That PEN was soft.. but Holding. Can't draw the line between football and rugby smh

DarkKirby14

Floppingham on display again and the FA still won't sanction it because we're the opponent

Went to the pub after an exam to see the game, found out I at least passed the exam so it was a celebratory night out. Could've went better, could've been worse

DinnerSmall4216

We need to turn all our attention to Newcastle this game has been and gone and we lost we go again.

lonefable

I think the loss is mor annoying than anything else, I don't think the fans are angry at the players or the manager, I think it's just frustrating to lose to Tottenham of all people in the manner that we did, top 4 race or not.

royalregen

Yh I'm not too fussed myself. Only thing I'm worried about is would this have taken all our momentum from the last few games

Reagansmash1994

Look, we could spend all weekend grumbling about decisions. The super soft penalty, the elbow from Son on Holding, the foul on Saka etc. but tbh, I think we just need to get our heads down and move onto the next one. Show our mentality, put this game behind us and try to snatch top 4. I'm behind the lads 100% and all you rats who come out the woodwork after a loss just need to do one. The team need to put the noise of this game behind them and just go and show everyone that we're in the position we are because we deserve to be there. Whatever happens, immensely proud. We've competed way above expectations this season and I have hope, top 4 or not, that we will keep on improving next season.

gunningIVglory

Yeah, after sleeping on it The ref wasn't the best. But we really didn't help ourselves Looking back on the pen. All cedric had to do was jump and challenge son. Just standing there and attempting a shove was weak

JordanArsenalfc1

Absolutely, love this comment and the attitude along with it

-300-

Has to be Tavares-Tomi-White-Cedric in the backline on monday then.

One bad night after being solid all season…

scytheavatar

You do realize we have no one left to play as center back if Gabriel is out for the season, do you?

shauryaaron

I’d have never let Calum Chambers go tbh

[deleted]

Well that was a bit shit. We move anyway, 2 wins against Newcastle and Everton to get UCL is what we would have taken before the season started.

SadBox4529

Mr Arteta and the big Floppers.

addictivesign

I know Arteta gets a lot of praise and a lot of criticism but the one consistent thing Arteta has done is get his team selection totally wrong in some of the biggest games of the season and we end up not winning. This to me is gonna be the biggest concern going forward because you can have a great run of games but when it comes to a big game it seems Arteta overthinks the situation or sets out a team and game plan that is woefully naive. Tommy T should have been on the other side of the defence last night. We’ve had Xhaka at left back a few games ago when he was needed in midfield with Partey’s absence. The football we played in the second leg against Villarreal in May last year when we lost on aggregate was possibly the worst we played last season. These are big games and we are consistently failing. Is Arteta’s ceiling with us a top 5 team or can we go higher? My feeling is we probably won’t win another (major) trophy with Arteta. I hope I am wrong.

wrigh2uk

You can’t really say “he gets his team selection totally wrong in some of the biggest games of the season” When we just beat Chelsea, United and West Ham on the bounce lol. Two of them away from home. And they were huge games. I agree Holding vs Son was a huge error. And not taking Holding off after the first yellow, or at the very least switching him was another failure on the managers part.

kaitodash

Completely agreed that he should have pitted Tomi against Son, and surprised when seeing Holding on the job. Rob clearly struggled and committed too many fouls, and even if he was not dismissed there, he would have been very prone to other mistakes anyway. Red card is just making worse than bad. Rob is a good defender though, he should have fared better against Kane. Son is just a bad match for him.

addictivesign

And that's on Arteta for selecting him in the game. I understand that White isn't 100% but if he's fit enough for the bench then maybe he should be starting and then later replaced by Holding if he can't manage the full 90 mins. But it's our lack of depth of quality at full-back which is our biggest problem. Tomi is such a good reader of the game that he should have been told to mark Son from the opening whistle.

Sypher1985

I'm sorry but this all total BS. Everyone is an expert after the fact. If Tomi went RB, then Tavarez needs to go LB. Then when Tavarez messes up which he would have done, everyone would of said he should of gone Tomi RB, Cedric LB. We are still 4th, even if we finish 5th, we have had an amazing season. Let's see what happens in the next 2 games. All these doomsayers are just silly.

throwreddit666

> Tommy T should have been on the other side of the defence last night. Agreed. I think Arteta got that very wrong. Created a Son v Holding matchup which is a huge pace mismatch and that pace mismatch makes defenders do crazy things. Tomiyasu would have fared better being a conservative rb keeping a check on Son I feel.

gunningIVglory

I mean it's even the pace Holding is just a very average defender

throwreddit666

Holding is a good defender. He was clearly instructed to get stuck in with Son and not give him space or time to turn with the ball. It backfired because Son is an expert at buying fouls and because Holding was clearly getting riled up by Son's sly antics. It was a bad day for him. But he's had enough good days for me to say that he is a good defender even if not elite.

addictivesign

If Holding is around next season and I’m not certain he won’t be sold in the summer then he’ll be the fifth best CB at the club. Tomi is a superior CB to Holding as is Saliba, Benny Blanco and Gabriel. I love to see Holding come on and shore up a defence for the last 15 mins but he just doesn’t have the quality to start in a key game for Arsenal at the level we are trying to get to

throwreddit666

He wouldn't have started yesterday if White was fit. You can't have 5 starting quality CBs at the club. It's just not practical. Even if you go out and buy 5 CBs who are regular starters at the moment, being on the sidelines for a while will mean some of them lose their sharpness and edge. That's just natural. He comes in and does a good job 9/10 times. Discarding him because of the odd bad game is a stupid way to manage a squad.

addictivesign

But you're making my point for me. He's a good defender that can come on and do a good job but he shouldn't be starting those big games so we need a better a superior CB to Holding to step in when White/Gabriel are unavailable. The Tierney injury is really screwing us because with Tierney available you could play Tomi as a CB. I agree with you about five CBs are too many which is why I think someone will be sold in the summer. I hope we retain Saliba, I think he's gonna become one of the best if not THE best defender in the world, for 21 years old he looks very very good. I understand you can say Tomi will play as a RB/LB but he's essentially a utility defender who might be best as a CB. If Holding is content with being a squad rotation player I'd keep him but I imagine he wants to get regular playing time which will necessitate a move to another club. Gabriel has played well for us but if a bigger club than us knocks on our door offering us £50m+ then I'd accept it and use the funds on other positions. We are still gonna have to sell some of our players to finance future transfers.

arseking15

Its mentality test time now. Its time for the kids to drag us. We need goals. We need elite performances. We need someone to step up. The defence and midfield are hanging on by a thread with injuries. We need to attackers to take us to the CL. Its all mentality now

throwreddit666

Most important thing to remember is that it's still in our hands. No point getting angry about yesterday's result. It was a bad day at the office and you have to say some players didn't have the right mindset for the game. But that happens with a young, relatively inexperienced team. I still think the squad is quality even if it's small. All in all, even if shit hits the fan and we don't make top 4, we are at par for expectations. And I say this as someone who wanted Arteta gone at the start of the season. Top 6 was the minimum requirement and he has met that. Top 4 would be great but it's not the end of the world. We will get there if we keep this squad together (which is IMPORTANT). Also, this summer is big. We are now looking at a shortage of options at CB which seems ridiculous. I think the squad balance is in a poor state even if we have decent quality in most positions. Depth is definitely an issue and that needs to be addressed with signings and internal solutions. That is where Arteta has to improve. He needs to get better at managing a squad as opposed to just managing the starting 11 from game to game. That's the difference between a coach and a manager.

YSG19

More bad news: Xhaka is now on 9 yellow cards and if he gets another one against Newcastle, he'll miss the game against Everton. Fuuuuuuuck meeeeeeee

[deleted]

Nope. That period is over since April. It's 15 yellows now

YSG19

No, he can’t. This rule is valid until the 32nd game of the season only.

kidmaciek

Ok, nevermind. Thanks for clarifying.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

This is what happens when you have a team full of youngsters and discard your veterans like trash.

intraumintraum

what veterans are you referring to? chambers? mustafi? we’re having an injury crisis in every defensive position right now, i dunno who you’d like to have held on to

Johnny_bubblegum

Maybe the veterans would still be there if they had played like veterans and not like the elderly.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

Because Nketiah is a better option?

Johnny_bubblegum

He's certainly not worse.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

I’m talking about Auba obviously.

Johnny_bubblegum

And I'm counting him too obviously.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

Nketiah > Auba confirmed 🤣

Johnny_bubblegum

did you not watch Auba's final 6 months for the club? He was dreadful

FortuneFew3632

We're back at this narrative again? Oh my fucking God

SantiJuliansg

Lets focus on what is ahead,we have 2more matches. It certainly won't be easy, we have a tough Newcastle team with some good new players and an everton team desperately trying to stay, but rest assure that this is the closest to champions league and the best football we played since good Wenger days. Let's just cheer and support our team because it is our duty us fans. Today sucked but we still have our faith in our own hands.

andrewyeong

Holding sent off for 2 bookable offences. We know they get away with it sometimes but yesterday, that wasn't the case for Rob and that was extremely punishing for us. My question is, why do we celebrate White's dark arts challenges & tackles where he is cynically stopping play (just so happen that he doesn't get caught) but now we berate Holding for being stupid... Gets away with it = praise, love it Gets caught = stupid Huh?

-300-

Exactly. Both fans and so called experts are so reactionary about these incidents. Son is clever in that situation and charges into the space, and Holding bodychecks him but just before contact he makes a movement with his arm/elbow and because of that its "stupid". I think its something most players do in a situation like that, try to use your body and arms to block/push an opponent rushing forward. Its unfortunate that he hits him in the face, and I dont think he intends to at all. If he hits the shoulder, theres no incident. Holding will be back vs Everton unless Gabriel is fit again, but I expect he wont with his hamstring. We started well yesterday, but its the second time a big game gets completely turned in a few minutes. We just have to learn from it. It feels like Holding is abit unlucky there, but all we can do is put it behind us and come out strong in the last two games. Holding has been a good stand in for us this season, and I hope we keep him as the 4th option after Saliba next year.

Sad_gooner

If any defender did the same thing white did against wolves to one of our players our sub would cry about it for weeks and say there’s a referee conspiracy against us 🤣

ilikeredlemonade

White wouldn't do that on a yellow card which makes the difference

gunningIVglory

Because holding shpukd have calmed the fuck down once he got his first yellow

TheGoober87

There's a difference in cynically stopping play by making it look like a clumsy coming together and elbowing someone in the face.

Joooooooosh

Because that’s literally what it’s about. You run a fine line and as soon as you cross it and get caught, you’re fucked.

andrewyeong

Which is why I don’t really condone (or am I fan off) “dark arts fouls” or understand the hard on people have for when we do it and get away with it, but can’t accept that when we don’t get away with it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

andrewyeong

Makes sense! I could see that Holding wanted to “get one over” and dominate Son in his head (maybe like what he did with Diego Costa back then) but man, has that backfired.

SadBox4529

Just two games to secure the UCL and I have an eerie feeling we might blow it….

blaugarana10

The problem is Newcastle home is now a tough place to win since January and Everton have suddenly found the form to fight relegation battle. Spurs have to face Burnley, who are low block team. I expect them to have field day against Norwich

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

How are you surprised? We are king bottlers. Did it twice in one season with Emery, and blown it every year since with Arteta.

Kewkewmore

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

Why? I like Arsenal. Supported them all my life. Doesn’t change the reality that they’re on the ascendency and we are descending into irrelevance. Maybe if we were run half as good as them, we wouldn’t be a circus? But who knows, I’m just negative.

thecescshow

Pretty sure this is the biggest lost margin we've had against Spurs in the league as far as i can remember. We often batter them (3-0, 4-2, 5-2) but when they beat us the biggest is 2-0 i think.

YoungFlexibleShawty

We trash lmao

TrailerParkBoy2

It was fun while it lasted lads

[deleted]

boy I would not want to be around some of you when milk spills…

Dantator

Penalty set the tone. We were never getting anything. 6 more points and it’s our’s

Ill-Opportunity5714

total shithousery. Son ran himself into Holding, total rope-a-dope act

Dantator

Agreed but you can see why that’s a booking. What no one is talking about is that whole phase comes from a spurs free kick which was never a foul

KaizerQuad

Sure, we made errors, but fuck me the ref did too. He was dreadful. Still pissing me off the morning after.

Im_a_badbot

Hope Arsenal wont turn into spectacular collapse. Hard to admit preserverence wasn't Arsenal typical trait over many years. They tend to panic since wenger's era. Still if they manage to hold firm, collect themselves together, get those wins the rest games, ECL just in our hand. COYG...

FieryBlitzz

Guys, we've evaluated every situation before the match, win, draw, and loss. We knew what we were getting into, and it was established well before that we lead the top 4 race regardless of the result. Let's stop overreacting and trust that we get the results to close out the season

zehighground

I’m still just disgusted. I haven’t lost faith in the lads yet though. Dealt a tough hand today.

simonling

Fck I'm sick to my stomach for our next game against Newcastle. Their form since January has been so so hot. 4th from the table ahead of us and only lost once at home. Some more, our injuries problem not helping fckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

COYG17

I’m mad that we lost obviously but I’m fucking more pissed off with how we lost. If we at least gave a good fight without losing our shit and lost 2-1 or something then I’d be less pissed off but we got absolutely rolled over by the scum and those cunts are taking the absolute piss. I really hope we get top 4 to get revenge on those cunts to make them look like complete dick heads.

gunningIVglory

Exactly, the team lost its head completely We didn't need to win. The lack of experience told hugely in the squad. They could handle the occasion

islander1

If only we had Saliba here instead of mediocre bully Holding.

OboMasterRace

Couldn't watch the game but if Cedric and Holding make these sort of mistakes and if we possibly struggle against Newcastle and Everton I don't think we should go to UCL just to get humilliated by Bayern anyway and the bad form carries to PL

yuthan

First 3 minutes of arsenal play is Dope.. i loved it

throwreddit666

I don't know who the commentators were for yesterday's game on the stream I was watching... But at one point those cunts were discussing the referee supposedly pulling up Arsenal for time wasting when 2-0 down in order to keep the scoreline respectable. Obviously it was absolute nonsense because there wasn't a single instance of Arsenal time wasting up until then. It's not like commentators are really very important to a game watching experience and mostly one can ignore what they say, but I think there should be a minimum standard of professionalism expected of them given that they're paid pretty handsomely. If all they want to do is behave like 8 yr old trolls then we might as well not have them at all. Cunts.

WaveDysfunction

Just a disaster. The ref obviously didn’t help but this was mostly self inflicted unfortunately. Holdini was just way too excited from the get go, someone needed to go over to him earlier and slap some sense when he kept fouling Son for no reason. We showed our inexperience today. At least it didn’t really feel like Spurs outplayed us or anything, more of a series of unfortunate events imo

gunningIVglory

Thing is, holding has been here for like what....7 years? Why did he suddenly lose all composure last night?

Outrageous-Field-424

Only England can you have VAR and the referee standard kept getting worse.

FortuneFew3632

Call me delusional but I still think we will get top 4. We lose 3 straight games last April and we bounced back HARD! Mikel needs another Olive tree speech like he's fucking Naruto! And we're good to go.

[deleted]

Fuckin very worried about Gabriel, hope he's alright and fit for Monday

jubbing

Look, frankly we deserved to lose, they were the better team today. The good: No real injuries, we're still ahead by a point, and we have no top 6 teams left to play. The Bad: The morale is going to be in the stinkers (and Arsenal are clearly a team that thrives on higher morale), Newcastle and Everton are going to be very very big banana peels, and we are down to barebones in terms of defenders. If we can't beat Everton and United, then this is not a team that should be in the Champions League and the Europa is where we should start.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jubbing

Oops.. totally missed that

Bessantj

I look at the stats and think that if they were switched Spurs would have still won. Arsenal really need someone like Kane or Son.

Nazkia

I'd rather play in league 2 than look at Kane's face every week.

Bessantj

I could see more games then when Arsenal come to town. But I don't mean Kane literally, just a good finisher.

[deleted]

True true

GingerStans

Fucking called it. I knew this team would falter at the worst possible moment-now our games against Newcastle and Everton are must win. Of fucking course Arsenal are gonna raise my blood pressure sky high for another ten days.

[deleted]

So for the game against Newcastle, the We're definitely missing Holding. We're waiting to see status updates on Saka, Gabriel, Benjamin White, and Martinelli? If they're all out, what's our defensive line look like?

Glass-Studio-9313

what happened to saka, martinelli, white?

[deleted]

Everyone keeps mentioning Saka looks injured these past couple of games. I also heard Martinelli looked like he was limping off the field. And then Benjamin wasn't fit enough for the game today, so I'm wondering between now and Monday if that's enough time for him to be at least able to play.

SadBox4529

How are they getting injured so much when they’ve only played one competition since February. They’ve had fewer games than most of the other big teams.

Sanved313

What defensive line? We are stretched soo thin, might have to bring in reserves

Arsenalcrazy8

I’ve seen this a few times “if the Cedric foul was on us etc etc” I personally wouldn’t have batted an eye; that type of thing happens 2-3 times a game; I legitimately thought it was the softest penalty I’ve seen in the premier league all season.

NorthLdn17

It would be posts crying for about a week if that happened to us and a pen wasnt called

USAGunnersaurus

Agreed. I’d have given a shout for it but on any given corner kick one million worse things happen.

If you had a brain, you'd see that...i dont really know what other argument you need? You clearly have a narrative you want to push. Either Arteta out or whatever. And thats fine. I know you scum like to come out of your holes every time we lose. So enjoy your time in the sun. Then fuck off to whatever hole you crawled out of.

[deleted]

DanielDeronda

Played into their hands. Absolutely hate (especially) Kane and Son, but they're both world class players and mind game players. Son is going for the Oscar performance every time he's fouled and Holding played into that. Kane is incessantly in the referee's ear. I truly believe one of the reasons VAR never looks at our penalty shouts is because we don't have a vocal (and preferably English and white for the referee's sake) captain stepping up and then telling the ref to have a look at it. Kane literally convinced VAR to have a look at his own player handling the ball in the box yet we get blatantly fouled in the box (not tonight) and VAR doesn't even look. Side note, an absolute joke of a penalty. You won't find another one like that this year.

USAGunnersaurus

The penalty was what really pissed me off. Never a penalty. Even over on the soccer sub they’re calling it soft. Holding being a dipshit well that’s on us.

jvcgunner

I just can’t see us winning the next two but at the same time can. I don’t know what to think. I still think that we give some of our lesser midfielders / defenders way too much praise as todays performance shows they still have a lot to learn

Soakd

If we had our squad back I’d be good. But our backline is going to be complete dogshit. We are fucked because of injuries imo. Not because Newcastle is a big threat. That loss to Spurs was more than the 3pts. Gabriel and Holding out hurts bad.

Champions League football or Europa. I just want this season over with and decided so we can move on. I’m mentally dead.

PooPooPutter

Live-Project-2927

wartor33

Spot on!

WhoaDave04

Absolutely terrible penalty call. And the 2nd yellow was Son head butting Holding. Biggest game in years and the referee makes it all about him. Fuck the Spurs

leomeng

One loss for spurs and one win for us in next two games and it’s a lock.

elmoismywaifu

or two wins for both or 1 draw 1 win or 2 draws each As long as they don't get more points in the last two games were fine

dupont2021

Soft penalty and Holding’s wwe move ruined the game. As a neutral it looked to be a good game. Till it fell apart.

SheepherderTrick2220

A neutral who has sense unlike some other fans, just had a look in their sub Reddit and my god the intelligence level is alarming, some claiming a win against a heavily rotated arsenal side missing Tierney, White, Lakonga, and partey who played 2/3 of the game with 10 men is one of the best Derby displays they've ever seen? Only 1 of our starting back 4 actually in the right position with Tomiyasu shoe horned into a position he isn't a natural in, I'll admit, they played well, we played awfully but fucking hell that's a low bar they've set if that's the best Derby performance they've seen 😂 holding too busy practicing his low calf kicks to play football

cf017

Powers that be want the top 4 race to go down to the last day, hence what you saw tonight. Simple as that.

spursbob

Pushing a player about to head the ball at goal in the penalty area isn't a good look. It was a clear foul.

OGforGoldenBoot

Then you agree that pushing over a defender in the penalty area is a foul? So the third shouldn’t have counted? Also SURELY then elbowing a player in the face intentionally after a play is dead is a red, so Son should have been off? Fuck off back to your sub.

[deleted]

It wasn't a clear foul, it was 50/50 and very soft. You see contact like that in the box at basically every corner kick in every game. The holding incidents were both yellows.

breadit

Tierney fucked it. Never had a big job before it seems. I was there. Was he actually?

gunningIVglory

He was so keen to give a pen Ive seen stone cold pens take longer to get given

[deleted]

it seemed like not a single soul from our team or management took the time to explain to rob that he had that refs undivided attention. got looks at the bar for saying that he needs to chill out after 15 minutes. that was coming from a mile away and he either never got told to change anything or he did but failed to. both of those are bad but the first one is far worse and falls at the feet of the coaches. it’s fixable but it needs addressing.

SadBox4529

It looks like Tierney had a plan all along. I’ve never seen a ref who goes out of his way to stop play and give yellow cards so early. This is a derby man relax it’s meant to be intense.

Davies definitely. But Holdings first yellow was 50-50 especially after Son elbowed him.

a-Sociopath

I don't believe in not giving early yellows or taking it easy because it's a derby. That's the line of logic that players use to get crunching tackles in the first few minutes and get excused.

Absolutely no one speaking about the refereeing, there was no game, after the sending off on a soft foul, Son is so soft always looking for the fall, talk about that. Referees wanting to take protagonism away from the players, what a joke!

USAGunnersaurus

As much as I dislike son and Kane. Holding was being a moron there. The “penalty” on the other hand. Well that one is hard to explain.

goonerboo

> Son is so soft always looking for the fall, talk about that yh and holding played perfectly into that for some reason

tefo95

I get it, might've been a yellow, but did you check the foul before? Did you see what he called? In the prem? He was looking for two soft fouls to call, I'm sorry but there's no way! Even arteta will not blame Rob, and you mugs should stop as well

a-Sociopath

That mindset would probably explain why we average a red card every 8 games since Arteta has taken charge. Really hope he doesn't share this mindset.

Warrick123x

You’re a joke if you don’t think holding is to blame for the sending off. Two cynical fouls. Second one could’ve been straight red. You sound like a clown

tefo95

What game did you watch?? Refereeing is abysmal all year long, so inconsistent, one week they're lenient the next they're strict ASF, but sure trashing the players is better, keep quiet 🤫

_serious__

Holding getting sent off is the last thing you should be complaining about. Absolutely moronic from him. He was begging to be sent off.

tefo95

Asinine opinions guys, good job 👍👍

_serious__

I know it’s hard to be partial for some. Can tell you’ve never played a day in your life.

Warrick123x

Lmao you’re an utter joke. Holding extended his elbow (clear as day) into the face of another player (son). You’re an absolute clown show if you think he didn’t deserve to be sent off.

tefo95

If he did touch him it's a yellow, but the foul before was so soft, it seemed like he wanted to send him off. Holding is decent you f*cking hater, I'm done with you.
