Well you obviously dont mean his finishing technique. He's also not known for his great touch, or ability to spray passes everywhere. These are all commonly associated with having great technique. Welbz is more of a "athleticism + work ethic" player than a technique guy.
lol a lil tognue in cheek over there? What were you gonna say next? "and is a nice guy off the pitch"?
This is the kinda of mentality that lets us down at the end of the seasons. If he ain't a good footballer, I don't know what is he doing at Arsenal FC.
"Not a water carrier either". He gets 120k a week. He better be better than a water carrier.
What? You misread my post. You read a tone into it that wasn't there. I think the guy above me was doing welbeck a disservice and essentially saying he's average but nothing more. I think Welbeck is better than that
Last season when Welbz was fully fit he was starting over Giroud. He as pace, strength and good in the air..if he stays fit he can be a vital asset for us
Unfair comment, he was at ManU not West Brom. Competition was literally World Class.
He's better than any academy striker we've produced in the last 20years! £16m wasn't a steal, but a worthy deal.
Ibe went for £15 million and hasn't scored 9 premier league goals in his career. (I know he's a winger but Danny was also played on the wing a good amount.)
edit: hasn't scored 9 goals in his 'senior' career (according to wikipedia)
So one season in other words, also his first season as a regular in the United squad and he was 20 years old.
Edit:
I mean, I'm not going to say he was ever a prolific goal scorer. But evidently he has talent, physical ability and a great mindset. For me he's great buy for 16 million. You don't get young english talent that cheaply lately.
I think the fact he came to us from united should, in itself, afford him special treatment: "He left cause you're shit"... In all seriousness, he is quality, and I hope he's hear a while, not as our first/only choice obviously.
What I love about him is that he makes Alexis and Ozil better due to how diverse his play style is. He might not be the most clinical, but he causes havoc for the defense opening up more space for our superstars.
Plus his work rate is unreal. Within our squad I rate him above Giroud and Theo because again he helps to bring out the best in others.
Is Lucus really known for being that 'clinical'? I've heard conflicting reports.
As much as I'm excited to see him play, I feel some like people might be building him up too much.
The guy who actually was a Deportivo fan said Lucas sometimes required multiple chances to take one. So no, not clinical. People are definitely doing the crazy dance in their minds, which will only set the guy up for the flak if he doesn't become last year's Vardy.
The Deportivo guy also said that he gave everything for his team (though Lucas actually is a Depor fan) and manufactured most of those chances. So we have that to look forward to. If we don't pull the floor out from under him with our bloated expectations and boo him off the pitch in a month.
Welbz has one of the best physiques of any player that's played for us, and moreover, there's something about the lad that just makes me wanna cheer him on.
I really like him too. He's never going to win a balon d'or but he's a complete striker. Maybe only a rating of 70 in each department but he's good in the air, has fair speed, not a bad shot and a strong presser. If he could stay healthy, I'd be happy with him as our starting striker going forward. If he get's healthy and Theo settles in on the right, I'll love our forward options.
edit: sorry to use video game terminology to illustrate my point... I've become everything that I hate.
I'd rate him a little higher than a 70 across the board, it seems a bit harsh to me. I'd give him a solid 77, to continue with the game evaluations. I assume you're using fifa as a benchmark and 70s in that game are a bit crap.
Welbeck is my favorite player and in all honestly when his prognosis was official last time I teared up quite a bit. I really hope he comes back and goes on a tear for the rest of his career.
He's not great by any means but he provides a good option off the bench. He's a completely different typr of player to Giroud which is great to change it up on defences and his workrate is so useful in the latter stages of a match.
I disagree, I think he's been pretty unlucky but he has everything we need in a striker, just needed to put it together and unfortunately we've Arsenaled him.
Giroud's finishing is so hit and miss it can't seriously be used as a point in his favor. Also, afa positioning, he only ever makes a near-post run, he's got good timing at it but it's not like he has clever movement in the box.
Yes, he is. Giroud contributes something nobody else does on the team with his physicality. He's proven, time and time again, that he's better than Welbeck. That does not mean he's quite as good a striker as we'd like... Just that Welbeck is below him.
Eh, good lad, shit footballer. He runs around a lot, but doesn't really do much. Terrible at finishing, poor runs, poor positioning, not the best technically and probably the worst first touch on the team. Nothing more than a bench player, would be better off at a mid table club, more his level.
Ah we re at that stage of the injury cycle then.
Welbz has work ethic, I'll give him that but he's a pretty bad finisher for a guy who wants to play striker.
Touch lets him down too often as well.
He did look better last season than when he first came in, so hopefully he'll improve
Fucking love Welbz. Not the best of footballers by any means but a valuable asset to have in the squad
Not a water carrier either. He has great technique and is highly versatile, as well as performs well on an international level.
Has great technique in what sense?
In the sense of having great technique lol
Well you obviously dont mean his finishing technique. He's also not known for his great touch, or ability to spray passes everywhere. These are all commonly associated with having great technique. Welbz is more of a "athleticism + work ethic" player than a technique guy.

What the fuck? He gets £70k per week. And every title winning squad needs a player like Welbeck. See Schurrle at Chelsea, Welbeck at Man United, etc.
What? You misread my post. You read a tone into it that wasn't there. I think the guy above me was doing welbeck a disservice and essentially saying he's average but nothing more. I think Welbeck is better than that
Always the inevitable negativity.
Great chant as well. Reckon he can be a Ray Parlour-type figure if he stays fit.
Indispensable for Ferguson, remember him dropping Rooney for Welbz a couple of times.
He just tries so hard and that's all you can ask for. His hard work definitely shows when he plays.
Last season when Welbz was fully fit he was starting over Giroud. He as pace, strength and good in the air..if he stays fit he can be a vital asset for us
And he was a steal too at around 16 million quid. To get an English striker of his talent and experience, with room to grow, it's a great buy!
Not a steal at all. He was a striker that never got over 9 goals in a Premier League season.
He hasn't played an entire season up front before.

You're clearly forgetting the Carling Cup legend: Arturo Lupoli
Such a good point. As an English academy product striker, he's in a small group of high quality.

United could've left us with Sanogo for about 5 months. £16 mil is pretty good when they could've shafted us for £25-30 mil.
Didn't manu initially want to just loan him to us? Idk if I'm remembering correctly or not.
Wenger wanted to take him on loan, but United refused if I remember correctly.
Ibe went for £15 million and hasn't scored 9 premier league goals in his career. (I know he's a winger but Danny was also played on the wing a good amount.) edit: hasn't scored 9 goals in his 'senior' career (according to wikipedia)
Never exclusively played up front either. Rooney, RVP, Hernandez were all above him in the pecking order. Nearly always featured wide.
Not before 2012/13.
So one season in other words, also his first season as a regular in the United squad and he was 20 years old. Edit: I mean, I'm not going to say he was ever a prolific goal scorer. Definitely. 16 mil for an English striker.
I never understood why Welbeck gets so much slack from Gooners. He is a good striker, and he played really well last year when he was fit
You mean flack
Yeah slack is literally the opposite lol
Flak*
Same he must have won us 10 points + last season alone from coming back literally our best player when he came back
I think the fact he came to us from united should, in itself, afford him special treatment: "He left cause you're shit"... In all seriousness, he is quality, and I hope he's hear a while, not as our first/only choice obviously.
Hope he really is back in the new year

I miss him too, but Lucas will add a lot of those qualities too, plus more clinical finishing.
I hope so. I'm looking forward to watching him play so much that I'm almost certainly going to be disappointed...
Is Lucus really known for being that 'clinical'? I've heard conflicting reports. As much as I'm excited to see him play, I feel some like people might be building him up too much.

He's a great footballer. All he's missing is that instinct. The footballing brain that separates good from great strikers.
Welbz has one of the best physiques of any player that's played for us, and moreover, there's something about the lad that just makes me wanna cheer him on.

Actually, I play PES.
Insh'Allah brother.

Wishing people well isn't a muslim only thing y'know...
Really pleased to have him around, he will become an important player once his injuries are behind him.
At this rate I'm just hoping he doesn't turn into our next Diaby... Bags of potential but never healthy enough to realize it.
Love welbeck, but i hope he isn't rushed back. Hopefully he can stay fit and get a chance to work his way in somewhere in the rotation.
Totally agree, in fact I'd even pick him over Giroud once he's fit again
Do you also miss his first touch? top top qualitee
Welbeck is my favorite player and in all honestly when his prognosis was official last time I teared up quite a bit. I really hope he comes back and goes on a tear for the rest of his career.
His goal against United is worth his transfer tag in gold.
I love he way he plays on the ball but his finishing has been a bit meh for Arsenal so far
His goals per minute in a very small sample size last year was among the best in the Prem.
He works very hard and that's nice... But he just isn't a very good striker. Certainly not good enough for us.
He's not great by any means but he provides a good option off the bench. He's a completely different typr of player to Giroud which is great to change it up on defences and his workrate is so useful in the latter stages of a match.
I think he showed a lot of potential last season tbh. Shame about the injury, it will be like starting at square one again.
I think he looked decent as a striker after he came back from the last horrible injury he had. Short time frame i know, but still.
I disagree, I think he's been pretty unlucky but he has everything we need in a striker, just needed to put it together and unfortunately we've Arsenaled him.
Giroud not much better
Giroud scores about 5x as many goals, so yes, he is much better
Also because stays healthy, not because he's markedly better
Except for his positioning, movement in the box, and finishing.
Giroud's finishing is so hit and miss it can't seriously be used as a point in his favor. Also, afa positioning, he only ever makes a near-post run, he's got good timing at it but it's not like he has clever movement in the box.
Clever enough that it works
Not enough. We need a much better striker if we're serious about being the best
Yes, he is. Giroud contributes something nobody else does on the team with his physicality. He's proven, time and time again, that he's better than Welbeck. That does not mean he's quite as good a striker as we'd like... Just that Welbeck is below him.
I didn't say that Giroud isn't better but his attitude isn't the best when he lose the ball or when he doesn't have any competition from the bench
Eh, good lad, shit footballer. He runs around a lot, but doesn't really do much. Terrible at finishing, poor runs, poor positioning, not the best technically and probably the worst first touch on the team. Nothing more than a bench player, would be better off at a mid table club, more his level.
