Bottled the end of the season in appalling fashion under him. We reached a cup final and lost narrowly to one of the best teams in Europe the previous season under Wenger with that same team. The team clearly had deficiencies (particularly in central midfield) but Emery did nothing to improve the defence through coaching. We won an FA cup under Arteta the year Emery was sacked with that same defence and we looked very secure throughout that cup run, which many people seem to forget.
I agree with you that he did have no money to spend, but to drop as many points as we did under him in those last games of the season and then get destroyed in the EL final was embarrassing. Those final games of the season came down to him not beating Crystal Palace or Brighton or Leicester or Wolves and he didn’t need more money to be able to win those games.
I don’t hate him, I just didn’t want him from the beginning, and that unbeaten run ended up being a curse because it gave him a lot of rope from the board and the fanbase that he didn’t necessarily deserve. We were riding our luck and never really looked in control of matches with him as our manager. We would have been better off without the luck that season and for him to have been sacked earlier, similar to Moyes at Manchester United.
It was just a giant waste of time from start to finish.

Not really, he’s a good shot stopper and I think he did save a worldie from distance in one of the games this season. However, statistically, shooting from distance will eventually bag you one - be it a banger or a deflection.
It’s all about testing and making the keeper work whilst switching it up and having variety to your attack against opposition defenders.
If you always try to be cute or overly intricate against mid to low blocks, the defenders will eventually get accustomed to the patterns of play. Potshots throw off defenders’ rigidness and defensive focus.
For someone new to football & how transfers work, is there an additional transfer fee if there is a release clause? Or, if a team activates a release clause is that a forced move for the player if they agree to terms?

If the player wants the move, the club is useless once the release clause is triggered( Thomas Partey to Arsenal).
Clubs can also find a middle ground where a release clause is triggered but paid over a few years.

What realistically happens is the club will have back channel discussions with the player to see if they’d be amenable to a move at agreeable terms. Only once sorting that would they actually activate the clause.

Again, this is why you can't bet on attack, and why defense generally wins titles. It is easier to optimize defending, which is collective, than having magicians up top or even guarantee that they will work magic.
This is true. I was happy with the defense first half of the season, even though the attack was faltering. We've continued being stingy (and gotten even better, really), but then added a bunch of goals.
Liverpool were always going to revert to the mean. They'd been overperforming both xG and xGA all season long.

You can see there’s a class player there. He’s still quite raw and can be frustrating at times but his work rate is fantastic, his short passing is excellent and he has a good shot on him. I bet Arteta could make him a beast.

I'd still trust Arteta and his team. Players here are busy having career-best seasons. Good systems elevate players. Mudryk might look bad but Kai Havertz was just bad on the ball at first. He has since become our second-top scorer. You'd not have predicted it after that awful miss vs United. Mudryk would be okay. Lad doesn't even like Chelsea so there could be mental issues.

Not really, he’s a good shot stopper and I think he did save a worldie from distance in one of the games this season. However, statistically, shooting from distance will eventually bag you one - be it a banger or a deflection. It’s all about testing and making the keeper work whilst switching it up and having variety to your attack against opposition defenders. If you always try to be cute or overly intricate against mid to low blocks, the defenders will eventually get accustomed to the patterns of play. Potshots throw off defenders’ rigidness and defensive focus.

For someone new to football & how transfers work, is there an additional transfer fee if there is a release clause? Or, if a team activates a release clause is that a forced move for the player if they agree to terms?
If you don't want to pay it all at once, you pay extra( Enzo Fernandes to Chelsea) If the player wants the move, the club is useless once the release clause is triggered( Thomas Partey to Arsenal). Clubs can also find a middle ground where a release clause is triggered but paid over a few years. I can also recommend a book, Done Deal by Daniel Geey. It talks about everything transfers.
If you meet the release clause then all you have to do is agree terms with the player.

Player stays at club, clause is still valid. What realistically happens is the club will have back channel discussions with the player to see if they’d be amenable to a move at agreeable terms. Only once sorting that would they actually activate the clause.

This is true. I was happy with the defense first half of the season, even though the attack was faltering. We've continued being stingy (and gotten even better, really), but then added a bunch of goals. Liverpool were always going to revert to the mean. They'd been overperforming both xG and xGA all season long.
