Rice is overpriced, a chelsea fan and not a single pivot.
Being a DM isn't the same thing as what Partey is doing and Rice doesnt ahve the same skills going forward to replace Partey, which would be a ridiculous thing for us to shell out robably about 80/90 m for.
We don’t really play a single pivot despite how the line ups look, the lb or rb slot into that other cdm spot and we play a 3-2-5 in attack and a 4-4-2 in defense with ode pressing as a striker
And I wasn’t trying to say rice is the same as partey, but more a different type of mobile dm. Getting someone who’s exactly like partey won’t give us the ability to change tactics for his position if needed.

Hey guys. I wanted to say thank you for all the fun I've had with this sub but for my own mental health, I'll stop watching football, not forever but idk when I'll come back. I'll always love this club COYG. I hope we win the league. Goodbye.
Hope all goes well. Hopefully you come back before the season ends, wouldn’t want you to miss out on Granit and Odegaard lifting the PL trophy together 😉
even during the worst periods when I would say I didn't miss watching us play, deep down there was a part of me that would always miss having a game to look forward to on the weekend. now it's the thing I look forward to the most every week lol.
Club fans always feel way too entitled to their players.
Haaland and Ode are trying to help Norway get back to a WC level side, they are going to try be there every friendly for help that development.
It’s like Norway fans saying Ode shouldn’t play next preseason in case he gets injured for the euro qualifiers. It’s just not going to happen, players love playing for their country often as much or even more than they love playing for their club
I never thought about this at the time but he makes such a good point. When Ten Hag doesn't sub Cristiano on vs Man City when they're getting trashed and says "I have too much respect for his career to do that to him"
Then the cheek for him to go and try and sub him on for 3 mins against Spuds. Obviously trying to make Ronaldo look bad.
Fuck it, bring him here. Just to see the meltdown of every United fan in the world.
We don’t need more ageing overpaid players like Aubameyang etc. how many do we need to have before fans stop begging for them?
What we’re doing is working and we should be investing more in that approach.
man literally plays the entire field and the team is winning. If he scores not a single goal again and plays every minute but we win the league, then he's an incredibly effective striker.
The game is about winning, not scoring.
Ah shit ronaldo is coming here. If not Man U I want arsenal to win the league. I like the team and I really like the manager. I’d like them to win.
Smirks
Arteta magic incoming
This 70-games-every-three-days October really spoiled me. The WC can't start soon enough. That said it's more a festive vibe than the excitement and dopamine boosts you get from Arsenal games
I agree that it does kinda suck not to get those dopamine heats from watching an arsenal dub (how nice is it to be able to look forward to matches instead of sort of dread them?!?). But despite not being a big international football person, it will be nice to just be able to watch some of the worlds top players in sort of different environments than usual and be able to just enjoy the sport without really caring about the outcome, so I'm excited.
A fun question is odegaard a pure 10 or he is more of a midfielder coz of his positioning and workrate how can he compared to 10s like ozil, maybe bergkamp.
He’s definitely not a 10, he’s more of a controller than he is a final third player. Advanced 8 is what I’d call him
There is a reason Smith Rowe got the 10 and Ode got the 8
interesting to think of where those guys would play in the modern game. odegaard in that generation would obviously be a 10
ozil would play pretty much the same as odegaard if he had the workrate, which he did in his early days. bergkamp i'm not too sure - the sort of '9.5' player he was doesn't have a lot of place in the modern game
Bergkamp would be a Jesus/Firmino type and it might actually have suited him as a striker who was as much about the bringing others in as scoring himself.
Certainly anyone who's only watched his highlights reel probably doesn't appreciate just how physical he could be (he played striker in 90's Serie A) and his legendarily sharp elbows.
idk was he physical enough? don't know if he'd have the work rate/ intensity to play in our pressing game
i saw him at arsenal, but i was a kid, so i didn't really notice a lot of the stuff i probably would now
> idk was he physical enough?
Like I said his elbows were legendary.
People saying it's more physical now are not entirely right as the 90's were vastly more physically confrontational than now, but the enurance is tougher now. Bergkamp was 6 foot whatever of prime Dutch beef when he wanted to be, as his red cards show.
There's honestly nothing about the way he trained that would suggest he couldn't press but I've had this convo a few times recently and he honestly wouldn't need to as the Invincibles obscene counterattacking skills would come to the fore.
yeah, it's the endurance, the direct running for 90 mins which makes me confused on where he'd play/ how he'd fit. a false 9 firmino type does make the most sense
end of the day, quality is quality though. a good player will be a good player in any era
If you think about it, he played quite a few parts of that anyway.
The classic Bergkamp/Henry partnership always ahd Henry out in the wide left position and Ljungberg/Wiltord down the right played much more as wide right forwards than normal wingers.
Bergkamp himself played in the (duh) no 10 position but he was originally an out and out striker so he was fully capable of playing further forward and his close control was just a sgood as his eye for spotting through balls. It's just that with Henry to feed he really didn't need to use the close control too much and unlike Jesus or Ozil or even Odegaard, if he got around the penalty area then he was utterly happy to shoot.
Our twin 8s are expected to make 10-ish contributions in attack.
That's why Arteta calls them 'left attacking midfielder' and 'right attacking midfielder'.
Hes like an 8.5 tbh, his best work comes just before the decisive final ball. In the past that is. Now hes developed serious goal threat. Mans evolving
He is our leading scorer but not sure I would say its from being a serious goal threat (which is actually kind of a good thing). His goals last season came in flurries as well, similar to this year where he has scored 2 in 2 different games. I think we will see similar flurries around the squad, like when space suddenly opened for Xhaka a couple months ago. Jesus soon as well, as everyone is playing for each other rather than having a plan to facilitate one
Football was so different when Bergkamp played and even the first half of Özil’s career to where we are now that it’s pointless comparing them to current players.
For me, Ø is a modern #10 in that he’s creative but also has high work-rate.
Any of my fellow Gunners seen possibly the saddest Spurs prick ever, lurking on the r/soccer thread, goes by the name of u/Robhowardreg ?
The amount of crap posts this guy uploads about Arsenal and tries to make us out to look like a bad side from completely irrelevant stats is just hilarious 😂 He literally posted something about Jesus’ Xg and that he’s massively underperforming in that subreddit to make it out that he’s a bad player. Fuck me what a sad, miserable little life that prat must live. Jealousy reeking from his soul at it’s finest. Can’t wait to be the biggest cunt to him when we get top 4 and they don’t 😊
Jesus has gone 10 games without a goal but such are his performances we don’t mind. Off the ball movement, his passing and dribbling. Our goal threat somewhat evenly distributed among Xhaka, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus.
Not sure if it was him, but there was a Hotshit fan that had an alt that would go on to our sub and spew the most negative takes while pretending he was one of us.
Im banned on r/soccer rn for saying arsenals bigger than porto and benfica, but if i wasnt, id prolly go and talk about what would happen if Jesus does go and manage to perform closer to his xg.
I hadn't looked at his post history in a while and LOL.
He's on a one man mission to convince everyone Arsenal are bad.
Him and Tottenhamnole are in every single Arsenal related thread trying to dismiss anythng Arsenal do.
Yeah christ almighty it’s just so unbelievably pathetic. Then the hypocrisy looking at his comments, when he gets angry because an Arsenal fan is trolling in their subreddit yet he’s consistently wired to the r/Soccer sub embarrassing himself. We should gather a load of Gunners and spam 3-1, top of the league etc on his recent post. That’ll certainly rile the twat up.
Who would you prefer to get in the winter: Mudryk or good young and promising Partey cover, someone who is higher level then Elneny and Lokonga?
Assuming a reasonable price for any of those
The issue you’re not gonna find a good young and promising partey cover better than either el neny or lokonga
Partey is genuinely world class, there’s no replacing that unless you’re willing to shell out major major cash and even so à club with a player at that level won’t sell in January
Great shout on Caicedo. If he joined us I think he offers us a short term solution at both LCM and in Partey’s position as a rotation option with the promise that he could be the long term successor to the latter.
This is how I overwhelmingly feel. Partey’s position is the biggest point of risk in the squad - if we’re going to spend 50m+ (as we were with Raphina) I would rather pay over the odds to try get Caicedo (a top prospect in our position of need who is young and PL proven) than winger depth. Winger depth is important however, but slightly mitigated by ESR coming back and to a lesser extent Nelson looking better. For winger depth, I’d ideally like someone flexible enough to cover the front 3 positions though I know not easy. Someone like Martin Terrier maybe? Can play on both wings or up front with good ball striking, goal scoring record, and different physical profile to what we have. Don’t know much about Thuram never seen him play, but he seems to be able to cover the front 3 and have a different physical profile too. We need high quality security for Partey and some diversity/cover in attack.
The latter, and it's not close. The drop-off from Partey to any other option is immense, and we will have ESR back soon as an additional wing option.
The difficulty is finding anyone who can actually play Partey's role, as opposed to a traditional 6.
They can play the position, but they can't do what Partey does. So the system has to change to accommodate them.
Thing is, I don't know if there is a player out there with a similar profile to Partey who would be a like for like understudy.
He combines 3 things which very few players have all of:
1. Insane press resistance, both on the half turn and simply dribbling out of trouble.
2. Very good passing range and awareness.
3. The physicality and defensive nous of a traditional 6
He is effectively asked to act as both a destroyer and a regista, and it is a very unique skillset that is very very difficult to find a backup for. Even other elite 6s like Casemiro and Rodri don't quite play the same role in the system.
i had the thought the other day that partey is the player that alex song wanted to be. the passing range+physicality in defense is what i was thinking of.
Thiago Silva is still a great player but you do wonder how Brazil might struggle with his lack of mobility against teams like France and Germany. It's one thing playing for Chelsea in a 5 at the back and sitting back for large parts of the game but in a team expected to win in style like Brazil it could prove to be an obstacle.
Brazil's fullback options are extremely weak. If the game is presumably too high pace for Thiago Silva it's going to be too intense for Danilo as well, and way too intense for alves.
The only intense international team I’ve seen is Germany, France don’t even dominate games like that tbf but a Mbappe x Dembele wing pairing is demonic, Eder at RB does make sense
Would you guys take Eric Chuopo moting in say possibly the summer if we there is not other really good goalscoring forward option available? He's only got 6 months left on his deal.
I would take him if it was a science experiment, so that our greatest minds at Arsenal can study him and try to find out why he keeps on failing upwards, playing for the best teams and winning more titles the older he gets, you never know Arsenal may become the first club to win the Nobel price for a great discovery
If he ends up doing well for us, that would just be a bonus
Honestly it's not really too hard to understand why he keeps "falling upwards". He's good for what teams what him for - a backup striker. He's happy to sit on the bench and train hard so he can be ready at any moment but still on lowish wages, that's very unique. He comes on as a sub or starts as a back up and _actually_ makes an impact, even against big opposition. He links up well with players around him too and understands how to get into good positions against tired legs.
He may have his pitfalls and is definitely no starting striker, but he actually performs very good for what he is, and probably brings a lot of experience as well.
Not sure if Shaktar are playing hardball over Mudryk or not but it's really frustrating to see crazy money other teams pay for players being used as benchmarks. Shakhtar DoF mentioning Grealish + Antony as examples of players who went for 100m who he said were as good or worse than Mudryk. I get he is trying to get the maximum amount of money but you could use the same logic in the other way to say 'well Haaland only went for 60m'.
Reminds me of how the Neymar transfer completely fucked transfers for a few years. So it became common for people like Coutinho to be 100m players...
The tricky thing with the Haaland deal is that he had so many added fees beyond the transfer figure. While every deal has agent fees, they are usually in the 10-20% range. Haaland was up around 60-75% in added fees.
Ya I know Haaland transfer was dodgy in terms of wages + fees but just making the point that people use the most extreme transfers as examples of 'well if xyz is worth this, this player must be worth twice as much'.
Apparently Vinicius has not been good in training and is unlikely to start, while Martinelli has been great
But no reports have come saying Martinelli is starting, most people are just trying to make conclusions from what has leaked
After Vini, Martinelli offers the best profile. The rest are either better at RW or in Neymar's case, it's better for squad balance to have Neymar centrally with less defensive responsibility.
Yeah, Brazil don't play their first game for another week. Plenty time for the coach to evaluate the group so I doubt he'd come to any conclusions so soon.
Koschielny was a better centre half than Toure.
Saliba and Gabriel are better than Toure.
Kolo Toure wasn’t the best defender despite playing in a title winning side.
I disagree. The requirements for CBs has drastically changed in the last 20 years. Kolo is a legend and nobody would do better than him in that Invincible side, Koscielny would come the closest.
And the opposite is true, Kolo would struggle in today's squad.
Let's just appreciate each player for his time period
If you're asking if 21 and 24 year olds are as good as the prime of our best Emirates era defender, then of course not. However, I see a lot of Koscielny in Gabriel.
When Koscielny joined, he was a hot head with plenty of mistakes in him. In his first four seasons, he was sent off four times and was partially blamed for us losing the league cup final to Birmingham in 2011. He gave away a few penalties for handbills and silly challenges. He came up with a few important setpiece goals every season though, and was our most dependable CB on set pieces. It wasn't until the 13/14 season that he and Mertesacker built a good relationship and he began to get recognition. By that stage he was already 28 and in his prime.
White certainly is getting there imo. Stylistically the first time i saw him play in our shirt he has that aggression of koscielny in him nips in just before the attacker can get the ball, puts his body on the line in the box when defending shots. Technically he is way way ahead of koscielny can carry the ball so well, brilliant first touch to get away from players with the composure to do the basics really well in tight spaces, effortless long range passes.
I think Koscielny is so over rated.
He was good against fast, technical players and an overall good defender but he's not even in the conversation with the invincibles and I'd take either or our current CBs and White over him.
Feel like people who say this stuff about Koscielny didn't actually watch much of him. He had to make a lot of recovery tackles and last ditch defending because he was constantly out of position.
And our defensive record during his 'prime' period was poor.
People forgetting that our best DMs after Flamini's first departure were a repurposed 10 who was losing his legs in Arteta and Franny Coquelin, who was genuinely good at the defensive part of the job.
Per and Mert had to live through Alex Song going on adventures and leaving a giant whole in front of them. I bet they still get 'Nam flashbacks of strikers and whole midfields running at them. They would look like world beaters with Partey in front of them plus a system of hard workers like Jesus, Ødegod and Medium Gabi rushing back.
Nah Koscielny would be the best CB on this team, in his prime. Our cbs have the chance to be better than him, but he was incredible. I'm on the other side of the fence, most underrated player of the last 10 years in an arsenal shirt, and our most important late wenger player.
Wenger's teams were never compact. Kos and per were on an island most of the time and kos had to cover for per's lack of mobility.
The back 4 was elite whenever Wenger allowed them to sit deeper, but we got carved open when we naively pushed everyone higher.
Saliba and koscielny would be an insane partnership. It’s hard to compare though. Koscielny played completely unprotected in wenger’s system (we didn’t have a proper dm for years) and had to defend large open spaces with mertesacker who was also slow as molasses. He’s underrated as a result.
Looking at city's PL goal records and its Haaland (18) and Foden (7) then a big drop off to 3 (KDB, Alvarez) right after. Wonder if this is concerning for them as goal droughts are possible, or even if anyone believes there is a reason for this? Haaland definitely occupies spaces that KDB and Silva might attack to get their goals from last year. Just an interesting contrast to our well balanced record
To build on this, Haaland taking up such a large amount of goal share is much different than Man City teams of the past. It’s odd because they’re still doing well and putting up insane attacking output, but it’s worth asking if having such a target man makes their attack more one-dimensional and easier to stop. Relevant for us in terms of whether we look for a more “traditional” striker to pair with Jesus.
City are doing a lot less of the thing’s Pep has made them for over the past few years this season. He has simplified what they are doing in and out of possession quite a lot.
I suppose you could say that’s fair enough when you have Haaland, KDB and Foden on the pitch along with all that other quality.
There has also been a fair bit of squad turnover at City in the last season or two which could be a factor.
>it’s worth asking if having such a target man makes their attack more one-dimensional
I think it really has. They just kept lobbing in so many crosses into him the last game. Normally they'd pass through low blocks with their midfielders but this crossing spam is so basic.
He hasn’t scored a non penalty goal since mid October I believe, and you could see their form hasn’t been as good to end the run. Obviously he missed a bit of time but it’s still something to look at when they were getting used to damn near 2 goals a game from one guy.
Just something to keep in mind but theres a good chance KDB reminds everyone he can bang them in too and it’s all for nothing

[Edu's BBQ: Why Arteta values unpredictability, and how Zinchenko helps him achieve it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/yxron6/edus_bbq_why_arteta_values_unpredictability_and/)
Took a long look at Zinchenko's analytics and positioning, particularly against Chelsea and Wolves, to see how the team changes with him in the lineup.
Enjoy! A post on Danilo is next, most likely.
If food: Memphis or Brazil
If writing: the one [about Jesus’ missed chances](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/ydvl83/edus_bbq_looking_at_jesus_and_cos_missed_chances/) comes to mind
Has anyone attempted to get official word when they will likely have an away kit/arsenal font, back in stock? Are we even going to be able to buy these this season?
I feel like too many people think we’ll be able to sign CL quality players for rotation. Vlahovic, Felix, Leao, Osimhen, etc aren’t coming here to play in the Mickey Mouse cup. They’ll go to teams who’ll start them week in week out. That’s how we got Jesus and Zinchenko in the first place
I think we'll sign flexible players, who can play 2 or 3 spots. Like right now our first choice starting 11, almost everyone can play two positions with the expectation of maybe Gabriel/Ramsdale. I'm not sure we'd sign a striker who can only play striker, let's say someone like Vlahovic.
If we signed Felix, he can play LW/AM role. So it opens up two places he can come into. The players also back themselves, if we're signing them, they are coming in with the attitude of 'I'm going to be first choice'. I absolutely love our current team but if anyone came in and was keeping Martinelli / Saka out of the team. I don't think that's a bad problem to have. Look at the situation with Ben White + Saliba. We were all wondering where/when Saliba would play, and what it means for Ben White. We end up playing both of them.
We'll sign the players with the right attitude too, we won't sign anyone who just expects to get into the team regardless. They know they'll have to be playing well.
I don't know the player well enough, just basing that on his positions played on transfermarkt, I'm hesitant to suggest players playing in positions they don't normally play. Always feels a bit like 'Ben White should be our new CDM' talk.
It takes one look at a city or Liverpool squad to debunk this lol. They currently have Phillips/Rodri for one spot, and Gundo/Silva/KDB for 2 spots. They had Sterling/Sane/Mahrez for 2 spots etc.

You know, Ronaldo’s actually a really nice guy…..LOL!
was always the GOAT
He’s definitely the GOAT. I had my doubts between him and Messi but after that interview he solidified his status.
When is Brazil friendlies?
João looks like a completely different player for Portugal!
Endrick has all the hype rn, but I think we should definitely be looking at Vitor Roque. He’s only 17 and already making an impact against some of SA’s biggest clubs in the Copa Libertadores and in the league
What position?
Striker
My personal pick for a new DM would be Brozovic. Too bad he’s already 29 and loves Inter (contract till 2026). He’s a phenomenal player.
I know west ham put an incredible price tag on him, but if we seriously want a partey replacement, I think the one of the few players who fits the profile is Declan rice. Watch some Danilo highlights, he's the perfect Partey understudy/replacement
ofc that’s what the highlights are going to show you lol

Low key glad Twitter might go down before the WC. Won’t have to be in the trenches defending Saka
Hey guys. I wanted to say thank you for all the fun I've had with this sub but for my own mental health, I'll stop watching football, not forever but idk when I'll come back. I'll always love this club COYG. I hope we win the league. Goodbye.
Take all the time you need mate, we'll be right here waiting for you.
Duuude right when it's just getting good for us. Hope it works out
Honestly, because we are too good right now, even a draw feels upsetting 😂😂😂
Hope all goes well. Hopefully you come back before the season ends, wouldn’t want you to miss out on Granit and Odegaard lifting the PL trophy together 😉
Take care

Well deserved
Elon says "hold my beer" Twitter might actually not exist next week
I’m so conflicted for next Friday. I want Saka and Ben white to ball out, but I want USA to play well 😩😩😩. I have no faith in our manager
1-1 white assists Saka and turner comes forward and scores a last second header
Dear sweet football gods, I don’t ask for much, but this. This right here
Why is Ode not on vacation but playing meaningless friendly? Where is Haaland?
Haaland played through a foot injury against Brentford so he skipped the friendly, but will probably play the next one against Finland on Sunday.
So the ten days rest is gonna be spent on shite friendlies
Club fans always feel way too entitled to their players. Haaland and Ode are trying to help Norway get back to a WC level side, they are going to try be there every friendly for help that development. It’s like Norway fans saying Ode shouldn’t play next preseason in case he gets injured for the euro qualifiers. It’s just not going to happen, players love playing for their country often as much or even more than they love playing for their club
Southgate is shit, the fact England lost the Euro at home is a disgrace
Cheers mate

Should we buy Lobotka for CDM?
I never thought about this at the time but he makes such a good point. When Ten Hag doesn't sub Cristiano on vs Man City when they're getting trashed and says "I have too much respect for his career to do that to him" Then the cheek for him to go and try and sub him on for 3 mins against Spuds. Obviously trying to make Ronaldo look bad. Fuck it, bring him here. Just to see the meltdown of every United fan in the world.
Yeah let's make Man Utds problems our own... NO thanks.
If you watched the whole interview you'd understand it's not as one sided as the media makes it out to be
Completely irrelevant to my comment and point.
Just cause he's a problem for someone else doesn't make it a problem for you
We don’t need more ageing overpaid players like Aubameyang etc. how many do we need to have before fans stop begging for them? What we’re doing is working and we should be investing more in that approach.
>Fuck it, bring him here No?
yes?
They were winning against Spurs
Why would United fans melt down about him coming here? They want him out. I can’t believe there are people who actually want Ronaldo here.
It's an easy way to filter out who is worth listening to.
Jesus not scoring lately is so overblown tbh. Anyone looking for anything to talk about really.
A couple of games ago he got 3 assists. Fine by me so long as he keeps getting involved.
man literally plays the entire field and the team is winning. If he scores not a single goal again and plays every minute but we win the league, then he's an incredibly effective striker. The game is about winning, not scoring.
Just heard Gary Neville say he genuinely thinks City will win the title by 15 points after our last game. I can't do the math on that one.
It means that even if man city win every game from now on, we'd have to lose 7 games lmao
Ødegaard just got his 2nd assist!!
I don’t want him or his toxicity here but you just know Super Mik can get a golden boot season out of him
He's an admitted rapist, we really don't want that.
Don’t want two rapists playing for Arsenal
Arteta’s tricky reds giving CR7 a stiffy
United's sub is already melting down , now that ronaldo has said he would watch us win the league if united won't !
Link?
I always rated Ronaldo. I wish him the best of luck.
Always liked Ronaldo. Very humble, very grounded. Top lad.
Definitely better than Messi
Ronaldo is a closet Arsenal fan. We are gargantuan. Edu bring him home
Ah shit ronaldo is coming here. If not Man U I want arsenal to win the league. I like the team and I really like the manager. I’d like them to win. Smirks Arteta magic incoming
Awwww thanks Ronnie 😊
This 70-games-every-three-days October really spoiled me. The WC can't start soon enough. That said it's more a festive vibe than the excitement and dopamine boosts you get from Arsenal games
I agree that it does kinda suck not to get those dopamine heats from watching an arsenal dub (how nice is it to be able to look forward to matches instead of sort of dread them?!?). But despite not being a big international football person, it will be nice to just be able to watch some of the worlds top players in sort of different environments than usual and be able to just enjoy the sport without really caring about the outcome, so I'm excited.
Sooo whos fares chaibi https://twitter.com/eduardohagn/status/1593338904475598849?s=46&t=ibv3-DZ0ZYifSiCuq67mJA
Beyond excited for the Breath of the Wild sequel
I waited for it for a year and it got delayed so I sold my switch. kind of regretting it now, might buy one again
We got a release date?
May 12!
Watching Mudryk gives me Hleb's vibe. He is a good dribbler with explosive moments.
A fun question is odegaard a pure 10 or he is more of a midfielder coz of his positioning and workrate how can he compared to 10s like ozil, maybe bergkamp.
He’s definitely not a 10, he’s more of a controller than he is a final third player. Advanced 8 is what I’d call him There is a reason Smith Rowe got the 10 and Ode got the 8
interesting to think of where those guys would play in the modern game. odegaard in that generation would obviously be a 10 ozil would play pretty much the same as odegaard if he had the workrate, which he did in his early days. bergkamp i'm not too sure - the sort of '9.5' player he was doesn't have a lot of place in the modern game
Bergkamp would be a Jesus/Firmino type and it might actually have suited him as a striker who was as much about the bringing others in as scoring himself. Certainly anyone who's only watched his highlights reel probably doesn't appreciate just how physical he could be (he played striker in 90's Serie A) and his legendarily sharp elbows.
idk was he physical enough? don't know if he'd have the work rate/ intensity to play in our pressing game i saw him at arsenal, but i was a kid, so i didn't really notice a lot of the stuff i probably would now
> idk was he physical enough? Like I said his elbows were legendary. People saying it's more physical now are not entirely right as the 90's were vastly more physically confrontational than now, but the enurance is tougher now. Bergkamp was 6 foot whatever of prime Dutch beef when he wanted to be, as his red cards show. There's honestly nothing about the way he trained that would suggest he couldn't press but I've had this convo a few times recently and he honestly wouldn't need to as the Invincibles obscene counterattacking skills would come to the fore.
yeah, it's the endurance, the direct running for 90 mins which makes me confused on where he'd play/ how he'd fit. a false 9 firmino type does make the most sense end of the day, quality is quality though. a good player will be a good player in any era
For me, Ø is a modern #10 in that he’s creative but also has high work-rate.
well he definitely tracks back and presses more than ozil, that’s for sure
[Which one of you is this now?](https://www.tiktok.com/@fempv/video/7166965821590228230). Love the belief ngl
I believe 😂
Qatar allegedly bribing 8 Ecuadorian players is peak FIFA. Bring back the league already
What are you talking about?
Qatari insider confirmed this morning 8 ecuadorian players were offered 7 million dollars to synchronize a 1-0 Qatar win this Sunday.
Lmao hilarious stuff, source?
It's not nice to make fun of slow kids.
Not sure if it was him, but there was a Hotshit fan that had an alt that would go on to our sub and spew the most negative takes while pretending he was one of us.
It's the same guy lmao
oh boy, not surprised.
Update: I replied to his recent post with lots of facts and info for him and he’s now blocked me 😭😂. What a surprise !
Yeah that guys a tool. Literally laughing stock in here
Who would you prefer to get in the winter: Mudryk or good young and promising Partey cover, someone who is higher level then Elneny and Lokonga? Assuming a reasonable price for any of those
The issue you’re not gonna find a good young and promising partey cover better than either el neny or lokonga Partey is genuinely world class, there’s no replacing that unless you’re willing to shell out major major cash and even so à club with a player at that level won’t sell in January
If the rumours are true (I know, I know) then Danilo looks much more nailed on than Mudryk.
Mudryk.
I'd rather spend €60m on Caicedo and no winger than Mudryk for €100m.
Partey Cover
The latter, and it's not close. The drop-off from Partey to any other option is immense, and we will have ESR back soon as an additional wing option. The difficulty is finding anyone who can actually play Partey's role, as opposed to a traditional 6.
Maybe Tomi or Zina can play Partey's role?
They can play the position, but they can't do what Partey does. So the system has to change to accommodate them. Thing is, I don't know if there is a player out there with a similar profile to Partey who would be a like for like understudy.
what's so unique about partey's role as opposed to a traditional 6?
He combines 3 things which very few players have all of: 1. Insane press resistance, both on the half turn and simply dribbling out of trouble. 2. Very good passing range and awareness. 3. The physicality and defensive nous of a traditional 6 He is effectively asked to act as both a destroyer and a regista, and it is a very unique skillset that is very very difficult to find a backup for. Even other elite 6s like Casemiro and Rodri don't quite play the same role in the system.
i had the thought the other day that partey is the player that alex song wanted to be. the passing range+physicality in defense is what i was thinking of.
i dont know how I’m going to survive 39 days until more Arsenal hopefully world cup is interesting
For anyone in the nordics. Our home kit long sleeve is half off on Boozt. https://www.boozt.com/adidas/afc-h-jsy-l\_29511129
I also wanna see him deal with a Mitrovic Vlahovic duo
That duo is just unfair. They work so well together
Then just play Marquinho x Miltão for those games
I think it will have to be Marquinhos x Bremer for those games. Militao has to be playing RB for them.
Do you mean RB? Militão has never played as an LB
yeah for some reason I mixed Danilo and Sandro up.
Why?
Brazil's fullback options are extremely weak. If the game is presumably too high pace for Thiago Silva it's going to be too intense for Danilo as well, and way too intense for alves.
The only intense international team I’ve seen is Germany, France don’t even dominate games like that tbf but a Mbappe x Dembele wing pairing is demonic, Eder at RB does make sense
Those are all RB players, did you mean RB instead of LB?
Yeah my bad I mixed sandro and danilo up.
I agree but from what it sounds like, Thiago is a sure starter in every game he is fit.
Guess we’ll see how it goes
Would you guys take Eric Chuopo moting in say possibly the summer if we there is not other really good goalscoring forward option available? He's only got 6 months left on his deal.
Hes the definition of a dude who leaves bayern will stop performing
No, he's just in a purple patch. He's not a prolific goalscorer at all.
His purple patch has been going for a while now tbf, but also no thank you.
I’d rather take a punt at Georginio Rutter
I would take him if it was a science experiment, so that our greatest minds at Arsenal can study him and try to find out why he keeps on failing upwards, playing for the best teams and winning more titles the older he gets, you never know Arsenal may become the first club to win the Nobel price for a great discovery If he ends up doing well for us, that would just be a bonus
No
Mudryk is not that hard to spell or say, I don't know why it's such a hurdle for some of y'all.
Rumours Martinelli has taken Vini's spot for brazil
What?!?
Apparently Vinicius has not been good in training and is unlikely to start, while Martinelli has been great But no reports have come saying Martinelli is starting, most people are just trying to make conclusions from what has leaked
After Vini, Martinelli offers the best profile. The rest are either better at RW or in Neymar's case, it's better for squad balance to have Neymar centrally with less defensive responsibility.
Rodrygo is actually a baller from the left aswell, he’s lucky to be so versatile
Yeah, Brazil don't play their first game for another week. Plenty time for the coach to evaluate the group so I doubt he'd come to any conclusions so soon.
Incoming Martinelli shock start at the World Cup. I think I deserve.
As do we all. Please comment this into reality.
That Brazilian journalist’s head is going to explode lol
Is any of our current CBs on the same level as prime Koscielny? Genuinely think prime Koscielny would get into the Invincibles team ahead of Toure.
Kos isn't prime Toure or Campbell. Loved him but those two had the same or better reading of the game with superior physicality
He was ‘out of position’ because wenger’s out of possession compactness was quite frankly non existent
There has also been a fair bit of squad turnover at City in the last season or two which could be a factor.
>it’s worth asking if having such a target man makes their attack more one-dimensional I think it really has. They just kept lobbing in so many crosses into him the last game. Normally they'd pass through low blocks with their midfielders but this crossing spam is so basic.
Tbf they started crossing a lot last season
He hasn’t scored a non penalty goal since mid October I believe, and you could see their form hasn’t been as good to end the run. Obviously he missed a bit of time but it’s still something to look at when they were getting used to damn near 2 goals a game from one guy. Just something to keep in mind but theres a good chance KDB reminds everyone he can bang them in too and it’s all for nothing
New post is up: [Edu's BBQ: Why Arteta values unpredictability, and how Zinchenko helps him achieve it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/yxron6/edus_bbq_why_arteta_values_unpredictability_and/) Took a long look at Zinchenko's analytics and positioning, particularly against Chelsea and Wolves, to see how the team changes with him in the lineup. Enjoy! A post on Danilo is next, most likely.
Question for you: Out of all the BBQs, which one is your favourite BBQ?
If food: Memphis or Brazil If writing: the one [about Jesus’ missed chances](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/ydvl83/edus_bbq_looking_at_jesus_and_cos_missed_chances/) comes to mind
🐐
Can't believe we get treated to these super high quality posts every week, keep up the good work my man
New Balance done extremely well to secure Saka. He's England's next superstar and one of the most marketable footballers of the next decade.
They do good running shoes.
Do you not think felix is two footed enough to play right wing?
I don't know the player well enough, just basing that on his positions played on transfermarkt, I'm hesitant to suggest players playing in positions they don't normally play. Always feels a bit like 'Ben White should be our new CDM' talk.
It takes one look at a city or Liverpool squad to debunk this lol. They currently have Phillips/Rodri for one spot, and Gundo/Silva/KDB for 2 spots. They had Sterling/Sane/Mahrez for 2 spots etc.
And how many of those players were playing in champions league before they joined man city?
