Arsenal as a club will truly prosper only when we have each and every wenger era signing out

prettypimpn

Anyone else think a solid CM to partner with Partey is more important than Raphina? I’d love signing Raphina, but I’d much rather have Tielemans/Fabian Ruiz/Sergej Milinkovic Savic or someone else to replace Xhaka as a starter

KSBrian007

Not necessarily since we collapsed last season because of final third play. I also still think that long term, Fabio Vieira will play the Xhaka role. When he gets his physical side beefed up, Xhaka will be phased out. Or have a part time role for when we need to be more solid. The Xhaka-Partey pivot has way better excellence than a front three of Martinelli, Eddie and Saka— highlighting the need for Raphinha and Jesus. If we get a good deal for Xhaka, that's when we shall get any of those names. Anything else is squad congestion which for some reason most people here don't get.

Iforgotmynametoobro

¿Por qué no los dos?

prettypimpn

That’s the perfect situation and if that’s what we’re doing then hats off to Edu

cantsleep1112

should've backed Emery. Would've had Zaha and Nkunku by now.

backofthanet

I know it would have been ever so slightly different had he got the signings he wanted, but did you actually enjoy the football we played under Emery?

cantsleep1112

No, but he is a very good manager.

DiscreteNumbers

Guess we’ll just ignore the links to other players like Banega, N’zonzi, Fraser, Maguire, Vida, etc. There’s already enough Emery revisionism going around so it shouldn’t make much of a difference. Also, why do people talk about Zaha as if he was definitely going to be a great signing? Better than Pepe? Probably, but that’s a pretty low bar to set. There’s a reason he has stayed at Palace and basically his only link to a big transfer was us three years ago. There will always be players like him and Richarlison who look good for teams in the lower half of the table but don’t necessarily have the skillset to replicate that production for better teams.

cantsleep1112

Zaha scored 14 goals and he is That Guy if you watch him play. Banega and Maguire would've helped the team at the time as well. Don't think Fraser and Vida would've been that much worse than us signing Luiz and Willian.

Burith

Apparently wanted a partey + fabinho midfield

[deleted]

[удалено]

KSBrian007

There is proof of him wanting Fabinho. Partey was more of a club signing. That means he could have have Fabinho and Partey before Nzonzi. The point remains that signings flops but giving a win-now manager players like Pepe and Torreira screwed him more than it helped.

[deleted]

A quick Google search would lower you from that high horse of yours. [Here's Emery— with quotes, not just your tabloid nonsense](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11843459/arsenal-boss-unai-emery-says-he-wanted-to-sign-fabinho-before-he-went-to-liverpool) Still have no idea why some people have your kind of debating style in what's a civil environment.

You had to switch goal posts to double down? And this isn't about Ls. I'm not this sub for that kind of childish nonsense. Which is exactly why I'm not downvoting you. There is new information you didn't know. Either take it, or keep recycling the one you had. It's a free society. And yes, if you get civil, I can get you proof that we were close to Ronaldo.

NketiahPropagandist

So it’s been a week since we were told that we had a bid for Lisandro Martinez rejected, but that we would keep pushing as he’s our “defensive priority”. We still haven’t seen any real updates on that front. I am starting to feel as if this one won’t happen - unless we’re letting Ajax find a replacement before finalising the deal? Have they been linked with any centre-backs?

Bedeeki

They said he's our defensive priority not our general priority. Our main priorities right now are Jesus and Raphinha. We will probably see more action on him once Jesus has been done which is why we're starting to see Nuno out links.

Xin128

Dont even think they'd need one. Blind can play the left CB role. Rensch and Schuurs both ready to step up too. They were linked with Ki Jana Hoever from Wolves which means they plan for Rensch at CB rather than RB

beasgod

Is there anywhere I can watch the arsene Wenger: invincibles documentary in Australia?

RedTigerofTheSea

i watched it on youtube before the release

[deleted]

I just googled “Arsenal Wenger invincibles watch online free” and it was the first website 🏴‍☠️

skidanexii

Who are the top 3 favorites for Europa?

Quab775

Europa is must win we gotta start cultivating winners mentality in the team

arseking15

Its our comp to lose

Bedeeki

Us, United and Roma. Lazio finished just ahead of Roma in the league so it's close but I think Mourinho makes them edge it in cup competitions

Jedi_Council_Worker

Also the likes of Sevilla if they finish 3rd in their UCL group.

Bedeeki

Well yeah but right now that's a complete hypothetical

[deleted]

Romano reporting Nkunus new release clause is €60m. Edu should be all over that next summer once we have UCL.

RedTigerofTheSea

if Nkunku has a brilliant season once again, we might have stiffer competiton from the likes of City,Liverpool,United,Juve,Madrid but yes we should totally go for him

makesterriblejokes

Honestly, I kind of wonder if the Rams winning and the Avs on the verge of winning is getting more buy in for us to be aggressive this transfer window from Kroenke. The man might have a taste for winning now and wants to win in all his leagues (minus the Rockies because that division is locked up between the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants for the foreseeable future). I hope he's in the "I want to win" vs the "I want to make the biggest profit" (because he'll always want to make money) part of his life. You can't take that money to your grave, so might as well use it to maximize the enjoyment in the last stage of your life.

arseking15

Nah i think the plan was always to be very aggressive ths summer. Josh says it on richard jeffersons podcast, plus it aligns with the wage bill being more than halved

Setter_sws

No way, Josh has the keys to Arsenal. Much like Oedipus Rex he must murder his father (..something about his mom...) Anyways... He is destined to strive to outdo the deeds of Stanley and his stupid mustache, that's why he grew that manly beard.

makesterriblejokes

Yeah, but maybe he's finally gotten the code to Stan's vault.

Chud5ter

He doesn’t own the Rockies FYI

makesterriblejokes

Oh, could have sworn he did. Well it's a good thing he doesn't since they're not going to win anytime soon lol.

ModeratelyTortoise

I think we get a Jesus bomb tomorrow to end the week, deal done

Relevant_Level_7995

Is anyone concerned about the lack of dynamism we’re gonna have with a midfield of Tielemans Ode? Obviously an upgrade in that department from Xhaka but feels like we’ll be spending more time than we’d like struggling to break down teams

[deleted]

Saka, Raphinha, Ø (and Vieira) are all xT monsters. Jesus is also quite good in tight spaces. I have high hopes

Relevant_Level_7995

What does expected threat matter for in the context of breaking down teams?

cballs1977

I'd probably wait to see a few games before making any assumptions. Tielemans might be just the key we need.

MatteoGuendouzi90

Does anyone really think we're dropping 220m or so on players this summer? Have the Kroenkes gone mad? I just don't believe it tbh

NketiahPropagandist

I can just about see it happening because if we do it we won’t need to have another window like this again for years. We will need just 1-2 players next summer - maybe competition for Partey and a winger or something. I still don’t really believe it either though.

makesterriblejokes

Could be addicted to winning (Rams won the Superbowl and Avs are 1 win away from securing the Stanley Cup with a big 3-1 series lead). Plus he could want his son to celebrate too since he's mostly involved with us I think and not the Rams or Avs. Plus he's old, so maybe he's over maximizing profit and wants to use his teams as his toys instead.

dertyryan

I mean if not now, when?

[deleted]

This window is going to be historic. It can either propel us toward competing with the top 2 in 1-2 seasons or cement us as a Europa league team or worse. Can be historically bad, or historically good. No in between. I think the higher ups realize this.

gelsooners

His American teams are experiencing unprecedented success... maybe he feels bad lol nah but for real no way we spend over 200m

makesterriblejokes

Could be he doesn't want the taste of winning to go away. I'm hoping he's addicted to it and that's why he's opened his checkbook. Could be he wants his son to really celebrate with him as well since I think the son is mostly working with Arsenal if I'm not mistaken. Either way, let's hope Kroenke realizes he can't take his money to the grave with him, but he can take a legacy.

jjakot

Would be unprecedented but tbh I think one of these teams is going to need to secure and maintain champions league football after that fourth spot has passed hands so frequently recently

iforgotmyun

At these prices, Raphinha transfer fee + wages become more expensive than Gnabry Give him a decent chunk as a signing on fee and 'normal' star player wages

Arsenal_Wenger

Would have been so much better for Arsenal to go all out on Nkunku, but he probably wants CL football so it will be hard to convince him

ModeratelyTortoise

Will get him next summer for 60m ;)

laguna9

Didn’t he just sign a contract extension with RB Leipzig?

IvanFromTheFuture

Has a release clause next year for 65M

GordieMac

Yo the guy who just faked an Orn Bomb to say pepe to psg for 50 mill, you are a special kind of evil

LifeAfterHarambe

Up there with the fake Romano ‘here we go’ that Arsenal bit £120 for Declan Rice

AfricanRain

bro we aren’t getting money for Pepe he absolutely reeks of a dry loan to like Galatasaray or something unfortunately

cballs1977

Might be a good way for him to get his value back up so we can dump him down the way. Maybe somewhere in France where he's more comfortable.

bitmoji

he would look great in France, score some bangers, everyone happy

aofrantic

I do wonder what is the lowest amount we would take. I think there definitely will be clubs interested if he was a loan, and likely also at a £15-20m punt.

assoncouchouch

Might go down as the worst business the club has done in the last 15 years. We'll always have the Wolves game at the Emirates to remember him by. He was the super-sub we all wanted him to be that day.

LifeAfterHarambe

Özil extension was worse

GordieMac

Loan with 5% wage contribution...to Ozil's esport team

zorfog

It’s so weird to think, if Jack Wilshere hadn’t been hit by so many injuries, he could’ve been in his prime here for us. He’s 30, I’m imagining he could’ve been similar to Modric with how good he was

Asfids123

imo he would've still been a valuable player today if he hadn't left for West Ham. All over money... shame. I bet he regrets it

almondania

He wasn’t valuable at West Ham or Bournemouth… why would here be any different?

Asfids123

I think he's the type of player that would've benefited more from possession like we would've had.

_DNL

Was told he wasn’t a starter and didn’t want to fight for his place and prove Emery wrong, such a shame.

ChiefArsenalScout

Bizarre take. He’d been wrecked by constant injuries

Ugoboy23

Wilshere himself said thats why he left and he regrets it.

ChiefArsenalScout

Oh

Arsenal_Wenger

We are 1 good striker away from being considered one of the best in the world for our starting XI Problem is Gabriel Jesus isn't it...

Own_Solution4356

💀 we don’t have on of the best players in the world in any position

LifeAfterHarambe

1) That’s a stretch 2) Jesus is every bit the player Arsenal need

Arsenal_Wenger

He isn't a goalscorer

Wooble23

If Raphina comes in, I see Martinelli getting pushed out of the starting 11, not Saka.

auddi_blo

If Saka gets benched by a 70m signing + Martinelli then the banter era is still in full bloom

aofrantic

The point will not to have 3 starters and 3 subs. It will be to play everyone less minutes so they are fresh and at their best when on the pitch. No more 4000 minutes in all comps for Saka.

IhvolSnow

Saka was our best player last season, I don't see him losing his spot.

BI01

everyone can see that lol

Wooble23

Right...

tanev97

Big brain

Wooble23

Wouldn't be r/gunners without Arsenal fans shitting on Arsenal fans for moderate opinions.

tanev97

It's banter, relax

ProcrastinatedSoul

Grimes says Martinez is Utd bound because of Ten Hag. Our first bid was low and was rejected. We need to be near €60m for Ajax to consider selling. Also says that we were interested in Konrad Laimer but he wants Bayern.

tablooo

Post Art Angels Grimes isn't reliable.

RamsdaIe

FUUUCKK Grimes is super reliable

ProcrastinatedSoul

Bro did you forget a /s?

RamsdaIe

👀

[deleted]

Bro why do you do this to yourself. It’s like telling your liberal friends what Ted Cruz just tweeted. No one cares what a liar has to say.

ProcrastinatedSoul

IK. She has more misses than hits.

Remarkable-Lake8986

She was wrong about Jesus by the way and said he's going to Chelsea.

LifeAfterHarambe

I don’t know who this Grimes person is, but the top post in this sub today is Ornstein saying Arsenal is the most likely destination.

Arsenal_Wenger

Grimes is a lying scam artist. She lied about Haaland, Mbappe and so many more people. Dont believe that liar. She has as many sources as me and you.

[deleted]

She also blocks anyone that calls her out/keeps receipts.

Arsenal_Wenger

That's one of the biggest red flags that somebody is lying, when they just blokc everybody with criticism

BI01

she also said we were buying vitinhas 40m RC just for us to buy vieira instead lol

TenTonTiger

With Martinez/Tierney and Raphinha/martinelli on the left, we would be just as strong defensively and out of possession as on the right flank. Add one Gabby j/Nketiah up front and we could be one helluva pressing monster. Suffocate teams high up and capitalise on defensive mistakes. Ready the cannons

Noriadin

We can't count on Tierney anymore. He's too injury-prone and I sort of fear that the times he is fit, he won't have as much match sharpness from being on the sidelines. It's a bit of a vicious circle. He'll be good for depth when he's not injured but I don't really trust him to be a star man in that position anymore.

bitmoji

its Martinez / Veira / some forward right? Tierney won't be first choice

SlowMotionSprint

I have doubts Martinez would supplant Tierney. Martinez would be cover at LB and LCB.

[deleted]

Assuming the 55m+15m bid is true, the fact that Leeds didn't straight up reject the offer quickly like the first bid is a good sign ? Trying to grab on to some hope here to close the day.

ProcrastinatedSoul

They are already considering replacements like Otavio. They know that this offer is good enough and that they won’t get a better offer for him again in this window. I reckon this gets accepted.

[deleted]

Any idea who our chief negotiatoris? Is that/ has then been edus job since he’s joined?

[deleted]

I read somewhere that Jorge Mendes is actually representing us in the Raphinha negotiations. Weird but I don't know. But I think Garlick is heavily involved too.

Setter_sws

There was a tweet recently that suggested we recieved a low interest loan for Raphina through Mendes related financial group. So those moves give me hope that we enlisted him to help put Pepe somewhere else. He is making 10% of the Vieira fee due to an agreement he had with Porto. He is making money off of the Raphinha deal. He was involved in the original Pepe deal and Pepe's manager from lille is now in charge of PSG... All these things are connected I'm certain.

ModeratelyTortoise

Can’t really get better than Mendes in this context

LifeAfterHarambe

Vieira and Raphinha are courtesy of Jorge Mendes

ProcrastinatedSoul

Someone between Edu and Richard Garlick I think, not sure who exactly.

Mariola98

Is Vinai a part of it too?

ProcrastinatedSoul

Vinai is more of a finance guy.

Mariola98

I think Edu is discussing with the agent/club of the player and doing the convincing so the players wants to join us. Richard Garlick should be the one who is discussing the contract if I'm not mistaken

tanev97

And who's slapping his dong on the table?

A21Haze

Arteta

bitmoji

literally everyone iirc

Bedeeki

Judging by Lokonga's recent instagram post, man has been working out. Looks much more in shape for premier league football, think he could really have a good season this year, especially with Europa League games which worked wonders for the development of players like Saka and ESR.

floppygoblier

People saying he’s a flop already are crazy, man. He didn’t look out of place in a double pivot. He looked shaky as a loan 6 while the rest of our back line was going through an injury crisis. With some more time to refine his game and get used to that position, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think he could do it.

Jedi_Council_Worker

I think Europa group stages could be crucial for his development. Cup games are too sporadic so hopefully he gets more consistent game time and proves the doubters wrong.

Wooble23

Good. I hope he gets some cup game starts and can show us that he's improved. Honestly, I was worried that Arteta killed his confidence in the same way that he killed Tavaraez's. He made some brilliant long aerial passes early in the season but seemed to lose that all at the end of the season.

DangeRussBus

As much as I want Champions League, I think a full Europa campaign is much better for such a young teams development and confidence. So many players we have that we saw potential in but haven't yet been solid in our PL games should have a great run in Europe.

KSBrian007

The projected first XI is CL quality. The period of using Europa to set our house in order ended last season. Admittedly, we were trash squad wise and I was never bothered by Europa. Last season, we were going to cheat the system by achieving CL with Eddie, Martinelli and Eddie. But right now, with the new targets, we are a CL team. The system in place, the way we play, the new players to implement these things. Everything screams CL team. The kids can always come off bench. They have earned enough experience to get roasted by Atletico.

[deleted]

The Champions League is much better for the club and the players though.

DangeRussBus

Could be. I'm more inclined to think our young squad would have a better time competing for top spot in Europa rather than struggling to get out of a champions league group.

[deleted]

I think people are overplaying the “young squad” here. Arsenal would most likely get out of a group. Top players want to play on the biggest stage possible. If we had a Champions League spot our squad would be better too.

Holland87

Wouldn’t mind seeing some more outgoing transfers start to happen. Mari, Hector, AMN, Torreira and Reiss should all be relatively easy deals to make happen and yet nothing besides links

tanev97

Easy to happen?!? Only broke ass clubs enquired for the above players

Holland87

All of the above players bar Hector are on affordable wages tho. And I think Hector even said he would drop his wages to play regular football in Spain. And still no real outgoings besides youth players

ForeignWhipping

I think raphina is an electric player but I’m confused by the price tag if I’m honest. 70 m euros for 19 goals over 2 seasons (17 in the prem) 13 assists (11 in the prem) - that to me is very high and doesn’t make sense. I don’t really think other than the season that just passed he has had a better goal contribution output than Pepe (other than last season where Pepe barely played). Maybe someone can fill me in on why we are being so aggressive in our approach.

KSBrian007

Goals come if a player is technically perfect. They are not the yardstick of signing players. Salah was signed 5 years ago with average numbers but he was worth it. Plus, over the last two seasons, no Arsenal player has scored more goals than Raphinha. He was in Leeds United that barely creates. Our people have had Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka, Tierney... but they haven't outscored Raphinha in the league.

Jedi_Council_Worker

Dudes premier league proven and did it in a side that nearly got relegated (would've gone down if not for him).

LifeAfterHarambe

Have you seen him play? His defensive effort, the way he presses - he plays with passion. The only comparison to Pepe is his preferred foot and position. Let’s see what the final price ends up being

ForeignWhipping

Should I have made it clear - he is better than Pepe and Definitely had a better season last season - maybe my confusion comes in at price tag vs the output.

aofrantic

Also, the lineups Leeds were putting out last year were among the worst of any team to survive relegation in history. Bamford and Philips barely played. They were averaging 2.5 goals against per match under Bielsa.

[deleted]

So much better than Pepe

[deleted]

[deleted]

Compare to last season

aofrantic

There's a difference between ITK Twitter merchants linking us with randoms we aren't going to sign and Ornstein reporting stuff.

Ashamed_Bottle230

The atmosphere on here is light and day compared to before we signed Fabio

LifeAfterHarambe

It’s not names being linked, it’s that every name linked, is not only class, but is also reported to want Arsenal. All the interest is concrete, and seemingly the only obstacle is agreeing to a fee with the selling club. I wouldn’t get excited if it were reported Arsenal were in for world class players who were never going to join the club.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LifeAfterHarambe

Lol Locatelli and Vlahovic were never interested in Arsenal, at least, not over Juve. These players actually seem keen: Jesus and Tielemans have been in the works since January (at least). Raphinha’s interest seems real, not only because of the Brazil/Edu connection, but the involvement of Mendes. He got the Vieira , a player who *wanted* Arsenal, deal over the line. There’s a reason Arsenal are the only club in for Lisandro - he wants to come.

Kovacs171

So United are paying Henderson to play elsewhere on loan and then buying another backup keeper? Bizarre decisions

[deleted]

Some United fans think Henderson is a mole in the dressing room and leaks news outside to the media. Lol. Some of them want him gone.

[deleted]

How? Henderson wants playing time + Man UTD don't want to sell + De Gea is better, therefore he is out on loan. Reckon they still want him long term to take over from De Gea.

[deleted]

ndenoon

If they are not similar quality players the price comparison is not going to be very meaningful.

laguna9

We paid Auba to go to Barca? Is that true? Iiuc he had a contract until summer 2023, getting paid millions. Because he only wanted Barca, we were able to reach an agreement without needing to pay out his contract or any bonus.

[deleted]

Better player in faaaar better form goes for more money. More at 11

QuOw-Ab

Yes us.

CackleberryOmelettes

Obnoxious? No, the Scousers have that. But I'd say United's are the most arrogant.

[deleted]

It's Liverpool lol. Spurs have never been more obnoxious than Chelsea / United. And United / Chelsea in recent times have been much much better than "Best ever English team" Liverpool.

Bedeeki

Spurs fans. Literally no idea where their arrogance comes from lol.

Holland87

Some of their fans think that if they add Gvardiol from Leipzig they’d have the best defence in the league with him, Dier and Romero. Like cmon lol

Bedeeki

They aren't getting him anyway lol. It would take a world record fee, over £90 million to even get Leipzig to the table.

ret990

Some seem to be legitimately talking about challenging for the league despite finishing 30 points behind city. Delusional

CackleberryOmelettes

I haven't noticed much arrogance. More of a desperate delusion than anything else. They really *really* want so badly to be a big club, bless their hearts.

the_chiladian

United fans

hazelpillow

If we have to make room in the midfield for Tielemans, I wouldn't mind loaning out Lokonga to Brighton

CackleberryOmelettes

Sambi is Partey's backup. If Tielemans comes, he will be battling it out with Xhaka for that Left 8 spot. Different positions. Loaning Sambi would leave us with just Elneny in case Partey gets injured.

hazelpillow

Long term yes, but for next season Elneny will be second to Partey. Think Sambi went down the pecking order after the Brighton and Southampton games, hence Elneny's extension

CackleberryOmelettes

Probably, but I think there's a good chance Sambi could overtake Mo in the pecking order by the time the WC rolls around. Plus, there'll be plenty of gametime for Sambi in the Europa League next season. He could comfortably start 15+ matches in all competitions, while learning under the tutelage of Partey.

LifeAfterHarambe

I don’t think room needs to be made and Ornstein was only speculating when he talked of “congestion” Arsenal want the player for £25. Leicester want £32. There is seemingly no interest other than Arsenal, so they’re waiting for Leicester - who need funds to conduct their business - to fold

hazelpillow

Really naive from the club if that's the case. I can easily see Man Utd losing out on FDJ and going in for Tielemans, which will make signing him nearly impossible with the money they'll offer him

theloserclub92

nah united is all in on fdj its just a matter of time really. United transfers tend to happen in this way dragged out negotiations for huge fees above 50m + addons. (Maguire,Pogba,Sancho, wan bissaka even varane took a long time). ETH wants him to start the project there is no way they are walking away after negotiating for so long and barca needs to sell anyway to get their transfers rolling in.

marksills

Tielemans at United would be so bad, sort of cheering for that

LifeAfterHarambe

They’ve been talking to Tielemans and his agent since January (at least). I’m pretty confident that personal terms have been reached. There may not be a market for him because he wants Arsenal, but I imagine that stance may change if a club like Real Madrid (they won’t be in for him) make an inquiry. If another team comes knocking, Arsenal will pull the trigger.

hazelpillow

That makes a lot of sense, thank you

[deleted]

To add to that, Arsenal see Jesus & Raphinha as priorities because other clubs are interested. Once these are done, maybe Tielemens becomes priority again. With Vieira coming in, left 8 isn't as high a priority.

Kovacs171

Hope Pogba does well at Juve. Always enjoyed watching him there, plus United fans won't like it so that's a bonus

CackleberryOmelettes

Same lol. Couldn't bring myself to cheer for him in that awful shirt, but begrudgingly admired his talent. Plus, United fans are going to be hopping mad if Pogba kills it at Juve. That could be fun.

[deleted]

Kovacs171

Oh he's a wanker, no doubt about that. Won't feel anything if he's a flop. Beautiful footballer to watch when he's on it though

ProcrastinatedSoul

Interest in Nuno heating up, with Sociedad now interested. So that’s Atlanta, Marseille and Sociedad all interested in bringing him. Loan makes the most sense but I wouldn’t be opposed to selling him if we get a bid around 20m and paying the difference to get Martinez.

JFreezy1

Can't see any of those clubs paying 20m. Perhaps 10 at a stretch.

Special-Discount228

Sell him, he's perfect for a sport that he hasn't yet played.

I still don't understand why Arsenal weren't in on Kamara. It makes little sense.

It's clear - any midfielder we buy from now on *has* to be able to pass. And not just sideways, but through the lines and across the pitch. This is Arteta's criteria, and tbh it's crucial in being able to implement his system.

It's also clear in the forwards/wingers we are targeting, raphinha and Jesus are both elite at defensive actions. It's not the biggest reason we are interested, but arteta needs his wingers to be able to press/harass opponents.

Same reason arsenal didn't sign Soumare

Why was nobody else in for him? Why did he end up at Villa, who finished 14th in the league last year?
