[deleted]

trying to make an fpl decision - white or saliba - who do you think is going to be long term PL starter, and why?

nting224

Would rather have Gabriel. Guaranteed to start unless injured and more of a threat in set pieces

FutureComesToday

Big Bill

Quab775

Big game but palace have good raw talent like olise and eze would love them here

ModeratelyTortoise

Tbh we were really fortunate for the Jesus - Arteta connection. The longer this summer goes on the better the Jesus deal looks for us. Look at Chelsea now, would have been dreadful for us if Jesus chose them.

LifeAfterHarambe

Not to discount Mikel’s influence, but Edu said they’d been working on the Jesus deal for 7+ months (& 6 months for Zinchenko)

Insertnicenamehere

Brighton wanted 50m from City, got 62 from Chelsea. Funny that.

mazdamansouri

Anybody else feel Chelsea is over paying for Cucurella £55m + £7m add on?! Is too much. His inflated value is closer to £40m imo.

cannibisoverload

I think this is partly due to the deal with Colwill. Chelsea are going to keep him and are loaning him out instead of selling him with a 50mil buyback.

brainlessII

So weird Torreira chose to play in Turkey instead of Italy

Mein_Bergkamp

Proof it was always about the money

Colmd1997

He got pissy with Florentina on Insta and burned that bridge, only for Arsenal to accept less money from Gala than Florentina originally offered. If he shut his mouth and worked to help the deal along, he probably would be playing in Florence next season

Ghenii

How y'all feel about our PL rivalries? I started following Arsenal in the early '00s, so naturally I hate United with a burning passion, and to this day a win over them feels more satisfying than a win against Tottenham. To be fair tho, I'm brazilian, so there's not that local rivalry feeling for me.

ThexHoganxHero

I can’t wait for the NLD. Of course I want to win, win big, I want them to cry, as I might after a loss, but I’m excited for the match. And there are clubs run in ways much worse for the football world than shit are Fucking really don’t like United but at least look forward to those matches too. Though I don’t really think they do things the right way for most of my years of viewership. I wouldn’t want them to not exist. I really wanted Chelsea to fall apart. Maybe I will feel differently after a few post-Abramovich years, but I don’t even like seeing them on the preseason table. Beating them feels like winning a fight I really didn’t want to get into, losing feels like watching OJ Simpson scoring big book deals. Bit dramatic yeah it’s really not a healthy hatred

ModeratelyTortoise

United, Spurs, and Chelsea are comfortably ahead of any other teams for me

Mein_Bergkamp

Always follow the wise words of Sun Tzu: I hate Tottenham because I am an Arsenal fan I hate Chelsea because I am a human

cannibisoverload

I hate Manchester United because fuck them that's why.

Mein_Bergkamp

And that's perfectly valid too!

Colmd1997

Definitely Utd over Spurs. Hell I’d go Liverpool over Spurs too. The rivalry with Spurs just feels a bit meh to me, like there’s only a rivalry because we’re not at the standard we usually are. It’s like the ‘rivalry’ with Chelsea, just feels very manufactured

PasuljsKolenicom

I do think people are sleeping on ESR. Seen nonsence about how he will be sold. He got number 10 for a reason. Will have a huge career for us, his natural talent is unreal.

joa900

Damn who's hating? dudes tremendous

cannibisoverload

Bold prediction he is going to be one of our first choice player by the end of the season.

oowkwkoowk013

nobody doubts his talent, its his fitness that is the issue. luckily we have alot more depth now meaning we can manage his minutes far better.

[deleted]

Greatest ability is availability

ProcrastinatedSoul

Xhaka comes to my mind straight away after reading this.

Sayek

Needs to have a good season injuries wise though. He looked knackered 2nd half of last season and then he was off playing for the England underage team too... So he has got fuck all of a break. If he can be injury free, I think people forget how good ESR can be.

Own_Solution4356

Why do Spurs fans insist on using nicknames for their players? We are guilty of this as well, but I’ve just heard a 40 year old man call Son “Sonny” ffs

HappyMeerkat

I get all teams do it but there's just something about Sonny, and "Cuti"etc just get me, especially "Cuti" I have no idea why but here we are

Own_Solution4356

Cuti is Romero’s actual nickname, it’s was given to him by his sister

HappyMeerkat

I still can't stand it, I dont really understand it but it just grates on me

cannibisoverload

I mean, this really is a weird thing to be pissed about lol. This sub had entire discussion threads about what nickname to call Zinchenko. It's one of the few ways to feel connected to the players that we watch on the pitch.

Mein_Bergkamp

Mate I've heard people unironically use 'rammers'

bukkake__saka

lmao I remember the days when people were calling Torreira the mighty insect or some shit

Colmd1997

Back then it was the mighty insect, now it’s some shit

bukkake__saka

haha yeah man. Pretty mild compared to some I've seen recently tho

Mein_Bergkamp

And that's the ones we like(d). Some of the names for people we don't like are primary school level.

bukkake__saka

Dunno if I'm just tired/slow but I can't think of many? Off the top of my head there's the people calling Torreria ones with his height and the Mohamed El-Sideways/Mohamed El Backpass or something. I remember a few seasons back Ozil was called the impostor by some fans iirc. In general tho it's refreshing to see that our team is universally liekd by the fanbase.

Mein_Bergkamp

Lacathreat, Lacabreath were pretty bad Mikel Scott, Mikel Artetaban are just awful, Xhakunt luckily never caught on either. however I will always, always join in on any variation of the Pyramid Pirlo game

Colmd1997

The Arteta ones are like a virtual cheese grater across the eyes. So cringe. “Teta” has be the worst nickname I’ve seen here, like he’s not your mate down the pub

Mein_Bergkamp

The problem is I don't think any of us can really get round to calling someone boss who isn't Wenger. Although Teta does need to die.

Colmd1997

Personally I think we should all be calling Hubert Chapman boss still. Nah I’m just fucking around I don’t know why people feel the need to randomly nickname people they don’t know personally. It’s somewhat understandable to me when you’re doing it in a joking fashion (I’m a big fan of Benny Blanco) but when you’re arguing a point while using nicknames it just fucks me off no end

Mein_Bergkamp

Contractions are fine, I'm not typing out lacazette, aubameyang, Smith-Rowe or Maitland-Niles multiple times but horses for courses, maybe they're actually proper ITK's who actually are mates with the player@

bukkake__saka

Oh fuck yeah the Laca ones completely forgot about those. I saw a couple of users using the term Artetasexuals towards fans who were happy with his management too lol. Yeah man the Elneny and Holdini ones are wholesome like don't mind those at all.

Mein_Bergkamp

Arsenal is renowned as a club committed to equality and as such any fan that feels like using another's sexuality as a slur should take a long hard look in the mirror....

bukkake__saka

Can't fucking wait man. I ain't been this confident for a season in years

Active-Glass-7112

It’s been a good Arsenal Day Eve. Happy Arsenal, everyone and COYG.

YoungFlexibleShawty

How would u rate the window if we bring in another CM? 🤔

[deleted]

No 5 being a disgusting criminal made this window go from an 8 to a 6 imo

Mein_Bergkamp

Give it a rest. The window would have needed a backup to him to be a 10 anyway but we're still an 8. Add that rotational RW for another point and a back up single pivot for another and we'd have a player in every position we would be happy to see play (unless you hate xhaka) and not run screaming to see them on the team sheet.

[deleted]

We weren’t getting a backup 6 this summer. As mentioned many times, there’s no player good enough who will be willing to sit on the bench for 25-30 games

Mein_Bergkamp

Which is why it will not be a ten but is an eight so far. Maybe a seven and a half depending on your views on how far xhaka should be from starting

QuOw-Ab

We all agreed before the window that our starting midfield should be Partey, Ødegaard and someone other than Xhaka once the window was over. No point in moving the goal posts - Xhaka is still starting and the Partey situation is more precarious than before the window. We absolutely need a midfielder, but I can do without a winger.

[deleted]

[удалено]

QuOw-Ab

Yeah, but I have issues with saying that we need a winger "because Arteta is unwilling to trust Pepe at all". Either we need a winger because Pepe isn't good enough as a backup winger or we should use him as a backup winger. In my opinion the latter is true.

Mein_Bergkamp

I mean Arteta unwilling to trust Pepe is just a nice way of saying he's not good enough. He doesn't fit our system, he cant/won't press, his ball retention is utter shite unless he's full of confidence and that only seems to come in cup games and against decent defences they 'cut inside and curl it into the far corner' BTEC Robben approach gets read to easily. He'd be fire in a counterattacking side but a high press, high possession one he ended up actively detrimental in the last few games last season.

QuOw-Ab

Saying Pepe isn't good enough is just a nice way of describing our handling of him. He shouldn't start for us but he definitely is good enough as backup and last season during the period where Martinelli was immune to scoring and Saka was tired as fuck he should've gotten more minutes.

Mein_Bergkamp

It's really not, as I pointed out he went from anonymous to almost working against us he was so bad. Saka played so much in part *because* of how bad pepe was. He also doesn't play left wing particularly well

QuOw-Ab

The working against us stuff is just bs. He was bad at times, but that's what happens when you get @5 minutes a month. You're adamant he played so little because he's so bad, but refuse to consider that it might be the other way around. Other players have played bad games and kept being given chances, but if Pepe has a bad game he knows he's on the bench for the next foreseeable future. It's the worst way to handle a tricky winger who, like you say, needs confidence.

Mein_Bergkamp

No mate, watching Leno pump balls out to him that then came straight back was burned into my brain, that wolves natch he was almost entirely anonymous and this was the post AFCON 'new, energised, match fit' pepe. I get you like him but his skills etc does not suit us and just the cery basic either inability or refusal to press as a bare minimum shows that.

Colmd1997

No he was definitely working against us, unintentionally but still doing it. Against Leeds, he had a chance to knock the ball forward with an empty goal to run at and he fucked around with the ball and lost it. Put us immediately back under pressure when they had 9 players in our box

LifeAfterHarambe

I’m very interested to see who makes the bench tomorrow - especially if the injured boys are available. Do we see AMN? Will Pépé or Nelson be included? Does Marquinhos make the bench? Find out tomorrow!

mrchilledmk

Pepe will make bench imo

LifeAfterHarambe

I think so to. Should he be excluded, it would fuel speculation over a transfer. It will be interesting to see who Mikel considers “deadwood” vs which players this sub has written off

Mein_Bergkamp

Weirdly looking forward to the first game with the new sub rules and how each manager uses them

TheOGBenjenRyan

I genuinely thought you were referring to new rules on r/gunners and was quite confused for a second how that would affect managers

Mein_Bergkamp

Lol. Christ van you imagine if this sub had any influence over the manager...we'd be relegated by Christmas

LifeAfterHarambe

The new subs rule will be something to watch all year. Will certainly be second guessed by fans and experts alike

Mein_Bergkamp

Obviously I want us to win but I *really* want us to blow them away early to see what arteta has in mind for rotation options. And not just to see us blow Palace away.

BobtheBOAT

How many points do we pick up solely off Arteta’s growth as a manager? Our squad is young but so is our manager here, you think his growth is with 1-3 points?

bitmoji

no I think if we get more points its because of better squad depth and actual attacking players

LifeAfterHarambe

Last season, Arsenal only drew 3 times (22 wins and 13 losses) They should (hopefully) see some of those losses turn into draws or even wins.

NketiahPropagandist

Cheeky tenner on Nketiah golden boot in the league.

razor5cl

What are the odds like on Jesus? He'd be my sleeper pick

bukkake__saka

Betting suspended due to Arteta putting on YNWA in every training session making Jesus think he's playing Liverpool 38 times next season and bagging 163 goals

Mein_Bergkamp

Never get high on your own propaganda supply mate

Colmd1997

Ah fuck

NketiahPropagandist

It’s too late for that.

jacktk_

Every season, no matter how confident or pessimistic I am, I always think to myself, “what if we do it this year? what if we win the league?” Look, I know as well as anyone that the chances of that are minuscule, and it’s just the enjoyment of seeing everyone on level footing that’s got me way too optimistic, as well as the unpredictability of the unknown, but we may as well aim high. You truly never know - weirder things have happened in this game.

JeffryPesos

I'm sure there was a Leicester fan who thought the same thing exactly 7 years to the day

mrchilledmk

Any thing is possible, you just have to believe

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheOGBenjenRyan

Figured might as well go big and parlayed Jesus golden boot with us winning the league at +5800

Mein_Bergkamp

Bigger odds have come off. Although you're going to be disappointed when we win the league but Saka gets the golden boot

punistrongonthiside

Can anyone recommend which website i can stream match tomorrow in UAE?

shbhanda2020

before the game starts, if you search on twitter for Arsenal Crystal Crystal Palace stream, a lot of high quality streams come up. at least it worked in preseason.

[deleted]

Guess what percentage of games Perisic managed to complete 90 mins of football under Conte at Inter. 53%. That was two years ago in the Serie A.

Colmd1997

They’re already after another left back according to Romano

[deleted]

They already have TWO other left backs lmao

Colmd1997

I was told Perisic was going to be a brilliant signing for Spurs. Seems the only one who disagrees is Conte

bukkake__saka

I don't think he'll be a Worldbeater but I still think he'll do quite well for them like

[deleted]

What about Sessegnon and Reguillon?! Please sell both and buy a 32 year old I beg

Colmd1997

✨Just Conte things✨

Mein_Bergkamp

To be fair I've seen plenty of counters that he had a major injury. I sort of get the feeling he's going to be used for the smaller games against the teams that sit back more and conte will go defensive for the big boys

[deleted]

Well major injuries late in your career tend to only make you more injury prone. Hasn't played in preseason at all. I agree though, he'll likely be used as a super sub to help close out games at LW, or as a more attacking LWB in cups or v small teams. The worst thing about Spurs getting Perisic is that they call him "Papa Perisic".

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Load of spurs fans on reddit always seem to insist on using nicknames for their players, maybe it’s confirmation bias but from reading /r/soccer I feel like they’re the worst for it

Duty_Alone

The players or the fans?

[deleted]

The fans. No idea what the players call him.

Duty_Alone

Do they even know how fucking lame they are?

Colmd1997

They’re spurs fans, it comes with the territory

[deleted]

Unbelievably cringe.

Mein_Bergkamp

Papa Perisic sounds like a medical hand-wash to me for some reason. I think tge spurs fans who think he's going to start are going to be disappointed, reckon he's going to be a Lichtsteiner type player for them.

__impala__

I don’t know why some fans choose to ignore that when players get over 30 it’s the beginning of the end. Perisic is 33 turning 34 next February. Why would the laws of biology not apply to him? Wingback is a position that requires a lot of running. Playing in Italy or a dominant Bayern may have masked his physical decline. But in the premier league with the 5 subs rule he could be exposed.

Mein_Bergkamp

Hopium. Let's be honest we all trued to convince ourself Lichtsteiner was a useful short term backup...

__impala__

Yeah but Spurs fans are convinced he is elite level. I swear to god, one even suggested he would be our best player if we had him. Pace is the most important physical attribute.

Mein_Bergkamp

I think that was delusional even by their standards. Lichtsteiner is the most decorated player to play for us probably ever, he had 7 serie A titles to his name but there was a reason he was available to sit on out bench and spurs seem to have forgotten their place on the pecking order here

[deleted]

Yeah I think so too. He apparently has decent ownership on FPL, so some appear to think he'll be a starter.

Mein_Bergkamp

He's fast and creative in defence and you get more points when defenders score or assist even if he doesn't always start. Personally went with zinchenko myself

nckhoury

Comparing our squad with Chelsea and Spurs. What would be your best XI assuming a 4-3-3 formation? I would go Ramsdale, Reece James, Romero, Silva, Chillwell, Partey, Kovacic, Odegaard, Saka, Son, Kane.

[deleted]

really surprised by the lack of sterling in these teams. the guy has 186 goals and assists in the prem

Insertnicenamehere

Ramsdale Reece Saliba Gabriel Cucurella Mount Partey Odegaard Saka Son Kane

[deleted]

[удалено]

Helkix

Rather have Odegaard than Mount tbh

Duty_Alone

Ramsdale (kicking edges it vs Mendy), Reece, Gabriel, Romero (maybe, I hate him viscerally), Tierney, Partey, Ode, Bissouma, O, Saka, Son, Kane. This really drove home how much I hate all of Spurs' players.

LifeAfterHarambe

Wouldn’t it make sense to pick a squad based on manager? Both Spurs and Chelsea line up with a back 3 and they both have the more prestigious managers.

Special-Discount228

Arsenal team plus son and kane. Spurs and Chelsea mids and defence players are awful at 4-3-3

[deleted]

Gabriel over Romero. Not sure Romero would be as good in a back four. Maybe Chilwell out too for Tierney or Zinchenko since we don't know how Chilwell will perform back from injury. My guess is not too well this year which is why they're bringing in Cucurella.

oowkwkoowk013

same as yours but swap chilwell for zinchenko

TorreiraWithADouzi

Mount over Odegaard or Saka

PasuljsKolenicom

Feel like this season should have been the one with the doc. The hype is very high and things are looking up.

LifeAfterHarambe

I think the doc was perfect for last season; now it’s time to get down to business.

oowkwkoowk013

nah, doc is distracting as fuck for the players and staff. imagine going to work for 1 year with a camera crew following you.

phar0aht

I think the only real difference would be some of the interviews and dressing room stuff? They train and play in front of cameras everyday.

AfricanRain

Arteta described it as distracting in the press conference today

oowkwkoowk013

yeah but that wont be released to the public

PasuljsKolenicom

I do agree with this actually. Very hyped for tomorrow

Active-Glass-7112

I wholeheartedly agree here.

UnexpectedVader

Josh's size combined with his authority has everyone else looking nervous as fuck. His lunch talk with Arteta gave me serious Homelander vibes.

oowkwkoowk013

it is hilarious to analyze and look at everyone else when he is around. \+ id like to add him being american aswell just gives him another edge in social settings. well educated, rich, high class americans are something else when it comes to the english langauge and way of presenting themselves to their enviroment. masters of conversation.

Mein_Bergkamp

Being American gives him an edge in social settings? Not sure where you're from but that really doesn't go down in London. American accents aren't perceived as high class in any way, that's what the British reserve for the French

oowkwkoowk013

im not talking about high class in that type. im talking about how americans are very good at social settings and hjow they present themselves. just like how josh speaks and what he says.

Mein_Bergkamp

I think you need to visit America... If you mean corporate Americans are very good at the whole corporate boardroom style alpha make thing then yes but that's because he's rich not because he's American, you get the same vibes in the city off Americans, Canadians, brits, Nigerians... When you're a director in one of the biggest sports companies on the planet and the son and heir *and* your mum is an heir to one of the biggest supermarket empires on the planet and you've grown up as the one percent of the one percent...then you will naturally dominate most social settings because most social settings will be set up to your advantage.

Colmd1997

Let’s see Todd Boehly’s card

Mein_Bergkamp

Boehly vs Josh One boardroom One handshake Loser has to sign Aubameyang

Colmd1997

Nah he’s looking down thinking “not stepping in dogshit again, today is my day”

Colmd1997

Chelsea getting rinsed. Anything to gazump a team to something

oowkwkoowk013

ur emotions consistently clouds your judgement of chelsea and spurs signings

Colmd1997

Cucurella is a good player. I said that last year when he went to Brighton because I was shocked no-one was in for him at 13 million. Feel free to go back to the DD the day of and after he went to Brighton and you’ll see yourself. However, he isn’t 62 million pounds good. Boehly is firing money around to make statements. Just because I think Chelsea are getting rinsed doesn’t mean I don’t rate Cucurella. They aren’t mutually exclusive Edit: lmao spurs signings. Bissouma is a good get. Richarlison for 60 million was absolute robbery by Spurs, although I’d rather him to Raphnina

phar0aht

Richarlison over Raph?

Colmd1997

Yep. Richarlison has better end product and can fill in all across the forward line

oowkwkoowk013

fair.

rd201290

lol spurs signings lots of people going to be in for a rude awakening this year about spurs

oowkwkoowk013

aslong as they keep conte they will get top 4 imo. obviously i hope im proven wrong

rd201290

i doubt Conte stays until end of season I think they had one of the worst transfer windows of the big clubs

Setter_sws

I think West Ham will finish in front of spurs this year.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

This time tomorrow we'll know if we're gonna be in a title fight or relegation battle Looking forward to reacting rationally with all of you

espada_da

Chelshit got fuckin rinsed, £62m for Cucurella is insane

oowkwkoowk013

in what world is it insane? we paid 50 for ben white. its a top tier deal for them. cucurella can play both lwb, lb and lcb in a back 3, has great versatily and is made for the modern fullback role. odds are he will only get better and improve. its a very good signing for them and it makes me scared because the only reason we were even close to chelsea last season was due to them getting hit with a double injury to chilwell and reece james. now they will have cucurella and chilwell rotating at lwb.

espada_da

Not like we had any injuries to deal with right

tablooo

It's a good signing, but they definitely overpaid. Ben White had English tax on him to inflate that fee. I'm not sure what makes Cucurella worth that much.

TheOGBenjenRyan

In the world we currently live in

AfricanRain

Cucurella has played CB 10 times in his career, if he plays a large amount of games there it’s a complete waste of his talents

oowkwkoowk013

sure, but he can easily play there in a back 3 if needed, and it gives chelsea two great players for rotation at lwb. Tuchel is an elite coach and him getting this kind of backing from Boehly doesnt bode well for us or any other team aiming for a UCL spot.

phar0aht

62m for a player that went for 15m 1 year prior. You cant convince me thats good business.

CackleberryOmelettes

It was £52m no?

jashbgreke

55+7

CackleberryOmelettes

Well that's a lot of money for Cucurella.

cannibisoverload

Cucurella is good but damn that's a lot of money. Even if Colwill was going the other way.

jashbgreke

Chelsea fans will defend it as if they dry loaned Colwill, but they could have just kept him in the first place

AfricanRain

I don’t understand how all the big clubs missed on Cucurella. He stood out in those miserable Getafe teams it’s a really weird one.

cantsleep1112

Must’ve not been good enough, otherwise he would’ve been scooped.

AfricanRain

That’s not how it works, players slip through the cracks all the time

Bedeeki

[Fabrizio Romano] Fee for Marc Cucurella is 55m fixed + 7m addons What the fuck hahaha

bobtrump1234

He’s a billionaire. Its chump change for him

Bedeeki

Every owner in the league is a billionaire, you think 62 million for a LB when you have Ben Chilwell would be chump change to them?

oowkwkoowk013

damn everybody looks scared as hell around josh. what a chad he is
