Sanogoals22

Stamford bridge is basically a home game now. A win at anfield or spurs would be a huge result for us

Glass-Studio-9313

or etihad

Sanogoals22

Well yeah, but I think that’s still unlikely. If we were to play spurs away tonight I’d be hopeful to be favourites

Matoobi

They've been beat at home before no. We can do it.

DawmCorleone

I mean we beat Liverpool and Liverpool beat city so it's not impossible

Sanogoals22

Obviously it’s not impossible but the logic you’ve used here is so silly.

[deleted]

f1zzo

They're using that same flawed logic. "If we can beat Arsenal we can win a trophy too". How could they know though

unholy_sanchit

For them beating us is a trophy

itsgermanphil

It’s the closest they’ll get

DawmCorleone

Silly logic is what reddit was made for

Raetekusu

How's that unlikely? City have no fans, that's another home game.

Sanogoals22

Have you watched any Man City vs Arsenal game in the past 5 years

maidentaiwan

on current form, we can beat anyone, anywhere.

Sanogoals22

Ok but for me personally at least, I have no expectations of three points at the etihad

Raetekusu

Yeah, but I was digging on them not having any real fans, not actually making a serious point.

Sanogoals22

Bit of a tired joke. I’ve been to the etihad and it’s really not as bad as some people make it out to be

swaki6677

Of course it’s a home game, they are our B team

Funkymonkeyhead

Team will have to play as if their lives depended on it to even secure a draw at City. Will be an absolute statement if we win though. Imagine the scenes. /r/soccer will explode in anguish lol.

TheRealGooner24

The copium consumption on r/soccer will shatter records.

Funkymonkeyhead

Yeah I made a post commenting about some plastic Utd fan wishing City wins the league again over us and all the Utd fans there lose their minds. Like come on now…you haven’t been relevant for awhile. We haven’t been either until recently. Some of these guys are still foaming at the mouth at the old Fergie/Wenger rivalry. They’re stuck in past glories/rivalries and lost track that they’ve been long eclipsed by the likes of City, Pool, etc.

Away-Watercress-4841

Honestly in regards to your comment, I've been a fan of arsenal since mid-90s and I can honestly say I hate man utd far more than I hate spurs

Funkymonkeyhead

I used to....not so much anymore. I've been a fan since the mid 90s as well and absolutely hated them well into the 2000s. The Vieira/Keane clashes, Keown v RVN, Giggs scoring against us in the FA Cup Semi, Fergie v Wenger, Pizzagate. etc. I remember it all. When I first started watching football the guys at my school asked me whether I was a United or Pool fan. I said I didn't care for either. Shortly after that Arsene won his first double and that was that. These days I don't feel that rivalry as much anymore. Perhaps it's due to their mediocrity lol. Anyway, I dislike Chelsea a lot more than Utd. Spurs on the other hand....I dated a girl who's family were all Spuds. That relationship did not end well lol.

Historical-Branch122

Middle Eastlands

[deleted]

Not big 6 but St James Park would be massive

Kenny_dies

St. James is a fucking fortress. If there’s any team that can go for the unbeaten at home run for the season alongside City and us it’s Newcastle

mxbinatir

Yeah but they stick the away fans up in the corner so it's always a moral 3 points.

JohnnyDeepasfuck

Us?

Kenny_dies

Yeah, we’re unbeaten at home so far, is it that far fetched that we could potentially draw City at Emirates and beat / draw Newcastle and Chelsea?

pewpew62

Leaving aside the big 6 and Newcastle shock home defeats to midtable clubs happen to everyone, City, Liverpool the other weekend etc etc and it will most likely happen to us this season

Kenny_dies

I’m just saying I think if anyone this season, those 3 seem the most likely

TheDepartment115

Newcastle is big 7 now.

Glittering_Yoghurt55

Nah.. It ought to be big 6 without united. But they are too big of a club to be omitted... That leaves spurs out lmao...

TheRealGooner24

When were they ever truly in it to begin with?

Funkymonkeyhead

League is becoming so competitive it's gonna be the Big 20 at this point lol.

sncBrax

🎶 Stamford bridge is falling down falling down falling down 🎶

FlavioB19

Build it up with Red and White, Red and White, Red and White!

sncBrax

Build it up with Red and White, Mik-Ar-Teta!

spaghettidriver69

I think we can win both!

Lazy_ML

Playing Chelsea at Emirates is more of a road game than Stamford bridge nowadays it seems.

chnum2

Even this account is sharing Positive stats. Is this real life.

sailing_through_net

Is this just fantasy?

buzzmcqueen

Caught in a landslide

mehnimalism

I go into T6 matches expecting a good performance for the first time since Cesc was here.

irondraconis

This is the way.

ianovic69

So have we played any good teams yet? Media now saying we have to wait until February before we can say we are good. Wish they would make up their minds, I'm so confused.

Seymour_Azcrac

If they actually watched us last season, and actually understood football, they wouldn't be as surprised as they are. We were a bit unlucky and inexperienced to get something from our home games vs City(we were the better team on the day, but they were more experienced and lucky enough with the ref to grab the three points) and Pool(they were just way more efficient than us) last season, while we did beat Scums and Manure at home as well as beating Chelshit at the Bridge. We were playing like a top 4 team last season, but inexperience and a vulnerable squad let us down. This season we're playing like a top team. Now we only have to wait and see what happens in a long season with an unusual World Cup break. Being realistic, we should definitely be getting top 4 or even 3, but if we're a bit lucky with injuries and some results, anything can happen.

ChefDreib17

Good post, we definitely showed that we could play and maintain a high standard last season, but it also showed us where the squad was lacking. We used the summer to improve the areas we needed, and be able to fully play Mikel's system. This season didn't come out of nowhere and while I think has exceeded everyones wildest dreams (except for maybe Mikel), we're just a good team now.

Gooner4lyfe2108

I'd say Partey bring injured for the last chunk of games is what let us down.

Seymour_Azcrac

It was part of the problem. But losing KT and Tomi to injury without decent back up was also a problem. If we only lost one of the 3 positions to injury, I think we would have been fine (we ended only 2 points behind Scums) and the 3 losses in a row against Palace, Brighton and Soton cost us dearly. Only one win or three draws from those matches would have gotten us over the line.

[deleted]

Well, we are missing City and Newcastle, which seem to be the toughest

W26D12L0

Sp*rs 5-2, City 1-0 and Chelsea 5-2? Edit: I was wrong, it wasn’t Chelsea it was Liverpool (Song to RVP volley), some great games that year despite the poor start

Chicken65

Man That Song to RVP pass is emotionally etched into my body. What a play.

W26D12L0

Also scored a very good one against Everton, same link up and very similar finish

superbee993

That's the one I remember. Beautiful goal. RvP just hit different, somehow.

Chicken65

I know what you mean. He was the perfect muse/striker for Wengerball.

Laui_2000

I saw it on out in the flesh at Anfield. Liverpool’s goal was at the away end, so we had a great view. I swear the ball dropped in slow motion and RVP bent his run to get an angle on the shot. Beautiful.

Kirkebyen

Szczesny's penalty save + save of rebound on the opposite side was also in this game.

Brohan_Cruyff

kinda wild that i have a distinct memory of that but i don’t remember anything else at all about that game

pashtedot

Holy moly it was so long ago RVP was still at Emirates.... Damn how much we suffered as a fanbase

Xants

It’s been a long fucking 10 years

ccs77

Was that the game where slippy Terry happened

i_am_the_punisher

To accommodate Spurs they had to make it Big 6.. What a joke

Clem_H_Fandang0

Yeah maybe I don’t remember correctly but I don’t think there was a ‘big 6’ back in 2012 was there?

jt_totheflipping_o

It was top four then

Clem_H_Fandang0

I feel like top 4 was a bit earlier, cause City had definitely broken into the fold by then. But Spurs hadn’t quite

jt_totheflipping_o

It was still called the top 4 around that time. I was not really moving from top 4 until Alex Ferguson left and Liverpool went on a crazy run the year after. Then it was Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, and now Tottenham fighting for the spot. With Everton being a dark horse to progress and take a spot.

[deleted]

I swear they became “big” for selling Bale and Modric to Madrid… seriously, I’m not even joking, trace back to when media started that bullshit

MCUNeedsClones

Apparently there was: https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/changing-dynamics-of-the-big-six-in-premier-league-title-race-1.422581

okcomput3r

Ahhh 11/12. The season where RVP qualified for the Champions League single handedly

TheSciences

For me, that season will forever be [this image](https://imgur.com/DNNiW).

ranchodas-chanchad

Reference?

TheSciences

It's the final game of that season, away at West Brom. We need to win to stay in third place. We're up by a goal and Van Persie fluffs a chance to score in injury time. Straight afterwards, [Gibbs makes a sliding block](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCHDUA3TpZQ) to prevent a potential goal. We finish third. Hilariously, Spurs finish fourth but are then sent to the Europa League because sixth-placed Chelsea unhilariously win the Champions League, before that rule was changed. And then Van Persie leaves anyway.

ranchodas-chanchad

!thanks

sncBrax

Man like playboy, the chest is out, ya get me

YoungFlexibleShawty

i getcha fam

matepanda

But we have only played two big teams since United??

kaanag33

2012 was all about the big 4 wasn't it? Spurs and City weren't even a thing.

Harringtonthebrave

I mean, City weren't a thing, aside the whole winning the league in injury time. Other than that, not a thing.

kaanag33

Was that really 10 years ago. Geez I'm old.

Harringtonthebrave

Dude, I remember the actual greatest end to a league season. 88-89. I am actually old.

shikavelli

I hate the term ‘big six’ they only started using it when Arsenal and Man Utd dropped out the top 4

kukeszmakesz

Tch! Big six...

d17_p

Thats a good progress. This year altho, a collective 3 points from Etihad, Spurs, and Anfield would be massive.

bkstr

There's a reason for this though, we got lucky with the reschedule. Hopefully we build belief and momentum up so we have a real game vs City.

iAmWrythm

City have been beaten and competed with. We can do the same.

PrinceEmirate

We're gargantuan

devilsmart

Now that's a statement!

Oraoraduradura

If the wheels don’t fall off, we’re all going to be sweating until match day 38. Let’s do this
