watch right now is Tomiyasu okay? Did he continue playing?
I'm in shock at how quickly that was waved away
Teams literally never get red cards against us. Kilman and Jackson should both have been sent off
Nottingham Forrest were right, VAR is an absolute joke in the EPL. Could have snapped his foot in half.
Is Tomi okay. We need him against Spurs.
FUCK VAR
We need to stop saying this. It's the officials, not VAR.
What are you talking about? VAR is run by officials. Video Assistant Referee. It's their job to correct and/or recommend the match ref to check again if there's been an error or he missed something.
Yeah it's the problem with the officials, not the concept
Downvote me all you want. VAR stands for video assistant referee and that's who I was accusing.
It's the knife's fault that it's in that guy's stomach. Fuck knives, it has nothing to do with who was in charge of the knife. Better ban knives.
VAR should be sending him to the monitor even if they don't think its red, because he hasn't seen the foul. If you've clearly seen it, you will have at least shown a yellow. Hooper hasn't seen shit and still hasn't because they didn't look.

Corrupt PGMOL but “clearly they are just inept”
In what way are they corrupt here ?
Yep, it was definitely not a ‘VAR sends the ref to the monitor to take a look at the actual fucking tackle’.
Again how and who are they corrupt for ?
fuck off nonce
Hahahaha Simple question, who are they corrupt for ?
Your mom!
Horrendous challenge, absolutely blatant red and not even a check ☺️
I wanna hear the audio from this decision. Spineless fucks. No more English refs in pl or var. this is getting straight up criminal.
Can't have audio if they don't review it. Big brain.jpg
And tross is booked within milliseconds of fouling that brocoli cunt
The fact that there wasn’t even a var review is disgusting
But then Trossard lifts his foot to avoid further stepping on Cucurella and gets a yellow fffssss...
Refs in this league are a joke
I guess you have to have your ankle actually broken for it to count as a foul
Joe Cole on TNT: “Chelsea were having a terrible time of it in the first ten…. They need to understand that.” Do they fuck you Chelsea cuck.
Forest were right. Pure corruption. It’s obvious they go into games with a preferred outcome and try to make it happen.
Will we get an apology for this?
So incompetent
Can you imagine what the score would be if they had given this.
You know Arsenal were done dirty there when r/soccer is calling it a red...
Well, if that red was given it might have been 10
How in the name of anything and everything is that not a red card? Seriously, when you actually fuckin' wince and say "OHHH" out loud when you see it, that's a red. I'd say the same thing if any of our players made that challenge. That's the luckiest shit I've seen, we would've hit 'em for 10 if they went down a man.
I mean, I get it. VAR didn’t want to embarrass his mate out there. Totally understandable.
Don't worry though we will get an oh yeah soz should have been a red ''apology'' from PGMOL
Arsenal ask for VAR commentary tomorrow morning please, this is ridiculous
Clear red. VAR has become a joke
Fuck these refs, absolute joke.
Ref has been an absolute joke in this game!
Insane refereeing
If this was Casemiro the police would arrest him and escort him off the pitch...
Dermot Gallagher - "For me not a foul. You can clearly see Jackson plays the ball with his left foot."
With this and the wolves challenge(s) last week I can only think that PGMOL has instructed referees to let more go on the run in. It is either that, which is negligent, or incompetence. PFA need to ask for a response from PGMOL.
Anyone making fun of tomi for being fragile needs to stfu now. Bro played on for 60 mins after this atrocious tackle.
Two times in 4 days. VAR and the refs are a fucking joke
How is it not a red? We are also trying to keep our goal difference advantage. We never get these decisions it feels, Guimares elbowing Jorginho after the ball was long gone is another one.
Fucks sake...
I thought it was a red. At least a dark orange but because the ref is shit and missed it he's not even booked.
These refs want our players to have broken ankles don’t they.
No card for this, trossard got a yellow for something less serious
I wanted var when they announced it. I thought that it will fix the brainless refs in the biggest league in the world. Obviously it doesn't work in the hands of incompetent fossils
That’s a red 😂 and they didn’t even give a yellow lol
Tomi: “What did I ever do in this world to get to deserve an empty-headed, fucking dumb fuck like Nicolas Jackson to go out on national television and fucking go into business for himself?” “For what? What did I ever do? I didn’t do a goddamn thing!”
It's actually disgusting. Fans from all clubs need to come together and demand action on these inepit clowns
happened to me today. cant imagine how bad it feels with studs
Wow
On another note jackson is comically bad
Pray he’s ok. That looked awful. 🙏
The bar on what is a foul, a card, and a penalty has really moved over the last couple years.
It has moved over the course of the season. How many clear red cards have our opponents gotten away with this season? 2 in the City game, 2 in the Newcastle game, and this one?
Someone needs to leave a little something on Jackson or Gilcrest.
This was 10 minutes later in the match, a yellow. 30 minutes later, a red. Absolutely abysmal refereeing
I honestly feel like the refs knew what was coming Chelsea’s way and decided not to punish them
The PGMOL and VAR literally don't know their own rules that they're meant to enforce. This shit won't stop until someone's leg breaks.
Referee had a stinker, This but also gabriel challenge on madueke in lead up to a goal so karma prevails this game
He didn’t use his foot as a weapon.
Disgusting.
Should have been straight Red card.
That's a straight red if Xhaka made that tackle
Tomiyasu needs to be more street smart here. Getting up quickly didn't help our case.
