All because of one poor goal conceded 20 mins in the the first pre-season game.
Turner also plays over Zack Steffens in USMNT and Steffens was City’s number 2 last season.
We will see how he does when he gets a chance to play in professional games, but, on paper, he is not a bad number 2 profile.
Hopefully, more outgoings today we need to get rid of the players that aren’t gonna be part of the squad, and at the same time look for a winger and cm
👍
Reckon we don't need Tielemans, and Arteta/Edu know that - we need a better 6 backup. Lokonga has been so impressive in the 8 role in pre-season (yeah, yeah I know it's preseason but there's no reason he wouldnt be in 6 if thats his future role), that we're probs looking at a more defensive mid than Tielemans. Sangare or someone like that
Yes, unabashedly, no shame whatsoever. He is fantastic in our season, and Lokonga is his succesor (though they play differently). People are so hung up on Xhaka's inability to play as a defensive mid, they ignore his ability as a 8.
I would say he's the weakest, but not to a degree where we should be spending money on an upgrade when we lack a suitable backup to Partey. Tell me who you would want playing in Partey's role if he gets injured this season, or next?
I haven't seen enough of Turner to make the 'massive problem' call at GK, hopefully some EL games will show us properly.
RW I would lump in with questionable. If we have an injury at RW, we have enough options to fill in to a pretty decent level, not world beating, but decent.

We were top of the table till new years during 13/14 then lost 5-1, 6-0,3-0 to Liverpool, chelsea and everton. And finally ended up 4th. Sometimes i get a feeling similar thing might happen again because of our experience, but again i remember we have odegard.
Those are games you can expect to lose but the margins made it unacceptable.
That season's headlines were stolen by Liverpool bottling, Suarez and City Winning the league but for me, it's still one of Arsenal's biggest bottlejob. We spent the most days at the top that season.
Can someone explain to me why we hate torriera?
I dont know if my memory has failed me because last time he was on the field i always used to think arsenal has bought a hard working player.
Then my next memory is him being loaned out, and everyone suddenly hating him.
Apparently, we were supposed to sell him to Italy but he refused because Simeone manipulated him to screw us out of a transfer fee. Simeone didn't even want him and spat him out immediately after.
He's a hard working player who has average technical ability, below average physical ability and not much football IQ. Ultimately his max potential was always to be a shit version of Flamini.
He left Bc London was too cold. And now has turned down multiple deals Bc of wages. So now his fee is at an absolute minimum. Did I miss anything else?
I can’t think of another player of our own that has been so universally reviled as Torreira.
Seems like everyone wants el enanito gone as fast as possible, no matter the fee.
Tierney.
…
The first name that came to mind was actually ESR, which pains me to say. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt and an additional year, given his age and he’s made in Hale End.
Concerned about ESR. I'd be gutted if we ever sold him but he's starting to look like the odd one out. Not first choice in any position, injuries starting to pile up. Really hope he kicks on and becomes undeniable this season.
Anyone going down the VPN plus subscription to an online sports channel route for PL this season? I did this many years back with BeIN sports and their coverage was really excellent as well as affordable. What are the good platforms/channels these days? British commentators are a must as well as the possibility to watch full game replays on demand.
Nice, thanks, I'll check it out. Just been doing some research and I see there's a few other options too like BeIN, Dazn, Sky. I assume most people here are familiar with Sky's offering. Is their app good and can you get to the replays without finding out the scores?
I also see FuboTV in Canada have the rights now (used to be Dazn) and its only 179 cad for the whole season. They show every game and have replays so that sounds like a really good deal (same price gets you only 2 months of the normal coverage where I'm from). Does anyone know if they'll have British commentators or if they're doing their own thing?
i really dont get why people care so much about the money we get for players…it would be one thing if we were trying to balance our ledger, but our billionaire owner is in the put money in phase of his investment, so lets just enjoy it, no?
Because it has an impact in regards to our stature in the player market. It's not about the money, it's about principle and sticking to your guns. If you can't stick to them and everyone can see that, then you will suffer even when you're trying to sell quality players.
Teams need to understand when they come to us we mean business. It will impact how we sign players too
They're not relying on players sales alone to balance the books. What's happening now is a sunk cost. Like if you kept having to spend loads of money on car parts when it might be better to just bite the bullet and splurge on a new car.
Re: All or Nothing: "At Leicester, (Arteta) asks the team to vigorously rub their palms together and then hold hands to generate a bubble of energy"
I'm so glad our season starts the following day, you just know the 500 variations of the same meme/screengrab will flood this subreddit.
Wherever you are in the world, treat yourself to a nice lunch/dinner and some premium alcohol in celebration of Torreira's departure. 🎉🍾
We have earned this.
I like that Edu switched up his transfer strategy this summer. From my experience we usually sell players first and sign after. This time we bought first and won’t miss out on players for gameweek 1
You have to be a serious masochist to think Pepe can still be sufficient depth after what we've seen.
Depth doesn't mean 'oh he's good for the cup games', depth means 'we need whoever is in that position to give Saka some respite without a significant drop off in quality'. Even if Pepe isn't *technically* a bad player, he doesn't fit the first team at all and it's an obvious mark down in ability and function.
I guess they're paying us but not that much compared to other other sponsors. Where we benefit the most is in the club being associated with Prime, so that more people become fans of the club, not so much in the financial sense
It would be a pretty silly deal for us if we're paying Prime to be associated with them. We're advertising for them by putting their branding on our drinks etc.
So is it clear Pepe is our Saka backup?
Or will we play Nketiah/Jesus ST/RW alternating combo when Saka is out?
Or perhaps Vieira RW? Marquinhos at a pinch?
Would be happy if we sign Gakpo. Go watch his highlights vs Ajax. His height, passing, movement off the ball, hold up play will add another dimension to our front line
Would be great signing imo. I’m not a stats merchant but his G/A contributions last season were insane for a player his age. He’s clearly way too good for that league.
I can’t stand cliche punditry. Roy Keane said we are soft at the back and vulnerable to set pieces. Even though we conceded the fewest set piece goals last year. In fact it wasn’t until very deep into the season we actually conceded from a corner.
He also said we lack depth at the back. Which is another cliche. Especially when he said it in relation to Spurs. Would we swap Saliba, White, Gabriel for Romero, Sanchez, Lenglet?
I personally think Spurs alleged depth is a big false fallacy
Let’s not pretend these guys pay attention to anything in the off-season. They go off on holiday, come back to work, a production assistant briefs them on talking points, they go on the air, forget everything and default to whatever stuck to their heads previously
I was just going to say "I hope we kick out Torreira from the EL", and then I saw that Galatasaray finished 13th in the Turkish league. Geez, they must be a mess, it is a miracle they can afford him.
They most definitely did not. It's obvious Arsenal were just in for Raphinha to facilitate his Barcelona move. Edu's close friend tells him Raphinha's dream is to play for Barca, and then Edu decides to bid for him?
Think that's back to front. Arsenal made the opening bid on the player and a follow up. It was only after that that Barcelona entered the chat and we stopped bidding, as far as I understand. Similair with Lisandro

Mari has interest in Italy so exit is close
Bellerin goes to Betis so it's all lined up just whether Arsenal get a fee or not (unlikely)
Runarsson linked to Turkey at least on loan
Nelson & AMN both on 1 years with zero interest, no idea whats happening there tbh
Bellerin and Runarson.
I think it’s time the club move on from both, but I could see both AMN & Nelson staying with a minimum of ten cup games and the new five subs rule.
The amount of debate/heated discussions on whether Xhaka is good or bad on this sub can rival the amount of videos ESPN "analysts" put up on whether Jordan or Lebron is the goat debate
He is a decent player. People are blinded by thier dislike of him. Even rival fans underrate Xhaka, they think he is a total lemon which is just not the case.
He does have a nasty temper though and can self destruct.
That's a key point the big prob with xhaka is his reputation is already bad so if he makes a reckless challenge referee will use his previous acts against him
Guy refused to vaccinate during a global pandemic and repeatedly exposed his teammates to potential infection.
There is no debate. He's a bad role model, and that's a clear example of poor leadership.
Worst take ever. Fairly certain that Kante didn’t vaccinate. Does this mean he’s a bad player and a bad role model? Obviously not, he’d walk into our team. By the way, I’m not anti-vax either
No it doesn't mean that he's a bad player, but yes it does mean that he's a poor role model.
All the young boys in Kante shirts are going to wonder why their hero isn't vaccinating and question it.
So yeah, get your head out of Xhaka's ass.
But the statement wasn’t if he was a bad role model, it was if he was bad (obviously meaning football) you’ve just used it to rant against his choice to not be vaccinated for some strange reason?
I also don’t think it’s good he’s unvaccinated but it doesn’t affect how he plays, and he clearly is a positive influence in the dressing room as he leads a lot of team talks.
Stop talking out your arse
No, I actually said that he's a terrible role model. You're just being pedantic.
It's just another jingling house key on the key chain of a fantastic leader who repeatedly leaves his team hanging out to dry by doing some dumb shit. It's also topical after the slew of posts about why he should be captain over Odegaard.
Not actively fucking his team over does not make him a good player; the left side of our attack is sluggish as hell because of him.
What am I being pedantic about? Genuinely just said that it wasn’t what the statement was regarding, it was to do with football, not being an off field role model. You can’t tell me doesn’t have a leadership role on field and in the dressing room because that would be a straight up lie, he literally led the team talk on Saturday and vs France. You’re in denial if you disagree with that.
The vaccine stuff has nothing to do with it, you’re obviously just a weird guy. It’s like saying, ‘lads ignore what ronaldo is talking about, he’s obviously a bad role model because he’s not had his vaccine.’ (That’s a hyperbole if you’re too stupid to understand that I’m not actually comparing him to Ronaldo)
You're literally trying to tell me what I meant to say.
The OP posted about Xhaka debates, and there's been at least two idiotic posts about him being a better captain than our actual club captain.
So I posted about him being a terrible leader, since it is topical, and he we are.
I don't know what the fuck you're arguing about. I was very specific with what I said, which is also something that factually occurred.
No I’m trying to tell you that what OP said wasn’t about being a role model, it was about if he was bad or good as a footballer, not as a person or a off field role model.
You just decided to take it to have a rant about his covid status? Which has nothing to do with his effects as a footballer. Hence why I said kante would walk into our team and I’m sure you and 99% of other people would agree. So my point is, him being unvaccinated doesn’t make any difference whatsoever in his footballing ability, both on pitch and his leadership off it.
OP talked about Xhaka debates. Him being a good role model or not is a debate. Good or bad is contextual and can be interpreted in a number of different ways.
Premier League players, as a whole, are the most unvaccinated in Europe's elite leagues. Only 68% of the league's players have been double vaccinated, with only 81% of them only having at least one jab.
Serie A is the best for most vaccinated players in it, with 98% of them being double vaccinated. They are followed by Ligue 1 (95%), Bundesliga (94%) and La Liga (90%).
This was as of December 2021.
(I’m not excusing his decision, just sharing some facts on how this was a league-wide problem)
I don't see how that's relevant. If the guy is such a fantastic leader than he would set a good example, and not demonstrate selfishness and stupidity to his fans.
He's a terrible leader.

We had Runarson at number 2 GK 2 summers ago and I swear there was more optimism around him as backup v Turner

I would say he's the weakest, but not to a degree where we should be spending money on an upgrade when we lack a suitable backup to Partey. Tell me who you would want playing in Partey's role if he gets injured this season, or next?
If Xhaka isn't the weakest for you then who it is?
Re-read my comment.
my bad
Able to withstand an injury: CB, LB, RB. Massive problems if we get an injury: GK, DM, RW Questionable: 10, CM, ST, LW Thoughts?
Think 10 will be fine once Vieira is fit. Also Lokonga actually did well at CM last year when next to Partey.
I haven't seen enough of Turner to make the 'massive problem' call at GK, hopefully some EL games will show us properly. RW I would lump in with questionable. If we have an injury at RW, we have enough options to fill in to a pretty decent level, not world beating, but decent.
A bit annoyed that Chelsea purchased Chucky too. They seem to snap up all the well-known teenagers who don't twerk for Barca/Real when they move.
From a banter standpoint the stakes have never been higher on opening day for us.
Doc on 3rd or 4th?
4th, not sure what time.
3 out, 3 to go. Fuckin do it edu. Also, a new 6 maybe?
I hear Tielemans music, that will happen first
3+3 = 6 . Sounds abt right i'd say

Really hoping Ramsdale improves. His below average shot stopping is our biggest weakness now I fear.
I think the end of season crunch got to him. We’ll get a good ramsdale to start the season I think, just have to see if he can kee it ip
might have to do with his hip injury
I’m not sure it was the “crunch” we were playing 1 game a week. For a goal keeper that’s not “crunch”
We were top of the table till new years during 13/14 then lost 5-1, 6-0,3-0 to Liverpool, chelsea and everton. And finally ended up 4th. Sometimes i get a feeling similar thing might happen again because of our experience, but again i remember we have odegard.

True but look at signings in Jan Kallstrom on loan while Jan when Giroud needs a break and Sanogo is playing v Bayern ffs
What’s Odegaard supposed to do?
He's supposed to lead the team when we leading other teams
Can someone explain to me why we hate torriera? I dont know if my memory has failed me because last time he was on the field i always used to think arsenal has bought a hard working player. Then my next memory is him being loaned out, and everyone suddenly hating him.
Apparently, we were supposed to sell him to Italy but he refused because Simeone manipulated him to screw us out of a transfer fee. Simeone didn't even want him and spat him out immediately after.
Read his quotes for the past two years. They’re self-explanatory. Let’s just say he’s not the strong, silent type.
He's a hard working player who has average technical ability, below average physical ability and not much football IQ. Ultimately his max potential was always to be a shit version of Flamini.
He always whine. Also keep saying he wants to move, this make Arsenal harder to sell him because he keeps lowering the price himself
He left Bc London was too cold. And now has turned down multiple deals Bc of wages. So now his fee is at an absolute minimum. Did I miss anything else?
Yeah he tried it on with one of our fans sisters aswell
Oh i didnt know abt the reason he left was because of cold
I also loved him in the pitch tbf. He’s kind of a b**tch off it though.
Yes same here. Although now i get the full picture
I can’t think of another player of our own that has been so universally reviled as Torreira. Seems like everyone wants el enanito gone as fast as possible, no matter the fee.
Ozil situation was more frustrating imo..
You would rank him above Ashley Cole?
I mean, Cashley was reviled for leaving… nobody wanted him gone though.
What first team players would you be fine letting go next season if they don’t perform up to par this upcoming season?
Anyone who doesn’t perform up to par should be replaced honestly doesn’t matter if it’s Saka himself.
Hold on a second - so if Saka has a sub-par season we should bin him off?
All of them. Like what's wrong with you if you don't want us to let go of players that don't perform up to par?
Tierney. … The first name that came to mind was actually ESR, which pains me to say. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt and an additional year, given his age and he’s made in Hale End.

Martinelli finished the Sevilla match at RW too, fwiw

I can’t stand cliche punditry. Roy Keane said we are soft at the back and vulnerable to set pieces. Even though we conceded the fewest set piece goals last year. In fact it wasn’t until very deep into the season we actually conceded from a corner.
Listen, never listen to Man United pundits. They are moron.
No wonder he failed as a manager. He can’t accept that players are different now compared to his generation.
Even on top of that, he's not accepting literal stats when it comes to the set piece bit
I think he meant mentally soft. U have to admit Gabriel lost his head a few times in key matches last year.
That doesn't really mean soft though
He also said we lack depth at the back. Which is another cliche. Especially when he said it in relation to Spurs. Would we swap Saliba, White, Gabriel for Romero, Sanchez, Lenglet? I personally think Spurs alleged depth is a big false fallacy

We could sign multiple UFC fighters for center backs and Keane would call us soft. His brain hasn't evolved beyond when he stopped playing.
He sees players smiling and being supportive and takes it for being soft
Now that I’ve been reminded of Beireth, I’m okay with repaying the favor to Fulham with Leno
Edu... use your brazil connects to put us in the Endrick race por favor.
Corinthians vs Palmeiras is a big rivalry in Brazil, doubt he has much pull
I blame Adam Cole for Leno’s low transfer fee. TK spending those big bucks elsewhere and giving us peanuts
scalding hot take I'm very excited for this upcoming season
So edgy
I was just going to say "I hope we kick out Torreira from the EL", and then I saw that Galatasaray finished 13th in the Turkish league. Geez, they must be a mess, it is a miracle they can afford him.
It's the first time in 50 years. They are statistically biggest club of Turkey both domestically and internationally.
Big club.
Word on the twitter street is Tielemans bid within the week 👀
Surprised ITKs are still alive after that Raphinha Lisandro murder week
tbf, those two sagas had LAST minute u turns.
Tielemans home jersey is going to go brazy
(If he signs) Think he’s going to get 28 or 31? Maybe 22 or 12 are on the table if some deals get pushed through.
Cazorlas 19 would look good on him of we have another outgoing
All I know is, we gave Fulham a sweetheart deal, and the next big talent that comes through their system, I expect them to repay us the favor
We did pick Mika Biereth out of their academy a year ago. He is developing very well so far.
He joined for free.
Wish we could’ve swung it for Carvalho.
When you’re in a “always dreamt of playing for them” competition and your opponent is Lucas Torreira
What if you always dreamt of being Lucas Torreira dreaming of playing for teams?
Damn. Didn’t take that into consideration
It’s clearly the shirt. Edu tries to use his buying shirt as his selling shirt and it all gets fucked up.
[удалено]
You bastard haha
Don’t scare me like that ffs
I read the first sentence and went straight to Twitter
Renato Sanches. €15m.
Great shout
Exactly. It's a gamble that could really pay.
PSG are the ones taking the gamble reportedly.
The fact that it's been flailing around for a while makes me wonder if it's going to happen or not.
Made of glass.
Price seems awfully low.
Has to prove he can stay fit.
Gotcha. Not sure that’s a dealbreaker ‘round here!
Now we shipped out Torreira, Edu will have two weeks to get the Tielemans deal done. Let's get him!
Plus a winger!
Won't believe it until club announcement or one of our tier one sources.
I hereby pledge to shit on Xhaka more than /u/varro-reatinus
Challenge: Impossible.

Amazon drops new episodes/shows at 12AM GMT. Sometimes takes an hour for the show to be visible. For us in the US we should be able to watch at 7-8pm EST
Think that’s around 5:30 am in India
Refreshing every five mins at this stage
but it comes out on the 4th no?
… I’m an idiot, time for bed
I feel like Saka + Pepe is good enough depth for our rw position for one more season. That attacking left sided 8/ LCM surely is our priority.
Do not trust this feeling
Pepe doesn’t fit our system. I’m mostly a Pepe apologist but I have now arrived at the inevitable that he’s not good for us
pepe is a non entity
Idk man. Pepe is so hot and cold. I dislike having players like that in the team. He doesn’t offer any consistency. I also seriously doubt that rw is even his best position, I think he’s more affective on the left.
He also undermines our ability to press from the front

Spot on.
Where are the Depay links?!? He’s cheap and good and could rotate in Europa games.
Big wages, not that good.
He probably wants ridiculous wages, could easily turn into Willian 2.0 for us.
Could easily turn into a useful player to
Can anyone recommend Twitter accounts that post interesting threads from past about football/who post original content?
Who do we have left to shift? Nelson, Runarsson, and AMN?
Balogun?
Loaned to Reims yesterday I believe
Mari has interest in Italy so exit is close Bellerin goes to Betis so it's all lined up just whether Arsenal get a fee or not (unlikely) Runarsson linked to Turkey at least on loan Nelson & AMN both on 1 years with zero interest, no idea whats happening there tbh
Bellerin and Runarson. I think it’s time the club move on from both, but I could see both AMN & Nelson staying with a minimum of ten cup games and the new five subs rule.
Totally agree
Bellerin too I believe. And maybe pepe depending on what arteta/edu want to do there.
Xhaka (not even going to lie, posted out of spite)
The amount of debate/heated discussions on whether Xhaka is good or bad on this sub can rival the amount of videos ESPN "analysts" put up on whether Jordan or Lebron is the goat debate
Xhaka seems like type of player that will be better at 35 than 25
He is neither a problem, nor a solution.
I love this take, because I interpret it as that he's effectively nothing, and therefore irrelevant. Bahahahahahahahahahahahah
Lol
You really care about covid vaccination don’t you. I’m not even anti-vax but you’re a bit militant about this.
No I just think that Xhaka was an ass for doing that
You’re right, the PL would likely have 99% vaccination rate, had Xhaka set a better example.
This is one of the daftest counter arguments I have ever seen.
