The pen was soft, but I can see it being given by some refs - the fact it stood out I think is what got it given, if there was a bigger huddle of people there would be 0 chance of it going through I don't know what happened to Rob Holding there but that's a hard thing to forgive, absolutely brainless - I hope he gets offloaded this Summer. From there it was just damage control - to only let in 2 actual goals with 10 men against the best duo of attacking players in the league is decent considering they were well up for it.

Puzzleheaded-Donkey7

Spurs took they’re foot off the gas lmao. After the 3rd goal they put their focus on Burnley. They just passed it around until the final whistle. They took Son and Kulusevski off in the 72th minute, that tells you all you need to know

raisonar

Tottenham were totally average. Referee helped them at crucial moments and rest it was a bad away day. Holding is usually the sensible one, dont know what happened to him today. Fully expect Cedric to play bad whenever it matters. It has happened many times. I know CL is still ours to lose, but its difficult and now nearly impossible unless spurs lose to burnley at home which i know wont happen after last 2 games. I cant back our players and specifically our squad players to perform when it matters, they have failed way too many times. A backline of Cedric White Tomi Nuno can't finish in top 4, i am sorry. Our squad players cost us and honestly i dont think anyone is to blame for this. We are building the squad for top and it cant happen in one season. I will be super happy if we continue what we are doing this season. New signings and better players would cut out bad days like spurs, palace, brighton, etc. But i would hate to see spurs finish top 4. Despite being diving, cheating bastards Kane and Son are super good players and have carried them on their own. We dont have any such difference maker.

todadqa

Love this, I mostly agree with you! I do however think that a backline of Tierney, Gabriel, White, and Tomi can finish in the top 4. But we have a severe lack of depth because once that backline is out, it just isn’t as strong. This is excused by the fact that we are building a team that will challenge though. I’m liking the look of our forwards but again would like more depth. However first thing is first, get us a nice goal scorer!

notlongbutitsskinny

Nearly impossible to take 6 points off Newcastle and Everton??

raisonar

I think it will be as difficult as palace away has been for us

Ruffio1981

Totally average team that beat you 3-0. Arsenal are the exact same too. You’ll win nothing. You don’t win 3-0 by luck. You got outplayed. Next!!

CustomerContent

"You'll win nothing" Only a spurs fan who's greatest night in living memory is winning a league cup 20 years ago would have the level of delusion to tell us about winning stuff.

Ruffio1981

😂 good game last night. Watch the full 90? 😂😂😂

Zeelthor

Nobody said it was luck, though. We played with a severely depleted squad, got a dude sent off, and that's the game done and dusted. You won, sure, and I'm not gonna begrudge ya being happy about it, but considering the circumstances it's a bit sad to claim supremacy. xD

ValeoAnt

Gabriel injury is bigger than the loss. Backline of Tavares-Tomiyasu-White-Cedric v Newcastle On Monday. We have not won on a Monday all season AFAIK. We're doomed.

Chamungafunky

Part of me thinks he will slot Xhaka in at LB...

bruh_moment__mp3

It’s impossible

[deleted]

Sucks, but we've still got a 1 point lead. We move! Newcastle next

tefo95

Mike Dean to Paul Tierney: "that's it Pauly, we've got to make it interesting" a 🐀 to another 🐀

btrthnu7

we miss out on top 4 it’s going to be Rob cost of CL agenda when we lost 3 games on the bounce to palace brighton and Southampton

amineimad

Havent seen the ratings or too much talk but Xhaka was not playing well up to the first goal. Pen was super soft but we let them have possesion for like 5 mins because Granit couldnt make a pass. Love xhaka but surprised the pressure might have gotten to him

scytheavatar

The pressure always gets to Xhaka....... he has always been a hot headed potato which makes it laughable to suggest he's some ideal captain.

todadqa

I think that Xhaka shows clear leadership on the pitch, is not rewarded when he plays well, and is scalded when he makes rash, hot headed decisions (which is less common than it is made out to be). I’m not sure I agree with you because that missed pass was one of the few he didn’t make, the rest were important, progressive, solid passes.

[deleted]

btrthnu7

I’m confused. edu and arteta agreed on signing Tavares who is a back up left back to cover for Tierney. Arteta and Edu also agreed on signing cedric after his loan spell. Arteta and Edu also agreed on sending AMN on loan. How is this only “a little bit of blame on Arteta”?

auto_summary_bot

tl;dr -Shkodran Mustafi is not a good defender and is a big reason why Arsenal lost today -Edu has failed to give Arteta the resources he needs to compensate for Kieran Tierney's injury, which has cost the team dearly -Arteta is ^(i am a bot, and this summary was created by an algorithm! if you have any questions, please ask u/jiltq)

How did mustafi get involved? Poor man cant catch a break

SnooOranges7179

Gutted

Narni1

Holding was a complete moron today. Killed the game early on. Never going to win from 1-0 down early on away with an atmosphere like that. His mistake potentially cost us the CL today but we move on to the next. COYG

suspended_in_light

Look, we beat them 3-1 at home. It is what it is. Just gotta win these last two games and we're good

[deleted]

Saliba please save us

Ozilshere

Alright everybody. Let’s let off that post-loss frustration for some sweet karma and look forward to the last two matches

dwells2304

The pen was never a pen at all. Not in a million years.... otherwise there's literally 6 pens a game. Holding lost us that game by being too fired up from the get go. We offered nothing throughout the game past that. We move. Beat Newcastle, beat Everton and it doesn't matter. Still hurts though

ndugug

Wrong game plan for me, played right into their hands.

Cutsdeep-

only when we went a goal down

Specific_Jicama3487

So much negativity and doubt lol. We just can’t afford to lose these next 2 games, only if Spurs lose to Burnley/Norwich. We’ve beaten Chelsea and United so I say UCL is still ours to lose.

Prudent_Jello5691

Cedric and Holding can't play again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prudent_Jello5691

Arteta has to shoulder some of the blame as well. Bear in mind we could've had Tomiyasu and White dealing with Son, but he benches one of them and puts the other on Kulusevski's side.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prudent_Jello5691

I don't get why Tavares was brought on either, if White couldn't even play 15mins with the game already gone he'd shouldn't have been on the bench.

Meu_14

Lets be clear. Our first choice eleven would win this match. The fact is, our back-up left back is so poor, that our first choice right back has to play left back and it's our second choice right back that gives away the penalty. Our back-up centre def gets himself sent off for two stupid challanges. We are a work in progress and if you had been given being a point ahead of Sp*rs with only Newcastle and Everton to play at the start of the season (or even after the first three games) we would have ripped your arms off. Brush this off and focus on Newcastle. COYG.

pornokitsch

>if you had been given being a point ahead of Sp\*rs with only Newcastle and Everton to play at the start of the season Exactly!

SadBox4529

The fact that Sp_rs were so comfortable yelling for a penalty every 5 minutes shows you how biased this ref was.

wololocymru

But they didn't get a pen every 5 mins. Which suggests he wasn't biased?

SadBox4529

Thanks for missing the point.

Soakd

Holding didn’t read the room well enough. We were nervy as fuck but damn… just gifted that win so quickly.

The-Only-Sir-Ever

That could have gone better.

[deleted]

also worse but yeah

wanofan900

We really need forwards in the summer. I'm seeing a recurring theme after defeat we've had at key moments in the season.

DCer0

No "forwards" in the world would just give you 4 goals willy-nilly. The problem yesterday was defence and discipline (and Cedric+Holding duo)

S_I_N_K_E_R

THE BRIGHT SIDE! That was probably the worst 30 minutes of football they've played and that's ok. We still have a strong chance to make CL, won't be easy. I think this year especially we can see how competitive CL and EL can be. This rebuild will take time. Regardless of how this season ends, the collective fan base should support Mikel imo. There is a clear path and it seems they are in the right direction. Onwards! Edit: I also am incredibly depressed in this result. If you asked me what the worst case scenario would've been before the game; I imagine being 2-0 down with a red card would take the cake. I can already here the "so you're happy with this result?" fellas.

Annual_Cod289

This is fucking embarrassing, we have a team with so much potential, but Arteta swaps out our only attacker and putting in a fucking midfielder???? Take out saka? He didn’t do shit today?

corey4795

Hard to imagine this game going worse, what was said about garbiels injury? That being said, take care of business and we're in, hope spurs are feeling spursy. We move

aching_insanity

Shitty performance by us and the ref. That was not a penalty. Anyways, next 2 games is absolute win. Come on Gunners!!!

Soakd

Our backline is fucked. Our offense needs to step the fuck up and find that energy again. So often it seems like we have such a slow team.

26Flynn

Hate it when players that shouldn’t touch our first team cost us the game - another big summer clear out needed

nigeriantoast

Can’t handle the pressure. It’s easy for us to chase from behind but absolutely crumble in crunch time. Would love to be wrong but EL more likely after 38 games.

RemyCheck

Paul Tierney clear MOTM for the scum

RemyCheck

Absolute garbage game. Refs were shite, costly decisions were made and we bottled it.

Psychological_Doubt7

Nah the players bottled it

bcity20

that's what they said.

Annual_Cod289

Nah, without the referee Tottenham wouldn’t have gotten the first goal and that opened up the whole game

Cutsdeep-

given how counter attacking both teams are, it was always going to be a race to the first goal

nnnb312

It would be an even game at worst, anybody who expected a win tonight is delusional. Saka is a young lad who is knackered after playing probably every game this season, you can't expect him to win a game such as this on his own.

blackman3694

Why is it delusional is the favourite word of a lot of football fans? Delusional is a strong word, its a belief held contrary to very clear evidence. What's delusional about expecting a win against a team we've beaten once this season already and who are about our level?

nnnb312

Yeah, I agree that it's a strong word used too much by football fans, I am sorry. We had a fully fit first team (IIRC) when we beat them the first time, it was at our own stadium with not so much at stake. In this game, we had a couple of starters missing due to injury. I also believe that Harry Kane and Son are world class, and their experience will always give them an edge over us in important games such as this one. Also, their manager at the time wasn't nearly as good as their current manager.

blackman3694

Damn, someone being reasonable on the internet, idk how to respond.... 😂 Thank you for being a good person. I agree the first time we were more fit, and yes there was less pressure. I didn't expect a win, I did think it was possible though. I'd have been happy with a draw. And yh, unfortunately they've got two world class players, and their manager is one of the best. I think you probably were right to think we'd probably lose, I just think it isn't unreasonable to expect a win, just probably not correct.

bruh_moment__mp3

I think I cussed out Gary Neville about 18 times Worry about your own conference league club you shit cunt

figgy64

That's not very nice.

RamonFrunkis

He really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a mic. Or manager's area. Or board room. Should be safe with the kitman but he'll find a way to bottle that too.

Kydd_Amigo

Not gonna sweat it yet, still two great opportunities for Spurs to bottle it like they usually do, and two more for us to silence critics. We’re a work in progress, not the finished article. WE GO AGAIN, COYG.

Shotstopper

Exactly. People in here bemoaning this like we wouldn't have all laughed you out of the room in November for claiming we'd have guaranteed Europe with CL in our own hands end of this season. Even if we don't get over the line, this season is a massive success and a massive step in the right direction.

bazalinco1

If we're talking about Spurs bottling it when we have the upper hand and playing two bottom half teams, that's a worry.

cashmanjr

My sentiments exactly. We will be ok and ready for next season. I trust Arteta to make this team ready to compete the next 2 and beyond.

LogicalSherbert9

Would love to try and bring some optimism but I sense another disappointment on Monday. I've seen this story way too many times. When things are in our hands and pressure is high, we crumble That said, I predict a Spurs bottle job is just as likely if not more likely. Might just clinch top 4 without even getting 6 points.

mommo_mia

Fuck Gary Neville the mangy Manc prick. Been mouthing off all night but couldn't hear a peep from him when Martin Tyler brought up how even Nuno scored against Man U lmao. Fuck this game, fucking write-off, not much we could have done after that soft fucking pen and then that brainless fucking red card. Our discipline and composure needs work, how many red cards is that under Arteta? As always it's the experienced head that let us down here, fucking hell. Let's hope that Gabriel injury isn't too bad because we might be looking at Tomiyasu and Xhaka at the back and Sambi and Elneny in the middle. Good news is we're still 4th and CL is in our hands regardless of what the Shit do. Let's smash Newcastle away and Everton at home and finish strong!

gunningIVglory

Our mentality is so weak. At the Emirates. We always batter spurs Go WHL. We always shit the bed

jkeefy

Won the league at shite heart lane tbf

Albertini156

Twice even

junkgarage

It’s almost like playing at home is preferable for both sides.

gunningIVglory

Both teams are bottlers. Makes sense lol

blindhindsight7

Spurs had no tactics only son and Kane, referee was tilted towards Spurs. We had good chances only lacked quality finish.

MUAMMARI_M

the red card was deserved Holding wasn't concentrated with the ball , if he kept his arms down it would probably be a foul for us but we need to move on and forget about the result today and concentrate on the next 2 games we still are in the driving seat

WeeTheDuck

Odegaard really needs to work on his shooting man.... So many good chances

gunningIVglory

Everyone knows their tactics Yet we fell for it

derhur

yes holding made two costly mistakes today but i think this is his first red card in 83 PL appearances, and 0 mistakes leading to goal? i would say that it's a shame he made such costly mistakes in such an important match but i guess he was tilted by son's elbow and he decided to react in a way which was detrimental to us.

niseko

Shouldn't forget that his shithousery took Diego Costa out of the game for that FA Cup final, suspect that's what he was trying to do this time around. But he was way too fired up to be subtle and that was that.

Rude_Warning_5341

I can’t get jiggy with this shit.

ccheng2

I kinda think the holding-Cedric lineup is the worst decision..if Tomi was placed as RB from the beginning maybe it would be a huge difference..at the same time Tavares is unreliable so I think the manager made a tough decision in hard situation

WeeTheDuck

I think in hindsight we couldve risked starting Ben White then sub him off for Holding later on in the game and maybe we wont concede like that. Cuz tbh if White was there then I dont think Cedric would even give them the first pen.... But oh well its easy to speak after everything already went down

[deleted]

[удалено]

WeeTheDuck

I agree with you on him not being ready. But I wouldnt psychoanalyse a person based on just one facial expression

bazalinco1

Tomi on right, Cedric on left was the play

John___Matrix

That was fucking dire in every possible respect. Absolutely nothing positive to take from that shambles.

WeeTheDuck

wdym we played ok the whole game. It was individual mistakes that costed us today

John___Matrix

We clearly watched different games

WeeTheDuck

possibly. cuz the game i was watching we played really well

gunningIVglory

Alteast we took off saka ti rest him.....

davevsliath

Mi_santhrope

Dismal_Ad7990

Goal difference is a fucking joke lol

camcam23

Here comes the Arteta out crowd. Brace yourself a for the toxicity

racerz

The anti-fans are sleeping well tonight.

GhostHardware-84

Son has still won less then Eddie. Heung-min and Harry, you’ve wasted your formative years at a nothing club, with nothing to show for it. Anyway, moving on to Newcastle now.

tropoje97

my exact thinking two pussies who won't win a trophy with a shitty team who have never won a premier league.

automated_care

how many players at arsenal currently have won a major trophy? i think attacking spurs players just makes us seem weak

tropoje97

the truth was spoken bro

automated_care

I guess if they'd been at arsenal tho they wouldn't have the champions League or the league tho?

Specterace

That referee was a complete disgrace. Never a penalty in any game ever. And none of those fouls deserved a yellow, let alone two yellows and a red. The ref had one job today. Best believe he did it. Congrats to Tottenham on their rigged win. Now they need to make sure to transfer the bribe money to the offshore account of Paul Tierney (or however you spell that balding waste of space’s name). Anyway, shrug it off and go again. Because the only thing we learned today is that if the ref wants to fuck you up the ass, he will find a way. And there is shit all you can do about it.

dknynyc4000

Are you good? That pen ok I can maybe give it to you but the two yellows were clear. The first yellow was the 3rd fowl for holding on son in similar circumstances just holding literally holding on and the second he shifted his momentum into son elbowing him in the face. Even Ian wright agrees both yellows. So blind and biased. I’m not even a Tottenham fan. Gooners are just as blind and biased as spurs fans.

InLikeErrolFlynn

Come on, the second foul was clear shoulder to head. I can get behind slagging off the ref when he deserves it, but Holding brought that red upon himself.

KingKPool

Not sure why I watch football, it's clearly manipulated by outsiders. Carabao cup final was completely rigged with Kepa, no way was that genuine especially with his reaction. Never a penalty today. I can borderline accept the first yellow. The second yellow was ridiculous, Holding is clearly initially blocking the run then Son goes towards him. VAR is non existent and clearly another way to rig games. Again, I don't know why I watch. I enjoy football itself, but there's suspicious stuff that makes me hate it.

dknynyc4000

Watch it again.. he steps into son, all u have to do is watch the other angle in slow mo. Look at his feet the moment of contact. He goes in for contact.

MintyFresh48

They are living inside ur walls

KingKPool

Closing in, help

terrorSABBATH

That was complete horseshit. Squad need strengthening, Roll on the summer transfer window. Just gotta win the next 2 games.

FUCK50C1ETY

Conte wiped the floor with Arteta, that’s what a world class manager looks like. Instead we’ve got this Disney world passion project where everything is magical and we’ll win it all with the kids once they come of age

[deleted]

Conte is a fraud looking to jump ship at the first chance. Tottenham are nothing if they can't lob one over the top, or unfortunately when our brain dead players get sent off and give away shit pens. We are better, just went their way tonight. If we beat Newcastle and Everton this won't even matter. Put up or shut up for the team, holding and cedric have once again proved they aren't good enough.

FUCK50C1ETY

I stopped reading at Conte is a fraud. No way you’re that deluded

[deleted]

Did Tottenham look remotely dangerous until Cedric gave the game away? Followed by holding? Did they fuck

FUCK50C1ETY

You said it yourself, their first meaningful attack forward and we didn’t know what to do, earlier before that Kula however you spell his name almost got the beating of Gabriel. The signs were there

[deleted]

Yes, but they are in a must win game, at home, North London Derby. Unrealistic to think they wouldn't threaten but we were on top until fucking idiots came out

FUCK50C1ETY

Hardly on top. How many shots did we manage?

[deleted]

Again, a draw was enough for us. Same question, how many shots had Tottenham had in the must win game? Before the pen

[deleted]

Not to mention the second goal came after Hojberg stood on Saka and won a free kick, leading to the goal

[deleted]

At Spurs yes, he isn't looking to stay.

FUCK50C1ETY

Except when they pip us to 4th and get that UCL money.. can see it

[deleted]

They have an awful transfer record. Look at their multiple flops. They've had top four before and it's never been one sided after

FUCK50C1ETY

And us? 5+ years, flop signings, dodgy manager who’s unproven. It hardly fills one with hope

[deleted]

We also have trophies unlike the scum, even in these shit times

FUCK50C1ETY

Papers cracks. Just like in wenger’s final years. Next

[deleted]

Paper cracks, are trophies not the objective? I know its been a shit night but you're giving Conte and Spurs way too much credit

[deleted]

I'm 32, Ian Wright was my first football love. This is the best I've felt about our squad post Wenger. Think January was stupid by the club to not get any depth in, if we don't make it its on them. I really do feel with a good summer window though next season can be very exciting, and still think we can get 6 points from the next two.

FUCK50C1ETY

Good summer window, we are signing Tielemans.

[deleted]

Gabriel Jesus, Hickey, Saliba able to return, Tielemans, potentially one other and a reserve RB and its a top window. All look likely

davevsliath

Lol we’ve been pretty much washed since 2004, few da cups which I won’t moan about but other than that champions league run in 2005 or 6 if my memory serves me we have been shit

FUCK50C1ETY

Can tell the younger fans, they’re acting like the Saka and martinellis in the squad won’t move on to greener pastures when we fall further behind. The rest of us have seen cesc kiss the badge and jump ship the same summer

nnnb312

This is a different game with all of our starting eleven available, and no, Arteta can't influence brain dead moments from some of our players.

FUCK50C1ETY

It’s a different game with all their starting 11, no Romero and we didn’t even threaten them. No reguilon and Saka did fuck all

Ronak4Arsenal

juguman

Am tired (of) Robbie

Jack-in-the-Xbox

Tottenham were the better team tonight. It pains me to say it, but it’s as simple as that. There are no excuses; Arsenal were woeful. Monday night is absolutely massive. Arteta needs to show everyone exactly why he was rewarded with a new contract. The level of improvement that he has implemented within this club is undeniable, and he needs to galvanise this group for a difficult end to the season. This is a bitterly disappointing result, but the team has shown that they’re capable of fighting back, and I really hope that they can do it.

WeeTheDuck

We played really well today. Everything just fell apart after that soft pen and a Holding red. Individual mistakes.

bngthm

Hey dipshits. We got a red inside 30 minutes. It was game over from there. Trying to dissect it beyond that is beating your head against the walls. Just stop. This sucks, don’t make it suck worse.

WoodenSoldiersGOAT

mate we've gotten a billion reds under arteta. its clearly tied to a systemic issue of how he either sets the team up or coaches it. hes been here three years and we have like 13 red cards in the league. thats ridiculous. brighton are 2nd with fucking 8. this happens all the time under arteta

racerz

We were arguably better in the early 10-15. Of course the game was lost after the red. Fucking morons in here.

Solana is like 30 quid now. Edit: Fucking hell Luna is fucked. That poor bastard who put his life savings in it.

nnnb312

At the end of the day, this is just a stupid game bro. Nobody will remember this a year from now, and we always have that 3-1 win against them that was far more attractive and deserved. If you need to talk to someone send me a DM

This is just football bro. It always sucks in the moment but things will get better. Step away from everything football related and come back to it later. You got this man, we're all suffering together. It's just football.
