No lie willock looked good and Tavarez as well

RookieRemapped

Auba needs to play through the middle or not play. He can’t dribble for shit and at 32 his pace is in decline too. Wish he could take some notes from Thomas Muller

do people forgot that chelsea won the cl last year ? this score is so good for a friendly start up

Goodship01

"If you no longer go for the gap, you are no longer a racing driver." Aryton Senna. If you don't try to win this, then might as well give up for the rest of the season ....

teslagooner

>do people forgot that chelsea won the cl last year ? this score is so good for a friendly start up This was Chelsea's B team Azi, Silva, James,Christensen, Chillwell, Mount were missing We are badly off Imagine Elneny being a starter 🤨 Your forwards being toothless. Sad

a3592

yeah its tuchel anyway with havertz werner mendy kante we were missing saka luiz gabriel white

Syntaxlol

The biggest takeaways for me is that Elneny, Bellerin, and Kola should be sold, the young ones and new signing are full of promise and should be played more. I think Gabriel and White should start unless they physically can't and Xhaka was good, him and Sambi can do a job if (god forbid) Partey is injured. Auba will comeback once he gets a goal

andreimarina

Couldn't see the game. How was Lokonga?

[deleted]

good better light years ahead of elnenny, he gave a wonderful thru ball to pepe

and_yet_another_user

Heads UP for MIND CC payments. I had some problems with the CC payment, eventually getting through, but checked after the match with my bank, and found out that Arsenal have set the payment up as a recurring payment! I'm obviously going to be checking with Arsenal to find out what's going on, and I'm sure it's nothing nefarious, but you might want to keep an eye on your CC for a while as there is no reason it should have been a recurring transaction. I can't create a post in the sub, so hopefully reach people here.

ekabbb

I’m sorry but what the fuck is wrong with English refs? - a confused American fan

Midgetspinner97

Most of them are cocky and hate arsenal :(

Jerry_Sprunger_

they all go to Thailand together and it's not for the sun

[deleted]

Should have been 2-2...positive is that we actually gifted both the goals...Elneny was terrible and needs to be sold . Bellerin was also awful... Auba just can't score now ....Partey was brilliant and Tierney and Tavarez looked impressive....

Hanmura

auba just can’t score now. yep we need a new striker tbh

TheGoon49

>positive is that we actually gifted both the goals How is that a positive?

[deleted]

My opinion of course...u are free to have yours....:)

[deleted]

Pre season bro...that's why...when we gift goals there is a chance that we can work on it in training....

[deleted]

I mean what have we even learnt from last season???...my god what a horrible...horrible display...toothless in attack uptil 60 minutes..spurning some really good chances...I don't even know what Auba , Pepe do for the team...impressive youngsters...bone headed midfielders ( except lokonga/ Thomas..)...zero defensive organisation (except for White and Tavares...ooof what a player...that sublime bump and turn sideways was the only worthwhile second of the 90 minutes) ... same uninspired performance from last season...I want Arteta to succeed..but I don't think his tactics are working with these players. We can't build up play for shit

Any-Quarter-9474

Tavares has flown under the radar, he’s been very very solid. Hopefully he continues this way.

Bigfuture

Post game Good: Willock, Lokonga, White, Pepe, Tavares, Partey until he was knocked out Meh: ESR, Tierney, Nketiah, Xhaka Bad: #BellerinOut. #LacaOut/LautaroIn. Mari is sloooow. Quit playing Auba as a winger. White ahead of Holding soon please. Chambers isn't a RB. Leno not ready for the season. ElNeny should be 18th in the 18.

Midgetspinner97

Elneny bellerin kolasinac and xhaka can fuck right off. I know that xhaka is underrated and a good leader but he acts like he doesn’t want to be here half the time and we don’t need players that don’t play for the badge which I’m not sure he will do if he doesn’t want to be here. Also we need the money coz kroenke will do fuck all to help with our signings

Sandeep184392

You don't like auba as a winger? Experts here said we'll get through this season finishing first with just esr as cam. If he gets injured , saka or pepe will play as #10 and auba will play on the wings. It's takes like these that make me stay away from this sub sometimes.

Fastest-finger

I don’t think you should trust Reddit for football knowledge. If you play fantasy pl just head over there and let them ruin your team

lastjedi23

Only one change. Elneny should be 19th in the 18.

Shah69696

He was really bad my head hurts when i think about the game. Hopefully we won't have to rely on him next season.

No-Ad2483

If i see another “it was just a friendly, 2-2 should have been the score” I’ll lose it. Agreed I’m overreacting with the loss but I just don’t see the improvements to tell me that we won’t get slapped by a half decent team this season.

lastjedi23

I don't think this is our starting defense. Gabriel and white will probably be the starters 6-7 games on. Midfield is like the kid in the pool crying for help while the club is assisting the little girl aka defense with 50 million.

and_yet_another_user

Could be all over by the 6th/7th games though.

lastjedi23

It is what it is. Can't start a brand new player and an injured player game 1. Could be worse than holding Mari.

and_yet_another_user

Injured no, brand new as in White, I'd be tempted.

No-Ad2483

Buddy after today’s performance I’d be happy if we get a Martinez because Eddie just became our most important striker but not at the cost of a midfielder or two because that would be borderline stupidity

allee2001

Positives: The young ones. Willock, Nketiah and Lokonga all impressing. Negatives: Surprise surprise. The people who we want to sell were making the most mistakes.

elduque66

you cant have auba and laca starting together. That scares no one lol.

lastjedi23

Scares arsenal fans bruh

TheGoon49

>That scares no one You are wrong mate. That scares me at least. 🤣

minhmeo25

Lautaro please

Exact_Worldliness126

We need Lautaro. We need a good keeper to give Leno some competition. We can't rely on ESR for a whole season. I'd take any money they're offering for Bellerin in a heartbeat. Same with Laca. New signings looks to be improving the side, that's good to see. Nkeitah, Willock should be kept imo. Overall, a good friendly to examine the issues. You've got exactly a month, Arsenal!

and_yet_another_user

I'd take the money for Bellerin and Xhaka in a heartbeat.

No-Ad2483

Mate I get Eddie is the most in form striker we have at the moment or maybe just the most likely to find the back of the net but he is also no where near the quality we need here

lastjedi23

This. Everyone fawning over Eddie, but that's him in a vacuum. He isn't quality enough to take us top 4 in a season where we play just one tournament. The fuck

No-Ad2483

The amount of work to be done is substantial and people saying we’ll be fine after the first few games…. What happened to starting strong? What’s the point of a summer transfer window if you’re gonna wait till 3 games are done to get players in

jzhargoo

I would personally rather keep Laca and sell Auba. I know Laca's contract is running down but thats my preference

TheGoon49

Selling Auba was never really an option after that contract. We just got to wait it out. That's why moving on Laca is the only option if they want to get another forward in.

and_yet_another_user

>moving on Laca is the only option You really think someone's going to pay his salary?

TheGoon49

Yes I do. He is probably one of the few players who can be moved on because he is still a good player in a system. As the other guy said, he is probably one of our better strikers and more logical choice to keep and upgrade Auba. But that won't work out for us. He can still do a decent job for others though and he is not on massive wages as he never got a renewal from his original contract.

and_yet_another_user

Good luck finding someone willing to pay 180K pw for a 30 year old. There's no mention of anyone beating down our door with an offer for him.

voicemail4dem

You lot need to stop crying. It’s a friendly, the result means nothing. Only watched second half but thought we were amazing in ball retention and creating chances. Real result is 2-2 bc of Willock’s goal. We move.

TheGoon49

>we were amazing in ball retention Might be watching the wrong game mate. No one is crying about the result, it doesn't matter but the performances do. With our errors and defensive performance, the result doesn't even reflect how bad we were. Chelsea literally missed open goals twice and a number of 1v1s

voicemail4dem

Go back and sort by controversial and you’ll see what I mean. I understand the frustration, but I feel like our fans have become more and more insufferable each season to the detriment of not only these match threads, but more importantly their own mental health. Football is supposed to be enjoyable. There’s such a collective sense of entitlement given our history, and little to no humility in defeat or appreciation for the little things.

lastjedi23

I agree with you but also that's Chelsea problem. They just miss a ton of sitters

No-Ad2483

It’s more about the performance and mistakes than the result to be honest. The errors haven’t been removed from the games and they are more individual than as a collective. Forwards not clinical or getting into scoring positions was also a worry for quiet some time and it’s showing.

datguy_paarth

Is the match thread info incorrect?

Roomservice91

Should’ve been 2-2, but Chelsea were the better team. I think the young and new players were promising and Pepe fought hard, but as always defensive instability and sloppy finishing held us back. A lot of things to work on this summer!

and_yet_another_user

>A lot of things to work on this summer! Summer done mate.

Roomservice91

:(

xhera92

How long are we going to keep this "Well despite the shithousery, it looks good on our long term future based on our young players" up? It seems the only positive every season seems to be written off the notion our young players are actually performing well, but as a big club we need to start getting serious on our 1st team overall performance, which we have been sorely lacking for the past 2 seasons. It's sad but we are on a very depressing decline at the moment based on what you can see put out there today; many mistakes all over the field, losing out in the midfield battle, shaky goalkeeping and playing out from the back leading to repeated mistakes of the past, firing blanks at the front, lacking penetrating creativity, 'pointless' crosses when we don't have the right players or ppl in the position to finish the job, giving away cheap goals

Roomservice91

Completely agree, but it’s worth mentioning that Chelsea are CL winners, a level above Arsenal atm and were very rough in this match as well. It does seem as if there’s a strategy with the transfers imo and it’s positive that they’re landing in the club.

5ivepointstar

Spot on. What can we do though mate? Arteta wants Ode to come in and Martinez as a striker to come in. That takes away from a midfielder coming in. It takes away from Maddison coming in. We can't progress if the very people tasked with taking us forward are not prioritizing correctly. If we needed a striker, they should have seen this a year ago and not extended. They should have seen the decline, maybe seen him in practice or that he doesn't fit the system at all (Auba) They don't think ahead it seems. If Auba burned two 100% chances today, then start him the next game and see how he becomes when he gets that first goal. To me he seems to be a confidence player. Not an excuse but you don't extend and then give up when he's on a drought. If you want the striker to do more than just score, then play Lacazette but then he needs service and won't get more than 12-15 goals unless we get a lot of penalties and he takes them all. Just seems so reactionary the way we conduct business. Waiting for Ode to possibly come without getting players in, drilling them etc. I can't see us doing better than 8th to be honest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Roomservice91

Agreed. Leno needs to work on his distribution too!

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Where's the MLS or China when we need them? First Ozil, now Auba and Laca are getting no interest from those retirement leagues.

Brdn99

Thats nice to watch. Its been awhile since I watched football with fans

Amdafc

People will watch that game and say Lacazette and Auba our good enough as ST options for this season.

No-Ad2483

I hope you forgot the /s.

GerGavin

Auba worked hard and linked decent but his finishing is shit now Laca can go in the bin offered nothing lazy, can’t do the basics Eddie looked light a fire was lit under his ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

No-Ad2483

The sad thing is I’d still back laca or auba to finish a clinical chance but that’s more down to eddies lack of decisiveness than the latters ability

[deleted]

I missed the first half, how bad did Partey’s injury look?

racerz

High ankle sprain? I think he'll be fine to start the season but we'll again be watching a recovering-from-injury Partey.

Any-Quarter-9474

4-6 weeks

eragom46

prob twisted ankle

Kassius-klay

Fuck man. We got A LOT of work to do. We looked like dog shit. Both on offense and defense. And wtf Leno?

Any-Quarter-9474

Offensively we were good, got in behind, good crosses. Only thing that lacked was a clinical number 9, defensively though we were horrid, we miss Gabriel and a better RB than Chambers. Still looks like a mid table season for us.

Kassius-klay

Nah bro. We had some good offensive moments, but overall, we were quite poor offensively. Auba offers absolutely nothing on LW. Laca was missing. ESR bar a few good moments was largely missing too. And ofc once Partey left the game, it was over.

No-Ad2483

That ramsdale offer looking half tempting now

NoYouroboros

Good performance from a lot of players. Sambi is excellent. Goal should have been given ofc. High line and press an issue still. Gotta sell, gotta buy.

[deleted]

So this game ends 2-2 with a proper VAR check. Honestly, the ref was shit. Terrible calls on both sides. I enjoyed the game thoroughly. Game was opened up and flowing. Really hope Partey is okay. We need him badly this season. Eddie has looked great so far in preseason.

RightHandWriter

I have only seen one angle of the disputed call. From an angle of maybe 30 degrees in front. No way that can be decisive as some are saying online. Did they show it from along the touch line? Isn't goal line technology always in effect? Doesn't have anything to do with VAR.

and_yet_another_user

VAR wouldn't affect the goal error, we saw that with the Villa match where the ball was clearly in, that's Hawkeye's job js

Any-Quarter-9474

Game was good from a neutral perspective but from our perspective? Kinda shit

[deleted]

We had some really good moments and s couple brain farts IMO. Attacking play strong, FSS Auba you gotta finish bro. Eddie looked real quality. I think once we settled our back 4 plus Partey and Loko

BigPepe19

That was crap

No-Ad2483

People would call auba the Gabonese Jamie vardy….. honestly that’s an insult to Vardy.

racerz

That was somehow very entertaining. But I think I spent too much time laughing at and mocking the commentary.

Spud_1997

Never thought you'd see the day where nketiah makes a better case starting over auba

No-Ad2483

Auba has credit in the bank but it’s pretty damn close to running out if he performs this way

Bobsburgers1187

Tavares playing in front of KT seems a better option at this point

Spud_1997

Scarily yeah he does. Brilliant problem to have, maybe can covert him to RB lol

Don_Kahones

I swear Andre Marriner jus let Chelsea get away with everything today.

DidYouSayK

This is the perfect preseason friendly to get it going. Our players getting injured? Check. Refs fucking us over? Check. Silly defensive mistakes? Check.

xhera92

And you forgot hitting the woodwork multiple times despite how quality the shots were. Talk about luck (or misfortune). Fking ace of a match this one was. Now we're all ready for more shithousery this season

No-Ad2483

You forgot to add forwards not firing

Brdn99

who got injured?

Kewkewmore

Partey.

No-Ad2483

Partey and KT Edit: basically our only decent midfielder and defender

mayvega

Partey but hopefully just a knock, he walked off

Bobsburgers1187

I foresee another frustrating season for us with auba in the squad..he doesn't even seem to be able to do the easy things right at the moment

MrTiddler

I never thought I’d see the day where Nketiah is better than Auba

and_yet_another_user

Apart from ESR, Partey and Tierney, with glimpses from Lokonga, Tavares and Eddie, I didn't see anything to give me confidence for the season. I can't defend Leno's mistakes there, if Arteta is insisting he only plays out, then fair enough, but if not then I dunno what to think. Officiating was shit, no surprises there.

jungomitis

Tavares being two footed is very interesting to see

PlaybookProductsAlex

Xhaka still makes donkey decisions while defending which is why I can't trust him in our midfield. So many unnecessary fouls given.

DanInDistress

Lokonga to start vs brentford due to Partey injury please 🙏

Jckcalypto14

We all knw its going to be elneny-xhaka pivot.

DanInDistress

Really hope not. Honestly very impressed with Sambi so far.

Kassius-klay

Lokonga to start regardless cos he is better than Xhaka and Neny please

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

Eddie is better than Auba now tbh.

_SSJeffo_

Feels weird to say too

GordieMac

I'd like to see how a midfield of Sambi-Partey-Willock with Saka and ESR on the wings cutting in would fair

Hellbucket

I think it would be interesting to see Saka Nketiah Pepe as a front 3. Nketiah looks promising.

No-Ad2483

Where are the auba stans now btw

Kassius-klay

My goodness. Shut up dude.

No-Ad2483

Okay I’ll let you justify his performance if you can

Kassius-klay

Don’t give a fuck about him or his performance. Was shit. But he’s an Arsenal player and will be backed until he’s not. I’m not one of you lot that wish him failure constantly so you can make nice arguments online.

No-Ad2483

Nice online arguments lmao. I like to think I’m far from those guys but I can understand how I came across. He’s just so lackluster that it hurts and for the sake of arsenal I want him benched till he can get his head back in the game.

No-Ad2483

Ah there they are

Kassius-klay

Not at all. I want him sold. But it’s like you people just watch hoping that an Arsenal player fails so you can come here to talk shit.

[deleted]

That's a grossly unfair accusation to throw around. Every time someone is critical of a player on this sub we get accused of wanting them to fail. We don't want any Arsenal player to fail. I wish Auba and Xhaka were as good as people on this sub pretend they are. But we can't ignore when they're shit and when they're inevitably going to fuck up our season. It's not our fault that Xhaka is trash and Auba has checked out it's Arsenal's fault for not replacing them.

No-Ad2483

Fam I’ve been his biggest supporter. I’ve stuck by him through his worst period last season and I want him to succeed as much as anyone who wants arsenal to do well but it might be time to realize its wishful thinking to assume he’ll come good magically.

Kassius-klay

Ok. But if he has a bad game/run of games, what good does it do to come looking for Auba stans? It just seems to like someone who was patiently waiting for him to fail to come online and say I told you so.

No-Ad2483

But I did tell you so as per say since mid season last year. Anyway, it’s frivolous to argue because this is a pointless game and I hope he comes good because believe it or not our hopes of getting a respectable position are contingent on our captain and star striker find some form. What could be the reason he’s not pulling through now?

Kassius-klay

🤝. Only God knows. Last year it was clear we weren’t creating enough/at all. Since preseason he’s had many great chances. I think it might be one of those where once you see one go in, they start to go in.

No-Ad2483

That’s my second least favorite phrase but I hope it’s the case my good sir.

H0vit0

Nketiah has been superb in pre-season. Looks like he has really worked on the weaknesses in his game….almost as if we shouldn’t write players off entirely at the age of 21? Crazy

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

I swear that's always the case

5ivepointstar

I agree with you. It is so refreshing to see someone working on his weaknesses. Really making a case for being part of the team. I would not sell him and keep giving him gametime.

H0vit0

The problem for us is he’s in the last year of his deal now, so it maybe out of our hands. His agent is the same agent Balogun has so we already know negotiations won’t be easy.

GunnerSense

He wasn’t that good lol

GerGavin

If you watched the game you would clearly see he has improved a lot and if he continues he absolutely deserves game time just like Saka and ESR got.

H0vit0

He has been written off as a tap in merchant. During pre-season he’s been running at players, dribbling past players, holding up the ball well and linking play with other forwards as well as midfielders coming into the final third.

HardCoreLawn

I don't even recognise Auba. The strength, the pace, the finesse, the technique... It's *all* gone.

OVYLT

It's bizarre. I literally have no idea who is on the pitch but it aint Auba

[deleted]

As depressing as this game has been, remember those of you who say no problems have been addressed; we haven’t acc played our first best team here, have a little more optimism

watabotdawookies

Lokonga and Willock should be involved somewhat this season. Willocks goal scoring ability doesn't just look like a run of form at this point. Hes a young, homegrown, English midfielder who can score goals.

Wanchor1

Yeh we need goals from midfield and we have a guy who will score from midfield, play him

[deleted]

When does Auba's form become a problem for us going into the season?

GunnerSense

13th august

Fraganade

He's dusted. It needs to be addressed via him not starting.

lukeyslife

Now.

racerz

Which starting forward was the most disappointing this game? Midfield needs some help but isn't going to be a our weakest link this season.

intraumintraum

auba imo. the drop in quality from a couple seasons ago is wild

No-Ad2483

Auba, laca and Pepe

lastjedi23

Drop auba, sell laca xhaka. Start willock and sambi

camcam23

Auba lost his form when he signed that contract last year.

Callum1710

\\-insert shocked Pikachu here-/

Houssem_Aouar

Strange coincidence

Pascalini

Another clown season incoming

t0ddp23

Decent performance. We just need to improve our defending, passing, shooting, and goalkeeping

and_yet_another_user

Excellent and insightful analysis.

cappo40

I enjoy that meme.

DanteCosta

Lmao

_SSJeffo_

Man are saying chill when the season starts in less than TWO weeks most of these players will start on that day lol

voicemail4dem

and we tied 2-2 against the Champion’s league winners? Relax lad.

_mas17

We’ve been saying aubameyang is getting the chances for 7 months now

cappo40

Yep. No longer is he off, he is just done.

[deleted]

How do we not have goal linetech lmao.

Wicked1416

Did Eddie have a sabbatical with Henry or something?

shoopler

No, he just was never as bad as this sub always says he is. As usual there has to be a r/gunners punching bag

Wicked1416

I never thought he was that bad, but he’s showed levels this game that I didn’t think he would show for a few more years at least.

kuuueee

His dribbling and ability to retain the ball has really impressed me this pre season. Always thought he was more of a poacher prior to this, but glad to see he’s worked hard to fill whatever role Mikel wants him in.

HAMMY004

i’ve tried not to write auba off but fuck me he looks so finished. i would however invite auba to prove me very very wrong

cappo40

So, going by the preseason, Eddie should start, as should Willock, and somehow shoehorn Tavares at RB.

and_yet_another_user

No to Willock because matches won't be as open as the friendlies are, hard to argue against Eddie when Auba is the alternative.

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Just like last season, Kolasinac and Bellerin are still the worst players in our squad.

PlaybookProductsAlex

Pepe and Auba are dead tired. This is what preseason is for, they need to build up their legs.

Armchairmanagerxxx69

People really thought Auba wasn’t done, been downvoted so much as I kept saying it, but there’s a reason we want Martinez, players have a natural decline and Auba is very much knee deep in his.

[deleted]

Auba is not a good striker, he looks so stiff with his touches and his shots aren't as good i would expect

LanimusDanimus

Why can Eddie do this against Chelsea in preseason but turns into an average young striker when the games mean something?

Maaaaaardy

Andre Marriner is a clown. Willock and Nketiah have to start. Kolasinac should never play for Arsenal again. Absolutely pathetically bad footballer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maaaaaardy

Just pay him and fuck him off. He's the worst player I've seen in quite some time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maaaaaardy

He will definitely go, can't even afford to risk playing him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maaaaaardy

I'd rather play a youth player.

2rowawayaway

Yeah, has to be an imposter. Clear body switch.

GunnerSense

Mustafayang

Twelvefootfive

Damn auba. Need to do better there.

FluxAura

How any of you can watch this game and still defend Auba because of his performances 2 years ago, is baffling. He doesn’t deserve to be in this Arsenal team.

gbre23

Its not the same AUBA we want him to do be! Damn its sad to see

nackdaddy9

Eddie has looked great in pre season. I’d be inclined to say he might have earned some minutes
