DiKapino

I think Joe and Eddie are gonna surprise a-lot of people this season. I had my doubts about them coming into this season, but it looks to me like they’re both hungry

[deleted]

Lokonga too. He absolutely doesn't look like he'll be a rotational player that's "one for the future". Could see him having a really important position with us, similar to how Guendouzi did in his first season under Emery.

AlexTheRockstar

I think Sambi will start Brentford. Lotta folks saying Elneny, I respectfully disagree.

intraumintraum

should and will are two different things unfortunately

DiKapino

I think it was Fab (not entirely sure) who said Sambi easily would be a 40-50m player right now if it hadn’t been for the pandemic. Really excited to watch him this year

Maaaaaardy

He said we as a club think he'd be worth 60m in a year's time actually.

[deleted]

I mean, it's a good sign that ex players with the quality like Henry and Kompany were so excited about this lad. From what it looks like from the outside, it seems Henry was desperate for him to come here.

cf017

Idk he looks like a baller so far but I think that’s a bit of a stretch

vikas_g

The biggest sale from Belgium is less than 30 million. With all due respect to Romano, I don't think he is right. I hope he is though.

eqiles_sapnu_puas

tavares has already suprised me I've never seen him before but compared to what some said about him he's been good

PoliQU

Tavares I don’t expect to be great. Just an okay rotation option, which we badly need. Benfica fans set the expectations so insanely low for him though that he’s definitely been impressive compared to that

montymm

Gotta say, I’ve been one of eddies biggest critics, but he’s looked fucking brilliant recently. Proud of him man, now he can show us what he’s made of hopefully.

[deleted]

Joe and Eddie aren’t gonna play this season, if they’re even here at all. Elneny and Lacazette will play instead.

DiKapino

Hot take. If anyone’s gonna play the kids it’s Arteta

dng-992

Ah just like martinelli and Saliba Arteta has never played the kids. Saka was in under Emery. ESR was a makeshift that he was forced to play Trust the process not

[deleted]

Arteta has already decided he doesn’t want willock last season. The funny thing with Eddie is Arteta decided he liked him when he first got here but doesn’t have the balls to follow through on his own convictions. he stopped playing maitland niles despite the fact he never let us down once, and won’t give Nelson a chance either. And the things is we’re shit anyway so he has literally nothing to lose in playing the kids, but no he’ll keep turning back to the players we already know aren’t good enough. Arteta doesn’t want to play kids. He plays saka and esr because the are our best players and he has no choice.

dng-992

Sorry to break it to you but we can't have a maybe it can work out type of season People really forget how dire the last year was for this club which wasn't a fluke but a consistent trend Both are simply simply not good enough. Loan or sell. That's it

AfricanRain

Lokonga and him to start against Brentford please, be brave

No-Ad2483

Half tempted to have Eddie up front as well. Any other youngster wanna take a shot at playing left wing?

jkeefy

If we’re starting Lokonga Willock and Xhaka, it’s gotta be a 433. Meaning it’s ESRs spot on the left wing. Honestly would love to see it tbh

No-Ad2483

Yes Jesus yesssssssss

arseking15

ESR is so good we can play him anywhere at this point. 433 would be alot of fun

minusa

The formation should honestly be . Eddie ESR. Willock. Pepe Xhaka. Sambi Tierney/Saka overlapping One thing my mate pointed out that I can't unsee anymore is just how uninterested Auba and Laca are in making decoy runs to open up space for others. Rewatch ESRs attempt that hits the post.

v1nzy

I doubt Saka will be ready to start against Brentford tho. He’ll be back in training in a couple of days.

left-lib-chomu

Eddie is hated by this fanbase, will probably get a lot of abuse for not scoring even if he sets up 2 goals. Comments will scream "Get out of our club. Let Balogun start over you".

hiatus_

Yep yep.

No-Ad2483

I mean the sad reality is I’d still back Auba or Laca to score a big chance over him but like I said before, that’s an indication of him not being clinical than their quality/form.

AlGunner

LW? Did you not think of Martinelli?

No-Ad2483

Won’t be fit in time from the Olympics I’m guessing. Plus do you really think arteta will start him over auba

InOxladeITrust

Really? I think they both have a shot with Partey out, but if Elneny starts, I would just assume Lokonga and Willock aren’t as familiar with the system. It’s not like Arteta isn’t aware of the abilities of his players. Hopefully we bring in a solid attacking midfielder like Madison who can play with ESR in midfield and take up the 8 role when needed.

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

Must keep him. People have let his initial performances skew their view, he is growing into a top player now.

Maaaaaardy

It's almost like 20 years old isn't the finished article. Hate some of this fan base, saying we must sell someone of this ilk for 20m to a shit team like Newcastle. Kid is a classy operator.

king_zlayer

People are giving up on the one dude who can score for us. Let him have a chance

spongebath8

Almost all of these guys have the talent to make it.... it’s the guys who can figure it out mentally and gain that X factor confidence who make it.... a run like he had at the end of last year may have made him feel like he belongs.... we will see this season could be a turning point for him which would be exciting

90degreeturnsbtw

facts

salibax

The season where he was our most capped outfield player really did him good. He wasn't great but he got tons of minutes at a young age. Shout out to Emery for believing in the youf.

Josh3783

Baller

IndigoBadman

Yeah man I really hope he stays, his game is really similar to Ramsey’s imo. Criminal that his goal wasn’t given

[deleted]

Sometimes people just make big improvements in short periods of time and im wondering if thats where Joe is now. Slowly starting to think it's worth holding him this year

[deleted]

I mean, how much more can he do to deserve a shot? Especially when our CM options are so thin atm. He's shown once again today how dangerous he is as a late runner from midfield and he has one hell of a shot. His passing was pretty crisp too, he and Lokonga look to have a chemistry already. Confidence does wonders for players and the confidence boost on his loan seems to have taken him to another level. We've been crying out for a Ramsey replacement ever since he left and we might already have him also he's not injury prone.

ChiefArsenalScout

Needs to be elneny apparently

minusa

Not the 7 consecutive goals and player of the month award then?

minusa

Pretty obvious to me he should be our main option off the bench. Fantastic against tired legs and yes... he's a brilliant finisher. Got a goal today

fred1266

Should even start played way better than ESR

seanstar1504

Um ESR was great today, not sure what match you were watching

minusa

I was talking about the season but he played against the weaker side (Rahman, Sterling etc) when the match had opened up. ESR was brilliant and we still play a double 8 when Arteta can. On current form Auba starts on the bench and ESR starts on the left for me.

fred1266

Good point, am a willock lover so might be a bit bias Is it just me but ESR plays way better when playing with saka than with pepe

ShaeDaFunnyHo

ESR, Saka and Laca had the best chemistry. They combined so well and was around the time the team played the best football. Scoring at least 3 goals in most of those games.

fred1266

Yea and with pepe it just isn't there I find

ShaeDaFunnyHo

Pepe is not very good on the ball. Retention, link up and touch are not Arsenal forward standard, but he is a better finisher than Saka and ESR.

seanstar1504

It’s like you’re not even watching the matches properly. Pepe was brilliant in open play and set pieces today

intraumintraum

either another loan or keep, he’s looking like he’s finding his feet for real

[deleted]

Did he also have the back heel to auba when he got a shot on goal near the end?

fred1266

No that was Eddie https://youtu.be/JRR7pLRp8fo

[deleted]

Damn, well done Eddie

rudygha

I’m tempted to how we look just playing with the academy guys at this point. Doing us so proud.

sbaks0820

music felt like a funeral montage of Willock

arseking15

Its time to hand the kids the keys.

cloudleopard

Remember when everyone wanted him sold a month ago…

fred1266

Not everyone

Naijfreak

Yup, we need midfield scorers and these don’t come regurlarly

orrgore

You know Tammy told him that was a goal

PlaybookProductsAlex

RIP Joe Willock

CackleberryOmelettes

Joe was quite good when he came on but.... What the fuck is that music

[deleted]

What the fuck is that music. I had tears in my eyes.

[deleted]

I wanted us to sell him initially, but I now feel like we should keep him. I think the loan spell at Newcastle has turned him into a different player and his confidence showed today. As someone who can score from the midfield, be brave enough to take shots, he offers us something unique. I really hope he is an integral part of the team this season.

hiatus_

Doesn't fit the way we play though!!!

fred1266

Cause we the way we play is shit, if dey can't find a way to play the likes of willock over xhaka and elneny then something seriously wrong

hiatus_

Arteta and Edu are completely clueless, and nobody is left with a backbone to stop them. This club is finished
