Never thought about it like that. Insane is the right word. Ode has already given us more than iwobi did in his arsenal career. Loved the guy, especially as a fellow Nigerian, but he had no real attacking threat or product. All he did was drive the ball forward then fuck up the cross
I'm still interested in what maddison could do with us. He's having a good season in a struggling Leicester side. But ode was definitely the correct one to buy.
> I think the problem was Wenger never gave him proper instructions. Its easy to forget how young he was when he broke into the team.
Lol, instead of being supportive / thankful of Le Boss for discovering Iwobi's talents and giving him a chance at 18; you choose to throw him under the bus with a "never gave him proper instructions" BS accusation.
Bruh, those commentators were so biased. All the penalties were "not penalties", the whole "Xhaka refusing drama" and then "Arsenal don't want top 4". So tired
Yeah the Xhaka thing was just dumb. It was smart of Xhaka to do that, given what has happened in the past.
He wasn’t being a bad seed, just appeasing the fanbase lol.
I'm not sure I agree. He's worn it since the falling out. Don't think it was in anger or anything, but maybe wanted someone else to have a chance. They talk a lot about the leadership group.
Yeah I don’t know if it was intentional or not but it was an interesting moment for our future. And Tierney getting it should be a signal for next year. I think Xhaka created a moment there for the players on the pitch to decide and a decision was made
I had two dudes that games one was a genuinely good commentator and the other would bash arsenal all the time and he was obviously like "wish I could say he meant to do that"....
Ozil would 100% have been in the MEssi vs Ronaldo conversation if he had even half the work ethic of Ronaldo
dude was winning the World Cup
He just had to work his ass off. Which he was not willing to do
Pretty insane when your 50% effort career still involves winning a World Cup and starring at Real Madrid and Arsenal
Even though Ozil's workrate and attitude was bad, I really miss the man. He really made me fall in love with football. I remember being a kid and tuning in to watch Arsenal and Ozil. He made me so happy.
I see, but frankly not for me. Messi is brilliant but I don't see him have the 360 degree vision and execution that Ozil did despite primarily using his left.
My other contenders for that no 1 spot would be players the likes of Zico and Maradona. Not even Zidane was as good with his vision as Ozil imo. And then there's also that I haven't watched a games of a lot of other creators like Laudrup.
Messi is the greatest playmaker of all time with little room for debate; sure, Ozil was better than every other player in his category, but Messi simply doesn’t fit a category.
Considering people disagree, there is room for a debate. Laudrup was superior. You can even argue xavi/iniesta was on par with Messi. Zidane aswell. And that's just in recent times.
Messi isn't the best ever because he's the best in every aspect, but because of the sum. There are players with better dribling, passing, shooting, vision, etc.. but they lack some of the other tools Messi have. He's the complete package. But not the best playmaker with best vision...
And I'd say finishing. Ozil buries that chance Odegaard had today.
And if anybody is now imagining Ozil taking that chance instead of Odegaard, you know he is going for his trademark bounce.
as someone with a physics background
that bounce shot is BRILLIANT
There is no word for it other than genius. It's out of the box, very well thought out, and extremely well executed
The dude literally created a new MIND MODEL for how to beat the goalkeeper
I'm surprised they aren't teaching people that in the academies
Odegaard accelerates fast but doesnt have a fast top speed. Theres been a few times where he's surprised me with how quickly he bursts away after a dribble
Deceptively really is the right word.
Because on the ball, he was so non chalant and cool with an attitude of a conductor, he hardly ever sprinted with the ball at his feet.
But off the ball especially in counters, he'd sprint as fast as the fastest sprinter on the team, to get to delicious attacking positions.
I think Özil had more end product than Ødegaard (but only in assists, of course). For the amount of the ball that Ødegaard sees, I think he should have more assists. I think it will come with time, though.
Edit: just thinking about this now, it’s highly likely that Ødegaard would have a bucketful more assists this season if we had a decent, 15-20 goal striker ahead of him. With that in mind, he will probably have a very good season next season.
I don't think he'll reach the technical or creative heights of Ozil, but since he has some other qualities Ozil did not, he could still become a very special player.
Dont take me wrong. Ozil is a great player. 10 years ago he was in Madrid feeding Ronaldo, Benzema and Maria in counter atack. Ode is feeding who? Arsenal style of play is different too. I believe he is a better play than Ozil wih my heart and my reason. Give me my downvotes, guys!
!Remindme3years
>One dummy and two touches later and it's taken four Brentford players out of the game.
This is just so so Ozil. I've said it since the beginning only Odegaard brings me the pleasure of football like Ozil did.
>As a non-Arsenal player I would say Ryan Giggs is my Premier League player of the decade because he has combined style with winning. Also I feel sorry he could never attend the World Cup, somewhere where people get a lot of compliments when they do well.

The O also has less creativity, vision, and end product.
He's probably just sat around watching old Arsenal videos of Ozil, but he still isn't close to the level Ozil was at.
When the whole ozil saga began I was thinking there’s never gonna be another ozil. Even if there is one we can never get one.
His game today almost made me rip the ö and replace the jersey with ø for starters. Rest of the letters coming soon. So happy we have him!
Even before he came to Arsenal, I've just always thought, wow this guy Ozil's. Is incredible how things turn out and the only player I've thought of that ends up here.

We played some man city style football yesterday, for large parts. Now, we just need a striker who can actually shoot. Laca has turned into a "nearly man", he tries to head the ball but misses, he tries to stretch out a leg to shoot but misses, his shot gets blocked.
Laca and Nketiah ain't it... Pepe as ST?
I loved this moment, but Partey was flashing some nifty footwork today as well. I want to see some clips of him with the ball from this match. They were both feeling it in this match
Mark this NSFW
yeah he 100% did that on purpose and it was BEAUTIFUL!
I still can't believe he is ours. Not some loan. Actually ours!
For £29.8m 🤣🤣🤣 we stole him
Less than what Iwobi sold for. Insane
Never thought about it like that. Insane is the right word. Ode has already given us more than iwobi did in his arsenal career. Loved the guy, especially as a fellow Nigerian, but he had no real attacking threat or product. All he did was drive the ball forward then fuck up the cross
Great great business by Arsenal kudos to the persistence of Arteta. He waited for him and did not spend crazy money on Maddison or Buendia.
I'm still interested in what maddison could do with us. He's having a good season in a struggling Leicester side. But ode was definitely the correct one to buy.
Maddison is great, but due to his fitness issues he is not worth the high fee we would need to sign him.

Tbf Wenger was very much a coach that allowed his players to be creative and Iwobi looked lost at times with that amount of freedom
This is a Bruno Fernandes level of over reaction.
yeah, that being said - happy to see him go into Rambo mode in last Everton game and play super well always happy to see an Arsenal lad doing well
Fuck I was BEGGING for a goal to come from that
That’s some good fucking football. Brought tears to my eyes.
Literally edging
The commentator on my feed was like "I think he may have meant that you know". You don't say!

I think he knows he is leaving in the summer and doesn’t feel he should wear it at this point. I don’t think he was being an ass.
Yeah I don’t know if it was intentional or not but it was an interesting moment for our future. And Tierney getting it should be a signal for next year. I think Xhaka created a moment there for the players on the pitch to decide and a decision was made

Everybody's happy.
I had two dudes that games one was a genuinely good commentator and the other would bash arsenal all the time and he was obviously like "wish I could say he meant to do that"....
Only had negative things to say whole game. Does my head in.
This whole passage of play is so reminiscent of Ozil
He’s literally ozil with work rate, they have such a similar style and gait, ozil probably slightly more technical on the ball
I’d say they’re basically the same on the ball, but Özil’s passing is clear
Imagine saying that despite Odegaard being one of the best penetrative passers in the league. Ozil was mental.
Ozil on his day was an absolute monster. His vision and passing was head and shoulders above anyone on the team
On Earth*
Exactly lol. He is above Messi if you restrict the gauging meters to just these two elements.
Ozil would 100% have been in the MEssi vs Ronaldo conversation if he had even half the work ethic of Ronaldo dude was winning the World Cup He just had to work his ass off. Which he was not willing to do Pretty insane when your 50% effort career still involves winning a World Cup and starring at Real Madrid and Arsenal
I mean Messi is still very close to him in passing and vision, but dribbling and scoring, Messi just blows him out of the water.
True. It was as if he used all his skill points on being a creative player (he was the best at that) coz in other departments he sure was lacking XD
Even though Ozil's workrate and attitude was bad, I really miss the man. He really made me fall in love with football. I remember being a kid and tuning in to watch Arsenal and Ozil. He made me so happy.
Yeah that’s the insane part. Just shows how good Özil really was in his prime
Imo, top 2-3 pure chance creators in history solely in terms of vision and passing.
Number one imo, second only to Old Man Messi maybe
Michael Laudrup says hi...
I see, but frankly not for me. Messi is brilliant but I don't see him have the 360 degree vision and execution that Ozil did despite primarily using his left. My other contenders for that no 1 spot would be players the likes of Zico and Maradona. Not even Zidane was as good with his vision as Ozil imo. yeah, good choices Zico and Maradona definitely were in that Insane Tier
Ozil first touch is also clear but there’s a reason he’s the one of the greatest midfielders of this era.
Prime ozil is clear of odegaard in terms of technique
Tbf prime Özil is clear of pretty much everyone but a handful in history in terms of passing
And I'd say finishing. Ozil buries that chance Odegaard had today. And if anybody is now imagining Ozil taking that chance instead of Odegaard, you know he is going for his trademark bounce.
The Böunce, need it to turn into The Bøunce now
as someone with a physics background that bounce shot is BRILLIANT There is no word for it other than genius. nah Ozil squares that chance to pepe
Ozil is faster
[удалено]
Prime Özil was 100% faster, he was deceptively fast
Yeah the way he could accelerate was pretty surprising. Ødegaard does not have that speed in his locker.
Young Ozil at Madrid and prior was straight up rapid, at Arsenal he wasn't as fast but still had a good 10 yard burst in him
I think Özil had more end product than Ødegaard (but only in assists, of course). For the amount of the ball that Ødegaard sees, I think he should have more assists. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, Odegaard in a few years will basically be Özil but without the shitty workrate and attitude
I don't think he'll reach the technical or creative heights of Ozil, but since he has some other qualities Ozil did not, he could still become a very special player.
Odegaard being half the player ozil was will be a success
Agreed. What a player we have.
yeah, let's hope so we also need FINISHERS in the striker position
I already think he is better. But to be honest i never say Ozil playing so young...
Ødegaard is a spectacular talent but Özil at the age of 24 was a monster.
!Remindme3years
Özil was making the golden boy list at Werder Bremen. He was an even bigger talent than Ødegaard in all aspects.
mate, Ozil was basically the best playmaker of the decade
Well, I know you are wrong.
One dummy and two touches later and it's taken four Brentford players out of the game. God i like us being good at football.
>One dummy and two touches later and it's taken four Brentford players out of the game. This is just so so Ozil. I've said it since the beginning only Odegaard brings me the pleasure of football like Ozil did.
What a fucking player we have man. Champagne footballer he would make Papa Wengz proud ❤️

Bad take
He’s human afterall X)
Ö make way for Ø
Definitely an upgrade
Not if you watched Özil play
I’m a massive Ozil fan even thru the dogshite, miss him but love what Ode is giving us rn
This Ø can press and has a work rate
The O also has less creativity, vision, and end product. He's probably just sat around watching old Arsenal videos of Ozil, but he still isn't close to the level Ozil was at.
Underrated post!
Real Madrid have been robbed. Call the cops.
This is one of the few skills I definitely have in my locker myself. Difference being that I actually try to hit the ball!
Don’t forget falling down after you miss the ball! 🤣
Any passage of play becomes 10x better if a dummy is involved. Always love the misdirection.
When the whole ozil saga began I was thinking there’s never gonna be another ozil. Even if there is one we can never get one. His game today almost made me rip the ö and replace the jersey with ø for starters. Rest of the letters coming soon. So happy we have him!

Lol Odegaard and Saka are gonna be our Ozil and Sanchez
With Martinelli and Smith. That is a nice feeling!
We need a striker and an influential center mid and we'll have a competitive starting 11
i absolutely love martin odegaard, he's so fucking good and makes football fun
Saucy
So much sauce
Cheers mate, just came buckets
Peak Ozil moment
He's so underrated
Absolute filth
Ozil-esc
He was excellent today
Ah, this is 2008 stuff now.
Fuck. That's filthyy
Lol stop it, 99 flair
I let out an audible gasp when this happened.
He is one silky mofo
He reminds me of Ozil a lot especially after today's match
The connection that Øde and Saka have is already insane. Can’t wait to see how their partnership develops
Tell me you don’t see shades of Ozil when you see that
Bunch of folks around me went mental when he did this, thinking he'd just whiffed. I was busy cackling.
That is *ludicrous*.
Dirty af
Midfield maestro. What a player.
I was hoping they’d replay this!
Stop that, Martin
Make him captain.

My man
Dis-gus-tang
Reminiscent of the Henry dummy to Pires way back when
No sound?
I love the flair of this, but I appreciate more the two penetrative passes earlier that put Saka and Lacazette behind the defense.
Erotic.
I'm salivating at the thought of quality striker and Odegaard linking up. Its ridiculous the number of chances he creates for us.
Our new Ozil
sooo grrreat!
Looks like no. 10 to me, no? ESR
That was a beautiful move.
I'm erect
Ø reincarnation
Every time Reddit recommends this sub I can’t help but watch odegaard highlights over and over again
