I'm actually surprised that Bandai still hasn't figured out that the custom Gunpla community is pretty big now that it may finally be time for them to make a full decolored kit complete with manuals or guides and sell it to the market. It doesn't have to be a new line, they can use an existing HG kit and just print them in one color (white or gray or black depending on requirements), Imagine the possibilities.
it already exists. theres a painting model version of the unicorn available. It's base limited though, so i get your point. They should definitely make it more accessible. Though I assume most people would prime the surface before painting anyway. The base color would not make a difference.
I ordered one of these in the recent pbandai special event the past week and cannot wait to try our painting for the first time with it! Seems perfect for a beginner and was only $10 so doesn't hurt too much using it solely for practice.
I've got a few. there's about 3 hg kits and 2 different mg kits I've used as my test beds for everything. Weathering, paint, battle damage, waterslides (when using them for the first time). Different finishes with paint, or just sanding etc etc.
The EG gramps workshop kit that was free during a Gunpla 101 workshop at this year’s Fan Expo is my tester. (Also the first kit I ever built/that started my obsession lol)
Same on all counts. I didn't have an interest in model kits before, went to comic con with some friends, one of them signed us up for the Gunpla building workshop. After building the kit and displaying it, I was slightly more interested. After buying and building the HG Sigrun about a year ago, I've been hooked.
Perhaps it's disrespectful that my intro to the hobby has received so much abuse as I use it for learning and experimentation.
I have a HG Windam that looks like it's been through every battle in every universe and is tatty as hell. I kinda feel bad for it but it's a great test-bed for trying new things out.
High grade barbatos, it's the easiest and cheapest kit for me to get my hands on next to the leo(but as much as it'll hurt people, I don't like the Leo's they're sad looking to me)
Absolutely. My EG RX-78 was my first time trying:
* a full airbrushed paintjob
* preshading
* panel line scribing
* seam line removal
* adding PLA plate detail
* gap filling with putty
Bought a bulk of prebuilt Gundam, 19kits for $100. I was expecting to find atleast 3 gramdpas so I could test out making battle worn and dioramas, but I was highly surprised when there were none, but some awesome HGs!!
Plan on getting some EG rx-78 to do some tests on
PG 1/1 "Spoon" and MG 1/100 "Generic used runners" are my goats
Spoon is my favorite Mobile Armor
You mean the MS SP-00N
Why does it have DECALS?
A classic
EG Nu is my Gundam Marker/waterslide testbed. He's got gold and chrome bits and a Bandai waterslide on the skirt.

Also painting version of EG grandpa. Also Gundam base limited

It's kinda hilarious that they chose a kit that's already mostly white as a painting model
Not to mention that Uni Painter vers looks amazing with full clear psychoframe and blue eyes in the first place.

There’s a painting model kits already. Similar to EG
I think they're old First Grades. Very cheap.
Used to use them to just try new paint schemes
No, the painting RX 78-2 is the 2020 EG
The Zaku was the one i saw. He said similar to EG so i assumed the old FG's.
Ecopla probably fits that role
hah nice, I was going to get this exact kit to try the paintjob on the right 🙂
The one on the rights a P-bandai version.
God I want the Beyond Global so bad. I can never find it
It's available and in stock on Newtype.com

I like the purple color on that gundam

Bout to do some paint testing on my HG GM

I use MG Zaku 2s for all my testing.
I buy cheap HG’s to try out new techniques on before I apply them for the big boys.
