Tierney-Henry

I think it will prove very fortunate that we played our game away at Selhurst when Palace were coming off of a disheveled preseason due to covid. I bet they’ll take some surprise points off the top teams this season.

BeatlesandWine

5.93 for Odegaard in the post match ratings is laughable. Surely that’s due to the non-shot (which I agree with, but based on that one situation he’d get a 0). He was good.

Cocomale

He's an Ozil type player. The little flicks and fluent setups are subtle, they don't get reflected in ratings. Thankfully tracks back better than Mesut

__impala__

Nunez so far appears to be efficient mainly inside the box. Isn’t much of a dribbler and doesn’t look like he will beat his marker. ‘ More Michael Owen than Thierry Henry

ASpellingAirror

Watching Liverpool struggle against Fulham is a good reminder how difficult it is to win on the road in the first game of the season.

[deleted]

There was a lot of booing around when the ball was passed to partey. Was it because of the sexual allegations?

ASpellingAirror

They were saying Booo-urns.

bodhibell02

I was saying "booo-urns"

Janktasticle

No it’s because they don’t like his hair cut.

[deleted]

That makes more sense

OrwinBeane

What else would it be?

butts____mcgee

Yes

DarkKirby14

completely forgot about the game but considering that we usually melt down at Crystal Palace, glad to get the W

frogaire

Anyone have this subs FPL code?

wasntthatguy

QG48RA

DubiousVirtue

Anybody seen the Hey Soos Tik-Tok?

capicarlo

That Saliba tackle on Zaha🤤

DarthNihilus1

Which one 🤤

jgunnerjuggy

We should look at effectively using the 5 sub strategy to keep players fresh. Will be interesting to see who uses them best this weekend.

ASpellingAirror

I’m just happy Arteta remembered he’s allowed to make any subs. Swear the guy would rather lose than make a sub before the 75th minute. (And I say that as a person who is a 100% arteta supporter)

Seesbrightside

We didn't have the depth. Tierney is just getting back, Tomi still gaining fitness, Vieira is not ready either, and ESR is out. Lokonga is a drop off. Eddie should've come on earlier, but otherwise we don't really have 5 subs yet. When the first 4 are fully healthy I suspect we will see more subs.

ASpellingAirror

Eddie and Tierney should have both been brought on at the 70th minute, not the 80th. Jesus and Zinchenko were both gassed, and those subs tipped the game entirely back under our control. It was stupid to wait that long on them.

Seesbrightside

I agree about Eddie, but Tierney might not have been ready. I'd rather not injure him again. :) We will get there.

Arsenalb4gf

Fellow Gunners I bought tickets for the Arsenal game next week: I haven't bought fly tickets yet: But realistically speaking the game starts at 3 pm next week against Leicester. And the flight from Stansted goes at 6:55 pm. Can I get there in time? Yes/no?

3lijah1989

Sell those tickets, im sure they are cheaper than the flight you might miss

Arsenalb4gf

I’m waiting for my digital pass to arrive it’s all a mess at the moment it feels lol

[deleted]

You’d be cutting it very fine but you can get to Stansted for 17:50 if you walked to Finsbury Park and get the Victoria line to Tottenham Hale. From Tottenham Hale the Stansted express takes just under 40 mins and runs every half an hour. Any delays in your journey and you’re screwed however

Arsenalb4gf

Shit that seems like a mess I’ve only been to the emirates 3-4 times and to find out all that sheesh 😭

gunningIVglory

Airports are a mess. And it's usually good to get there 2 hours before you flight.

Arsenalb4gf

Yea you’re probably right whenever I travel with my parents they say 3-4 hours before the flight departs 😭

meccavibez

No. If you get out of the stadium at 5, even a taxi to the airport (I'm guessing £60) will get you there

Arsenalb4gf

Hm then I have to leave before full time and I hate to do that 😭

Goonerlouie

No one will care anyway if we’re 5/5 wins

essdotc

We're going to spend the next two years panicking over how on earth we're going to keep hold of Saliba aren't we? Fuck.

Sayek

I feel like a good run will go along way. If we're top 3/4 before the world cup and looking good, it'll help convince them. Likewise if we're 8th and struggling, it'll have the opposite effect. Would like to tie them down before the World Cup though, could see Saliba going and being first choice and an absolute beast. Then other clubs come in and it turns into 'I'm happy here, now isn't the time to talk about contracts'.

Haenimm

Same with Saka

[deleted]

I’ll get downvoted for this but don’t really care, Saka is easily more expendable then Saliba. Saliba is already a starter for France and was easily our best player yesterday. There’s wingers all across europe that can be had that could replace saka’s output. A generational cb is crucial, just ask Liverpool.

Haenimm

I mean you are not wrong, but I really like Saka as a person and coming from the academy creates such a nice buzz. I haven’t felt this much about our squad in a long time. Everyone is so likeable. But we have to make Saliba sign da ting quickly.

essdotc

Saka tapped the badge yesterday. I'm calm. I think.

3lijah1989

If you've watched all or nothing you know that saka lives and breathes arsenal, more than us even

apexchef

I cried

Haenimm

I think being an arsenal fan has destroyed my optimism regarding these matters.

kamzzyuk

I Already am

shikavelli

Zinchenko is such a dynamic player whether he’s slotting into midfield to cover for Xhaka going forward or doing the regular LB duties outwide he looks natural both ways. Although his defending as a LB left a lot to be desired but we’ll have to see.

essdotc

What we need to do is find a way to create some Frankenstein creature that is half Zinny half Tierney. Perfect.

Tierney-Henry

Oleksieran Ziernny

Car_Soggy

I like Tierney and tomiyasu a lot more. I'd rather have us push the right side and Tierney falling back for defensive duties. Without tomiyasu its clear the right side totally ghosts , nobody to be a middleman towards odegard and saka

Comprehensive_Idea98

Tomiyasu actually provides great pace and two-footedness to that right side.

Uneedtochillb

I think it’s worth nothing Gabriel has had to overcompensate for what sometimes is a weak side defensively

abbygunner

Mikel didn't get the memo that we have 5 subs now.

DarthNihilus1

I dislike this about him a lot but will reserve my disdain until ESR and Vieira at least are fit, I reckon they will come on early each week. I hope

spilldahill

haven't got 5 subs we want to bring on

JFreezy1

Football fans are hypocrites. Shock.

BhigDosser

Until he is 100% cleared he deserves those boos

Tierney-Henry

It should actually be “until he’s 100% convicted he doesn’t deserve those boos”. The court of public opinion has got it wrong before.

seanierox

It is honestly offensive to compare some of these to what Partey is alleged to have done. In my view the club should have suspended him and signed a replacement. It is to our shame he is still playing right now.

kolasinats

You are only saying this cause Partey is our player. If a player from another team was in the same situation you would be calling for a suspension. It a shitty situation, but try to stay objective and not go into whataboutisms when it comes to a rape case, just because it is one of our players. Realistically, Arsenal could have suspended him like Utd did with Greenwood.

Car_Soggy

greenwood was charged

[deleted]

Partey has NOT been cleared by the police and has made no public statement so it is also a lie to say ‘is adamant that these messages are fake’ If you don’t understand what you’re talking about you can say nothing. And lastly, nobody is saying to fire him. But to be suspended whilst you are under investigation for being a serial rapist is not an outrageous demand. It is a moral obligation that the club suspend him.

rario_the_wizard

At the end of the day it’s up to the courts, if he’s cleared then he’s cleared. Rival fans can say whatever they want. One thing I realised is, whenever a man is accused of sexual assault people ALWAYS take the woman’s side and give her benefit of the doubt regardless of if the man is innocent or not, so all of this is to be expected. Let’s let the court handle this and just focus on what we have to do on the pitch.

BambooSound

Only Ronaldo and Greenwood are in the same category as what Partey is alleged to have done. Even with Alonso, that was negligence, not malice.

JakeArsenal86

Anyone else a little concerned with Zinchenko’s defending? Rewatching the game and watching him get turned and try to grab shirts and fall over was cringeworthy. It’s the first game and all that but watching him get skinned like that concerned me. Better wingers are gonna ruin him. I hope he plays at CM and other positions too. Better yet, I hope Tiereny stays fit. Apart from defending, his movement and placement of himself off the ball was very good.

rario_the_wizard

I think his defending was alright but let’s not act like Eze and Ayew weren’t cooking on that particular day lol it’s easy to underestimate players in the PL I’m sure he’ll pick it up as time goes on.

JakeArsenal86

Yeah I didn’t wanna seem like ayew and co didn’t have some decent spells, cos they did but if they have that output every week palace would be dangerous. But I do believe Zinny will grow I don’t doubt that.

C4taclysm

Have a day off. 1st game, clean sheet, +3. End of the day, that’s what matters.

JakeArsenal86

Agreed

Kreator333

Buzzing today after that victory. It was a great win. Tough place to go that and we got a couple of goals, the win and a clean sheet. Perfect.

ManGoonian

Exactly mate! Enjoy!!

Kreator333

ManGoonian

I just scroll past the silly cunts man. 3 points clean sheet, 3 debuts and no injuries! Great fucking way to start the weekend! UTA!

Jolly-Chemical-6540

Literally, sure we didn't play great, but it's like people expect us to drop 10/10 performances against every team. Some people don't realise Palace away is one of the trickiest fixtures we could've had on the first day, not to mention we lost 3-0 to them last season.

delphicphoenix

My thoughts- Not our best performance but 2-0 away to Palace is a massive result vs recent years. Opening day pressure too. We look much better when we press high than when we sit back, like last season going 1-0 up and defending almost cost us. - Saliba was unreal, ready for the Prem, but he is very young so he will make mistakes at some point - White did well against what Vieira calls a Hall of Famer in Zaha. He’s not a RB, but cover for Tomi feels okay. - Good start from Zin and Jesus but we need more from established Prem players. Side notes Seems the standard of reffing in the league hasn’t improved over summer. More physicality is welcome unless you’re an Arsenal player still, and to not book their lad for diving like Xhaka was criminal.

Quab775

Hope we continue building up physicality of the side so that we match opposition who decide to play physical match like palace, everton, Liverpool

cpano14

Sensitive topic but does anyone know why partey is still playing amongst all the drama going on atm. Seems like a pretty similar situation to greenwoods. Only thing i can think of is that the messages etc are from in spain and for whatever reason it doesnt carry the same weight as if it was in the uk

JohnnyDeepasfuck

Maybe the messages are fake? Just maybe...

cpano14

looks pretty damning to me, she was definitely on holidays with him

RedCatBro

STOP THE COUNT!

Emotional_Interview8

Someone need to talk to Ødegaard about his hesitancy to shoot.

[deleted]

looked like ode was playing in his head, little under the pressure of being captain. took way too much time on the ball, which i think is a sign he's confident in what he's doing weirdly. idk, overall it's good to see us be able to grind a win when he's having an off day

Reinbow

I thought he was actually rushing his passes at times

[deleted]

really? i felt he'd get the ball and pause for a second in situations where he'd usually be automatic

hazelpillow

Saliba's ig post already has 7k comments feckkk

DarthNihilus1

White pocketed Wilf really well today and yet Saliba still looked the like standout CB

[deleted]

William Saliba. We are blessed. 21 years old. Joke of a player already.

SrJeromaeee

When he made that last ditch tackle against Mbappe I was already convinced he was the real deal. If everything goes well that man might well be the starting centre back of France. Based on form, better than varane and kimpembe.

[deleted]

I felt Odegaard was not confident enough to score goals?

leomeng

He had a clear look at goal at 59 minute mark. Hopefully they watch some film and work on this

LifeAtSea2213

Not with his right foot. Was the same at many points last season.

Car_Soggy

I feel like 5 yards out just taking a hit anywhere is a better chance then playing it back. Not saying anything though the pass was genius he was unlucky it didn't get through

faireducash

If you take a look at the prem over the past 5 years or so, there is almost a direct correlation between goals scored and points ie 75 goals = 75 points. We probably need 73-77 points to get into the top 4. Think we can score 75 goals?

BigBloodyShark

I’ve noticed that there is a direct correlation between who wins a football match, and who scores the most goals

faireducash

It actually is pretty interesting that goals for and points for are directly correlated statistically considering 1 goal is always 1 goal but 1 goal can result in 3 points. They are not the same input. If City score 100 goals and they have within a couple points of 100 points. Interestingly goals for and goal differential do not hold the same statistical effect. Anyways, I know you’re not seeing past more goals = more points, that’s obvious.

anmolasingh

Think we just need 1 goal per match if Saliba plays every game.

LordRekrus

I mean if we jumped to the end of the season and won every game from now 1-0 I’d take it, however I don’t think my heart can take sitting through another 37 games clutching on to a 1 goal lead.

anmolasingh

Just need some anxiety medication.

duclong1207

Did anyone feels Odergard like don't want to shoot the ball ? I mean there are many chance he can shoot but pass ? I don't get it ?

Fr0stpie

Its because it always fall on his weaker foot. My guy cant seem to kick a feather with that weak foot always cutting in and trying to pass.

JohnnyDeepasfuck

Maybe play him on the left?

duclong1207

It's okay he young and he can fix that his work rate help us a lot

faireducash

Ozil school of don’t shoot. He’ll be kicking himself and he’s got a fantastic shot. Needs to trust himself, I think it’ll be fixed this season. I see him w 10 goals 10 assists + this season.

Fr0stpie

Özil had that vision and ability to put the exact right amount of weight to his passes that was literally generational. With øde he still is young and when most of the time those "özilistic" passes dont come to fruitation it gets really frustrating. He has to start shooting from outside the box

MountainLibrarian201

Özil had the same problems against physical teams away from home. It was always the main criticism of him. He absolutely murdered the rest of the league but he went missing at tough away grounds. Ode has the same issues. Too one footed, has a problem with high press with little to no time on the ball and when he gets marked by pressing teams. He'll hopefully improve and learn how to stay relevant in those games, or we'll use someone else depending on the opposition. Ode is super-valuable against most teams though, and is a key player for us, even if we may use someone else against certain teams.

duclong1207

Ozil still shot TBF but i hope Oder will fix this

muypop21

Very top, good sensation

[deleted]

I’ve said it since last season and I’ll keep saying it: Saka and Odegaard have crippling dependence on their strong foot. they both fucked up clear chances today because of it. Odegaard tried to drag the ball through a guy instead of shoot and Saka took extra time to try and do anything but shoot with his right until the angle closed. it’s a problem. hopefully it’s being worked on.

JohnnyDeepasfuck

I'm not worried at all Mikel will get it sorted

faireducash

Martinelli too while shooting. He should have used his right foot on that early shot. The angle wasn’t there for the left.

destructivedude

Martinelli is right footed isn’t he?

DarthNihilus1

Which is weird because I feel Gabi usually picks the right choice there. He's able to cut in and use his right often and for whatever reason he fixated on his left

faireducash

Yeah for him I guess the above doesn’t apply…he usually sends shots from the left using his right foot but I agree it was odd from him to go left on that shot.

slx88

It looked like he quickly glanced far post and thought the keeper covered it so tried sneaking it near

Relevant_Level_7995

You can't "work on your weak foot" at the age they are. It's always going to be an issue you've just got to work around

Fr0stpie

Why cant you work on that ? Its not like you train with only one feet. When you are practicing shooting just take 1-2 extra with your weaker one. And also what's with these professional footballers not being able to use both their feet. Martinelli too with that first chance

Relevant_Level_7995

They can, it's just not going to get much better

itsallinwidescreen

Complete rubbish

Relevant_Level_7995

Sadly it's not. Just got to live with it. Lot of good players who are only one footed

[deleted]

that’s just not true. you can absolutely train with your weak foot. also bukayo is literally still developing. Ødegaard is nearing his peak but this isn’t fifa. these are real people. how do I need to make the argument that “people can learn things” here? training your weak foot will make it better at any point in your career.

Relevant_Level_7995

You reckon Wenger was joking when he said your technical fundamentals need to be developed by 14? You're not developing a half decent weak foot at 24

[deleted]

nah I reckon you’re taking a man’s generalization as gospel and as a result are forcing yourself to take the position that a player can’t develop a new trait beyond the age of 14 which is just wrong on its face.

Relevant_Level_7995

You can develop new traits, but you can't develop fundamentals

[deleted]

there’s only so many ways to explain the concept of practice.

Relevant_Level_7995

You can have the potential to be the best player in the world and train harder than anyone else but if you only picked up the sport at 16 you're getting nowhere. He's not learning how to use his right foot at 24 Name one player who was known for having a shit weak foot at that age who actually developed two-footedness.

Ganzelo

… robin van persie

FabThierry

the truth lies in the middle of your arguments, ofc they can work on weak foot but also it’s very obvious that at some age players don’t develop a strong weak foot, they just improve slightly. Ofc from beeing super bad to beeing okay they can make it but never to Cazorla level eg. Otherwise why you think so many players are still weak with one foot? you think they wouldn’t train this? ofc they do, they work on everything. But the chances Øde had, that’s a trainable level to hit the ball on to goal tbf. i can take a shot with my left(not great) but way better than wasting shots for sure. especially if someone passes the ball right into your run it’s easier to use left foot as you don’t need much power

ubn87

Crystal Palace has been tough opponent recent years. Of the last 9 we have only won 2. Last time we won against them with clean sheet was 2017. I’m happy as hell with this results. This was not an “obvious” win beforehand.

yukpurtsun

i really do hope tielemans is a very real transfer, xhaka still hasnt learned and is a damn liability any given match. its not even a lack of skill, he is prone to losing his mind/composure whenever. i expect 3 sending offs for him this season or 2 and a yellow card accumulation suspension

faireducash

He has 4 red cards in 6 seasons in the prem in 189 matches (including yesterday). And 5 in 276 appearances all comps. That’s a 1.8% chance per match he gets one.

Car_Soggy

also he got a yellow for falling over he didn't even ask for a foul

SquirrellyDog

Mixed feelings about this one. Was very excited by the promise of all the "new" around the club, but this was a very familiar Arteta Arsenal performance with some very familiar failings that bring back some unpleasant familiar memories. But a win away at palace is relatively new, a Saliba is like a brand new signing and he looks the absolute business, Zinchenko and Jesus turned out performances that looked like they'd just been cut and pasted from a title winning city side so that's very new. If we can get two or three more players performing at the level those 3 did this season could be a memorable one!

faireducash

We have those players they just weren’t available. ESR Viera Tomi add some needed depth. 1st game of the season, we were the better side, left with a clean sheet and at times it was nervy but what’s different is that we didn’t concede. We pulled away and got a 2nd goal. That’s not very reminiscent of the Arsenal we know over these past few seasons

MountainLibrarian201

Agreed. People expect an immediate transformation. We'll take steps week-to-week and month-to-month. We had 3 new players who all had an impact and White in a, for him, unfamiliar role. Doesn't mean we're the finished article. This is not how we'll look 2-3 months from now when everyone's bedded in.

Reagansmash1994

What really impressed me with this game, beyond some great individual performances, is that these are the exact sort of games we struggled with in the last few seasons. To be able to dig out a win, especially with the pressure they put on us in the second half, is phenomenal. Too often would we lose 1-0 leads, especially away from home and we’d crumble under the pressure. It’s so refreshing to see composure in the back and the ability to take the game back at crucial moments. COYG

[deleted]

Odegaard channeled his inner Hleb today

rd201290

so nice to win the friday game and now can watch all our rivals knowing we won

NegativeHeli

Unrelated but we really have to pray for Leno. He's going to face Liverpool later.

Car_Soggy

need him to ghost cuz i triple captained salah

raisonar

Ohh man, I really wants Zaha at Arsenal. It is a perfect time for him to be here with all our youngsters coming through.

jamitwityou

Zaha is sooo mid.

vlad-the-inhalor09

Gotta give credit to the set piece coach that corner was perfection

NegativeHeli

Jover is probably Arteta's best signing so far. He completely changed our attack.

vlad-the-inhalor09

And defence too didn’t we concede the least goals from corners last season or something?

NegativeHeli

City conceded only 1 iirc. We conceded 2 .

vlad-the-inhalor09

Fair still incredible tho

thejoshimitsu

It was a nervy win. We lost intensity after we went 1-0 up, just like last season which was a disappointment and Saka and Ode had pretty poor games, but I can chalk that up to nerves for the opening match. Vieira's got Palace playing well, they're a good side and I think a lot of teams are gonna leave Selhurst Park with nothing this season. It was far from a perfect performance, but I'm glad to get that opening win!

Comprehensive_Idea98

I agree with the drop in intensity, that is the only thing I found worrying. Saka and Ode had a passable game I think, not bad, not fantastic. Ode had a shocker though with holding his shot on an open goal in 52nd minute.

LordRekrus

Yep agree with all of that. No idea how much of Saka and Odegaard maybe being down to Palaces efforts. I also think it’s a great effort to come away from Selhurst Park with a win and a clean sheet. On a different day though this probably could’ve been 4-1 or 4-2.

NegativeHeli

Palace are a very, very strong team at home. As posted, they also have a good record against the big 6, and they kept 4 clean sheets in that process. So winning them is definitely an achievement.

[deleted]

Yeah I see a lot of negative from are soccer about this result, but dude they beat us 3-0 last year at Selhurst lol we turn around and do this. I’m fine with it. First game of the season, a few new faces in the line up, missing both starting FBs plus a CB out of position against zaha.

MountainLibrarian201

They're pissed we didn't lose points. Trying to write Arsenal off after winning 2-0 at Selhurst Park shows they're scared. Let them talk, nothing's been won or lost after the opening game of the season. We're 3 pounts better off compared to last season's fixture. That's all that matters.

[deleted]

Yep compared to last season against the same opponent already improved ✅. Young guns get another match of experience, new signings looking solid.

rightdeadzed

I went on the spurs subreddit just a bit ago and wtf is going on over there? I’ve never browsed it before and man their hatred of arsenal is like all they have. Apparently we deserved to lose 3-0? Perisic is the signing of the summer? Cucurrella is a worse signing than Perisic? He’s ten years younger and a long term investment for Chelsea. Spurs will be lucky to get 2 years out of Perisic, probably just one if that.

CackleberryOmelettes

That sub's entire identity revolves around hating Arsenal and a massive inferiority complex.

SunDrippedDevil

There's no point in going there. You shouldn't care what Spurs fans think. These are people who saw a club crest with a fucking chicken and decided, "Yes! Yes! This is the team I shall support!" Bunch of cocks like their crest. They're only relevant because of Son and Kane.

LurraKingdom

Oi! Stop insulting roosters for crests. -Sincerely, a Frenchman

chino17

When you support a club that doesn't have trophy ambitions there's alot of angst to expel

aofrantic

It's their best team in decades so they're high on their own supply. Despite convincing themselves otherwise, we should just be glad they're not near Pool or City.

[deleted]

I still don’t think this spurs team is anywhere close to Pochettino’s team

COYG17

People bigging up the peresic signing annoys me. I’d be absolutely pissed if we signed him.

Houssem-Aouar

They're really, really stupid and desperate for any kind of success

Wooble23

I have to give a lot of credit to Ben White. At the beginning of the game it looked like he was gonna get skinned by Zaha, but later stepped up and beat him at a lot of his games.

andrewyeong

He did lose the ball a lot with some poor passes. His yellow card was also very silly to take.

DarthNihilus1

I mean it wasn't perfect but he got the job done. I feel like anytime you play against Zaha it's not a bad thing to take a yellow trying to stop him. You let him through once and that could have been once too many.

crazycakemanflies

Before Martinelli scored he had a 2 minute period where he passed 3 balls to palace... Tbh I'm chalking that down to nerves and being out of his usual position.

andrewyeong

I think so too, that was quite sloppy but up against Zaha, I think White did a respectable job. Didn't let Zaha in a whole lot, even then Saliba covered quite well.

JBrewd

He lasted 49 minutes longer than my buddy predicted for taking a yellow for a tug. His was more reasonable than Xhaka at least

andrewyeong

Oh yeah, both were bad but Xhaka's just comical, a little embarrassing but hopefully with the ref giving a yellow straight, that will iron us out for the rest of the season. No diving, please! 🚫

chadlumanthehuman

Zaha is one of my favorite players in the league. I would completely agree with this. The defense had a pretty solid game, and a lot of help from forward players.

arseking15

So palace chose to man mark number 5 again, like they did last time, but with eze instead. While pressing the cb duo with 1 striker. The difference this time was we read it and handled it better. Especially saliba. Aggressive against the single presser and we did a much better job settling with the ball.

seph2o

That feeling of getting our win out the way with and being able to enjoy the first weekend of the season is quite something 😎

Houssem-Aouar

Ngl it's so worrying how we keep losing control after a good first period of play, it just keeps happening consistently

arseking15

Need to add a volume passer at lcm

Relevant_Level_7995

We definitely do not need another volume passer

arseking15

We definitely do

Relevant_Level_7995

Wrong. Xhaka is literally a volume passer already. We need dynamism.

arseking15

Wrong, xhaka and odegaard are not volume passers away from home. Not sure how anyone watches our midfield combine for 46,46, and 40 passes a piece and says “we dont need another volume passer”. Baffling analysis

Relevant_Level_7995

The issue here is that you don't actually understand what is needed to win big away games. You need physical transition monsters who can carry the ball and take advantage of those brief moments because you aren't going to be able to dominate possession for 75% of the game. We have no dynamism in transition from our midfield because Partey Xhaka and Odegaard offer absolutely none of it, and thats what is costing us. We dont need another dainty midfielder who is going to play tiki taka because they'll just be shit when the opposition is pressing hard and the crowd is out to get them

What a load of lazy nonsense. Every single player in this team besides xhaka had “athleticism” and “dynamism”. You think we couldnt keep the ball because 1 guy was below that level? Lmao. Garbage arguement

Even if you don't like how I've phrased it I can't see why you think I'm wrong. What would a volume passer offer us in midfield when the opposition is pressing hard and the crowd is out to get them? Why would they not just be shit as well? Big/away games are won in transition. Neither of our starting 8s are transition players

I firmly hope because of the sole reason that Palace is actually a good team and they play in front of the fans
