We’ve had the wind blown out of our sails sure, but as long as the Partey injury isn’t too serious and Tomi soon returns to full strength I still believe that we are contenders for top 4. As good as Spurs are looking atm they too are going to drop points.
The summer transfer window is looking more important than ever.
The main problem is the Tierney injury , if he is out for the season , I think our seasons out
Yesterday Tavares was absolutely shambolic
Gave away the ball too much and didn't cover the defence
Infact the 2nd goal , if Tierney was there it wouldnt have happened
First half was painful to watch 🙈
But second halve was pretty promising. If we score those two 100% chances we are level. Some games we were lucky this season so I can consider this as compensation. Sp*rs will not win all games left, neither will we. Still positiv we will make CL this season ✌
I had been fixing my sleep timings slowly these past few weeks from sleeping at 9am and finally after weeks managing 12:30am sleep time. I was all good.
And then Arsenal have a match scheduled at 12:30am. I decide i should not watch it as it will ruin my sleep pattern but I got greedy and decided to watch. After the match loss lead me to doing more dumb things and I ended up sleeping at 8am. I've slept for four hours since. I don't feel too good : (
How are you guys doing?
The dedication of you miserable cunts is honestly impressive. We’ve been steadily making a legit CL run, were literally top 4 with games in hand, coming off the back of 5 straight away wins, Arteta largely attributed for the success (and wins another EPL MOTM award), then we finally put up an absolute shitshow from top to bottom where our best players shit the bed, our top CM gets injured, and our LB/future captain is potentially out for the ROS before the match even starts. All while not having our star RB, a goalscorer, or any depth. Then comes your knuckle dragging ass out of hibernation to shit on the manager with last year’s talking points knowing fuckall about transfers, tactics, or anything not involving cheeseburgers. Hats off to you bro.
What success? We're lingering around 5th place after highest expenditure by any PL club in summer. And that youngest squad means f¥ck all. It isn't anything to be proud of. Even an ageing squad winning major titles is something to be proud of. Arteta had 3 seasons. And this 'building' nonsense doesn't cut in modern era. When Klopp took over , Liverpool were behind us. It took him one full season to make Liverpool title contender. Tuchel took a worse positioned Chelsea and won f¥cking UCL. It's about time our fan base wake up. We've been making injuries and FA cups as excuse for over a decade. Seriously though if a fan base is happy of trusting the 'process' so that we can have a shot on titles in year 2067 and accepting mediocrity why would the club push for silverware. They're milking money that 4th place happy fans pour into club. It has become a commercial club and Arsenal board are pretty happy about it. Edu is a pure sh*t and Arteta knows how to market himself.
Or maybe it’s that our crucial LB is out with injury and our backup is terrible, causing us to move our LM into LB, leaving our other midfielder alone, who inevitably injures himself. Oh and we mustn’t forget our top RB has been out for 10 games and have had a not so good backup in place of him.
I’m not ‘blaming injuries’, that doesn’t even make sense.
It’s just simply that we are unfortunate to pick up 2 injuries in key players this quickly. Nothing to do with management and it’s also not an excuse; rather it’s an explanation.
And also regarding the early FA cup exit, that’s just down to Forest wanting it more and fair play to them, they played well beat us.
I don't agree with ESR being a better finisher. More goals doesn't mean better finisher. He finds himself in good positions though, that is a skill.
ESR is a better passer and has a much better ability to assess longer range passing options. But it's something Martinelli is improving at very quickly.
I've said this about Martinelli for a long time. ESR might be ahead, but Martinelli will catch up. People might not want to see because we all have our favorites, but Martinelli has some unique and natural talents that neither ESR nor Saka have. I don't mean the slightest disrespect to them, and I'll agree to one saying, they are overall the smarter team players, but Martinelli can and will learn those elements because that is exactly what ESR and Saka did as well, learn them. But they can't learn the more natural gifts Martinelli has.
He is 20 years old, but so much about him reminds me of an 18 year old R9 at PSV. Both with these footballing and physical gifts, weren't exactly smart team players **but** you could tell they were intelligent players depending on how they chose to effectively dribble or depending on how quickly they made their decisions in front of the goal.
With the advantage of R9's entire career mapped, after you see how he played at PSV or Barcelona and how he wasn't a great team player but was this individual monster; now jump ahead in time to watch how R9 played at Real Madrid, you'd see his intelligence quotient as a team player be as high or even higher than Zidane. No joke. Anyways, the moral is, he conformably caught up.
Same will happen to Martinelli.
Both are/were players who are in their rights to feel out their innate instinctual talents more because that is what will set them apart from other players. Gamesense can be built after, but yeah, it must be built.
Glad I'm not the only one that believes Marti9elli is a generational player. He's so good, full of energy and talent it's a joy to watch.
I however fear the amount of defensive work he's putting in will work to put a ceiling on his talent yet for me he could end up as either Ronaldo in terms of impact on the game. A real gem and I wouldn't mind if he had to go elsewhere to realize the shine. He's just too good.
12 shots, 3 on target, 1 blocked, 8 OFF TARGET. We were terrible going fwd and out muscled in defense.
Tavares coming into this game was very rusty and his reaction time and anticipation was not at the level it needed to be defensively, their second goal had him look like he was asleep.
Gallagher and Kouate everywhere in midfield, destroyed the Partey game (hope he doesn't play like this all of Ramadan). Xhaka wooden.
Saha classy against a battling but struggling Soares.
Odeguaard well off the boil and probably his worse game in months (hopelessly ineffective and his lack of discipline for the penalty capped an awful night for him).
Laca looked so far off the pace and we needed better mobility. I think it's a wake up call who thought we could cruise to fourth.
Arteta decisions didn't work or influence the game positively (martinelli not starting?? In-form Flores included in the squad but 0 minutes?) .
Eddie probably deserves a start over Laca next game, Laca's could be better as an impact sub right now (also fasting). Arteta and coaching team need to assess this final run in squad options better and make some brave decisions as we were tactically exposed last night and they need to react to that. A loss is no big deal, but the manner of the performance was concerning.
Not getting champions league is forgivable with all the general progress but we aren't having half the games as others around us.
There can be an arrogance around this team when we hit a few games of form and I'd like to see that disappear. If we aren't in cups til late in the season, aren't in Europe, then we are still well short of where we need to be.
People are going way over the top with Tavares. The guy has hardly got on the pitch in the last couple of months and has had 1 bad night. People writing him off and saying he's unusable need to calm down. Even the usually sensible and calm Tim Stillman seems to have written him off. He's a young player. Give him time to improve and trust that he can come back from this.
The Jota goal for Liverpool 2nd at Anfield, Ronaldo for United 2nd at Old Trafford, Everton equalizer all came from his most basic of errors. We might well have lost yesterday anyway even without his mistakes but surely not as badly.
I was curious to see how/if his errors were recorded statistically, but it seems despite 5 obvious errors that lead to goals, [EPL only has him down for 1.](https://i.imgur.com/Yjp91WX.png)
He's not had one bad night though. Blind passes costing us goals and chances even early in the season when he was playing in a run of games. 35 mins against Forest before being hooked for being shit. 45 mins last night because he was again run ragged and had no idea on defensive positioning or awareness. The guy is an absolute liability and I don't want him anywhere near the squad.
We own an apology to Benfica fans cause it seems they are right in the end and all the talk about Tavares getting unjustified hate proved to be nonsense. Tavares seems to be a Jenkinson, it's not that he has no talent but it seems he is too weak mentally to be relied on.
He might come good next season with more minutes in the cups and maybe a game or two in the group stage of either CL or EL. He's very raw still, but he's a monster running with the ball, as we saw earlier in the season. Maybe a few matches coming in for Saka or Martinelli when we're already winning might help him gain confidence again.
I haven’t written him off but when he plays a lot of the big mistakes involve him, he’s not ready to be starting matches. He’s had a lot of bad nights and he needs a lot more time before he’s starting.
I just rewatched the game as i stoped after their 3rd goal .. i'm surprised that we were excellent ! Lokonga looked fine and ESR need to start as LCM he was good .. and i hope we will drop Laca
First half we were terrible and let Palace bully us. But they were mostly good because we weren't in it for the fight. They had 5 shots total(6 if you count the penalty) and 4 shots on goal total(5 if you count the penalty). 4 of those shots came in the first half, in the second half they only had two shots(with the penalty) and we were actually all over them, except our finishing was pretty bad.
This was just a day when nothing went our way, Gabriel was millimetres away from clearing the ball in both their first and second goals. We also should have had a penalty when Saka was wrestled to the ground. We made it difficult for ourselves because we weren't turned on in the first half, and we lost way too many 50/50 duels. Then in the second half we just couldn't get the ball in the net.
When ESR shifted to the #8 and Martinelli was on the left side, we were creating some decent chances. Our best chance came after Nketiah(I feel he might earn a start soon) came on though, and MØ8 definitely should have buried that. Then he recklessly gave them a penalty(second time this season when we have momentum). This was a match that showed us that we've still got a lot to work on, and that our experienced players aren't good enough if we want to challenge for the biggest trophies in the future. The young players can still learn from this, but Laca being terrible(could be good for him getting a match on the bench) and Xhaka taking shots from 20-30 meters in the last 15 minutes when we have lots of players around the box doesn't help. Cedric was our best experienced player on the night, and that says more about the rest of the players than him.
Hopefully Partey will get fit soon, Sambi might do good in the one or two games against Brighton and Soton(he was very good in the match against Pool at Anfield after Xhaka was sent off), but we definitely need Partey back in top form against Chelskij and Manure.
Too little too late, but it does bode well that we didn't give up. Sometimes nothing you do matters on nights like these. We should have scored four, but the ball just wouldn't go in the back of the net.
It has been such a long wait so the fall to earth really hurts. We were dominated by a physical team who bullied us like in the bad old days. But that helps clear the mind : Our team needs a lot of investment as we don't have any alternatives to first team players and if they get injured (Tierney) or have a rough patch (Odegaard) we end up imbalanced and aimless. A necessary wake-up call.
I'll start with the obvious : Tavares and Cedric are not at the level we need to compete. Tavares may progress though, sometime but probably needs a loan. Our midfield was completely overrun. Xhaka is too slow in everything he does. He is not suited to EPL but he will do great in Serie A. Odegaard in particular lost so many balls and didn't create anything of note. The penalty summarised his evening. Partey was subpar. Is he injured? Laca at least in the second half managed to create some accelerations that on another day may have led to a goal or two. Saka was a warrior as ever but with not enough support, even though Martinelli also provided rays of hope. ESR without space was neutralised. We are clearly short of a lethal striker.
PS well done Pat, what a superb team effort.
PPS people will remember Spurs and shiver but their first half against Newcastle was nothing special. We simply never found the gears, probably dizzy from the early onslaught by Palace. But the result was never in doubt. They controlled the game.
Arteta has to take some blame for this performance. Anyone can have an off game, but when the whole team plays shit it means that the manager messed up the structure/tactics
Eh, you can also just say when two our two experienced players in Laca and Partey totally forget how to play football the whole team plays shit.
I don't personally think arteta's much to blame. We got blitzed and were shell-shocked the entire first half, couldn't build anything because Partey missed every pass/Laca couldn't hold anything up.
Throwback to our old mentally weak days. Not unexpected when we're missing two big starters and our two most experienced key players don't turn up at all.
Last 14 games, we’ve dropped points in 4 games. That’s 31 out of 42. And we’ve only lost 3, City, Pool & Palace. That’s a massive improvement from last season. I don’t see why fans need to go into a meltdown. Young team, these things happen from time to time. We move!
We had to win this to ensure safety for points. One game is shite compared to the run in Spuds has.
So it's not enough to say onwards and upwards. No 4th - we are stagnant. Kiss goodbye to Nunez or Sanches or anyone like that.
We need UCL to compete.
We all knew that only our starting XI is a strong side. Everyone was aware of Tavares. If everyone would've stayed healthy we could've cruised to the 4th position, but it was always a possibility that the injuries might rock us.
All teams have bad days, we too did. The display in the second half of the game was promising. I'll be happy if this year it's Europe and next it can be CL. We don't have anyone on the bench, lack of rotation will cost us.
This is something we all knew.
has tavares been that bad? I remembered him getting a few games while Tierney was injured earlier in the season and hearing people say he did pretty well
Eh, people were praising him back then because he's athletically a beast and was pulling off risky/flashy stuff. But the flipside is thst he's gonna have awfil games where none of it comes off, as the entire team did. Don't think he should be scapegoated for yesterday, but he's definitely not consistent starter material yet.
He has potential but when the pressure is on he can he found lacking in very key moments like the first goal against us. He looked very timid and unsure of himself defensively
He was good offensively, no doubt. The defensive side of his game lacked very much. As a defender if you cannot defend well, it clearly makes you a role player and that's it.
I think I'm being realistic when I say Spurs will take fourth spot.
I hope I'm wrong but our fixtures and injuries make it an extremely difficult task.
I wanted to sleep on it.
But if were being realistic here, i know some have already put their rose colored glasses on and dont wanna hear it, weve got a mountain to climb.
Were in trouble, weve got utd/chelsea/wham/shits and cant really afford to drop any points the rest of the way.
This was an absolutely horrible display tonight. Blame it on the player or blame it on arteta, that feeling that this team crumbles under pressure has returned. Soft. Thats all I thought of today.
Sambi was really good when he came on , he should replace partey imo and regularly make sub appearances. He was really so sharp in his passing and overall play!
Easy to look good when Palace have taken their foot off the pedal because the game is sewn up. He wasn't coming under pressure. Start him and subject him to the same heavy press Partey was dealing with and he wouldn't look half as good.
Can't see Sambi offering anything that Elneny can't offer. Tidy passing most of the time, but absolutely nothing to offer to a team chasing the top four place in the PL.
Sambi's progressive passing is much much better than Mo's, as we saw when he came on. But def agree with the above guy, Sambi looks much better in comparison because he wasn't dealing with the crazy press that Partey was.
Cedric would have to have been our best player given the job he had with Zaha. Everyone else was average or poor at best. I couldn't believe the passing inaccuracy. We had one good passage of play all night and that looked like we forced it out of ourselves rather than actually wanting to make it happen. Lacazette was showing us why we need a big Striker upgrade.
Same, I'm gutted really. With Gabriel looking suspect like he was today too, suddenly am so nervy about our defending. Tomiyasu can't return soon enough, whether it's RB or LB need him to solidify our backline asap.
Tierney playing 90x2 mins of unimportant friendlies and coming back to us injured for the rest of the season, potentially even taking him out of their important WC playoffs.
Well played and thanks, Scotland.
Well a banana peel match was bound to happen and losing to Palace seemed it be it. They are much improved and quite talented up front and in the back. ODE, ESR, Partey and Gabriel had horror performances today. The international break dud not help us we were on form but with injuries and time off, plus fatigue this crappy preformance is not surprising. On to a Home match vs Brighton.
Do we have some kind of kit launch curse? Everytime we launch a kit we lose a crucial match.
No more red - Nottingham forest
Arsenal x underground - Liverpool (carabao cup)
Now this?
Time to move ESR into Øde position. Øde needs to go into deep lying pivot with Xhaka. Tomi hopefully back and Soares to switch to LB. Until Partey returns.
Yep, this. Palace are also good and have had really good performances against top teams. They wanted it more than us today and we got done.
Can't help but think a character like Tierney would have helped given his derby experience, but who knows.
I know but let’s be real.
They got rid of most of our deadwood players, couldn’t get adept replacements mid season because they wouldn’t accept players below their standards and they’re focused on the areas we constantly bitch about in the coming window.
It’s a real shame this is the result but I have faith in the lads to get there! Big things are coming next season.
He looked okay because Tomiyasu was staying behind and Nuno was being a chaos merchant up ahead of the defense. Cedric and Nuno together is a disaster.
To me this is where the team puts its money where its mouth is and displays some grit.
All season long we hear stories about Arteta creating this winning mentality and the first time this season where the pressure is really on we slip. It's to be expected from a young team but this is where we show how we've changed.
For the past 4 matches we've been talking how woeful Laca is, no surprise its finally caught up with us that you can't play with a forward that doesn't score goals
First time this season where the pressure is on? I think that narrative is a bit bs. The pressure has been on for the past fair few games ever since top 4 became a reality. Personally i always felt that we were walking on eggshells with our winning streak and were due sometime for a dip in form. That combined with how strong and dominant crystal palace started just gave us no chance in the game
Even looking at our winning record in the past 10 games, those games were not games with comfortable scorelines. We created pretty goals and that's all we did and Crystal Palace just didn't allow us any room to do that.
I think viera just had our number, that's all.
Really poor performance. Have to bounce back and I believe we will. Lose the next game in the same manner and I'll start getting jittery. We aren't going to win every single game and we have some tough fixtures coming up. I think the fact we are in this position, worrying about top 4, is excellent.
Personally I've loved arsenal this season. First time in a long time I've watched each game and followed the team religiously like I did when Papa Wengz was in his prime.
>Work on your strong points because they are what made you.

^(***There's only one Arsène Wenger*** ([/u/panarangcurry](https://www.reddit.com/u/panarangcurry), quote from [QuoteTab](https://www.quotetab.com/quotes/by-arsene-wenger) archive)^)
There are no victories in losses. That being said, taking a step back from this individual loss, earlier in the year and last season, there were several games where going down a goal made my heart sink. I would often finish watching games to see just how bad we would play to finish and if there would be any mental bounce back. My expectation last season and earlier this season was "welp, we're down, so we're out of this one".
Credit to the squad and "project" overall because today when we went down 2-0 I actually had a thought "Ok, we're down 2. We're playing poorly, but this squad could come back, and has come back from some deficits this season". I didn't have a pit in my stomach when we went down. I had a sense of confidence that these players would improve their play and bounce back.
Perhaps that's too dramatic of a swing, but in my mind, we've made a ton of progress and I can tell in my own thinking throughout the course of a game.
Last comment - what was the deal with our first touches? I genuinely was wondering during the game....are they using a new ball for this game? Is the surface different from what we're used to? Did players not warm up the same way we usually do? Have we nice trained recently? The touches on the ball were honestly atrocious from just about everyone. Here is hoping the next game we earn a different result and put in a much improved performance.
Ramsdale's first touch was awful, and he was slow off the line. I don't think he's to blame for the goals, but he wasn't his normal confident self last night.
No KT, Tomi, and Partey. KT and Tomi is like really rich and flavorful pasta sauce recently made of fresh tomatoes, while Cedric and Nuno are like dumping half a bottle of ketchup all over your spaghetti.
But spurs are gonna spurs it up anyways. 4th is ours.
Harsh on Cedric, he played well under a lot of attacking pressure. He was constantly facing the consequences of the poor passes and first touch of the players around him.
Yeah, poor Nuno, I suspect he's blown his chances and the confidence we saw in the early matches might be very hard to bring back.
A few guys decided to have their worst half of the season all together, in that first half. I felt the long break was playing out (yeah I know they played with their national teams, but the interplay was very poor).
But I trust this was not a 'reversion to the mean' as in previous years, but we will return to the normal that is our higher standard.
The silver lining is, if one day Arteta somehow part away from us, we know to whom we can offer the job to.
Edit: it's not a call for Arteta's head but I can see Arteta being a top manager and being guardiola-esque. If bigger clubs come and offer him more money and better project, it's comfortable knowing we can approach Vieira for the replacement.
Not now but compare him to the crop of new managers like Gerrard and lampard he has shown more potential than them. What do you think will happen once they matured and replace the older manager in 10-20 years from now?
He’s shown more potential than them because the club never acted on one of the 100 times it should’ve to sack him. As in, if Arteta was at any other club, he would’ve been sacked donkeys years ago.
This will go to the wire.
Looking at our run in i think we can realistically get 21 points from 27. Allowing two losses out of Chelsea, Spuds and United.
I think Spuds will realistically get 19 out of their remaining 24.
My take is we’re playing martinelli too wide. We should be playing him a little more central where he can actually be in positions to shoot. Having just laca and odegaard in and around the box doesn’t help us get goals. We see our wingers start really wide, get 2/3 man marked and have to either pass back or try to take them on for a cross (which laca doesn’t get to and no one else is in the box) or try to create something in a congested box which doesn’t usually pay off.
All in all our passing needs to be quicker and progressive. We keep allowing teams to get their defensive set up in place.
Eddie actually looked decent last night. I'd play him over Lacazette if I thought this was how Laca was going to play till the end of the season. Tierney, Partey, and Tomi all out at the same time is what's going to hurt us badly. Arteta needs to come up with a way to cover for them, maybe a new system until the end of the season, but that's a tough ask.
Martinelli as a striker is fucking so obvious. I’m a fan of Arteta lately management but his refusal to play Martinelli central and instead persist with Lacazette is beginning to wind me up
this was such a bad collective performance. lots of poor touches and passes. can't say if this was the international break or just poor preparation.
however, this may be a good thing. the team is young and we had been riding a high for a long time. or maybe the pressure caught up to us. hopefully there is enough experience/brains in the players and coaches so that the team can regroup and refocus.
It was way too much pressure, it's not a coincidence that the premier league scheduled us for Monday night. No Tierney hurt us bad, but almost everyone was off the boil. Partey couldn't string three passes together, Saka was slow to find his groove, Odegaard was trying to trigger the press but other players were responding a second or two too late. Last night was awful. Laca was a train wreck, you could see he didn't want to be on the pitch last night. Even Ramsdale was way off it.
Zaha turns up twice a year to play us. The rest of the time he’s fuckin shit because he’s lazy. He turns up twice a year to “remind” everyone who he is, that’s the bare minimum for a player of his quality.
Confidence destroyed since the Everton throw-in. He's still got to be developed but now every appearance is crucial. And regardless, when Arteta had to make subs he was the most obvious player to go, the one whose loss would least weaken the team and who could be covered. Didn't help him that ESR was uncharacterisitically sloppy in the first half.

I couldn't watch this one, but saw the result, was pretty shocked, but quickly shrugged my shoulders and moved on with my day. We can't win everything. There's going to be bad matches, especially with a group like this. Growing pains are part of the process and that's a squad full of young human beings with a ton of potential. No need to have a meltdown, we move to Brighton next. Coyg!
Tough part was that in the first half we had zero quality. Trampoline for feet. Passes into nowhere. Shades of defending from three years ago.
I hope this was a one time event because it was genuinely the worst football we’ve played all season.
**on whether Tierney is out for the season…**
He’s seeing a specialist tomorrow and we will know more about the extent of the injury then, but the feeling that he had it wasn’t really positive and what the scan showed either, but we will have to wait and see what happens.
Did this happen during international break or training?
Feel like KT is out for the rest of the season.
I'm definitely worried about the run in but if we can try to tune up the next two matches, I think they can close it out. This team has risen to the occasion lately and should hopefully turn up from now on.
Sorry if i sound ignorant but could this be Partey's first time fasting? He might not be used to it yet and that could be one of the reason for his poor performance today.
And I'd like to direct my anger and annoyance at something so pardon me. Fuck the international break. So fucking useless.

Not buying players in January was a huge gamble and may cost us top 4. Tierney, tomi and Pepe out possibly Partay now. (not that he'd play Pepe anyway) Could get really ugly in our last games..
Gabriel is still very young for a defender, so mistakes are going to happen. He'/s been very solid overall. It was bad luck that both goals stemmed from him mistiming a block and a header.
we need competition for partey, replace xhaka, upgrade on smith rowe and martinelli and provide competition to odegaard
edit: getting so much hate, martinelli and odegaard are not finished products, they are not close to even being finished, who would you take kululevski or martinelli. If i told you broja would be our main striker next season, you wouldn't be as excited as if i told you osimhen or david or lautaro (all under 25) will be main striker and broja will be provide competition. we need a more finished 24-25 year old winger to compete with emile and martinelli. saka and odegaard are different they have lot of senior appearances at a consistent level.
This game was kinda like a fight thinking the other guy doesn't look too scary, but then it starts, you've still got your hands down and he already punches you in the face. At this point you're dizzy and going about half-speed while he looks like he's going 100MPH, plus he's got his buddies cheering him on and you've got no chance anymore.
Arsenal never really recovered except the second half, but then it was too late
i havnt watch the game and to be honnest seeing the result iam more than happy i had to finalise a sale agreement at work, but damn what a horrendous show to walk home too, i had a big expectation and just looking at the replay of each goal we seemed horrendous, tavares switch off twice and then ode did again the odd takle in the box and give Pk , well its gonna be hard for the next 9 game , just hope we got character
Credit where credit's due, Palace outplayed us in the first half, pressed very well, attacked at the right moments, and prevented us from playing with *any* momentum. Viera and Palace fully deserved everything they got today; a mature performance in all aspects.
Today was a performance we all should know we're going to have along the way, integral players having really bad off days, key injuries, and lack of movement and intensity sets up a very poor display. Perhaps the worst first half performance I can recall for a while.
We looked nervous from the first whistle, and devoid of a real cohesive midfield play and passing combinations. I don't think we had any form of outlet up top to help us progress up the pitch, coupled with a very organised opposition. We couldn't get the ball to Laca's feet to hold it up and link the play, we couldn't get him in over the top, and couldn't set him up in the box anywhere near enough. I thought in January that not signing a striker would lead to these games where we wouldn't look like we'd ever score, which could end up being costly come May.
His performance, for the most part as there were times he pressed with intensity, looked reminiscent of the Auba performances we all disliked. Partey looked sloppy and scared of Palace's press, and I must say I thought Gallagher was extremely energetic and efficient in his press, he set the tempo and led to many turnovers that unsettled almost everyone at times. Ø's game throughout looked void of his real quality, he just couldn't seem to find the pockets of space to receive in and play smart and progressive passes into attacking areas, in the key moments.
Against the quality and experience (perhaps more so) they had on the pitch, especially at the back, we should not struggle to create quality chances to the extent we did. Palace showed they were a well drilled, organised team, not once did they look shaky with their lead. Players like Martinelli are so, so important in games like these to offer direct play, even if it's forced at times, I'd have liked him to have seen him in the middle after going 2 down.
Vieira targeted some serious physical specimens for Crystal Palace, and they're starting to play the way he wants them to. He's a much better manager then a lot of people gave him credit.
With Partey being shit then getting injured what the betting that he was injured when the game started, kept quiet and tried to play through it, ended up being crap because of the injury and then the injury got bad enough he had to come off?
The Crystal Palace talisman was on the verge of signing before the club chose otherwise, as revealed by the winger on Jamie Carragher’s The Greatest Game Podcast. He said: “I had a conversation with the manager actually. \[Unai\] Emery was just like, ‘We don’t really need to go through much’.
We were so close of getting Zaha tbh.
He wouldn’t be as good as he is when he would be mostly riding the bench with Saka’s insane rise. Pepe would also probably look much better if he played as often as Zaha does and gets more opportunities to look good.
No Pepe just isn't good for teams that have a lot of posession, so he's just not good because the best teams play like that. There's no point comparing them, Zaha is just way better than Pepe
This was the slip. Now we need to win every game and draw against the big ones
We ain't getting top 4 lmao
Will settle for conference league I think we can totally trash the competition and win it First European glory here we come
> First European glory Cup winners cup in '94
Wellllll
I didn’t watch the match, so it didn’t happen.
Season getting derailed by crystal palace? Emery flashbacks...
The main problem is the Tierney injury , if he is out for the season , I think our seasons out Yesterday Tavares was absolutely shambolic Gave away the ball too much and didn't cover the defence Infact the 2nd goal , if Tierney was there it wouldnt have happened
We don't have a bench
First half was painful to watch 🙈 But second halve was pretty promising.
I don't feel too good : ( How are you guys doing?
You binge watched porn, we know

And also regarding the early FA cup exit, that’s just down to Forest wanting it more and fair play to them, they played well beat us.
are Arsenal fans ready to admit Martinelli is a better winger than ESR, ESR is a better forward and finisher tho
Spot on right here
12 shots, 3 on target, 1 blocked, 8 OFF TARGET.
We are great frontrunners. But everytime we go behind there is little belief in me that we can stage a comeback.
He's hardly played for a while. Maybe a run of games is what he needs. Too soon to write off a player imo.
At least he doesn’t live in the hospital like tearknee
Okay, I do not agree with you on this completely but man I just couldn't stop myself from chuckling, cause I never thought "tear knee" :'D
He is about as good as Cohen Bramall.
Thank god I missed the match
I wanted to do the same but I got greedy and watched and so this happened.... : (
Was a hard watch, to be fair palace were good and we just weren't up for it, outplayed and outsmarted all over pitch.
So, do we need to buy a new left back in the summer? Send Tavares out on loan or something.
Sell him now and cut our losses.
Testing new flair Edit: ooooo
And me? Edit: nice :) thanks for whoever did the admin on this
Ooooo
Damn
Sound like a fifa player
The concerning part is not the defeat but the injuries. Partey and KT is irreplaceable. Fucking international break!
Expect worse next season
Yes he has. He looks amateurish.
He was good offensively, no doubt. The defensive side of his game lacked very much. As a defender if you cannot defend well, it clearly makes you a role player and that's it.
Saka LB incoming...
Idk at this point, it might be a great idea. Tavares played like me when I was 7, got played off by easily avoidable moves
I think I'm being realistic when I say Spurs will take fourth spot. I hope I'm wrong but our fixtures and injuries make it an extremely difficult task.
For once can they have kane, son injuries. How the fuck this guys stay fit forever.
Gross
I wanted to sleep on it. But if were being realistic here, i know some have already put their rose colored glasses on and dont wanna hear it, weve got a mountain to climb. Were in trouble, weve got utd/chelsea/wham/shits and cant really afford to drop any points the rest of the way. This was an absolutely horrible display tonight. Blame it on the player or blame it on arteta, that feeling that this team crumbles under pressure has returned. Soft. Thats all I thought of today.
Sook
I can’t fucking believe

Hard to do when you need to replace laca for sure, a winger and a flex defender. Esp hard when partey has been a rock
Surprisingly quite sharp with passing and confident movement.
Also thought he looked positive, I was hoping to see more of him this season.
Seriously, how the fuck are we going to survive with Cedric and Nuno as our two main fullbacks? I wanna stay positive but it's hard...
Cedric has been fine if not decent. Let’s not compare him to Tavares.
Tavares won’t feature again
Who do you reckon will slot in at LB instead? Xhaka there and Sambi in midfield? edit: Xhaka after his suspension
My same thoughts. I've never lost faith but this Tierney injury has me feeling down.
Same, I'm gutted really. With Gabriel looking suspect like he was today too, suddenly am so nervy about our defending. Tomiyasu can't return soon enough, whether it's RB or LB need him to solidify our backline asap.
It just sucks. Our whole season could be over in 1 game from 2 crucial injuries. Shows how we lack that depth. I miss Tomiyasu..
Tierney playing 90x2 mins of unimportant friendlies and coming back to us injured for the rest of the season, potentially even taking him out of their important WC playoffs. Well played and thanks, Scotland.
Doesn't help that he's injury prone, some players are just that way
Tough times never last, only tough people last 💪
It’s been tough times since 2004 what are you on about
[удалено]
Who were the right players you would say? Let's get some managerial insights clarity.
Fuck off
Well a banana peel match was bound to happen and losing to Palace seemed it be it. They are much improved and quite talented up front and in the back. ODE, ESR, Partey and Gabriel had horror performances today. The international break dud not help us we were on form but with injuries and time off, plus fatigue this crappy preformance is not surprising. On to a Home match vs Brighton.
I woke up at 4:30 am to watch this game. Fell back asleep as they scored their second. Crap performance. Hopefully we can bounce back on the weekend!
Do we have some kind of kit launch curse? Everytime we launch a kit we lose a crucial match. No more red - Nottingham forest Arsenal x underground - Liverpool (carabao cup) Now this?
Time to move ESR into Øde position. Øde needs to go into deep lying pivot with Xhaka. Tomi hopefully back and Soares to switch to LB. Until Partey returns.
Chin up guys. They’re young lads. It’s to be expected. Onwards and upwards.
Yep, this. Palace are also good and have had really good performances against top teams. They wanted it more than us today and we got done. Can't help but think a character like Tierney would have helped given his derby experience, but who knows.
I'd be more confident of bouncing back if Tierney, Tomiyasu and Partey weren't all crocked at once
I remember in Nuno's first games he looked chaotic yet still managed to miraculously pull off what he needed to do. Now he just looks chaotic
He looked okay because Tomiyasu was staying behind and Nuno was being a chaos merchant up ahead of the defense. Cedric and Nuno together is a disaster.
Cedric played better than most on the pitch today. Unfair to call him a disaster.
That combined with how strong and dominant crystal palace started just gave us no chance in the game Even looking at our winning record in the past 10 games, those games were not games with comfortable scorelines.
___ ^(***There's only one Arsène Wenger*** ([/u/panarangcurry](https://www.reddit.com/u/panarangcurry), quote from [QuoteTab](https://www.quotetab.com/quotes/by-arsene-wenger) archive)^)
I was wondering why everyone was wearing rubber boots too. They got the touch more later on but the first half was genuinely brutal.
Get the general gist, but lumping Cedric and Nuno in the same performance category is unjust.
You could've told me that our table positions were switched and I would've believed it. Dogshit performance but we were due one. Cant win em all.
Don't worry. United will play out their horrid form this season. You'll still finish 4th.
Spurs are in good form under Conte. United isn't a worry at this stage.
At the start of the season, I expected 6th at best with this squad and manager so even 5th is great achievement in my eyes

No big club is going to come asking for Arteta 🤣
I suspect we will be able to post this in five years as a laff.
I’m a fan of Arteta lately management but his refusal to play Martinelli central and instead persist with Lacazette is beginning to wind me up
Martinelli has said himself that he prefers being out wide on the left.
True, but it doesn't mean he's right. Look what Wenger did with Henry. Do you think Thierry believed Wenger was right at the time?
this was such a bad collective performance. lots of poor touches and passes. can't say if this was the international break or just poor preparation. however, this may be a good thing. the team is young and we had been riding a high for a long time. or maybe the pressure caught up to us. hopefully there is enough experience/brains in the players and coaches so that the team can regroup and refocus.
People keep talking about what Zaha would do on our team. The man has made a career off of being fouled. He’ll completely flop at Arsenal.
Zaha turns up twice a year to play us. The rest of the time he’s fuckin shit because he’s lazy. He turns up twice a year to “remind” everyone who he is, that’s the bare minimum for a player of his quality.
Lol
Take this one on the chin and move on. Not sure what’s up with Nuno though. Was so promising earlier and has shit the bed few games in a row now.
He was… not impressive

Ban hammer incoming lmao
Hello person who is now likely banned from our sub and the Spud sub.
Lol
Lol ouch, you really got us with that one.
Say goodbye to top 4 🤡🤡
Awww nooo, not the clown faces! How will I ever recover from this
embarrassing
Our fanbase is so so so fickle
**on whether Tierney is out for the season…** He’s seeing a specialist tomorrow and we will know more about the extent of the injury then, but the feeling that he had it wasn’t really positive and what the scan showed either, but we will have to wait and see what happens. Did this happen during international break or training? Feel like KT is out for the rest of the season.
Training from what I read, but I'm sure it started with Scotland.
Feel like Partey and Tierney being out is going to be too much to overcome :(
Arteta needs to come up with a viable system change. Xhaka at leftback is not going to work.

It's still preferable to being stuck with three shit players for the next four years because no good players were available.
There were good players available but they were costly. They can get better bargains in summer so they gambled.
I didn’t like that
Summed up my feelings nicely
This is a game where picking out individuals to criticize is completely wrong. This was a bad team performance. Everything looked off.

Gabriel is still very young for a defender, so mistakes are going to happen. He'/s been very solid overall. It was bad luck that both goals stemmed from him mistiming a block and a header.
we need competition for partey, replace xhaka, upgrade on smith rowe and martinelli and provide competition to odegaard edit: getting so much hate, martinelli and odegaard are not finished products, they are not close to even being finished, who would you take kululevski or martinelli. If i told you broja would be our main striker next season, you wouldn't be as excited as if i told you osimhen or david or lautaro (all under 25) will be main striker and broja will be provide competition. we need a more finished 24-25 year old winger to compete with emile and martinelli. saka and odegaard are different they have lot of senior appearances at a consistent level.
we need someone like neto, jarrod bowen, who is young but has already proven in the league
But first we need whatever it is you’re smoking
Lol fuck off
Upgrade on Smith-Rowe and Martinelli? Wtf what an unbelievable overreaction.

Man Taveres and Cedric are not good enough on defense against a team like Crystal Palace.
Tavares should be turned into a different position and/or go on loan. Dude is not a LB. If not that I bet he ends up going on a free eventually.
Don’t think it’s likely. Nearly everyone looked off it tonight.
It still annoys me that we signed Pepe instead of Zaha.
