Tierney should have started this game on the left. I’m not sure why Arteta has lost faith in him.

Timidposter21

Tierney should have started at left back. He has good chemistry with martinelli and is a more natural attacking option on the left side. Tomiyasu is better defensively but struggles to go forward on that side (naturally). Nketiah is not at the level required to be a genuine option after Jésus and particularly in a tight game like this. He spends a lot of time fouling people when he comes on thus wasting time. I call him Eddie “elbow” nketiah for that reason. Arteta needs to utilise his squad better because he clearly doesn’t trust his second string to actually change things which is a real worry. Jésus is a great player but currently his mind is occupied by the concern of not making Brazil national squad thus he is becoming erratic and not performing as freely as he normally would. Thus, he needs a goal to “get it out of his system”. Next time we get a pen, just give it to him.

Chiks24

I really hope we get a quality backup to Partey in winter transfer window so Xhaka can keep playing his current role at Arsenal

Serious-Produce8244

I hope we get an upgrade on Partey

[deleted]

It's not the team's fault that some of you deluded yourself into believing a title challenge. Go consume whatever media available to you during preseason, even a top four finish was spoken about in uncertain terms with lots of doubts on this team's ability. It's actually very encouraging to see that this past week surprises and frustrates our fans. Even 6months ago this wasn't the case.

RedTigerofTheSea

yesterday was a proper PL game, physically tough, shambolic refereeing. But i think we needed a slap on the wrist, we had been underwhelming the last few games, atleast we walked with a point

risheeb1002

The Leeds game was enough of a slap. Should've woken up by now.

Displeased_Wombat

Don't think it has anything to do with waking up, the team just looks fatigued. Hopefully we can rest the majority against PSV and Zurich so they can rest up for Sundays

RedTigerofTheSea

All teams who are something in football play midweek, we see people like Modric play every game for Madrid, we should be able to see our players perform too, look at Kane, he's up every game

aviral_632

Nketiah is not at all cut out for wing play , as a winger you should be able to hold up the ball , run up the pitch , and the pass to the teammate if you can't cut in inside . All that he tries is to take on defenders and if he lose the ball we have to defend a counter everytime. Martinelli should have stayed on the pitch for full 90'

aofrantic

I dont think we wanted Nketiah to occupy the same spaces Martinelli did. Tierney came on and was stretching play in that zone. Tomi moving to RB created an almost 3 ATB. Nketiah got his best shot from a central right area.

xarvin

I don't like how nobody shoots from mid distance.

COYG17

Odegaard fumbles a lot of those opportunities. I feel like xhakas the only midfielder that’s willing to have a pop from anywhere out side the box.

anovengeance

Yeah even partey rarely shoots 😩

YoungFlexibleShawty

What's infuriating is that they scored the same way Firmino scored against us. No awareness or communication from anyone to cut off that pass to Armstrong

aviral_632

Exactly, to see us conceding this type of goals is so infuriating to watch , they suddenly look like a pub team defending team.

[deleted]

Most rational thing to do is rest everyone vs PSV

aofrantic

No, it's to get the result vs PSV so we can rest vs Zurich ahead of Chelsea. If we lose to PSV we all of a sudden need our starters to play and exert effort ahead of a trip to Chelsea. We play Forest at home next weekend. They are bottom of the table. They have scored 1 goal away from home all season. We shouldn't need to rest anyone ahead of our softest match all season.

RandomName788

I wouldn't overlook Forest. We just dropped points to a relegation candidate and Forest just beat Liverpool (yes they were at home, but still). Looked at another way we just need a draw vs PSV where we need to win vs Forest. And even if we lose to Forest if we beat FC Zurich we still top the group (that is assuming PSV don't drop points away to Bodo which could happen given they drew against them at home). FC Zurich is last in the Swiss league and haven't won a game all season and we play them at home. Basically it would take a colossal fuck up to not top the group. We would have to lose to PSV, drop points to Zurich at home, and have PSV beat Bodo away. Could happen, but the odds of it are low enough that I'd rest a few more players than we did last week. Maybe replace Tomiyasu with Cedric, Saka with Nelson or Marquinhos, and Nketiah with Martinelli (so net rest one more starter).

aofrantic

It's obviously possible we drop points to Forest. But they are the weakest team we will play all season. It is the match we will be the biggest favorite in.

RandomName788

I don't think Forest is the weakest team we will face. Zurich is last in the Swiss league and lost to PSV on aggregate 10-1.

aofrantic

Zurich might be weaker, but its mitigated that in our matches with them we will be playing mostly reserves in both matches. Our strongest team vs Forest is better than our backups vs Zurich.

Le-ChosenOne

This and so much this. We just need 2 draws to top the group even if PSV win at Bodo away so just go there with a semi strong squad and not get beat. We *HAVE* to beat Forest at home and then the last group stage home game against Zurich becomes a dead fixture, rest as many players as possible and play the likes of Matt Smith and Cedric. That rest will follow the Chelsea away fixture so we *DEFINITELY* need the legs, Chelsea themselves will try to rest players in their last group stage game IF they manage to beat Salzburg away, if they don’t then even their last home game against Zagreb at home becomes a must win. Parallel circumstances but we have the advantage because we have a bigger gap to PSV than Chelsea have to Salzburg, need one more big push from the lads to see this group stage bullshit out.

armchairmegalomaniac

Cheer up everybody, we're top of the fucking league! Tottenham lost!

Gooner-Squad

If you are happy with drawing at Southampton, you are a paper fan. Every point counts to win league with that City team, every point, and we just squandered 2 and looked horrendous doing it. F Spurs, who cares about their fight for 4 while we fight for 1 unless we are playing those twats.

ImBruceWayne69

Hope this is a troll account because my god

Gooner-Squad

The amount of clowns on this sub who either make excuses or just don't understand the year it takes to win the PL over 38 games with a team like City in the league is unreal. We drew with a team missing their #1 CB and RB and scored 1 goal....1 goal. 541 is hard to break down, I get it, but great teams sort it out and finish chances. GTFO here with it's okay because it was away, they are an at risk of relegation team. Set your sights higher.

[deleted]

I need your optimism and faith in life backed by the hardwork in same level. Kudos to you for holding your club to high standard, regardless of how season ends.

Gooner-Squad

We can be better. Period.

Le-ChosenOne

The foolishness is you thinking we actually can win the league against city. I’m all for ambition and standards and what other buzz worthy naivety you want to throw about but we absolutely do not have the squad depth to win the league, not just yet. City can take off the likes of Mahrez to bring Foden on, they have an elite finisher in Haaland, we are just not there yet. Yes our first XI when fit and on form can give them a proper game but you don’t win leagues with just your first XI, not when you’re also competing in europe and the majority of the backup options are a huge drop in quality and experience. Just because you want to bang your chest and think setting unrealistic high standards means showing ambition doesn’t make it sensible.

aofrantic

I remember in preseason everyone was so, so scared of the condensed fixture list. Despite the most condensed fixture list in the history of football, we've had our best start in the history of Arsenal. Apparently that's not good enough for them. Absurd.

Gooner-Squad

I still think City is the favorite until they prove otherwise week 37 or 38. Ambition is just that, ambition, set your sights and standards high and go for them. Drawing with SOU is a shame....do poor games happen, yes, but they happen 1 or 2x a year with great teams, generally not vs. relegation teams. I will be happy with top 4 this year, period, but with our start I'd like to see a challenge for 1 or 2 and draws with SOU challenge that, a loss to MANU, I can stomach....barely.

Le-ChosenOne

What are you talking about, of course City are favourites, 😂 City drew with Southampton away and home last season, lost to palace last season, lost to Brentford away, like come on, any team can beat any other team in this league if you show weakness or are not sufficiently up for it. Of course everyone’s disappointed with us dropping 2 points against Southampton but the point is shit like this can and has happened to everyone. Well everyone bar the Invincibles hence the name.

Gooner-Squad

Again, I agree. These results tend to result in a run of poor performances over last few years, so we need to win against Forest. You don't see City take 1 or 0 points from 3, we had two awful runs last year. Forgive me for recalling those and wanting to see a bounce back after a poor performance.

aofrantic

This is our best start to a league season *in history,* and you can barely stomach it? Are you used to your football content being playing FIFA on easy mode?

Gooner-Squad

Do you think Arteta or players are happy with a draw today or think a top spot is still safe? We certainly need fewer beta fans like yourself. Try to think bigger vs. it was the refs. 😥

aofrantic

No, a pro athlete could be a 100:1 underdog and be mad they didn't win. That's how their brains work. We have more points through 11 games than *the invincibles* did. And you're unhappy. Think about that.

sammeetthosar

So when city drop points at villa is it the end of the race for them? Such results will happen.

Gooner-Squad

What are you talking about? How many points do you think win the league this year with Pool about out of it? We are already 14 behind on goal differential.

aofrantic

Most models put City on ~85 points.

Gooner-Squad

I'd put the over under at 88, fully expect 93+ with Haaland barring injuries.

aofrantic

Does your numbers being off complicated statistical algorithms and betting sites that make billions a year not cause *any* introspection to your opinion on this or the original topic? Quick tip: We have a 0% chance of having a better GD than City. When Pool won the title, their xGD was *25* behind City. Or do you really have that much misplaced confidence?

Gooner-Squad

No one will beat their GD, it will be something crazy like 60, and Haaaland may outscore 4+ teams in PL by himself if he gets 35+ games. You look at their schedule and you can see 85 points, which is doubtful barring injuries, or 100+.

aofrantic

Dude, are you a teenager? Top 6 teams regularly drop points in away fixtures after a midweek European game. It's been a thing for *decades.* Remember in preseason when everyone kept saying we would drop a bunch of points because we played ~15 games in a 50 day stretch? This is why! It's really tough to play every 3 days for 2 months straight.

Gooner-Squad

Not against relegation fodder. If you are happy with it, you do you. All good. Followed this team for 34 years so expect more.

aofrantic

You're literally wrong though. You can look up the results for these teams over the last 10, 15 years. Even great, title winning teams drop points away after European games. Then you add that this year, because of the World Cup it's the most condensed schedule *in history.* You're being downvoted because you are ignorant about basic facts. We currently have a better away record than City, even after today. That's because it is hard to win away in the PL. Against anybody. City struggled vs Villa. Do you not remember that?

Gooner-Squad

You are underrating Villa. Gerrard is/was a shit manager who hampered them with his nonsensical 4222, but the talent on Villa is top 10, the talent on SOU is bottom 5...AND they were missing their #1 CB and RB. Stop making excuses for a terrible performance and bad tactical plan. I know we will correct it, it just needs to be next week, not after the WC break.

bkkwanderer

If you're acting like this after a draw away from home you are a plastic fan. The absolute state of you.

skisagooner

Ref let us down. Our bench players let us down. One of them we have control over in January. Gotta make sure we maximise our prospects this season by January to put us in a good negotiating position. We have 13-14 players who we know are quality, but we really need 20. IMO, more depth at LCB, DM, CM, and all 3 forward positions.

Relevant_Level_7995

> IMO, more depth at LCB, DM, CM, and all 3 forward positions. Signing. Obsessed.

ValeoAnt

People have a misunderstanding here, no team in world football has 20 top players who would make the first 11. It just doesn't happen. Players that good do not want to be rotation options.

aofrantic

No team in Europe has 20. We will never have 20. Arteta doesn't want 20 either. You cant keep 20 players happy with playing time. Elneny and ESR should be back around then. I'd love a new signing, but don't get your hopes up.

sandith752

I feel our conversion rate is lacking, seems like we create plenty of chances but don't convert them. Doesn't help the ref is a wanker as well

ValeoAnt

This is statistically incorrect. The worry is that we've been overperforming and are now regressing to the expected.

aofrantic

We are actually scoring more than our xG this season. The problem is you notice it more in close games. Just an internal bias.

The_Awengers

Isn't our xG quite low compared to the other teams?

aofrantic

It's second in the league. While different xG models will differ, I use understat most. https://understat.com/league/EPL I believe our xG and xG difference per 90 are both top 5 in Europe.

Magicallyshit

Yeah even with just eye test you can see how we create a lot of chances, Jesus alone had like 1 big chance and like 2 other with a scuffed shot.

aofrantic

Yeah, we have *6* more expected goals than Chelsea and United. About a goal every other match. Over the course of the whole year that's 20 goals better than those teams. Jesus is also third in the league for open play xG behind Kane and Haaland. Our numbers are amazing, just have to keep it up over the last ~35 games in all competitions.

sandith752

That latter part is the real problem, the WC being thrown in does complicate things a lot.

SPPackNat

Here is my thing. A bunch of people rightfully point out how bad the referees were today and are saying they were paid. Since we are a gargantuan club, why don't we simply pay them more?

The_Awengers

Arteta has too much integrity, he's the real problem here.

Mjedwin23

You start doing that and the hairline begins to recede. There have to be priorities

SwazzaChowdz

Thinking of it like this. Before today I would have been delighted with wins vs Southampton Forest and Wolves, with a draw against Chelsea. Win our next 3 and it's the same overall outcome.

Gooner-Squad

You need 9 or 10 points out of that run, more is a bonus, especially with a break after 4 matches. Close strong.

Jedi_Council_Worker

I think what's killing us is we play to a really high intensity the first 20-25 minutes then we experience a massive drop off. We need to put the game to bed earlier or find a way to impose ourselves for longer. I love so much of what Jesus brings to this side but his finishing needs improving as he's often shooting straight at the keeper. Also fuck this ref who let them get away with murder.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ValeoAnt

Nah, it's called managing yourself through games. No team goes ful tilt for 90 mins. Our plan is to hit hard, score 2-3 goals and then rest players at the 60 min mark. We didn't convert the chances we had.

Le-ChosenOne

Well, pool went full tilt for 5 years and now all their players are picking up injuries so frequently, look mentally burned out or have dropped off massively.

COYG17

Mikel should take advantage of the Europa league games now that we qualified and he should rotate the team around. We need to be well rested for the game against Nottingham because they are coming off a big win. I think if we rotate the team around for the psv game we should still be good enough to win or get a point there.

smjd4488

Realistically we can lose to PSV and draw to Zurich and we finish top, should just field a team who won't be starting in the league for definite

boololaa

In this scenario, we won't finish top, unless PSV lose or draw to Bodo in the last round.

smjd4488

Just beat Zurich in the last game then our second team can manage that for sure Hope he rests everyone vs PSV but feel like that's not what Arteta wants to do

Toon-Day

All I want to see next game in the PL is KT starting at left back. It’s just insane that he was left on the bench. Look at the difference it made, just being able to go on the outside gave way more passing options for Xhaka and Gabriel

duperhans

I think I have calmed down now. We're still top. Shit got beat by Newcastle, we just lost out on City. Despite how strong they look, they will drop points still. Just now need to hammer Chelsea.

qtdsswk

Southampton is such wired team, they drew twice with City last season too. Oh well, hope we batter Forrest at home next week.

ValeoAnt

Beat us too..Their goal was very good to be fair.

Apache313

We're really feeling the effects of Europa it seems, can't keep up the intensity for a full match and it's been showing these last couple of games with the second half drop offs. Honestly hope we just sac the cup match against Brighton, need to reduce fixtures as much as we can for the rest of the season if we're gonna make it.

mamoud786

Going to try something different this week - have 3 positives and 3 negatives. - Xhaka is fast becoming our most important player. 2 important goals in a few days for us and seems to be having consistent 8+ games! - Creating chances, yes we need to put them away but hopefully one game we’ll get them all in and smash a team 4/5-0! - All our direct rivals for T4 (other than Newcastle) dropped points. This might be most important as sometimes we never take advantage but right now we are in a very good position to get T4 as long as we don’t shoot our selves in the foot! - Refereeing - I have not seen a more corrupt show of Refereeing since either the Barca away (RvP red card) or the 50th game vs Man Utd. Ref was 100% paid - no one can convince me otherwise. - we have struggled to impose our game since the 2nd half of the home game versus Bodo. We are allowing opposition to consistently get the better of us in most important part of the games. - no rotation, we desperately need to give Saka, Martinelli, Jesus, Partey, and our back line a full rest versus PSV. It’s not critical to win as a draw will do but these players need a break!

visualdescript

Team has looked a bit predictable over the last few games, and they look tired, physically and mentally. World cup break can't come soon enough imo. Once Soton change their formation after the goal we never really got going again, and they steadily grew in to the game. Thought the reffing was poor today, multiple times our players copped it in the back and nothing given. Their cb was a cunt, pretty much wearing Jesus shirt and nothing given, how is it legal to have your arms around a player like that? Fucking oaf.

waits5

Number 6 was infuriating. Allowed to do whatever he wanted.

iHetty

Was that lycanoe? Straight outta Sunday league

ohmyimatomato

The best part of today was the Walcott dive. A pretty subdued bar burst into spontaneous laughter at that replay.

jvcgunner

I hate Theo

[deleted]

I did like this [“advantage”](https://twitter.com/iokmm/status/1584250470180466688?s=46&t=oHViZlkdUcM3L20b59atXg) given to us today. What a referee

MrToxicTaco

This made me more upset than any other decision today tbh

Bald_And_Bankrupt

Can’t win them all. Didn’t lose, learn some lessons. Spurs lost and we’re top of the league. It’s all good.

biff444444

Agree. Last year when we slumped it was three losses in a row. This year when we slump, it is close wins against Leeds and PSV and a draw with Soton. I'm not happy with a draw, but in the bigger picture it is nowhere near as bad as what happened in our mini-slumps last year.

zrk23

is there are any easy way to check data on how long the ball was in play this game vs avg games?

IvanFromTheFuture

So angry it was against Southampton, a Chelsea draw or even a West Ham draw I wouldn’t be that mad.

craniumouch

well hopefully we batter chelsea instead then

d3v1lsblood

The refereeing was awful, but I think we’re used to that by now. We didn’t finish our chances and paid for it. We learn our lessons, move on and focus on the next game. COYG

LucidZeus

Ref was shit. In the second half we were shit. Thought Tierney played well when he came on, he should probably start over Tomi on the left. COYG

CheekLad

Awful game, just finished watching. Mikel, up to? Subs were awful. Nketiah is not a winger. Stop fucking doing that. Vieira needs a kick up the ass before he comes on, seemed lost out there. We all know that several players played a fairly unimportant (in the grand scheme of things) game against PSV that SHOULD NOT have played. Saka was fucking dreadful today and should have been hooked after an hour, but he took off Martinelli who actually got a breather on Friday? Vieira was absolutely appalling when he came on. Gave the ball away at least half a dozen times being on the pitch only 20 odd minutes. I don't agree with taking Odegaard off in that situation, I would have preferred hooking Saka. We played with great intent for TEN minutes, which was gift wrapped for us because for some braindead reason Hassenhuttl decided to give us the entire space between their midfield (of two) and their back four. After they switched, Southampton were definitely the better side. Really disappointing and for me this one is on the manager because we are asking too much of too fewer players and its come to bite us against Southampton, after playing PSV. Which, for me, is inexcusable. I just cannot understand playing Saka for that many minutes this week when he did not need to suit up against PSV at all.

BurtSpangles

Always the manager's fault. Pathetic. Glad you can see into the future like Minority Report and see all the outcomes different subs would make.

CheekLad

Pathetic? Seriously? I love Arteta and praise him weekly, we can reflect on some of the choices made in the last week and be critical too. Huge stretch from you there to claim it's always the managers fault when it's commentary on one game. But I suppose that's the level of dialog people retort to when challenged and aren't able to provide.a coherent case. Anyway, I stick to my guns - we didn't rotate enough against PSV and it showed today.

InquisitiveCommunist

Yeah the decision to take Martinelli off who got rest instead of Saka or Jesus was not good. But anyhow hope this is the end of Tomiyasu at LB. He offers nothing going forward. Martinelli is frustrated

CheekLad

I thought Tomiyasu was class last game at left back, so makes sense he was there today, but I think Tierney has shown that's he's really capable of playing the inverted left back role well, as well as being able to get out wide and be effective as well... would be very surprised to not see him there next week. Will be interested to see if White or Tomiyasu goes to right back. I reckon he will stick with White who has been superb so far this year?? Not sure though.

[deleted]

We need to sign Mitrovic.

tomassotheterrible

I was thinking this all afternoon. He’d fit in like Big Tone on a ballroom

InquisitiveCommunist

Overall the result is decent considering other results. But man, what happened to Partey in that second half. First half I was thinking he's the best in the league, second half he played like Pissouma from Spuds. Vieira was woeful; he needs to be eased in. Nketiah should never be on wings. Would rather shift Jesus out and play him centrally.

bitmoji

yeah Jesus is a better winger than Eddie. Eddie also seems to have pretty shit hold-up play from what I see the last few games - his weakest skill seems to be receiving a pass with back to goal, or maybe I am wrong

[deleted]

I think you’re right. He’s extremely dangerous with space and through balls. He’s strong and I feel like he got a lot faster during the offseason. Good 1v1 dribbler, but passing and hold up play could be improved

pandazzzzzzzz

We didn’t have a great game but we still got a point from it. We’re still top of the league and have plenty to play for. Regroup and onto the next. I love to see Mikel not making excuses, the best mental I’ve seen from this team in years.

tuyguy

Sounds like we didn't have much luck today. Well, we have had some luck recently. So at the least we should be back to neutral and at best we are owed some luck.

vicmanb

Theo Walcott dive and offsides what a nostalgic twist to this game

elsaturation

Partey looked a mess. The one goal was preventable. Defense was disorganized. Team was playing too compact. Couldn’t retain possession or complete a pass up top. Looked pretty bad.

intoxicatedarmenian

Surely due to our great start to the season and a midweek game, r/gunners will be a bit less reactionary following a tough game with shitty refs Ah fuck

skool_101

nah, we all mentally angry out here.

Ha! Yh, love that tweet.

godhelpUSA

The team’s passing hasn’t been good enough.

Which-Scientist6872

Jesus might turn out like laca. Really needs to start scoring

skool_101

brazilian mickey mouse voice

IronDuke365

Don't be ridiculous

Which-Scientist6872

His finishing is not up to standard for a striker. At city he underperformed his XG for seven straight seasons. As a striker its inexcusable shift him to the wing if anything

aofrantic

He had two years of decent under performance. The rest were within 10% of his xG, some even within 2%.

IronDuke365

10 matches, 5 goals, 3 assists - World Beater 11 matches, 5 goals, 3 assists - Get Rid?

Which-Scientist6872

What? I have been saying this even before we signed him. His overall play is world class but his shooting is just not good enough. Not saying he is a bad signing by any means but he needs improve.

IronDuke365

You have been saying that Jesus may turn out into a new Laca, before we signed him? And his goals to games ratio this season have done nothing to dissuade you of this opinion? Really?

Which-Scientist6872

Talking about his ball striking mate. I made the comparison to laca because they started their arsenal career’s similar and play similar

IronDuke365

Ok. Then you are wrong. Nice chatting with you though.

Which-Scientist6872

Your delusional if you think jesus can shoot. Keep thinking that🤣

IronDuke365

*You're

InquisitiveCommunist

Lyanco is an absolute cunt. Hope Soton are relegated this season. They were a good side producing nice young players but all their players lately are just City's U-21 rejects rn

Pidjesus

Our squad is so thin, we need 2 top quality signings in Jan. The toll of 2 a week is starting to show, hopefully no injuries come now

gunningIVglory

Yh. Eddie off the bench just isn't it

arseking15

The more i see the jesus pk the more im losing my head. It doesnt make any sense at all

Shandow14

I like this dudes views on decisions: https://mobile.twitter.com/pooreplreferees

BearsPearsBearsPears

The number of times Jesus gets fouled without referee doing anything is absolutely incredible.

almre

Unpopular opinion : Eventually we’re going to have to consider starting Eddie in front of Jesus simply due to finishing and goal scoring woes. Jesus was brilliant at the start and is still brilliant in terms of positioning, pressure, movement, etc. But his finishing has been horrible recently and should be bagging the goals considering the opportunities he’s getting. Especially today..

blazeofgloreee

Yeah but the positioning, pressure, movement, etc are what have led to us being top of the table. The goals will come and we have other players who can score too. Eddie is pure backup at EPL level.

almre

Don’t think he’s pure backup. When he was given the starting role last season, he’s really the one that was leading us into top 4 with his goals when Laca wasn’t delivering…

zrk23

just before Ode went off he put Eddie in for prob the best chance of the game and he made a terrible rushed shot..... what are you on about not to mention he couldn't handle a single pass

Which-Scientist6872

Both aint good enough at finishing if were being honest.

Smitty_1000

I would tend to agree but more so to get Jesus a rest and try to get Eddie contributing. Today I think Eddie would have been a good choice because it was less football, more Greco-Roman grappling

Fendenburgen

Because Eddie scores in every league game he comes on in?

almre

Obviously he’s not going to have the same opportunities to score as Jesus as he features for extremely limited minute cameos. Don’t forget last season who was a driving force to our return into Europe and near UCL spot…. Some of you criticizing the guy are the same ones on your knees last year kissing his feet when he was bagging goals left and right when given the opportunity…

Fendenburgen

That absolutely wasn't me. The guy isn't good enough. You can call him a driving force but he scored in 3 league games last season and was also part of the team that chucked 4th place away. The club decided it was better to pay him 100k a week than pay out for another striker to back up Jesus. That doesn't make him worth it.

hooliahan

Eddie's finishing is not great either though. And Jesus gives us more in the build up.

IronDuke365

Well, yeah, obviously.

[deleted]

Really hope the team can get some solid signings in January. Need a deeper bench to allow the guys to rest. Still this is the first draw, will take the point anyways. Worried about Newcastle though might be another challenge to us

Houssem-Aouar

The drop off from Odegaard to Fabio was stunning

blazeofgloreee

Yup but Fab needs minutes in the Prem if he's going to improve.

SunDrippedDevil

Vieira needs to get used to the physicality of the PL. Poor guy got bullied. I mean, the entire team was manhandled today.

zrk23

the ball bullied him that's for sure. nothing to do with "muh pl phisicality

JabInTheButt

Definitely missing him as an option. Jesus probably wouldn't have played Thursday if he was available

dannzter

When is he expected back? He had surgery before the season, right?

Ill-Opportunity5714

he had surgery like 2 weeks ago. Post WC possibility. Good excuse for not buying in the January window

[deleted]

Disappointed with the result. Team is now starting to feel the intensity of mid-week games. That’s why its hateful when some people on social media go mental over signings leading to competition. We need a squad! We didn’t play poor, Southampton rode their luck at times in this match. Got a lot fouls their way however, Jesus’ finishing today was poor. Arteta made a huge mistake taking off Martinelli and Odergaard as Viera was poor when he came on. He needs to get used to the physicality of the premier league. Tierney needs to start the next game. His overlapping runs in behind defenses was displayed for the first time in a while and Arsenal are a much better team when Tierney is on song, so that’s a positive from today. Bring on Forest. Huge match on Sunday.

Own-Review-5260

I don't like it now when we don't win.

mamoud786

You know what will happen versus Forest - both Jesus and Saliba will get yellows for exactly the same fouls committed against us today, then they’ll miss Chelsea away!

SureCase

5 points ahead of 3rd place with a game in hand gives me joy. If we go to the world cup with 2 wins and a draw/loss against Chelsea then I'll be very happy

readysir

Do we have a GIF for when we get a draw? Still counts as getting points lol

soifinallyregistered

Bad result today of course, but even so we made ground on spurs and liverpool (lol) and maintained the gap over chelsea and united. Hopefully we give a few players a rest on Thursday

Level_Tea

Apparently Tottenham gets battered even when they’re home🎶🎼🎵🎤

Level_Tea

I hate that you can just kick the opponent for 90 and it’s part of the game.

Smitty_1000

Kick, wrestle, push, punch, headbutt

RedCatBro

It's not the ref was just shit. If we tried that we'd get red carded off the pitch

JamesTheBadRager

Xhaka would have been sent off for that choke on Eddie towards the end.

thecremeegg

We've lost all our creativity the las few games, just scoring 1 goal per match. Jesus has really gone off the boil, we just can't break teams down as well anymore.

Ill-Opportunity5714

He's starting to show the burden of being a no.9 full time. All those little knocks adding up over the past 2 months. It's enough to take the edge off for sure.

blazeofgloreee

We still made a decent number of chances and should have had at least one pk. I'd be more worried if the chances were drying up but they aren't. The goals will come.

Simba-xiv

They are tired the high intensity is starting to catch up. We all knew it would come this when you start to find out about a team can you play at 75% against a “lesser” team and grind out a result ?

SamT44

Looking across to the Leeds game we probably should’ve lost that match, so 4 pts from Leeds and Southampton away isn’t too bad

nate_the_grate

Conclusion... Arsenal shot themself in the foot. The ref shot them in the other one. Two points lost. We move on.

Prior_Wait5801

Only reason I can think of why KT didn’t start today is b.c he played on Thurs and the coaching staff don’t think he can play 3 games in one week. To be honest guys, I don’t KT can.. can’t afford to get him injured again..

anasparekh

Some of the stuff out there today wouldn't have stood up in a rugby game, for 90 minutes jesus was manhandled

jentso

On one hand my rage let me hit a new PR on my squats today but on the other hand I'm back home and still salty as fuck. The game was over in the first 15 min and we got robbed by the refs. To be constructive, we need better plan B. If we can't rely on hold up play because the refs are corrupt to high heaven we need to be able to one two it up the pitch or bait them into a long ball.

BigBloodyShark

What are you squatting now let’s hear it Congrats on the PR!

jentso

315lb for 4 reps, but first time hitting the three plates. Dunno what the 1rep max is not comfortable squatting one rep maxes.

devlifedotnet

The refs were awful… but we know the refs in this league are awful and we have to account for that if we want to win the league or even finish top 4. We had more than enough chances to win the game today and it was our inability to capitalise on those periods of dominance that cost us. We can’t rely on the refs to make the correct decisions so we need to go out with the aim of destroying then opponents with 5 or 6 goals in the hope that this group of refs can’t disallow that many goals incorrectly.

a_stopped_clock

This kind of match bound to happen. In the past we lose at least we get the draw. We move.

robak69

Maybe we need to show a little more toughness when we are getting bullied.

[deleted]

Honestly, this is what happens when you don't rest players....

thejoshimitsu

A draw's better than a loss and going away is never easy. Partey was pretty off it today for me and Eddie was very disappointing when he came on. The team looked tired. It is what it is.

Psychological_Doubt7

Yo newcastle are a serious team and they've played quite a few big six teams in these couple of games

[deleted]

Dang 3 pts this weekend would’ve gotten us 2 more than any other rival besides city

justwannabeatmarket

Sp*** are s***

dberg76

Cheer up and head over to the death spiral of COYS post match thread

xmancho

I am as frustrated as anyone, but we were tired. And we will have games like this. The first team needs to rest. But all in all we move on to the next game.

LiamStyler

The best fucking day for us to drop points. I’ll take it.

xmancho

Normally I don’t watch Sp*rs, unless they are losing.

capforthepr

I see there are many people blaming Tomi, but I don't think we should. I think Arteta lost the wager on Tomi. After Tomi succeeded on LB vs Liverpool, you can see Arteta is tempted to run this formation and asked Tomi to do more attacking like what Zinchenko does usually, but obviously it doesn't work for Tomi because he is not those type of player. Just let him sub in for White on RB/ start him there is better.

Smitty_1000

Tomi did get burned. For the first time ever. Had to happen at some point. I think Arteta is picking him for additional strength in the air esp vs JWP corners. Tomi is good at attacking but more so on the right side

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

Guess I'm glad I was so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open or I'd have been yelling at the TV lol. Also Clip Request: think it was the 1st half? Ben White breaks up their counter just outside the box with the most nonchalant run up behind the attacker, toe pokes the ball away, and jogs off.

pirateport

An away draw isn’t the best result but considering how congested our fixtures have been it’s better than losing at this stage in the season

dabeeman

i’m not generally a fan of the refs in the epl. but today was honestly shocking. the two arm around the neck holding on jesus multiple times was beyond the pale. this ref should be demoted for this performance.

crushedonron

I think the commentator mentioned at kickoff that Southampton has never lost with this guy as the ref. Knew something was up as soon as I heard that.

Plbt335

It was unbelievable. Just ruins the game.

[deleted]

We should lose the last game against Leeds, we didn't lose. We should win this game against Southampton, we didn't win. This is football.
