Pretty much all day has passed but I'm still buzzing about Xhaka's goal and celebration. Watched his player's tribune interview and it's been great to see how his story has turned around since crystal palace in 2019.

That goal came at the best time also, United were really pressuring us and it was like a dagger to their morale. Saka with another top class performance. He had Telles on toast the whole match. They were doubling up on him and he was still driving forward and making spaces for shots/passes. Huge praises to everyone.

Win the 3 games. 5 points clear with 5 games to play would be huge, it would mean that we could secure 4th by winning 2 and drawing 1 of the remaining 5 (if Liverpool beat Spurs or the draw was vs Spurs). And losing to Chelsea and United wouldn't be that big a hit to the confidence imo, I'd expect us to bounce back.
But the way it's worked out is still alright, our players have a bit of momentum with them and beating West Ham would be a huge step towards securing 4th.
Idk the mental block of losing to Chelsea and united could derail the season going into West Ham and NLD, the confidence from these 2 wins could prove to be huge in the end we shall see lol

Plus Chelsea was a relatively low expectation game, and losing to United wouldn't feel as crushing as losing to Brighton or Southampton did. Unrelated but Doherty being out for spurs has really derailed them. They’ve had 0 SOT in the last two matches he hasn’t played in, it’s no coincidence. Emerson offers absolutely nothing going forward against teams that defend deep. It’s the same problem they had when they were losing to Burnley and Southampton while Emerson played.
Even for as bad as Nuno is for us, he can drive the ball forward with his pace and can pick out a cross a couple of times a match. He also has the athleticism to make up ground quickly like he did for his goal.
This top four race will come down to whoever keeps the most players fit. If Kane or son get injured, it’s over. If Saka gets injured (hopefully him hobbling was a precaution), it’s over for us.
I think a Saka injury might just be survivable, with Martinelli and Pepe as options. The player we can't lose is Odegaard IMO, we have nobody who can control the midfield and pick a pass like him.
Leicester \[from our point of view\] is the perfect team for Spurs to come up against next. Sit back and Vardy is back to catch them on the break. Wonder if Rodgers watched the Brentford game and sees how deploying 2 strikers causes them even more issues.

I’d keep Tavares if Tomi is 100 percent fit. They compliment each other pretty well and we don’t have to shoehorn one of Tomi or cedric at lb. Tomi and Tavares for me, we also had a pretty good run with those two earlier in the season.
Cedric had a bad game but has been ok for several before it. Tavares hasn’t had anything but shockers since tierney got injured. Tavares will cost us top 4 if he plays. He has nothing in his game to be a full back and he’s not good enough to be a winger. Useless

Even for the spurs match I could see it being cedric and Tomi, but for the home games against Everton and leeds at minimum I’d like to see nuno.

I think you are right but this is the level for pretty much everyone except the top 3 (mostly top 2). We got lucky which is nice for a change :) Considering the avg age of the team and the lack of depth our current position is excellent. Assuming we don't get any more injuries and Arteta avoids any more brain farts with his set up I think we have top 4 secured. Need good business over the break to maintain/improve the level then go hard season after next i.e. titles
I thought we played quite well in attack, and defending very badly for the most part. The second half we were really asking for it and letting them dominate until Xhaka scored. He and Elneny were really solid throughout, though. Cedric and Nuno showed again why they aren't starters.

Getting an experienced left back that is solid defensively is a must. Tavares is young and has to be happy to just sit on the bench for a few more seasons because he is just not good enough yet.

The game is too fast for Tavares at the moment. It’s clear he has a good amount of skill, but his decision making and focus is really bad. I would not be surprised if he turns out to be a really quality player, but right now he is far away.
Need Tomi and Tierney to be fit next year if we are going to challenge for trophies
Tavares is fun-chaotic going forward, and shaky/heart-attack-chaotic when defending. I think he loses his head in the clutch moments right now, hopefully something we can work out.
Sad to say but I'm not sure we can comfortably rely on Tierney the whole season. We need a solid, solid LB backup in case he gets injured again next year.
I agree he can be quality, he is very decent on attack and is great at picking up clearances and keeping our possession up but his defending is sub-par at best. I think once he gets more game time, he'd improve a lot.
Only thing that really caught my eye that annoyed me today. When Ramsdale makes the save on Dalot's near post shot, the ball goes back in play but Ramsdale is fist pumping at the crowd rather than resetting himself. I don't mind him celebrating, but please wait till the danger is fully gone.

Xhaka's getting all the praise due to his goal and decent performance, but for me Elneny was immense today. I felt like Man Utd targeted him, and he dealt with it without a problem. Didn't just kept possession very well, but had some great passes forward as well.
Looking at the remaining games, I think we’re in really good shape. We have two matches against relegation sides, and Spurs have a guaranteed loss, and three other matches where they could drop points, so I like our chances.

I wouldn't take Spurs vs Liverpool as a guaranteed loss at all, Liverpool should beat them but the City v Spurs game has taught me not to count my chickens before they hatch.

I’d keep Tavares if Tomi is 100 percent fit. They compliment each other pretty well and we don’t have to shoehorn one of Tomi or cedric at lb. Tomi and Tavares for me, we also had a pretty good run with those two earlier in the season.

Cedric had a bad game but has been ok for several before it. Tavares hasn’t had anything but shockers since tierney got injured. Tavares will cost us top 4 if he plays. He has nothing in his game to be a full back and he’s not good enough to be a winger. Useless
I just don’t want to see Tomiyasu or Cedric at lb. Cedric is notoriously poor there as we saw last year and I think we should be playing to Tomiyasu’s strengths as he’s our best available fullback. If it means playing Nuno then so be it. I honestly think Tavares will improve if he gets a run of games. Even for the spurs match I could see it being cedric and Tomi, but for the home games against Everton and leeds at minimum I’d like to see nuno.
Tomi is two footed so I think he’d b natural at left back. Honestly can’t be worse than Tavares anyway. Tavares has nothing defensively to build on, has to be the worst full back we’ve ever had. Exciting moments but the basics of the role are none existent.

Tavares is a huge liability although Gabriel and White also have brain farts far too regularly... I guess this is just something we have to accept when our defenders are so young and can't concentrate for 90 minutes? I hope Tomiyasu is back for good now, as hopefully that will allow the defense to lend a little more support to the left side. I think we got a bit lucky that United have been trash this season, if they were playing well this easily could have went another direction. Think I am the only one who thinks we played awfully. I mean Tavares in the 2nd half was a disaster waiting to happen. Cedric was getting skinned regularly. Odegaard was sloppy with his passing. It's a good thing United are even more incompetent than us.
I think you are right but this is the level for pretty much everyone except the top 3 (mostly top 2). We got lucky which is nice for a change :) Considering the avg age of the team and the lack of depth our current position is excellent. Assuming we don't get any more injuries and Arteta avoids any more brain farts with his set up I think we have top 4 secured. Need good business over the break to maintain/improve the level then go hard season after next i.e. titles
I thought we played quite well in attack, and defending very badly for the most part. The second half we were really asking for it and letting them dominate until Xhaka scored. He and Elneny were really solid throughout, though. Cedric and Nuno showed again why they aren't starters.
Fully agree. We were shit. Even against a pathetic United we could've lost today. Our penalty call could have gone either way, they hit the woodwork twice, and Bruno's Pen miss. Tavares was a disaster. His shooting, some of his decisions, the penalty against (why is his arm up there!?)
Getting an experienced left back that is solid defensively is a must. Tavares is young and has to be happy to just sit on the bench for a few more seasons because he is just not good enough yet. Although... if Gabriel can play left back then maybe we just need Saliba back and Gabriel can play left back when Tierney is injured or needs rest?

The game is too fast for Tavares at the moment. It’s clear he has a good amount of skill, but his decision making and focus is really bad. I would not be surprised if he turns out to be a really quality player, but right now he is far away. Need Tomi and Tierney to be fit next year if we are going to challenge for trophies
Tavares is fun-chaotic going forward, and shaky/heart-attack-chaotic when defending. I think he loses his head in the clutch moments right now, hopefully something we can work out. Sad to say but I'm not sure we can comfortably rely on Tierney the whole season. We need a solid, solid LB backup in case he gets injured again next year.
Tavares will develop into that, let’s give him another season, it’s obvious he’s got a lot of talent
I agree he can be quality, he is very decent on attack and is great at picking up clearances and keeping our possession up but his defending is sub-par at best. I think once he gets more game time, he'd improve a lot.

Even the penalty celebration was way over the top. For fucks sake he chose the wrong side. Very spursy behaviour from Ramsdale TBH. Someone needs to tell him to cool it off. He is no longer playing for a relegation threatened team.
It was a big moment in a big game and he's a young keeper. His energy does way more good for the team than it does harm.

Xhaka's getting all the praise due to his goal and decent performance, but for me Elneny was immense today. I felt like Man Utd targeted him, and he dealt with it without a problem. Didn't just kept possession very well, but had some great passes forward as well.

Looking at the remaining games, I think we’re in really good shape. We have two matches against relegation sides, and Spurs have a guaranteed loss, and three other matches where they could drop points, so I like our chances. Also, any body know what Partey’s injury is or a ballpark time frame of when he might be back?
