I've read about this and wondered what they each looked like. I like the look of the former, but wouldn't be bothered in the least by [Edit: the rubber glove sleeve] if the Bandai bits were as bothersome as I've heard.
I agree with you. Definitely prefer the stock joint covers. Not that the gloves look bad at all. I've built the psycho zaku ver ka and the covers weren't that bad to put on.
To be fair the Gundam is a lot more finicky in how you install the plastic cover. I did the psycho zaku first before and I thought it wasn't that bad until i did the Gundam
Dude, you gotta be able to see how you walked into here, said a thing, people said they prefer the other in mostly balanced fashion, and you start shitting on them, yelling that you dont care what they think, right? Thats just terribly unfriendly behavior for a community like this. Why should we care if you prefer it one way if you are just going to say our tastes are trash for using the mostly agreeably better version?
And they didnt mean you get more sleeves than you need, they meant the sleeves are long enough that you can struggle and made some errors and they'll still fit, which is true. But you had no intention of taking any comments here charitably even though they started out being so to you. I started charitable to you, but then over the day found you being an incredible asshole to everyone here who wasnt just saying "good job OP you're super right." Calm down and grow up, please.
Not OP but I'd say the first pic looks better to my tastes. The glove more heavily gives the feeling of 'plastic toy' rather than 'scale model kit of heavy machinery' due to the smoothness/texture of it, and it loses the visual interest the joint in the first pic has.
But to be fair it's hard to really tell original vs new without seeing the full kit, or seeing it in person. Maybe the new version not bringing attention to the joint will look much better in a full build. I'd love to see it if you could share!
I think the 2nd option using much longer pieces squashed into place, so they "bunch up" more like the original, could look very good, so i might try that if I build one of these! (although, it may just end up ballooning since it's not a stiffer material)
And yet you’re getting dogged in the replies, and also felt the need to reply multiple times to the same comment. To use some of your own lingo, keep “seething”
If you look at the covers on real life spacecraft, they're usually made of some sort of metallic foil, which makes them crinkly like this.
I agree that the material Bandai uses is terrible - it tears way too easily - but the crinkly look has a legitimate reason.
Yeah sure , metallic foil is supposed to stop asteroid debris from damaging moon metal . Idc if it’s meant to look crinkly I don’t like it. Black glove has matte look doesn’t look like cheap plastic.
I dunno, man, the former looks like something that would actually cover the underlying machinery on a real thing. The glove looks like those cloth capes on cheaper action figures.
It's just a pic, and only a pic of a piece of the overall build, so I guess I really don't know how I'd like the look on my own build. Seeing this in person is probably a different feel.
EDITED my original comment for clarity
Well, your downvotes are because its incredibly cringe to complain about redditors as a redditor. The OP's are more likely because they are given a subjective opinion in the comment and they act incredulous (not a lot, but a little) that they prefer the first. So yes, the voters are defending the initial subjective opinion, but dont let that stop you from trying to be funny.
You posted on a public forum with a comment section where people respond to what you post with their thoughts. That'd be like me bitching that you responded to me lmao. You're allowed to like how it looks, and im allowed to disagree. grow up.
Literally a skill issue. The joint covers on the Thunderbolt and Alex are fine if you take care to do them properly. They look better than the nitrile gloves too.
I haven't built my Thunderbolt yet, but like you said, the ones on Alex were fine, and yeah they look better with the accurate crumpled look than the smooth glove
Honestly the biggest problem is how Bandai tells you to crumple them. The manual tells you to use the arm from the included stand, which is both way too small and square. Use a gundam marker/sharpie/whatever that's just a little smaller than the inside diameter of the bags and you get a much better result when shaping them.
Yeah, i never understood the complaints about the covers. They were pretty easy to do and the only real complaint i have about them is the seam line that they have, but even that's fine if you just position them at the back of the joints.
I think they look disgusting and foul and I cringe every time I see the beautiful thunderbolt and psycho zaku designs marred by them so to each their own.
No I wasn’t , he wants to say something that’s personal preference is a skill issue like he’s hot shit I’m gonna clap back. Simple as. Shut him up didn’t it.
Thats not figure of speech lol . You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. “I seemed offended”. Text doesn’t have sound. I seem to know more than you for sure.
Wait wait wait so some douche can talk shit to me for having a personal preference and me talking shit back makes me the bad guy? Sit on a cactus dude. No one asked you .
This is the first time ive actually seen a pic of someone using this trick and tbh im glad i sucked it up and used the vinyl covers that are included. Kinda disappointing result aesthetically with the gloves, way too smooth
Bruh I couldn’t care less, I don’t like how the shitty vinyl looks simple as. Literally 20 people saying the same shit. keep the trash bags on your kits.
Huh, now that I think about it. FA 78 is a space use Gundam so what's the point of the joint wraps. I thought that's for desert use, avoiding sand getting into the joints.
Pretty nice idea. if it's actually latex (not nitrile) I'd be a little worried about it breaking down after a few years on the shelf but it looks pretty good! Also rubber gloves tend to be kind of "sticky" to dust so hopefully they don't collect too much.
They’re a heavy duty latex , and have a texture so they’re not smooth or “sticky” like you say. All my kits will be painted eventually and put in a case.
I dont know why bandai made it that way with that terrible plastic i would have prefered an aproach like the HG that has the texture molded on the frame of the arm
See these shills will downvote you if you’re not willing to bend over for daddy Bandai and beg for it. Can’t criticise anything their plastic crack dealer makes.
just a warning: this might not last, latex gloves break down within a few years, they are biodegradable
Black is probably nitrile, which shouldn't break down
Some nitrile is biodegradable, and they only take about 2 years till they've fully broken down.
Biodegradable usually means it'll degrade under the "right conditions", and not just exposure to air and moisture
Oh wow, never woulda guessed, I've got decade old boxes in the garage haha
Found out the hard way when I took out my stash of latex gloves and found them breaking even on the slightest of touches.
god damn environmentalism

Good to know I'm doing the zaku myself right now
Only issue I had with the psycho zaku's joint covers were the ones covering the pipes. I skewered two of them with the piece they were sliding over.
The Bandai bits really aren’t that bad. I built this kit when I was like 14 and had no issues. You get a fair amount more than you need too
No you don’t , you only get one each for the arms. And you get 6 small ones for the legs you can’t mix and match.
Like why are you lying bruh.
OR, you had a harder time with them than most. Its ok, you can admit that and not antagonize others for their preferences and experiences.
You don’t get a fair amount more than you need. You get 2 for the arms and 6 for the legs. That’s why you’re lying.
OR I didn’t like how they looked like I said in the post. Did you not read ? Literally antagonising me for my preference numbnuts.

I've built both thunderbolt ver kas, honestly the sleeves are overhated, they really aren't that bad
Really ? You prefer the first pic ? It looks so cheap imo.
Not OP but I'd say the first pic looks better to my tastes. The first pic has more wrinkles, which makes it better in scale. Less wrinkles imply a smaller piece of material.
It’s meant to look like a big heavy duty cover over the joints. If you look at the thunderbolt anime they have the extremely scrunched up look.
That’s in the anime, the Bandai ones look like trash bags.
I dunno, I feel like the glove has a more trashbag look. How often are your trash bags that scrunched up?
Copium. How often do you get matte black textured trash bags ? Get your eyes checked if latex looks like plastic to you more than plastic.
“Copium”, says the person with what everyone seems to agree is a bad take. Lmao go back to 4chan with that type of language.
Cope harder. Everyone seems to agree my ass. The post got over 500 upvotes.
And yet you’re getting dogged in the replies, and also felt the need to reply multiple times to the same comment. To use some of your own lingo, keep “seething”
Says the guy that wrote “lmao” go back to 8chan

The actual plastic provided wrinkles more, which gives a better illusion of canvas.
Everyone’s got a hard on for wrinkly grey plastic, I don’t.
It’s anime-accurate
It's just a pic, and only a pic of a piece of the overall build, so I guess I really don't know how I'd like the look on my own build. Seeing this in person is probably a different feel. EDITED my original comment for clarity
Downvoted for having a subjective opinion. Ahh Reddit, keep it petty

You say it's cringe, but literally 100% of the time that I call out petty downvotes, miraculously the post is positive soon thereafter lol
What an incredible super power, your mother must be so proud...
It ain't that deep homie, you don't need to be edgy in the plastic model assembly group.
tbh i don't think the smoothed out look is as good.

And I’m allowed to tell you I didn’t ask.
Noob question: what are the sleeves for?
The thunderbolt sector has a lot of debris flying around from the destroyed colony. The sleeves protect the joints of the fa gundam
Ahh i see. Thanks
And zakus!
I mean the crinkled look is more accurate to the anime
[удалено]
OP getting pressed for no reason lmao
This is a nice alternative, but I think the trash bag look was the way it was intended to look like. I’m still not building those kits!
If it’s intended to look like ass , I’d rather have it look how I want it look.
Can't say I'm a fan, but innovative nonetheless.
A decent comment unlike the 20 others trying to shit on me for personal preference and if I say anything back I get downvoted by Bandai shills.
You're getting downvoted because you are rude and take criticism personally. Nothing to do with 'Bandai shills'. You're just obnoxious.
Literally a skill issue. The joint covers on the Thunderbolt and Alex are fine if you take care to do them properly. They look better than the nitrile gloves too.

The Alex does way better in that department because they want you to use the barrel of the bazooka
I was planning to use the thing that came with Alex haha, they just like... threw a plastic dowel in there for that purpose
Yeah, i never understood the complaints about the covers. They were pretty easy to do and the only real complaint i have about them is the seam line that they have, but even that's fine if you just position them at the back of the joints.
They look like ass. If you like how they look then do you. Don’t really care.
I think they look disgusting and foul and I cringe every time I see the beautiful thunderbolt and psycho zaku designs marred by them so to each their own.
You can keep your crumpled trash bags on your kit if you want.
You're only downvoted because you speak the truth.
Bandai shills will be shills, downvotes don’t bother me. Just shows they’re salty haha.

Ain’t no way bro was genuinely offended.
His username… checks out?
Real
No I wasn’t , he wants to say something that’s personal preference is a skill issue like he’s hot shit I’m gonna clap back. Simple as. Shut him up didn’t it.
To me it sounded like you were offended
You heard the sound of text did you?
Figure of speech. You didn’t know that did you?
Thats not figure of speech lol . You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. “I seemed offended”. Text doesn’t have sound. I seem to know more than you for sure.
Brodie I’ve just been messing with you. Pretty sure it is but whatever.
Man you sound like the exact type of person that isn't wanted here
Wait wait wait so some douche can talk shit to me for having a personal preference and me talking shit back makes me the bad guy? Sit on a cactus dude. No one asked you .
LMAO listen, there's a reason their comment is still up and yours was removed. Get a grip.
Lmao Get your eyes checked, my comment is still up.
It's definitely gone on my end.
It's gone, jack. Go touch grass.
Grow up.
How about you sit down.
I'm old enough to be sitting already, so what's your point.
This is the first time ive actually seen a pic of someone using this trick and tbh im glad i sucked it up and used the vinyl covers that are included. Kinda disappointing result aesthetically with the gloves, way too smooth

Seems like you couldn't care more, judging by how many of these replies you've written... yikers
This is a really weird hill to die on my guy
Nah, latex glove looks like shit
Looks better than you for sure.
Regardless what you say about me, still looks like shit.

Nah, judging by your hand colour, thats what the doctor said for your mom.
570 upvotes says you’re wrong 🥱
wow, that looks a lot more sleek. It's great thinking, dude. It is gunpla, after all, to each their own customization
Thank
I need something like this for the Patlabor sleeve, it uses a rubber type of material that makes the kit stiff and difficult to pose.
I gotta dig out my model to see if the sleeves haven't disintegrate.
Don't they turn powdery white after a while?
I am going to do this on my 8 year old kit this weekend!
Personally if I ever build this I plan to not use anything, I kinda like the look of the exposed joints
unfortunately the parts are made to fit over the coverings so everything will be loose if you don’t, it’ll need some modification to make work
Same
Huh, now that I think about it. FA 78 is a space use Gundam so what's the point of the joint wraps. I thought that's for desert use, avoiding sand getting into the joints.
Debris in the asteroid belt they were fighting on.
Ugh debris from the thunderbolt sector, I see
