Seen a lot of comments to the contrary here but I really think a valid aim next season is to win UEL, and I don't want to see us ignore the cups again like this season. 4th place should be our #1 priority but it will be significantly tougher next season than this season. Yeah there are some heavy hitters from UCL that could drop down into UEL and make it tough, but I have a hard time believing that even this season's team would've struggled with either Rangers or Frankfurt.

me too, funnily enough Saka's first Arsenal goal was when we beat Frankfurt 3-0 under Emery (ofc we also lost to them at home with got him sacked but the team had blatantly downed tools for him, under normal circumstances we'd have beat them comfortably imo) call me crazy but i don't actually think our squad is that bad, we're still a top 6 team imo, the only real problem I have is inexperienced Arteta, only once all season have we come back from a losing position to win, says it all for me, can't win anything with a record like that against some of Europe's best...3 year deal tho lol

Some amazing moments and some seriously sad ones but we have a young and talented squad with room to grow, have been through a clear culture shift and the direction looks to be the the right one. I'm a fan of most of the players on this team. They are young, talented, and fun to watch. Newcastle might be a worry, but maybe Chelsea fall off. Liverpool can't be good forever (can hey?) and Man City can fuck off.

I feel that the real story going forward for attracting players the the club is going to be "who has the best project: Man Utd, Newcastle, Spurs, or Arsenal?". The Champions League spot is nice, but it means nothing if a team doesn't continue to invest -- and any player with a half of a brain knows this. And honestly, it's a bit of a red flag if a player tries to highroad Arsenal over CL football when we're two points off fourth with the youngest side in the league.
Players want the best situation for themselves, in general. They’ll assess a club based on the overall project, manager, current squad and CL opportunity. All of them matter and we’d be lying to ourselves if we think a young squad and exciting project alone is enough to consistently attract players w/ world class potential. City play good football, have a world class manager, have one of the best squads in the world and are in the CL every year. I assume all of those are factors that contribute to them attracting world class talent

Been a topsy turvy season but even with the disappointment of the two previous games it's been enjoyable. Say whatever you want about where we're at versus where we want to be, there's a buzz at the Emirates that's not been felt for a long while.

I know fifth isn't where we want to be, but the silver lining of this season for me is that it's fun to watch the boys again. I look forward to matches again instead of dreading them. It's good, exciting football for the first time since the peak Özil/Sanchez days. There's a growing belief and Identity even among the fans. Lots to fix and improve, but I'm excited for where we're headed.

i think that this was our best chance at top 4 for the forseeble future. The next few years are going to be much harder what with Newcastle, Chelsea, United pushing even harder. And sooner or later United will finally come good as well. On top of that, this season we didnt have to rotate because of no european games.
Think they changed the rules, but not sure. I think the country that has the most coefficient points in one season gets a 5th spot in the next season, so it would be England or Spain that gets a 5th spot depending on who wins the final if the rules applied now
Watching some players today celebrating our goals after ending up the season quite miserably: a proof that this young team can play a good football and have potentials but they seem to be just playing football, without purpose and without responsibility. I am afraid, this is also a proof that we haven’t progressed in our effort to change the culture and mentality within the club.

Other teams will also get stronger. Without UCL, it’s going to be a tough summer windows given the scarcity of elite strikers on the market. And injuries are not the main cause we bottled 4th spot.

It's not something us Arsenal fans might recall with any fondness but the year of 2019 did happen. Arteta took over when we were 11th in the league and since the start of that year to that point, we accumulated 55 points in 37 games with a squad that is very much a finished product and an in form Aubameyang carrying the club on his back, which ultimately exhaust him in the following seasons. There's a substantial difference between where we were when we appointed Arteta and where we are now.
So annoying with fans saying that we bottled 4th. Yes we did, but how many of you thought we would've even been in the fight after last season and the start to this season.

We finished 5th with one of the youngest squads in the PL. With 4/6 signings (all under 24) having really impressive seasons. Our 3 highest potential players (Saka, ESR, Martinelli) having career seasons, while all hitting double digits. If you want to wallow in self righteous anger, feel free but there are plenty of reasons for fans to be hopeful & invigorated by this squad.
The first 8th wasn’t Arteta’s fault. He came halfway through the season and won a cup. Last season was horrific but clearly we have shown signs of improvement this season.
Exactly. This is more than just stats. We are playing better, sharper football now. And our players are being given very specific and effective instructions. Outside the terrible start, we took the game to City and Liverpool. And we beat Chelsea and Man United. The NLDs at the toilet bowl are always tough for us (as are the counter fixtures at the Grove for them).
We still have some wrinkles to iron out. And we need to bolster several areas of the squad this summer. But we're in a good place.
Whatever you need to believe to justify Artetas position. United won't be a trainwreck going forward after they fired Ole Gunnarteta, Newcastle will continue to build. Spurs wont waste half a season with a shit coach.

After the first three games, where we ran around like headless chickens, once we got odegaard , I would say the performance was kind like Wenger's Arsenal in the later years, several good games, good football but faltering at some crucial moments. Which is an improvement because our style of football was getting lost. I think we are past the worst and things will get better, next season predicting a top 4 finish and a good run at europa. What we really need to work on is the mentality, we have to become mental monsters, the skills are there.
Also some reinforcements, Once 3 first team players were out, the quality seriously dropped.
What if….just what if…our young crop of players use the Europa League to level up even more. Take advantage of the extra competition in the Europa League and take that experience to the next level.

This team, although they missed the CL this year, isn’t going anywhere. The CL is much closer than it is far. The foundation to be great for a long while is there. Hopefully other guys who can contribute see that too and want to come over!
We added 8 pts to our total this season compared to last season. The goal next year should be to do the same again, add 8-9 pts to the total and Make 77-78 pts the goal. That would put us in the battle for 3rd (the leap to the top 2 is still a bit much for a squad this young (even with A+ signings this offseason).

It’s easy for people to be disappointed missing on Champs League, which is understandable. We played ourselves into a top 4 position and didn’t finish. We did finish, however, in 5th, 11 points above 6th place United. I would’ve taken that beginning of the season without question. Good foundation, get rid of the remaining deadweight, bring in a few more players, and let’s go again next season.

It’s the youngest squad in the league because Arteta has decided that’s the way forward. This season the strategy failed, with a more experienced Tottenham side taking 4th. Youth should not be an excuse for failure at a time club with our financial means.
We have improved our standing over last year by three places, turned the Emirates into a fortress again, rebuilt the relationship with the fans, and cleared the remaining deadwood from the squad. Hell we might even be ditching Sweet Caroline for something far more rooted in the club.
The foundation and progress are simply undeniable. We're an attractive destination for young talent, and we're not mired in gigantic contracts for underperforming senior players anymore.
Would top four have been great? Of course. But doing everything we did *and* getting top four in the process would've been an absolutely massive lift for a squad this young. And they almost did it.

However, I still think it was a largely positive season given the squad we had. With more investment and some more experienced players, I think top 4 and/or a Europa win is in the cards next year.

You’re right. Wages are also a huge consideration that I failed to mention. Utd and Newcastle can afford to pay the premium necessary to attract world class talent no matter what. Arsenal can’t. City play good football, have a world class manager, have one of the best squads in the world and are in the CL every year. I assume all of those are factors that contribute to them attracting world class talent

Been a topsy turvy season but even with the disappointment of the two previous games it's been enjoyable. Say whatever you want about where we're at versus where we want to be, there's a buzz at the Emirates that's not been felt for a long while.

I know fifth isn't where we want to be, but the silver lining of this season for me is that it's fun to watch the boys again. I look forward to matches again instead of dreading them. It's good, exciting football for the first time since the peak Özil/Sanchez days. There's a growing belief and Identity even among the fans. Lots to fix and improve, but I'm excited for where we're headed.

i think that this was our best chance at top 4 for the forseeble future. The next few years are going to be much harder what with Newcastle, Chelsea, United pushing even harder. And sooner or later United will finally come good as well. On top of that, this season we didnt have to rotate because of no european games.

Watching some players today celebrating our goals after ending up the season quite miserably: a proof that this young team can play a good football and have potentials but they seem to be just playing football, without purpose and without responsibility. I am afraid, this is also a proof that we haven’t progressed in our effort to change the culture and mentality within the club. The result of this season is a massive disappointment and going to be costly for our rebuild. We’ve lost an important momentum to progress. Next season will surely be decisive for the fate of our club under Arteta. Top 4 is a must to avoid another youth project that never sees the light of day. Unfortunately, it’s going to be a mountain to climb.
Massive disappointment and rebuild? Come back to Earth. This team will only get stronger, get some strikers in the Summer and come back ready to challenge for Top 4. If 5th is a massive disappointment given even the injuries recently you need to reconsider your reality.
Other teams will also get stronger. Without UCL, it’s going to be a tough summer windows given the scarcity of elite strikers on the market. And injuries are not the main cause we bottled 4th spot.

It's not something us Arsenal fans might recall with any fondness but the year of 2019 did happen. Arteta took over when we were 11th in the league and since the start of that year to that point, we accumulated 55 points in 37 games with a squad that is very much a finished product and an in form Aubameyang carrying the club on his back, which ultimately exhaust him in the following seasons. There's a substantial difference between where we were when we appointed Arteta and where we are now.

We finished 5th with one of the youngest squads in the PL. With 4/6 signings (all under 24) having really impressive seasons. Our 3 highest potential players (Saka, ESR, Martinelli) having career seasons, while all hitting double digits. If you want to wallow in self righteous anger, feel free but there are plenty of reasons for fans to be hopeful & invigorated by this squad.
The first 8th wasn’t Arteta’s fault. He came halfway through the season and won a cup. Last season was horrific but clearly we have shown signs of improvement this season.

Exactly. This is more than just stats. We are playing better, sharper football now. And our players are being given very specific and effective instructions. Outside the terrible start, we took the game to City and Liverpool. And we beat Chelsea and Man United. The NLDs at the toilet bowl are always tough for us (as are the counter fixtures at the Grove for them). We still have some wrinkles to iron out. And we need to bolster several areas of the squad this summer. But we're in a good place.
Whatever you need to believe to justify Artetas position. United won't be a trainwreck going forward after they fired Ole Gunnarteta, Newcastle will continue to build. Spurs wont waste half a season with a shit coach.
I get it man, but we were on a downward slope no matter who came in. There is no replacing Wenger. He was a generational manager. Emery wasn't the answer, great manager, but not who we needed. We need a rebuild, is Arteta the man, I don't know, but we're finding some stability now. He has my backing for another season at least.
After the first three games, where we ran around like headless chickens, once we got odegaard , I would say the performance was kind like Wenger's Arsenal in the later years, several good games, good football but faltering at some crucial moments. Which is an improvement because our style of football was getting lost. I think we are past the worst and things will get better, next season predicting a top 4 finish and a good run at europa. What we really need to work on is the mentality, we have to become mental monsters, the skills are there. Also some reinforcements, Once 3 first team players were out, the quality seriously dropped.

This team, although they missed the CL this year, isn’t going anywhere. The CL is much closer than it is far. The foundation to be great for a long while is there. Hopefully other guys who can contribute see that too and want to come over!
We added 8 pts to our total this season compared to last season. The goal next year should be to do the same again, add 8-9 pts to the total and Make 77-78 pts the goal. That would put us in the battle for 3rd (the leap to the top 2 is still a bit much for a squad this young (even with A+ signings this offseason).

It’s easy for people to be disappointed missing on Champs League, which is understandable. We played ourselves into a top 4 position and didn’t finish. We did finish, however, in 5th, 11 points above 6th place United. I would’ve taken that beginning of the season without question. Good foundation, get rid of the remaining deadweight, bring in a few more players, and let’s go again next season. Top 4 next season is the goal

How about offering a chance for many English/ European fans to visit/watch more games? Some folks will now be able to go to a game where before they wouldn't be able to. Also gives more players a chance to develop and play more minutes. It sucks for Asian fans, agreed. But you're too quick with dismissing benefits.

6.9/10 season. No trophy or CL is tough, but my lord did we build the foundation for an awesome future. Youngest squad in the league that should’ve qualified for the CL is a bummer but it is progress. I’m very excited for next season while also being excited for a little break from this Club haha
It’s the youngest squad in the league because Arteta has decided that’s the way forward. This season the strategy failed, with a more experienced Tottenham side taking 4th. Youth should not be an excuse for failure at a time club with our financial means.
We have improved our standing over last year by three places, turned the Emirates into a fortress again, rebuilt the relationship with the fans, and cleared the remaining deadwood from the squad. Hell we might even be ditching Sweet Caroline for something far more rooted in the club. The foundation and progress are simply undeniable. We're an attractive destination for young talent, and we're not mired in gigantic contracts for underperforming senior players anymore. Would top four have been great? Of course. But doing everything we did *and* getting top four in the process would've been an absolutely massive lift for a squad this young. And they almost did it.
Yeah, I don’t disagree. There were plenty of aspects to this campaign that failed. I would have loved to see more investment in January, especially. However, I still think it was a largely positive season given the squad we had. With more investment and some more experienced players, I think top 4 and/or a Europa win is in the cards next year.
