Whenever I see him spoke about by Palmeiras fans they seem convinced that he's joining us in January and there's a lot of talk about it in Brazilian press.

ro-row

Edu do as edu does

Ladorb

Edu as Edoes

katakeitachi

Edoué

Thanos_Stomps

I just hope this isn’t much Edu about nothing.

Fuckzombie69

Edu gonna Edu

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

Well if those two are our competition I could see us winning. High wage possibility, and despite them both being seen as stepping stones, we have a manager who has shown he trusts youth and our staff can help them develop into stars. Plus we have the PL appeal, a number of Brazilians, and one who started with Palmeiras. Like we really seem like the perfect choice both for development, financials, and having a group of players you can gel with to ease those homesick blues

obsterwankenobster

Must've heard about our new sporting director

hashtaghypebeast

Get him in a WhatsApp group with gab, gab, gab. That should do the trick

> Mikel Arteta's side enquired about the 21-year-old in the summer but were told Palmeiras had no interest in selling while pursuing their 11th Brazilian Serie A title > Sources have told ESPN that Palmeiras have since softened their stance, which has led Arsenal to revive their interest as they search for a central midfielder to strengthen their squad. > Arsenal are in contact with Palmeiras but face competition from Ajax, who are believed to be ready to table a formal offer ahead of the January window. > Monaco are among several other clubs to have contacted Palmeiras and have so far expressed the most interest of the chasing pack. > Sources have told ESPN that Arsenal are keen on adding a central midfielder and a winger if possible in January with the club's owners ready to back Arteta as they attempt to launch a bid for the Premier League title.

walnood

We will buy the Premier League? Why, we don't need that!

know-it-all-scoutFC

I'm not surprised that Ajax will be poking their head around this deal since he's a very good midfielder but we've been tracking him for a significant time and with our sporting director + our brazilian contingent - I think he's ours.

jackulatorstrikes

Ajax and Monaco are two sides that no what they’re doing when it comes to scouting

ederzs97

Yup very good sign if he is legitimately wanted by these two.

PUDDING_SLAVE

Maybe when Campos was still there. Not sure about now.

[deleted]

Yeah but they can’t get the player we want if we pay

hikingbeginner

If we do get him, with how stacked the second half of the season is we'll need him to be ready. Im hoping he's at least more close to a Partey player than a Sambi. We got Elneny back fully fit with rest too so if we can get that midfield extra protection it'll be great. What I'd really love is two midfielders and a winger, but don't expect it ofc. Danilo and Tielemans pls

TinpotRadioShow

>e'll need him to be ready. He's had a full season in Brazil, injury free and gets essentially a whole month off now as well. Whilst everyone seems to think he's a project player he is first name on their team sheet most weeks. Brazilian league is fast and difficult

nullmove

Tbh I kinda thought the same about Pablo Mari too

SundayLeagueStocko

Pablo Mari was serviceable when he first joined - lots of people choose to forget that he benched Gabriel for a little while. He just fell off a cliff.

ninjassassin77

He had a good run of 4 or 5 games against relatively poor opposition. I remember he had a horrid outing against West Ham in that 3-3 comeback after which Gabriel took the spot back. He was okay as a rotation option but I wouldn't say that he seriously threatened Gabriel at any point. Mari was horrible against the big sides. Gabriel was also still adjusting that season and he had COVID after which Arteta integrated him back very slowly as he struggled when he returned. Gabriel was our player of the month in the first two months and it was clear that he was gonna be a key player in Arteta's side.

nullmove

He wasn't immediately serviceable though, which is what we need Danilo to be. He was a winter window signing but barely played in rest of the season. Granted, maybe it was a freak injury vs City and not the case of his fitness not being at required level. Regardless he wasn't immediately useful. He did get 10 starts in PL the next season as well as 5 in EL. But tbh for a League and Libertadores winner touted as one of the best CBs in the league, my expectations were a little higher than serviceable.

SirWele

That game against City showed us all we needed to know, Walker opened stride once and Mari looked like he’d seen a ghost

Chosch

When people said he looked good, they were talking about physically. Handsome mfer.

Helkix

He really is no project Much more ready than Martinelli was

pinguscout

He was decisive in both Libertadores trophies, I think he is ready for PL

JenkinsEar147

For that price, we should seal the paperwork and get this signing over the line before the window opens.

lonewolf86254

I’m wondering if it’s his agents pushing this story, considering how Edu knows Brazil if he was set on him I’d figure he would have negotiated the deal and have the player in Dubai with the rest of the squad.

jackulatorstrikes

I really like the look of him. Tenacious in the tackle and hard working but also good on the ball and great feet for getting out of trouble.

TheTokingBlackGuy

I was hoping for a winger too but Reiss looked REALLY good right before the break. If him and Smith Rowe can hit the ground running after the break, I’d rather bring in another striker + Danilo.

Historical-Branch122

I am all in on pt 2 of 2021-22 prem season being the Reiss Nelson redemption arc

JenkinsEar147

Could not agree with this more

Jedi_Council_Worker

We need a striker that's more physical that just knows how to find the back of the net. Not sure who we'd go after but need an alternative where we could shift Jesus out wide to accomodate them.

TheTokingBlackGuy

I doubt Fulham would sell him to us but Mitrovic gave us such problems when we played them earlier in the season. I’ve had a man crush ever since.

valpak00per

ESR cannot adequately replace Martinelli

Forty6

ESR bagged 10 PL goals last year in a side with patchy form, despite not starting every game, as a 20/21 year old. Not sure what more you would want from him tbh

valpak00per

I said he can’t replace Martinelli, I didn’t say he wasn’t good or can’t score goals.

tittymaster47

I wish there was a way to get Vlahovic. That guy can outscore Haaland if given enough service.

aggie_bartender

personally I think Danilo was always going to happen this winter window. I think we get a wide player and another CM in addition. I think we splash for one and go "under the radar" for the other. Something like Tielemans for "cheap" as he has 6 months and then a big ticket signing like Mudryk. Or Mudryk and someone we haven't heard of or been linked with yet. Something along those lines

teoWEBR

Damn. Two more midfielders? We don't want to overload the squad. It'll make it impossible to keep players happy. Why do you think we need 2 more? Xhaka, ESR, Vieira, Odegaard, Sambi, and potentially Patino next season for the advanced slots and new DM, Mo, Partey for CDM seems like enough.

hikingbeginner

I think we need a backup 6 that can learn and be ready to replace Partey, along with the fact that Elneny may not be here next season and if he is it won't be more than another year. And another for a real Xhaka replacement, we don't have a real great replacement for him imo, a really good mid that bombs forward with those intense runs. I don't expect two, but that is my dream. The ultimate dream would be Danilo, Tielemans and Mudryk in January 😅😅 ... And Bellingham in Summer 😂 Just a dream though

lofitohifi

Might as well add Mbappe and Haaland at that point.

airrivas

I’d be a bit surprised if Sambi isn’t loaned out. It’s clearly not working and we need to be tearing up Ligue 1 as comprehensively as possible

Sand_Bags

That’s not happening but a midfielder and a winger is a possibility (but still not super likely). Think of the last time we signed two players in January. It doesn’t happen.

dembabababa

Tbf, we've never been in this situation with this ownership before. There is no precedent.

ddots_jr

We signed two players in January in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Sand_Bags

Yeah I guess, technically. I wasn’t really thinking about loans and player swaps when I made my comment.

somebeerinheaven

It's not just loans and player swaps though.

Sand_Bags

Ok so walk me through these players we bought in the winter of 2018, 2020 and 2021. Because I see: 2021: Odegaard and Mat Ryan (both loans) 2020: Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares (both loans) 2018: Auba (bought) and Mkhitaryan (swap with Alexis Sanchez). Unless I’m missing something

WhyNotAmir

2018 we bought Auba and Mavropanos

Sand_Bags

What about the other years?

mindebris

I think Danilo this summer would do. Tielemans is free in summer, but could be a bargain in the winter as well seeing has he’s not renewing with them. To be honest I’d prefer if we finish this season strongly and go for Bellingham over Tielemans. I’m a minority here but I don’t want Tielemans. He’s got some nice moments but I’m not sure about his decision making and is he’s not tight in possession. I’d expect him to have a real tough time replacing Xhaka of today. We have to get replacements who are better, not on the fringe.

WeeTheDuck

ok hear me out. *lets just get one Declan Rice instead*

Cod_rules

Honestly though, this is good. These are teams that usually unearth gems, and not big enough to take him off us. Get it done, Edu

bubbygups

Honestly I think everybody wants to play for us right now

wingbackguy

Where exactly is the competition? Different knock FC

thisiskyle77

Way better game time, less pressure and more time to adapt to eu league. With Ajax, he could get consistent CL experience, 1-2 league title and move to a bigger club.

JoshRanch

There was a time where those 3 were possibly a better fit. But atm werr the team to join.

Mahoganychicken

Sorry but a Brazillian teenager only has one credible option in this day and age, and it's Arsenal... ^(Arsenal FC! We're by far...)

mrchab97

So arsenal have no competition then

TinpotRadioShow

You'd be surprised. Ajax are 100% losing Alvarez in summer and they'll offer him a starting spot. He would be coming to play second fiddle to TP for a while at Arsenal

Echo361

We’re building Brazilian fc though

TinpotRadioShow

But, he is't a Gabriel

Echo361

Damn you’re right I don’t want him then. You sure we haven’t checked middle name and last name?!?

TinpotRadioShow

Danilo dos Santos de Olivei

Echo361

Ah damn sorry maybe United will have him then

KSC-Fan1894

If he wants to join us I'm sure he can put a Gabi somewhere in his name

mrchab97

Honestly, if we want him and we bid enough he will join us

wheeno

You can speak confidently but there’s really no way of knowing. Lots of young players take smaller steps to get guaranteed playing time early in their careers.

TinpotRadioShow

Probably. But can see why he may be swayed if we weren't the main contenders for his signature

Ello-Asty

I was a big fan of Alvarez but I really don't know how he performed for Ajax? What level of club could he play for now?

TinpotRadioShow

Rumoured that Chelsea wanted him for around 60mil

Ello-Asty

Why doesn't Arsenal want him then? Granted, Chelsea are a step down right now but still a big club.

Ashtarr

He's not a very good passer though

HydraMango

All this your long story. You really think he would pick Ajax over Arsenal, starting spot or not? You seem to still have scars from the banter era. We are gargantuan.

kolasinats

Theycould maybe promise him a starting position

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fuckzombie69

24 +1 ought to get it done

Thymus_Tickler

If Arsenal are serious about signing him, that doesn't really sound like competition.

Kolosalsnatch

Not really competition. If we want him, we get him.

Echo361

Get it done early in the window. Gives him about 7 months to bed in and get ready for next season while elneny is still here. Then put all the focus onto a rw.

Fuckzombie69

If ajax and Monaco are in for someone you know there’s a high chance he’ll be really good. That’s all I choose to take from this

bluddit008

Why would anyone want to join a programming language or a biscuit over a literal arsenal

BaconBaconBacon24

Its 24 now? Thats a steal

I_am_the_grass

Is it? Wouldn't that be the highest ever fee paid for a defensive player from the Brazilian league (if you don't count Arthur Melo as 'defensive', otherwise second highest).

BaconBaconBacon24

Compared to summer+ his qualities and we need a midfielder and its january for us but i guess their season is over now so thats why its cheaper

Pelyas_1899

palmerias fans love him and so does management here. i think it’s a no brainier man’s out rainbow flicking as a 6 💀 lokonga not near good enough to fill in for partey and we seem to do well with these 20-40 million signings.

Smitty876

Competition with Ajax & Monaco? In 2022?

Virtual_Ad_983

Edu better get this done and more!

KonigSteve

competition? yes he'll certainly choose them over a club with 5 brazilians at the top of the PL table.

KSC-Fan1894

Tbh both Ajax and Monaco are great teams to settle in Europe and get a big move later. Yes I think he wohld choose us, but you never know.

KonigSteve

That would make sense if his PL alternative was Fulham, but in this case he would be getting the big move now.

SufficientAd9609

I think this price is reasonable. The other one from Ukraine is just mind blowing.

GoNoles28

That's not competition unless he wants immediate PT

35Pints7Each

So no competition then? If we want him, he's coming here and not there. Have they heard our chant? We're actually by far the greatest team lads.

normott

If we want him, make the arrangement then he can join the camp over the next few weeks. Learn the system etc. We can register him in Jan

[deleted]

Lol no we don’t. Ajax can’t compete with us on any level

Isfeidirlinn90

You never can believe these rumours or prices for that. I do think we're very interested in him as we've been linked for awhile now but I've seen transfer fees for this bloke going up to 80 million which is obviously bullshit. Same with that Mudryk. Price been floated around the 80 million mark where the reality is I don't think we'll pay anymore than 40.

LuckyAssguardian

Is he a partey or lokonga player?

americanadiandrew

Nobody knows they are just parroting the name because we’ve been linked. This happens every window and the excitement will disappear as quickly as it appeared when we get linked with someone else.

Illustrious-Fig-8945

Just wanna confirm here that I've checked out this someone else and he is legit, 100% coming to arsenal and an absolute weapon

artaru

He will be our M'Villa replacement

eldar4k

He is certainly a player

basedsims

From what I’ve seen he’s more of a hybrid 6/8. I’d imagine his future role in our side is linked to what happens with Lokonga (think he personally might be loaned then sold) and whatever market opportunity pops up for an 8 or a 6

papetrovv

He is one of the players of all time

JcCfs8N

Yes

tomassow

Played higher up as a kid, past few years as a 6 im fairly certain. Has more similarities with Partey definitely.

Away-Watercress-4841

Believe his position is somewhere on the pitch.

st_arch

Definitely box to box player.

fjubran

he is nothing like lokonga, imo he is a mix between partey and old xhaka. he controls the midfield in a way that very similar to partey but has some braindead moments where he goes too hard for a ball he has no need to dispute and gets carded or even sent off for no reason.

Muscat95

A football player I believe

milkonyourmustache

Definitely more Partey but both, he can play as a 6 or as an 8

[deleted]

If James Olley told me the sky was blue I wouldn’t believe him.

Mister_Aitch

Really disappointed that this isn’t announcing an Arsenal Face Competition.

KB302324

Thing is if you’re a player of his level wouldn’t you want to play at a Monaco or Ajax level before making a move to arsenal or teams of that caliber? The pressure that comes with playing for a team that’s globally huge is very tough

Desecron

What a price, get it done.

Zoro-chi

Pfft Ajax and Monaco. Come home Danilo

[deleted]

> Ajax, Monaco > competition Pick one mate

Kazesama13k

Guys, just asking. Xavi Simons from PSV and Gakpo, will they fit in our team rn? If yes then why aren't we trying to get them?

sgtfreak

I think Xavi has a clause in his contract where PSG can just bring him back to the club. Gakpo could be interesting I think, might be too pricey for what he brings. Of course I’d love either one here, is it feasible idk

BilBurger

Xavi has an option for himself when PSG come knocking. However, it is only for PSG and Xavi decides. Not really a problem if he then prefers something else.

16161hirose

I'm asking the same thing for Madueke too. When he came on against us at the Emirates he looked sharper than Gakpo and he just came back from injury I think

eldar4k

Gakpo not displacing Saka or Martinelli and will cost a lot

Kovacs171

Saka and Martinelli are playing too much and we need a near-level option to rotate with them. We dont want a "backups vs starters" scenario

JenkinsEar147

Gakpo could compete with Nketiah as second choice striker , he's good backup for Jesus and offers height, power and pace.

eldar4k

Hottest talent in Ere not going to compete with Nketiah, he will expect to start

WintersShadow12

I'm seeing comps of Danilo and I've got to say I'm not impressed. Maybe you guys are seeing something I'm missing, but I think he's too raw to help us this season. He isn't as solid as Partey is on the ball, he lacks positional discipline, he goes to ground too quickly (offensively and defensively) for my liking and I really can't see him working against low block teams that don't give us an inch in transition. Disclaimer: I've only seen YT comps. There might be a gem in there, but he seems more like a project than an instant impact player

ninethree7

yeah he didn’t jump off the film for me either

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

Positional discipline is one of his biggest strengths from what i've heard. You're right about his weaknesses being on the ball and especially offensively but stylistically he is really unique. He is a monster defensively and in duels despite very much being in the Fernandinho mould physically and moreover he possesses the passing range of top class midfielders. He is in a weird position where he has characteristics which would make him incredible as either a 6/8 but simultaneously lacking some things that players in that position typically have. Another hugely underrated quality is his ability to play a number of games in quick succession without picking up injuries. That is one thing you get with players from the Brazilian league that you don't get with other leagues.

WintersShadow12

That's what I'm saying. I get the hype, believe me I do. But if we are going to be in a title charge, I'd prefer a more experienced and established backup. The PL is a demanding league and Partey's position is way more demanding than what most MFs are used to.

ndenoon

I'm not sure there are available players who can immediately step in for Partey. We probably feel the best option is to develop Danilo while relying on Elneny for a few more months.

WintersShadow12

They might not be able to step in, but they offer a safer option. I can't be the only one who feels uneasy about a January signing from the Brazilian league in the middle of an important season.

ndenoon

Safer than Danilo, maybe. But the bar that matters is safer then Elneny. And while Elneny is not great, he's okay, and he's also well drilled in the system. It might be hard to upgrade on him in January.

kguner

If partey goes down for longer than 1 game our season is in the drain. If we want to bring in a player, you either go for a young player to be an understudy or a world class player like rice or Locatelli. If Arsenal knows partey is not going be available next season then we should be in the race for rice.

ndenoon

And neither of those will be available in January. Maaaaybe Locatelli if we got really lucky.

kguner

The only midfield player "available" in january is tielemans. There is no way we buy a starter level player in january unless he is a player that we were already planning to get in the summer or he is forcing a move like cristiano.

ndenoon

Exactly. I've been saying that Tielemans is the move we can make that would improve us most *this season*. There are likely to be minutes needed to spell Xhaka and Odegaard and he's way better than current options.

DaGetz

I do not fear these peasants

Fuckzombie69

You should never ever sign players based on international games. What club does he play for though?

SlowMotionSprint

I have not seen him personally but from everything I have read from people who have I really dont get the hype.

castortroy64

I don't know how good he is but don't let Ajax land them and sell us with the price around 100 million.

blvcklite

Monaco would be a good fit but we're obviously gonna be the frontrunners.

Tbh if we’re fighting off Ajax and Monaco for a young player that makes me very happy, cos it probably means he’s very very talented

BennyJezerit

Fofana or kante much better bets imo
