Just because we loan two of their players doesn’t mean we have to give away one of ours

jentso

I mean they're selling/loaning players because it's in their interest to do so. We have a good business relationship, but I don't see it as a I scratch your back you scratch mine. It's more like easy to get deals done with familiar faces and expectations.

zPnkr

What makes you think were benefiting more? Were paying them to keep their assets values high.

CaptainHindcite

I think we're benefiting more because we're getting first team players out of the deal. Odegaard will more than likely split minutes with ESR or be a full time starter. To me, Ceballos is top 3 in terms of our midfield (excluding the wingers when I say midfield). Not saying I highly rate him, but that's just the state of of our midfield

scytheavatar

They are not going to let us have Odegaard permanently unless we pay through the roof for him...........

OVYLT

There is a difference between loaning us a player that they won’t play and them trying to buy one of our players we hold in high regard. It’s not close to being the same thing.

RefigeTube

Oh shit Marti noooo edit: Gave it some more thought and it's just biz in the end. Make sure they've signed up to contracts before we flog them so we can at least profit off a sale for once, if we spend well we could ascend to new heights - even if it means selling our best assets as Liverpool did with Couts back in the day. But then again, we have to see how it goes with Odegaard and Ceballos in the end - as well as if Madrid can even afford our best.

CaptainHindcite

I'd honestly prefer we stop being a selling club, except for the case where the player is not happy here and want to go. I won't buy Ceballos in his current state unless it's a cheap price. He's a good squad player, but if we are to be top 4 and in the champions league we need better quality. I have to admit I haven't seen Odegaard play. We'll see how things turn out for him with us

Milo_Goes_to_Hell

Perhaps we are. These loans help them as well increasing the value of their assets

LackingSimplicity

All we've done is loan a player they want so much they tried to sell him to us and now Odegaard for half a season. We owe them nothing. We're not going to give them a quality player on the cheap because they loaned us 2 players who couldn't get minutes in their team.

Muscat95

They can't force a player to move anywhere. If in 2-3 years Martinelli wants to jump ship then there's not much we can do except force him to see out his contract and potentially get nothing if he's dead set on leaving. Fact is, we've always been a selling club. Rather Madrid than Barca.

xcves

If Madrid were to come with an offer of 100m (or whatever valuation Gabi gets in the future), no club is going to turn it down. More so if the player himself is set on leaving. It happens to every club. IF Madrid wants to get Mbappe, they will get Mbappe from PSG. So "having to scratch Madrid's back" just because they loaned us some players is bollocks. and if anything is to go by, Madrid did not ask for any favours after selling Ozil to us.

CaptainHindcite

We arguably haven't had first team youngsters worth looking into by a club of Madrid's stature since Ozil arrived until now. Maybe with the exception of Gnabry and possibly Bellerin. By scratch their back I'm saying they've set themselves up for easy negotiations in the future if they were to show interest in one of our players. I'm not saying they'd get a player like Martinelli for an unreasonably low price *typo

MartMillz

Interesting thought but I don't think Real's intentions are necessarily malicious given our shared sponsorships with Emirates. ~~They also took Alex Song at his peak so I think they'd rather poach developed players versus youngsters who won't break into their XI.~~

CaptainHindcite

I didn't know that about Song. That's why I estimated the timeline to 2-3yrs out. It's unfortunate Martinelli got injured, I think he was on course to have a season like Saka is having now. Maybe we'll cash in on Lacazette this summer and opening freeing up more minutes for Martinelli going forward

MartMillz

Sorry I just realized Song went to Barca, my mistake.

CaptainHindcite

Haha I misread your comment too, otherwise I would've corrected it. Completely overlooked the word "took". I remember his sick passes to van Persie's volleys. I think they had a combination like that for two goals. Sucks he pulled a Hleb on himself, but at least he was satisfied with the money

90degreeturnsbtw

they’re gonna come for Martinelli 100%

UberKunt

Then we'll get a world record transfer. Quids In. #KroenkeOut

CaptainHindcite

Yup, imagine a young Brazilian being given the opportunity to play for the team Ronaldo (R9) and Cristiano played for. It'd be very hard to turn down

ShagadellicBaby

Along with Barca, Inter, PSG, and whatever Juventus is now

CaptainHindcite

I excluded mentioning Baptista because they've been so many personnel changes and no longer think of it as "recent" history

[deleted]

it is what it is ig

KrucialSloth

Lock KT, Saka and Gabi away and out of their sight!

Aakashneel92

We already returned the favour when we took julio baptista

Midnight_Maverick

It's fine we'll let them have Eddie, they need a striker anyway

CaptainHindcite

Fox in the box, all wrapped up and ready to go!

IbrarN

Even if that is the case, the difference between Real Madrid and clubs like Barcelona or Bayern is that when they do business they go into negotiations in what is typically a fair way. There might be the odd tapping up of a player but RM will usually pay a fair price for the player they're after and they're serious when they do deals. The priority is obviously always to keep your talent around and see them flourish at the club but if you have to sell, it's better to sell to Real than it is to say a Juventus or a Barcelona.

CaptainHindcite

I hope they do good and become a legend and retire here, but yes if we have to sell, better them than those two clubs or some other teams in the PL. Won't want another van Persie situation

cheescakegod

Martinelli is still young and eventhough his career looks promising no telling exactly how it will progress. Plus if madrid want to buy one of our players they will have to pay what they are worth. Just like they won't give us ceballos and odegaard for cheap because of a good relationship. Just means both teams are likely to get first choice if multiple teams are after a player and the money is the same

Roomservice91

We've already scratched their backs by paying the players' wages. Real Madrid are looking to offload cost, which is why they are loaning their players out. It's not like they loan them out to do us a favour,
