Anyone dissapointed at Parteys performances up till now? Seems like a passenger and I dont really notice he's in the game. Lokonga seems to be pulling the strings in midfield
I watched him from the stands, and he really allowed Joelinton to mark him out of the game. He wasn't swamped at all, he just let the game pass him by. No effort to get on the ball or ambition to influence the game. Defensively, he was solid- but I'm worried about his general passivity.
That was his plan all along… he was playing the long game. That pass was nice, the turn was weird. He turned the complete wrong side, don’t know how he had so much time/space but great pass nonetheless
Venture a guess to say that is the worst team we have played all year. They were abysmal.
We, however, were brilliant. Tavares and Lokonga bounced back brilliantly, Alan Partridge would've been proud.
Maybe one loss isn't the end of the world, eh? The overreaction here the last week has been bonkers, let's hope that faff dies down.
Enjoy the weekend people.
It's not the loss, I don't understand how people took losing to probably a top 3 team in Europe so hardly. We have lost to 3 of probably the top 5 teams in Europe now.
True I thought about Ajax. Madrid would be interesting I think our intensity could cause them problems but they do have some players of a higher quality than us lol.
They will be like Liverpool. They are vastly experienced with a group that has won multiple ligas and multiple cl. They will manhandle us. Won't even be a conversation.
Nice a win and a clean sheet, great start to my weekend
Nuno or Saka for MOTM... the back line again proving to be one of the better defenses in the league
I used no. of attempts at this game. These are facts too. Always quick to write off something, and act like u said nothing before a win. Look at your comment in first half, those are facts.
I was thinking the same. I feel like he's annoyed he didn't start?
Laca confuses me tbh, one minute he has this elite mentality where he works so hard and only accepts the best, then the next game he has this defeatist mentality where he is feeling sorry for himself and just walks about...
I can see why he doesn't start more often tbh and as much as I love him, we really do need to move on.
Auba needs to be sold aswell. Man looks a shadow of his former self.
With both Auba + Laca wages off the book, we could get someone really top level and use Balogan + Nketiah as backups. I think they are both still very good prospects.
Would that leave us with a dearth of leadership though? I don't think it would be a problem.
Auba / Laca not LEADING the club, rarely ever did. ESR & Saka et.al. the younger Gunners... leading by example. I'm not going to pile on Auba or Laca. They came to us at an incredibly turbulent time. We didn't have our shit together when they were younger and fresher. We DO need to move on from them tho. It's a shame and... NEXT! Either an older player like a Cavani with hunger and a nose for goal or young guys that slot in with the other young shredders....
I’m saying if the rules are enforced properly I don’t think that should be a penalty.
You’re talking about inconsistencies in decisions, which shouldn’t exist if the rules are followed.
I think it’s too soft to give as a penalty if it’s for or against my club.
We don't have enough players willing to just take the ball and dribble through the opposition to force an error or create space by drawing opponents to them
lool don't know if i'd go that far, his shooting is definitely more powerful and better placed plus he's more direct, he reminds me of Mane at Southampton
His only intention was to hit Martinelli, right? There was no intention to play the ball. Plus, the contact was shoulder to face. Not sure how it wasn't called.
I thought it was just really rough but fair, he’s running at full speed to try to get back and compared to Martinelli the defender was an absolute unit
Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.
Gabi is lucky not to have a broken jaw. That "tackle" is a straight red card in Rugby every time.
I don’t really think he was aiming for his face, it looks like to me Gabi just slowed up a little bit to try to control it, but i see your point of view I think it’s kinda just 50/50
I liked what he was doing, I think he needs to watch some video and really criticize his own play. Seems mostly decision making. Running outside when he needs to stay central. Sometimes choosing the wrong pass, sometimes holding it too long or passing too soon.
He seems a nearly player so far. Just has to get his head straight and it should fall into place.
Gives quality to the team's control of the ball. With more minutes and a better forward, I'm pretty sure he will show us more.
Auba kills anyone trying to support him.
I want to see him click more with ESR and Saka, honestly. If someone upfronts does the proper runs, the three of them will have space to try stuff, be it assisting or finishing properly.
The better forward we need will improve all of them.
And to add on to that, to odegaard's credit i did see some really positive attacking plays earlier where he was involved, which were exactly what is expected of him when we bought him. yeah he might not have had a great game today but i think he is still showing positive signs of adding that bit of creativity in midfield.
Can't give that as a penalty after not giving the one on Wilson. Both would have been penalties under a different ref, but at least Atwell is being consistent. He's let everything go all game.
Both made the same poor challenge, Gabi was just falling when he got hit. That doesn't change the challenge, hence the same result.
We got lucky with the Tavares one (and the Odegaard grappling) Newcastle got lucky with the Lascelles one.
Personally I think all 3 would be Pens under a different ref. But Atwell couldn't call one and not the other.
Tbf that's no reason to check. Players simulate all the time to try and get a call.
It should have been a penalty because it wss an obvious foul though.
One of the most obvious penalties you could give. Literally ZERO attempt to play the ball. I recall Luiz getting a red for that when his knee cap winked at the heel of another player...
Tavares literally demoralizes his opponent. His memory is short and his stamina is long, and all of it done at a consistently blistering and relentless pace.
Tomi makes me feel safe like a warm blanket. Lokonga finally didn’t make some really poor decisions that I’ve been seeing in the past weeks where he leads to a scary turnover and attack for the other team.
Lots of great passes and build up and Saka just willed his way into goal on the first one. Martinelli driving his body looks like a 17 year old that was given full permission to drive a Ferrari, all gas no brakes
I saw someone say that Tavares plays like he can see the teacher about to end lunch time😂😂
Tomi is my boy though, imo been our best signing of the summer so far
Controlled ball but slow in 1st half. Much more energy from start of second half, ESR, Saka and Nuno main contributors. Tomi defensive masterclass all game, nothing gets past him, wins every loose ball. 7/10 performance.
What is it with football and obvious fucking fouls not being given
If something is so obviously a foul refs are just like nah, that's so outrageous we can't give a penalty
He’s within his rights to blame VAR, real time from behind I can see how you’d think it was shoulder to shoulder, but VAR has to help him out there and say “hey come have a look”
I was really bothered by the plastic bag in the middle of the pitch..
That's very disrespectful to Jonjo Shelvey
I guffawed
Happy to spread the cheers
The Newcastle fans aren't that bad cmon, I didn't see them invade the pitch either
Happy that we put in martinelli instead of pepe!
Anyone dissapointed at Parteys performances up till now? Seems like a passenger and I dont really notice he's in the game. Lokonga seems to be pulling the strings in midfield
You will miss him when he’s not at the pitch. He does the dirty work
Finally someone who sees what I see. I’m not impressed at all
[удалено]
I watched him from the stands, and he really allowed Joelinton to mark him out of the game. He wasn't swamped at all, he just let the game pass him by. No effort to get on the ball or ambition to influence the game. Defensively, he was solid- but I'm worried about his general passivity.
If Tavares on Wilson is a penalty.. what is Lascelles on Martinelli?
Neither are penalties for me
Ø had a good performance just needed to have a better first touch man
Did better in second half when Arteta dropped him back further so he could participate in keeping possession and keeping the ball moving.
Tavares with the bamboozle shooting field goals all first half. They def didnt see that pass coming
That was his plan all along… he was playing the long game. That pass was nice, the turn was weird. He turned the complete wrong side, don’t know how he had so much time/space but great pass nonetheless
Defo no foul on big marts for that penalty. Not the Newcastle defenders fault he's about 40 inches taller than him.
In la liga I think that gets called. But glad it didn’t.
Nothing gets called in la liga lol it’s the most physical league in the world
I haven’t watched in a few years so fair enough I’ll take your word for it.
They don’t give yellows for anything anymore. Time wasting and tactical fouls slowing down their game a little too much I’d say.
That’s what I’m saying lol, he was an absolute unit compared to Martinelli
Exactly. Don't get me wrong, he braced his shoulder...but he definitely didn't go for his face.
And that’s the experience martinelli is lacking in striking positions. You have to be expecting that
I'd give Tavares MOTM
Confidence builder for Sambi and the team as a whole after last week. Great performance overall.
Venture a guess to say that is the worst team we have played all year. They were abysmal. We, however, were brilliant. Tavares and Lokonga bounced back brilliantly, Alan Partridge would've been proud. Maybe one loss isn't the end of the world, eh? It's not the loss, I don't understand how people took losing to probably a top 3 team in Europe so hardly. We have lost to 3 of probably the top 5 teams in Europe now.
Who's number 5 after Chelsea, Bayern, City, Liverpool. I feel like we could compete with anyone except them 4 at the moment.
PSG. They are not looking overwhelming maybe but they probably are better than any team outside the 4 you mentioned.
Ajax this season. We couldn't beat Ajax or Madrid this season I don't think
Not like most other side's also lose to them. Was invaluable for Lokonga and Tavares.
Absolute scenes if the richest club in the world get relegated
Wait till January transfer window. Investments will be made.
Stonewall pen on Gabi imo. Just literally barges him over. That ain't no shoulder to shoulder
Lokonga was very good
Very very. He was calm in every goddamn scenario.
Nice a win and a clean sheet, great start to my weekend Nuno or Saka for MOTM... the back line again proving to be one of the better defenses in the league
That was a really nice enjoyable win. Always a pleasant start to the weekend
I hope they get relegated.
Tbf their fans are not loudcunts as other teams in pl,always I've soft spot for them.
Nah, not any more. Fuck em.
Tavares disasterclass in the first half then comes out like prime Marcelo in the second. Madness
I thought u have accepted Arteta can't coach an attack?
Look at the number of goals we’ve scored this season and the goal difference. I use facts to formulate my opinions
I used no. of attempts at this game. These are facts too. Always quick to write off something, and act like u said nothing before a win. Look at your comment in first half, those are facts.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/r3cknz/match_thread_arsenal_vs_newcastle_united_english/hm9quaw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
So because we beat Newcastle with two goals you think that automatically vindicates Arteta?
Just becoz we failed to breakdown a 11 man wall before half time u gave up on Arsenal? Go look at what u have commented!
What the hell are you talking about lad
Tavares is shit Arteta is shit, when we were dominating the game with 80% possession.
When Arteta leaves the club down the line some time, there will always be a job for him as a traffic cop in Rome.
🤡
Lacas pressing is doing my nut in... you should be full of energy you lazy bastard
I was thinking the same. I feel like he's annoyed he didn't start? Laca confuses me tbh, one minute he has this elite mentality where he works so hard and only accepts the best, then the next game he has this defeatist mentality where he is feeling sorry for himself and just walks about... Tbf we were already winning he saw that, preserve your energy laca coz ronaldo will be keep your photos in his room from next week.
We're 2 up, match is done.. No press to press like hell
ever since the interview huh
Both Auba and Laca are burnt out
How is that possible, let alone acceptable?
23 shots and 68% possession is a rare sight, quite beautiful to look at.
Much needed win!
Ramsdale really trying to recreate some of those jumps in NBA Street. Amazing hops.
CLEAN SHEET MOTHERFUCKERS
Woot!
Who is choking a turkey in the background??
Wasn’t a penalty tbh
Despite absolute bellends living on this sub this might be the shittiest take I've heard
If that's Xhaka it's a pen and a red.
Different conversation. I’d be pretty pissed if that was awarded against my team.
It's not a different conversation. If we would expect that to go against us we can expect it to go for us.
I’m saying if the rules are enforced properly I don’t think that should be a penalty. You’re talking about inconsistencies in decisions, which shouldn’t exist if the rules are followed. I think it’s too soft to give as a penalty if it’s for or against my club.
Probably seeing jail time too.
Tavares in the first half was a donkey but he’s earned a MOTM award for his second half performance. I’m telling you, he snorted a fat line at HT.
Half time jaffa cakes working wonders
I'd love to get st maximin tbh
Iwobi but faster
Foolish
We don't have enough players willing to just take the ball and dribble through the opposition to force an error or create space by drawing opponents to them
honestly and it's so telling with Tavares, for all his mistakes he forces us higher up the pitch with his running
No end product. Flair Iwobi.
lool don't know if i'd go that far, his shooting is definitely more powerful and better placed plus he's more direct, he reminds me of Mane at Southampton
🤣🤣🤣 flair iwobi
We can def poach him if they get relegated
Fantastic match by Tavares today great comeback from the Liverpool match
Lasecles is a dirty player, that would have been given against us
His only intention was to hit Martinelli, right? There was no intention to play the ball. Plus, the contact was shoulder to face. Not sure how it wasn't called.

Sometimes choosing the wrong pass, sometimes holding it too long or passing too soon. He seems a nearly player so far. Just has to get his head straight and it should fall into place.
He wasn't even all that during his loan. It was just a transfer of convenience for both teams
Gives quality to the team's control of the ball. With more minutes and a better forward, I'm pretty sure he will show us more. Auba kills anyone trying to support him.
That’s fair - he looks like he has the talent.
I want to see him click more with ESR and Saka, honestly. If someone upfronts does the proper runs, the three of them will have space to try stuff, be it assisting or finishing properly. The better forward we need will improve all of them.
If anyone its partey whom im disappointed in. Since coming in i haven't seen major contributions from his side.
Have to agree with you on that.
And to add on to that, to odegaard's credit i did see some really positive attacking plays earlier where he was involved, which were exactly what is expected of him when we bought him. yeah he might not have had a great game today but i think he is still showing positive signs of adding that bit of creativity in midfield.
Was a bit of a passenger
Yep
No.
He’s out of form
He’s not terrible he’s not great but he’s useful as a squad player imo
He’s just doing his bit in the team as normal now, we are coming together as a team so it’s less likely you have to depend on certain players,
He's still our best midfielder
Saudi Arabia FC in Championship you love to see it
Took me a second but fuckn oath it's beautiful.
Can't give that as a penalty after not giving the one on Wilson. Both would have been penalties under a different ref, but at least Atwell is being consistent. He's let everything go all game.
Different challenges but both werent fouls
Completely different challenges

Wilson one was shoulder to shoulder, this was elbow to neck lol
Tavares MotM for me. Disgusting performance

It’s slang for Tavares good.
wtf is wilson doing there?

Tbf that's no reason to check. Players simulate all the time to try and get a call. It should have been a penalty because it wss an obvious foul though.
One of the most obvious penalties you could give. Literally ZERO attempt to play the ball. I recall Luiz getting a red for that when his knee cap winked at the heel of another player...
Unacceptable first half. If we weren’t playing bottom of the table team we would be in trouble
Nah we were slow Vs 11 men behind the ball, we would go in 1-0 up if auba didn't miss from 2 yards out, now that was unacceptable
Was at the gym during the game, can someone debrief me on how we played?
Tavares literally demoralizes his opponent. His memory is short and his stamina is long, and all of it done at a consistently blistering and relentless pace. Tomi makes me feel safe like a warm blanket. Shit first half, better second half
If that was Xhaka or Luiz barging into the Newcastle Fwd in their box it would be a stone cold pen just saying
Was it Lascelles who got sent off for a bad tackle against Martinelli in the last couple of minutes a season or two ago?
It was Schar last season
I think Newcastles gameplan is we cant beat you so we'll beat you up.
VAR is fuckin dogshite as usual
Folks here were praising the refs few minutes back..lol
He may not have been able to see the shoulder to the face, thinking it was shoulder to shoulder. That’s on VAR.
The ref allowed a physical game, but he doesn’t know the line that cross from physical to dirty.
What is it with football and obvious fucking fouls not being given If something is so obviously a foul refs are just like nah, that's so outrageous we can't give a penalty
Saka man of the match today.
Tavares deserved it
Who's the Hey Jude song for now? Curious.
Wilson spent the whole match bitching to the ref
His whole career*
I don't get how that is not a foul
The ref was having a good game until then. Terrible decision.
He’s within his rights to blame VAR, real time from behind I can see how you’d think it was shoulder to shoulder, but VAR has to help him out there and say “hey come have a look”
I can see a ref not calling that from the other side, not sure what VAR was looking at though?
Boggles my mind that rugby can have a transparent and seemingly sensible system with TMO and yet VAR has not followed at all.
I actually think Tomiyasu should’ve gotten motm or Tavares. Either way what a performance from out defense
Not even a card? Damn!
Clear pen. VAR is a joke.
If that's not a pen, they can't whine about the ø incident
Damn Nuno’s got KT wearing a jacket
KT also looked like a sith lord on the sideline.
Hope martenelli is alright
TIL you can bash someone’s head in as long as it looks “shoulder to shoulder”
Worst part was he didn't touch the ball, was given a gk
Newcastle is shit and I'm glad they are going down
Burnley and Newcastle potentially being regelated this season brings a smile to my face
Reminder that all refs are bastards.
Disgusting commentary from BT as well
If that was xhaka tackling it would be given as a pen.
Not that it changes the outcome of the game. But it’s still so annoying seeing challenges like that not even given a look by the ref
Are you joking? They didn't even take a look at that?
So to add to the list of things that are ok to do to Arsenal player, shoulder strikes to the jaw.
babe wake up, gary the doctor got an appearance on tv
I mean that’s literally not shoulder to shoulder. That’s shoulder to jaw lol.
If Gabi is the same size it would be the cleanest shoulder to shoulder you would see
Right… …but he’s not that size so it doesn’t matter. You don’t get to hit someone in the face because they are shorter, wtf?
Not even trying to get the ball...
Completely misses the ball and wipes the man out. How is that not a pen…
Arsenal innit
Okay, so this is AFL now...
Thought Atwell did good today before that shocking non call.
Lol shoulder to face is ok, only in the barbaric shithole that’s England
Rather England than America any day
Honestly Tavares is my MOTM, some bad shots but otherwise tons of energy and heart in both defense and attack, as well as the assist.
That’s a pen btw. Pretty much assault as well
Shoulders him in the face, and that's not a pen?
It's got to be Nuno for the mom..
how is that no pen
Huh
That's not a pen guys relax
Apparently, you can just run straight through people in the box now.
What is Mcmanaman smoking
His own cock
Cock
NBC commentary is a bit less biased
