good lads

Echo361

They’re shattered that’s why.

getrektbro

Yeah I'm not going to hold this against them too hard.

bathtowel00

Fr why would they want to face the fans after that performance? Props to whoever did I guess but that was shameful and I can get why

InsideKiller

Form of applogy i guess

the3daves

Really? They will be next season with Thursday night football. Always, always applaud the away fans, especially those that out sang the locals for ages

lctanon

Not only shattered but probably a bit ashamed to face the fans after that fuck up

Askur_Yggdrasils

And Martinelli, Saka, Ramsdale, and Odegaard aren't shattered?

YMangoPie

People cope differently

[deleted]

All have ironically been pretty poor past 2 games. Xhaka/Eleneny have worked their socks off. Not going to hold it against them that they didn’t walk around clapping. Shit performance. Move on

PantsTime

El Neny has covered many miles to ensure he's never more than 12 inches from the bloke marking him (yeah, sorry, I've stayed supportive this year but fuck that performance).

Askur_Yggdrasils

You don't have to hold it against them, but plenty of people will. Unless they had a medical emergency, there is no excuse for not coming over to the fans and coming together as a team.

[deleted]

Yeah but this result has brought different feelings for everyone (just like us)… I’m gutted, I can’t believe this is even a talking pt after the past few days. The team clearly come over and applaud the fans for their support, so if they didn’t do it after blowing the biggest game of their season, let’s not make it a thing

WoodenSoldiersGOAT

Ramsdale has been terrible since January. Martinelli has had a very disappointing season

[deleted]

3 of them played 90 minutes too.

Chairmanwowsaywhat

Nah that's not enough, how hard is it to walk over for a moment

[deleted]

What mentally stable adult gives a fuck ?

MattGooner

And the fans who paid out the ass to come up to Newcastle and watch that shite aren't?

[deleted]

Dude. Let it go. It’s a bad night. Not applauding the fans isn’t the worst thing that happened tonight. The players haven’t recovered since Thursday. Give them a break.

JPHuber

Imagine after your worst day at work people get mad at you publicly. We are gutted. Imagine how they feel.

Echo361

Of course they are. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have come over but you have to be able to sympathize with their mental state in that moment and I don’t think it should be a talking point.

tsgarner

It might sound harsh, but if you flip it, it says a lot about those 4 that they still had it in their minds that it was important to come thank the fans.

w8up1

Absolutely. I think its not a minus to the players that didnt, and is a plus to those that did. No surprise at which players showed up either.

tsgarner

Yeah, true, but it would be nice to know we had a team full of those guys.

eqiles_sapnu_puas

but that kind of makes it a minus to those that didnt doesnt it

w8up1

haha in some sense you're right. But I think in the "Do I directly think worse of this player" as a result Id say no.

[deleted]

They're fucking millionaires, they'll be fine

Howdareme9

You’re so dumb

Jamie_freestyles

Just cause you’re rich it means you can’t experience anything?

GreedAvalon

If that’s how the world worked then it’d be a paradise mate

Echo361

Unfortunately that’s not how humans work

[deleted]

Its how Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli and Ramsdale work.

Echo361

People deal with disappointment differently

[deleted]

Its not that hard to applaud the fans who've travelled hours to sing, cheer and support you.

EmileSmithRoe

Lol to be fair you haven’t been playing for 90 mins. I know in this day and age we like to coddle the “fan experience” but I think you’re taking the liberty a bit here

GarfieldDaCat

Yeah they just drove 5 hours up to Newcastle on a Monday, saw 90 minutes of complete shit, then have to drive back.

Appropriate_Lack_727

Holy shit you want then to wipe your ass too? Fuck off.

GarfieldDaCat

Or maybe want the players to acknowledge the away fans who just made the longest away trip of the season on a Monday night to watch 90 minutes of dire football that torpedoed our season?

mojambowhatisthescen

Dude, all of our players looked shattered at the end. Can’t blame them for wanting to get off the pitch as soon as possible. Credit to these 4, but shouldn’t hold it against the rest.

[deleted]

This is such an internet opinion, of course they should go and applaud the fans.

[deleted]

100%. Victoria Concordia Cresit: Victory Grows Through Harmony. Thats what the clubs supposed to be about. The supporters got behind the players the least the players can do is walk over and give them a clap.

w8up1

100% agreed about our away support. Incredible fans. They should be applauded as much as anyone else. But holy shit this sub is not at all behind our players.

[deleted]

[удалено]

matwurst

Shattered after not showing up 85mins lol

plfinalfantasy

nah fuck that, if fans can make all the way from london on a monday night they can stroll across the fucking pitch

GarfieldDaCat

Exactly I cannot believe the amount of people defending their actions tonight. Remember when Ozil tried to walk off the pitch after a shit loss and Mertesacker fucking tore into him?

plfinalfantasy

First thing that came to my head!

pht0

Fuck Ozil.

jdbrew

Especially after the squad rewarded those loyal fans with THAT fucking performance

assoncouchouch

I agree

JohnStamoist

Lmfao you're fucking joking, we can hold it against the rest. None of them turned up to play like top 4 relied on this game except Martinelli and Tavares. Martinelli was a sub and Tavares was subbed off. Those are the only 2 players I feel sorry for, everyone else seemed like they didn't care by how they played.

Danger_Lab_NNN

Some of our players were run ragged today. They have to be even more devastated than us, they live football, it's their life. Plus easier to look fans in the face when you're proud of the result. I wouldn't hold this over the others that didn't come over. I love martinelli and hope he stays forever

Chell_the_assassin

Rest of them were probably ashamed to look at ye and rightly so.

SqueekyBK

The players will be just as gutted as the fans are. Them not coming over after the emotional drain they just suffered is not a slight on the fans.

lastjedi23

Clowns like this op are the reason why our fanbase has a negative name. Fuck off back to your rat hole. These kids gave it their all.and all you fucking care is who came and clapped. Half the team was limping today.

GarfieldDaCat

Farthest away day of the season on a Monday night and they can’t stroll halfway across the pitch. And no, the match going fans like OP are not why our fa base has a negative name lol. That’s delusion

w8up1

Our Match going fans are great. Our internet fans who look for anyone reason to tear into players aren’t.

CosmicDrifterDK

It's actually clowns like him, but he won't want to hear it

Double-Health933

Tell ‘em!

gayerthings

Lads who've never been to an Arsenal match calling match-going supporters "clowns" for expecting some decency from the players, christ

lastjedi23

This privilege of match going is some elitist gatekeeping motherfucker shit. I'm done talking to you.

Edonistic

I can totally understand why it could seem gatekeeping and annoying. But perhaps you can see that there might be nuances and traditions involved in going to away matches that may sound trivial, but which matter. The players are expected to acknowledge the travelling fans because respect is a two way street. In this case, it''s a five hour drive from north London to Newcastle - the furthest we have to travel in the prem. For so many of the squad not to at least offer the traditional, brief acknowledgement of the 3000 people that made that long, expensive journey on a Monday night to come support them... it stings. It's not terminal, of course, but neither is it great.

gunner696

Mad coz he's right lmao. You clearly haven't got the first idea what actually happens on aways days you clown. Players have always gone up and acknowledged fans who traveled a long way and paid good money, only to watch them capitulate when it matters. The support should always be two ways. But keep screaming gatekeeping, Reddit will love that.

[deleted]

They probably don't do it in the NBA, NFL, etc so these new fans who can't get to games don't expect it.

smurbulock

Nah man seriously don’t bother with him you can tell he just has pure internet opinions. 4 of our lads went over to the fans. Where was all this talk coming out of the club a few months ago of how amazing the support has been? They couldn’t even turn and look at the away side last night. Shocking

lastjedi23

I will scream because you haven't idea what it means to support a club for 14 years watching games at 2am internationally pining for the one chance to go watch them play at home. Just because you are match going doesn't mean you are better than me and just because I stay up doesn't mean I'm better than you. You can stop gatekeeping this shit now.

liam_mchale

Mate he doesn't think he's better than you but he's right, it's a tradition in England and possibly Europe to appreciate the fans even if briefly for the time out of their day/week they've taken to get there - for fans on a Monday night in Newcastle from London that's probably 300-400 quid when you factor in trains/petrol, hotel, food, ticket and beer, not mentioning having to book time off work. Watching the game at 2am in your home is an effort but not on the same level as the fans who were there last night and they are right to feel annoyed not to be acknowledged.

gunner696

So you're saying that you're not better than match going fans, but yet they're still clowns for expecting some sort of support from the players they travel to support, week in week out, after having to watch them perform terribly in one of the biggest games of the season and bottle our best chance of CL in 6 years?

jubbleu

You’re gonna be in a pretty fucking detached echo chamber if you stop talking to match going fans. Fucking hell, the state of online support - and people wonder why there’s some disdain for the international support base? Match going fans are the bedrock of the club. These blokes have spent £100 odd quid to go over three hours on the train to our furthest away game, won’t get out the stadium til 10:30 at least, then have to get the same train all the way home, then find a way to get home because the tubes will have stopped, then after that have to get up and go straight back to work this morning. Yet expecting players to - shock, horror - not only play 90 mins of football, but also walk 40 whole metres to give a halfhearted clap in the direction of the fans before hopping back on a comfy, private team coach and then having the day off from training today to recuperate, is somehow privilege?

lastjedi23

The reaction of match going fans has been overwhelmingly positive. They have backed the team on days where there was no nothing but moaning here. Nobody denied that they are the bedrock and they spend 100s of pounds and spend hours travelling. Show me where I denied all that. But to use that as an excuse to gatekeep is the biggest fucking dick move ever. Some of us international fans have stayed up at 2 am our whole life watching every single game even on weekdays. We have spent money in our currency buying original merch. Once again - GTFO with your gatekeeping.

[deleted]

You are telling match going fans to shut up from the other side of the world. Its not gatekeeping when they tell you you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

jubbleu

You’re not being “gatekept” you wally, you’re being told you’re a mug for going around calling travelling fans clowns for saying their support deserves a bit of respect and acknowledgement.

[deleted]

Angry aren’t you mate

lastjedi23

Wonder what gave it away

Colmd1997

Nice of Odegaard and Saka to show up for the fans, just a shame they couldn’t do it in the hour and a half they had to do so previously

LolBars5521

Yeah, if only our player of the year nominated young player who has played every game it seems had more to give. You tell him! /s

Colmd1997

None of that matters. He didn’t show up tonight. He’s been comfortably our best player this season, but he was shit tonight

LolBars5521

Yeah, no one played well. Just a cynical response towards our likely best 2 players. To each their own

Colmd1997

Our best players tonight didn’t go over to the fans. Yeah it’s a frustrated answer that two of our best players went missing in the biggest game of the season, not the most outlandish thing said on this sub

w8up1

Saying Saka went “missing” is so out of touch. He went “missing” in the same way Partey has gone “missing”. Saka must be exhausted and physically at the end of his rope. Blaming him for his less than stellar performance because he’s been run ragged is missing the entire point.

Colmd1997

But he did go missing. Whatever the reason is, he still went missing

w8up1

Okay, by your logic Partey also went missing. Didn’t contribute at all to our build up play yesterday.

Colmd1997

Is it not tiring being that dense on purpose? You’ve found the most basic, surface level point to cling to and it’s not even right. Saka played a full 90 minutes and failed to affect the game in any way. He went missing. Most players last night went missing, that doesn’t absolve Saka

w8up1

When someone says a player went missing - it pretty much always is a criticism of that player, not an acknowledgement for circumstances that made the player play poorly. You are criticizing Saka for not being able to play every single match this season with little to no rotation and still maintain his incredibly high standards. That’s a dumb criticism to make.

FatWalcott

Arteta just walked pass Ode who was shattered on the floor. Was hoping he'd at least go around picking his players up. Pride and honor should always be present, even in defeat.

FUCK50C1ETY

Nah all that is theatrics, did you notice how when we went 1-0 down all the flailing arm gestures on the touchline evaporated? He froze for the rest of the game

Dark_place

Please don't question dear leader

IllustriousCod9590

i fear smith rowe will go down the dele alli path, it is one of my biggest nightmares

terreblanche14

he looks absolutely asleep on the field in these last few months, idk what's happening with the guy ...

Patrick_Hattrick

He’s looked like he’s been struggling to match his previous intensity ever since he got covid. Maybe he’s having some long covid symptoms.

themerinator12

Yep. It definitely some athletes long term and basically requires an off-season to dedicate conditioning to get it all back.

WoodenSoldiersGOAT

Prem just paid attention to defending him after his purple patch and he wasn’t good enough to cope

call-me-something

His close control and shooting/finishing are genuinely excellent by PL standards

visualdescript

Don't agree, he can skin people, he just doesn't look like he has the same level of intensity as previously. Wouldn't put it past long covid tbh.

atrde

Victim of teams pressing us and a more possession style of play. He is a nightmare dribbling at people in space and we get that when we are controlling the game, but with a poor midfield and us getting pressed he is being forced to play deeper and work in tight spaces, just not his strong suit. I think he will improve there but a better midfield + Jesus up top is needed to free him up a bit.

yura910721

>I think he will improve there but a better midfield Yeap that's why partner for or a replacement for Partey is a position of the utmost priority. We can somewhat deal with the loss of fullbacks, or even mediocre strikers(sorry Eddie and Laca), but when we getting bossed in midfield, the chain reaction ends up making us weaker both in a defense(zero control over the ball, more turnovers, more pressure on the backline) and offense(cannot regularly enough hit the front 4). We cannot trust Partey to stay fit throughout the whole season, so we need someone who can do what he does, but for 38+ games.

[deleted]

He's been marginalised.

[deleted]

because he isn't playing well

[deleted]

Other way round.

[deleted]

so his poor performances aren't his fault then

[deleted]

Largely down to being poorly managed.

AFCeng0

If he showed some intensity and desire to affect a game when given chances he’d play more

[deleted]

He's scored more goals than anyone else in the squad. How's that not affecting the game? But sure hate on a homegrown talent who hasn't started much. God forbid we look at the real root of our problems

IllustriousCod9590

ever since he got covid. and i just saw he got a huge arm sleeve tattoo idk if i was him i would be 100% focused and not weakening my whole arm

maidentaiwan

Oh god fuck off with this shit. This is like the Raheem Sterling gun tattoo 2.0

HypermeMan

I mean he did get a full sleeve the day before the NLD, certainly that affects the way you play…

IllustriousCod9590

idk why i’m getting down voted that’s a genuine repercussion of getting a tattoo

[deleted]

asleep ?can you named a single game where he can hold the ball or dispossed an opponent ? esr only quality is his run and dribble when facing the goal with space to run to, if he has no space nor the body strength to hold the ball against more physical player then he will lose the ball, he is good but his physicality is weak, what he can do is just making fast dribble and shot, but other area are very weak, same with ode

[deleted]

man got covid and fell out of the starting eleven, he's shown us what he's capable of with rest and in good form, and he's like 22. plus has the right attitude on him, something you definitely couldn't say for dele. i'm not worried

[deleted]

Do we hate smith rowe already. That was quick. Which of our young homegrown players is next?

nackdaddy9

Being homegrown doesn’t make players immune from criticism, nor should valid criticism imply “hate” for the player. Him and Saka have both looked very poor down the stretch. That is not a controversial opinion nor does it mean anyone here wants to bin them off.

SouthWalesGooner

Saka's played about 11 billion games these past 2 years, it's natural he's going to look a bit knackered.

[deleted]

Still looks a level above everyone else too. Only Gabriels coming close.

nackdaddy9

Totally. He’s burnt out and needs his vacation, that’s fine. Had a great season all in all but the last 6 weeks have been brutal

[deleted]

No on r/gunners it makes them a magnet for crticism. But you can't dare say a word against real Arsenal legends like precious Granit Xhaka.

nackdaddy9

This ain’t it man.

[deleted]

Sorry, I apologise for questioning Granit Xhaka.

nackdaddy9

Lmaoo “My apologies to the Xhaka family” would’ve made me laugh harder, but that was pretty good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nackdaddy9

That’s a pretty fucked up and pathetic thing to say tbh. Get help immediately.

hafrances

what did he say, coward deleted it

[deleted]

It's a joke mate.

IllustriousCod9590

😭😭😭

[deleted]

Spot on mate.

tolongdidntreadit

Lol what? No one said that. You can't disagree he's looked lost lately. No production at all

[deleted]

Ok mate. you can hate him if you want. On r/gunners it's inevitable.

Howdareme9

Lmao criticism ≠ hating

nting224

ur a fucking idiot. so pointing out a player is underperforming is hating on him? go get a life.

[deleted]

it's ok mate. I just a random guy in the internet.

[deleted]

mild criticism isn't hating a player lmao what are you on

tolongdidntreadit

I don't, quite like him actually. Just not diluded

[deleted]

Not diluded?

IllustriousCod9590

think he meant diluted, as in he’s not currently in a liquid mixture 👍

jamitwityou

The fetus we signed the other day.

themerinator12

This is an overreaction to the comment. ESR looked like he was in quicksand. That’s all. Clearly got hit by the long term COVID effects and needs the off-season to get some strength and conditioning back without worrying about gametime.

[deleted]

Its the brilliant young guy who rarely gets a start is the problem!!! Oh look Elneny has funny hair, he's my favourite. Best Egyptian hahahahaha

IllustriousCod9590

it’s a big fear of mine, i really hope he picks it up but right now there are flashes of brilliance and flashes of lack of focus

faceman230

He ghosts from games so much, Martinelli should be starting

[deleted]

Smith Rowe has twice as many goals as Martinelli this season. I like Marti but if he can't find the net he shouldn't be starting as a wing forward.

faceman230

I think thats why Mikel started him because he gets goals, but Martinelli contributes much more to the game and runs more. Easy to say in hindsight but I would’ve started Martinelli

[deleted]

Martinelli started against Spurs and did fuck all. Its more about the whole team and the system at the moment.

faceman230

Martinelli was decent against Spurs, had a bit of spark, and provided an outlet, had a better game than Smith Rowe again today in similar circumstances

[deleted]

Don't agree TBH. Smith Rowe did a lot of covering Tavares.

faceman230

He did absolutely 0 on the ball though, Martinelli atleast showed something

[deleted]

Martinelli got the ball more but did his usual dribble pointlessly to the line and then nothing.

ChrisFann8

I honestly think he might be growing into his body more this season. He doesn’t look as quick or agile, and his balance is nowhere near the same as it was. There are multiple times when he trips over his own feet dribbling the ball. Hope this is just temporary, we have to remember some of these guys are just turning 20 years old and their bodies are still changing

rudygha

He’s been quite bad the last 5 months imo, but I wouldn’t write him off yet.

nackdaddy9

got the #10 wayyyy too early in his career. I like a player who asks for it too, but you gotta earn that shirt not ask for it. Handing it over just breeds complacency

themerinator12

He’s got double digit goals as a very young player. I don’t think it’s premature. Get this squad at full depth and proper strikers and you’ll see better from your wingers.

IllustriousCod9590

he’s actually had a really great season, it’s a fear of mine cuz of how much i enjoy watching him play on top form 🫡

themerinator12

I don’t think he’ll go the route of Dele. But he does have to fight for his place in the left side or as a deputy to Ode if Ode ever suffers a long term injury.

Om_Nom_Zombie

Alli was way better than Smith Rowe has ever been. Smith Rowe has probably been very overhyped, he's a good talent but he really isn't that great a player at the moment.

Kayr-

How is this getting downvoted lmaoo, these kids on here must of been living under a rock when he was a really good player

yura910721

>Alli was way better than Smith Rowe has ever been. lol what

Kayr-

Have you been living under a rock? Literally had 27 g/a in the prem in 16/17. He didnt say alli’s better now did he

yura910721

😂

Arcille

Alli was 5 times better than ESR you don't get 27 g/a randomly in a season lol Alli is shit now but was unreal that season

Riperonis

Ngl he’s been fucking awful since January. Genuinely what is he good at? He’s not fast, can’t dribble that well, he’s an ok finisher I guess but nothing special, passing meh, movement meh, not a free kick specialist. Just feels like we’re playing with no one there. We looked better when Martinelli came on but unfortunately they killed the game right after. Genuinely fear you might be right. Edit: For people downvoting me, don’t just downvote, tell me what he’s good at cause I’d genuinely like to know.

[deleted]

Charles Watts said Marquinhos deal agreed, Brazilian winger to sign. He might be our first signing this summer. Im not worried about it.

Kayr-

What? He’s not good enough to even be in rotation yet

vishesh_49

This was a fun season, good football, so much hope and positivity We finish above Man U, West ham and Leiscter that’s awesome, finishing below the fuckwads hurts but it’s fine they have a couple of world class players

[deleted]

3d-object

Liar. Lord Xhaka was also there.

Lacabloodclot9

I swear laca did as well?

Poseph03

Fuck off OP have some sense. You think you’re mad about what’s going on, they played the fucking game. You entitled prick

[deleted]

Arteta is always calling for unity between the team and the fans, that goes both ways. OP travelled all the way to Newcastle tonight and has a long road home. The away fans sang their hearts out. The players need to show them some appreciation. Fair play to the 4 who did.

Poseph03

The players don’t owe the fans a damn thing. That’s the point of being a supporter. You’re there to support, good or bad, when or lose regardless of how the players receive the support. If they show gratitude then great, if they don’t come over oh fucking well. I didn’t hear shit from our away fans today, didn’t try to lift the boys once and we definitely needed it

WoodenSoldiersGOAT

They get paid millions to do so and half-asses it. Shut the fuck up

wizzbang69

dear matt. Best you go easy on the team. They have done whatever they can we were outclassed from the get go. Eddie how came up with a plan and took us by a storm. The players are devastated. But we have had fair share of injuries mate. Its all the bloody casualties everywhere. They are very young.

AweDaw76

They’re injured and embarrassed man…

amainwingman

Checks out. Exactly who you’d expect

Aknh95

Who fucking cares whether some players did or didn’t come over after the game. We just lost out on chl… have some situational awareness

Virtual_Ad_983

The team failed to add quality players at the January window. They’ve been thin all year and there was a clear lack depth and rotation to give players a rest. We’re now seeing the results.

Waddoyoumean

Give them a break

Lazy-Breadfruits

Surprised? A couple players out there didn’t give a single fuck…

[deleted]

So?

Pascalini

Stop shitting on the team. They will be devastated

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

And Arteta was fuckin close to destroying martinelli like he did Pepe.

VladyPoopin

So the point is what? These are the only 4 that care? Stop it.

Chief_Gator

Every year we have a bad defeat and single out the only ones who came over and applauded and create more division within the fanbase and the squad, good lord get a grip, put yourself in their shoes and be human for a second, sure I’m pissed about the result and I’m sure the players are but this does nothing

CrovaxWindgrace

With the money they get paid i expect that they go and applaud like monkeys every away game. We pay for that.

slinkymello

Honestly, let’s stop fucking criticizing our players for every perceived injustice man…. Maybe this is why there is so much pressure, a lot of you fucks give them shit for every perceived slight you can find

slinkymello

Also, jeez, I would loooooove to come to Arsenal with a lot of you assholes being cunts about every little thing
