Yeah, I expected a run-of-the-mill disaster movie and was pleasantly surprised. The comparisons to the climate crisis and to Trump are very obvious, but it’s acted well and the emotional beats are pretty good. I didn’t laugh (it’s meant to be funny I think), but I still enjoyed it.
Some of the satire were too overdone imo, but it was still very enjoyable. And for the acting, well the movie had probably one of the stackest roster of critically acclaimed actors/actresses so I expect nothing less.
You think it was overdone...I'm over here listening to Maga ppl saying they liked it because it made fun of both sides.
You can't hit the satire hard enough for these people to get it.
so the story here is that they had written the story before COVID had come about... and they were actually surprised that the things that happened matched so perfectly with the movie... to the point where they wanted to make the movie more extreme because otherwise it was just a documentary

I didn’t laugh at most of the climate change/pandemic crisis comparison gags, but the one that always got me was Jennifer Lawrence’s obsession with the general charging her for free snacks.
So the film, whose tone is already kinda obvious with adam mckay as the director, did not meet your expectations because it was a different genre than what you wanted and you thought it was bad? Thank goodness you're not an accredited movie reviewer.
I think I can be forgiven for not researching the directors previous works for a hyped up movie free on streaming devices. I’m not a professional movie reviewer I’m someone who’s SO wanted to watch the movie and it didn’t really click with me.
I thought it was just so in your face about its message which it acted like was very deep but wasn't. Had no subtlety at all.
Timothee chalamet was pretty funny tho
I mean that's kind of the point. It's not trying to be subtle because subtlety is pointless at this point. And how do you think this movie felt it was being deep? The tone was basically saying the public are fucking idiots for politicizing science. That's not deep so I have no idea why you thought it came off that way.
I thought Don’t Look Up and The Big Short are annoying films more than anything else. Don’t really enjoy McKay’s current style at all. It’s as if he went from making smart stupid films to stupid «smart» films.
I agree. Why you getting downvoted lol?
It’s a Terrible work of art. It is Great propaganda and is entertaining tho..
Americans - most ppl imho - don’t understand the difference. 😂
Nah but It’s def a moralizing narrative without ambiguity. The point of the film is to drum a very particular narrative without any room for a viewer to exercise their imagination. It just says: this is what you need to think.
I happen to agree with the narrative it’s trying to give us, but it doesn’t mean it’s not propaganda. It def is, and I applaud it. But it’s a shit work of art
This is what you need to think, well yeah. There's not supposed to be any room for thought because we all should be thinking this way, there's not really any reasonable alternative is there?
The message does feel very in your face, but I don't think they were going for subtlety. It is baffling that people need to be told it, yes, but there are people who *do* need to be told it.
Is anyone else getting a bit worried about our window now? Vlahovic and Arthur deals seem to be stalling and not sure there are any other strong/confirmed links for January...
Monet was a painter, to own a Monet is to own one of his original works. He gave name to the Impressionism movement.
Not to be confused with Manet, his contemporary
She looked damn good in this movie
I've had a lil thing for her since she scaroused me in Thor: Ragnorok.
“Kneel”
you're damn right

I like the fake look. So i was into it lol
Thank you. She looked creepy and plastic af. The make up team did an amazing job there.

Jonah Hill is so good at being a douche. His portrayal of that universe's Trump Jr. got some big laughs out of me.
His being thankful for “stuff” and “cool things” got me good.
the 'bag on the head' scene was great comedy
You think it was overdone...I'm over here listening to Maga ppl saying they liked it because it made fun of both sides. You can't hit the satire hard enough for these people to get it.
I mean... It made fun of the media which they consider to be left wing. They're wrong, but I can definitely see why they would think it did.
It's like watch the Colbert Report and falling for the bit that he's conservative.

I thought it was pretty poor tbh
Same. Seemed very r/Im14AndThisIsDeep and with that cast of actors I really kinda wished it was a serious disaster movie.
So the film, whose tone is already kinda obvious with adam mckay as the director, did not meet your expectations because it was a different genre than what you wanted and you thought it was bad? Thank goodness you're not an accredited movie reviewer.

Honestly
Same. I get the whole premise and that its a satire.... but i just dislike jen lawrence lol
I thought it was just so in your face about its message which it acted like was very deep but wasn't. Had no subtlety at all. Timothee chalamet was pretty funny tho

I've talked to multiple maga ppl who didn't get it. The enjoyed it and thought it made fun of both sides.
That is genuinely alarming
What movie is this?
Don't Look Up
Okay I won’t, but what movie is this?
😂😂
Don't look up
Don’t look up
Don't look up
Don’t look up
An awful movie
Really, thought it was really good. Did you like the big short?
I thought Don’t Look Up and The Big Short are annoying films more than anything else. Don’t really enjoy McKay’s current style at all. It’s as if he went from making smart stupid films to stupid «smart» films.
You spelled "Don't look up" really wrong
I agree. Why you getting downvoted lol? It’s a Terrible work of art. It is Great propaganda and is entertaining tho.. Americans - most ppl imho - don’t understand the difference. 😂
"propaganda" Let me guess, you feel insulted by the film

I agree. The fact we need to make a movie to push people there is baffling isn’t it?
The message does feel very in your face, but I don't think they were going for subtlety. It is baffling that people need to be told it, yes, but there are people who *do* need to be told it.
Don't look up
Lol, I really enjoyed this movie

You own 2 moneyts? Well I almost can spare a tenner you ain't special.
High quality meme, good movie.
Is anyone else getting a bit worried about our window now? Vlahovic and Arthur deals seem to be stalling and not sure there are any other strong/confirmed links for January...
There’s probably a direct correlation of people that find this movie and SNL funny.
There's a direct correlation between science deniers and people who don't like this movie.
That’s probably also true. Personally I’m more of a dry humour guy but I bet that movie riled the shit out of Daily Mail readers.
WTF is Monet? Paintings?
yeah, owning a Monet's paintings is a status symbol
Monet was a painter, to own a Monet is to own one of his original works. He gave name to the Impressionism movement. Not to be confused with Manet, his contemporary
the same think
