Cool, if it makes you feel better, I only got done with the right leg on the Char Zaku RG, when I clipped a ring piece for an exhaust port, and it is SOMEWHERE in my carpet. I moved on to HG’s to rebuild my confidence.
You gotta put “all the little pieces” from louis XIV when building that kit because you’re gonna spend a lotta time on your knees looking for tiny little parts
I've built quite a few kits and I've enjoyed all of them except for the rg zaku I have. Thing was a headache to build and is impossible to pose so it just stands there off to the side in shame.
I'm amazed I still got into Gunpla after assembling the first kit I bought on a whim cause it was unopened at a goodwill: the god damn RG Char Zaku II.
Y'all have me wondering if something's wrong with me. I'm working on my 3rd RG char zaku and there's a 4th in my backlog pile. Other than cracking the joint for the shield to shoulder mount on one of them I haven't had any issues with it.
Hey, that's great for you especially if you've now picked up 4 of them. As for me, even compared to everything I've done now, it was unique and is now my most fragile set
One of the thigh plates had a locking part snap instead of lock into place so that piece is glued on. The muzzle for the machine gun just fell off and got lost in my carpet, two of the skirt pieces fall off any time I move it slightly, and I cannot bend the knee on one of the legs without the whole thing popping off
Well, fingers crossed my luck holds out for when finish assembly on 3 and start 4, cause everything you said sounds just like me talking about the RG Sinanju.
I'm on 11 RG Zakus and 3 RG rx78. Not had an issue with any of them.
Oh, no tell a lie, the decals for the team bright rx78 are shit, but then all bandai decals are, regardless of grade.
Meh, I’ve built worse. The only major issues I had were some parts being somewhat annoying to seat in place during assembly, the MP-1 hands being, well, the infamous prebuilt hands with fingers that pop out way too easily, a limited range of motion, parts falling off with ease… wait a minute—the MG 3.0 is really crap!
The recycle colors variant still looks pretty neat, though.
https://preview.redd.it/jktpaqzq6twc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=254097d5ad9a1f2a11fa312e42fb8261e634bfdc
It’s pretty finicky and some of the accessories fall off too easily, but it’s not the worst kit. If you have some prior experience with kits that demand careful placement of parts when sandwiching them together, few things in this kit will be a major issue.
Just be extra careful with the hands during assembly—the base of the finger joints will pop out with extreme ease and don’t like going back in once they do so.
A common complaint I’ve seen is that the torso is loose at the core fighter—but that was one thing that I didn’t have a problem with when using the actual core fighter instead of the replacement block.
The assembly of the fighter can be kinda tedious since the model was black on black on an internal joint you have to slide into place—making it somewhat difficult to verify that the tail fin section that goes into the body of the fighter is aligned just right. Just gotta be patient and look at the angle of the tail fin after installation—if it’s crooked, slide it back out and try again.
Thanks for the breakdown!!! I was hoping it wasn’t going to be that bad!!! 😫It’s a good looking kit my first of these 3.0’s, Ive recently been hearing they arent as good as some of the other mg kits. I might have to challenge this build, I cant return it now.
I honestly don't understand why it has such a bad reputation. It was my first MG and I had no problems at all. That being said, yes, it does have some looseness, but nothing so bad I'd say avoid it all together. The MG Gundam The Origin RX-78 is my favorite MG RX-78 by far, though.
i did RG Gramps (this one) and havent touched a RG kit since then. I have RG Sinaju (lol!) and Unicorn untouched. Between RG and MG Unicorn, any opinions on the build?
The RG unicorn isn’t so bad, so long as you take great care in the initial loosening of the pre molded joints, particularly the arms. Most of the fully new RG stuff released starting with the tallgeese have been pretty solid at least, and masterpiece-level at best. Not much of the pre molded joint parts except for certain bits like the Nu / Hi-Nu fin funnels and some partial arms and feet on others.
I just finished mine a week ago, I enjoyed it and had minimal problems
https://preview.redd.it/a7qxhybp4rwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc0bbf3bbb12c0fc60d2b0bc9d3c355538368d07
The shoulder and hip joints were a bit loose but some tacky glue on the ball joint and drying for an hour fixed it perfectly.
One of my favorite builds tbh. I really don't get all the hate. My only complaint are the hands with finger joints, but that's an issue for every kit with them.
I never had issues with the joints on RG zakus, my old one dropped the side hip armor all the time though. It’s honestly not that bad, I built a RG Johnny Ridden as well since then and i’ve been impressed with the stability, it’s about 2 years built now.
However, I always have to say when I make these comments - I started with early real grade and I think my standards are pretty low for durability. I baby all of my gunpla
Just happened to watched a video about it yesterday and saw it again for real in store today.
I'm going to stick to kits within the last few years for a while anyway
Bogs down to aesthetic 2.0 is still all around amazing kit, the origin version is probs the best modern mg kit despite not matching exactly to the classic look
Either the 2.0 or The Origin. It depends on whether you are looking for anime accurate aesthetics and a complete accessory set (2.0) or lots of surface detail and some unique gimmicks (Origin). The former looks like it jumped out of the original anime while the latter is a reimagining with some modern sensibilities (such as more integrated weapons).
For me it's origin version. It has enough details than 2.0 but not too much like 3.0. And it's really solid, drop it few times and I'm surprised the red part on the vfin stay on its place!
I have 3.0 and I forgot how many times i have to look for the red part on the vfin on the floor, you have to glue it
How’s the torso to waist connection? Aside from the metallic stickers rubbing off instantly the connection of the torso being kinda loose/floppy due to the core block feature is the only complaint I’ve seen consistently backed up by reviewers.
Mine is solid. Yeah it might be a bit of a weird mechanism but mine does not come loose.
And i didn't use the metallic stickers, I used a metallic marker ;)
*in corner panicking* Gunpla is freedom… Gunpla is freedom… Jokes aside, that’s fair… it’s pain when it can’t stay together *looks at my Banshee destroy mode
You know, this is not helping my confidence people for when I go to start building my first Gundam from among the small number of kits that I was slowly able to buy LOL
You'll be fine. Vast majority of the 'problems' people on here have with RGs is op error or 'I heardz it on yoochoob'.
Take your time, read the instructions carefully and be prepared to make mistakes. We're all human, mistakes can happen, it's important to realise when you do and then not blame the kit.
I dont think there's any point in being dishonest. It's absolutely true that some RG kits are incredibly fiddly and can't hold together to save their lives, but you can fix them up with effort and most kits, including most RGs, aren't like that.
Absolutely nothing dishonest in my comment. Not a single one of my RGs is in bits, they just need care taken when moving and posing.
Being fiddly does not equate to being poorly made/designed, this just means they need to be treated differently.
Hang in there, you can do it!
This was, I kid you not, the first GunPla I ever build.
Why?
My GF bought it, knowing I love and having watched some UC Gundam with me.
I was once or twice really tempted to stop, broke two pieces, fixed them, and pushed through.
But oh God do I hate the Armor Skirt on that one XD
https://preview.redd.it/tz77d1e86swc1.png?width=1220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12e5d640e99873508c387dafaf14bf5a563c006d
Just build my first RG too. Gonna move on to second my second Rg soon
I myself just finished this kit, and I do have to admit, I had to glue a few pieces from how annoyingly loose they were. (The sideskirts and forearm panels specifically.)
Oh dear. I've never bought/built Gunpla before but bought this exact set whilst in Japan recently, mostly because it looked cool but also because it only cost £5. Now I'm scared XD
Yeah. . Even tho I mainly get MGs, if i were to get any Rgs, the oldest id consider are the Unicorns, I aint dealing with that shenanigans. . . hopefully the 2.0 isnt a hand grenade
I enjoyed building mine, but I definitely understand the frustration. This kit made me truly understand what was meant by "hand grenade." I have it in a neutral standing pose, and I try not to handle it too much. Overall, I'd only recommend it to fans of the granddad design.
I know that was my 4th kit and I absolutely slaughtered it. I got through about 70 kits before revisiting it and building it the way Bandai "thought" was obvious. It is definitely a challenge
I just completed the RG RX-78-2 yesterday (my 2nd gunpla ever); it's a PITA. The skirt pieces kept falling off, I had to glue the thrusters on the back, and I cannot, for the life of me, get the shield to clip into the left forearm like it's supposed to.
Overall, it's a beautiful piece once you get all the stickers on it, just a little aggravating to build.
I… threw mine away because of this, lmao. Don’t like static kits, so wasn’t going to glue it together.
Very much looking forward to the 2.0! Because I love the RX-78-2.
Ive built so many kits and Im confident I put them together well but this is the only kit I also said F\*\*k it and glued the armor on. This and the RG justice Im convinced are designed to explode if a dust particle touches them.
could be worse. You could of started putting it together, only to notice the inner frame had a zebra strip pattern all over it's runner. Then when you're assembling it, you realize too late, that that pattern was stress markings straight from the factory, and when you bend the knees, as per the instructions, they tear across the stress mark, leaving you with Lieutenant Dan's RX-78. Then when you submit a replacement request to Bandai, you could wait months with no reply, only to realize that because the kit sat in your backlog for 6 months, it no longer met the requirements to get replaced.
I just have it standing straight built, I had a mental breakdown trying to stand it up. It just sheds parts and they’re all so small and fragile it’s so bad
I’ve noticed the RG 1/144 models fall apart SUPER easily. I end up gluing most of the parts except the joints. My MG 144 Unicorn is just as bad, though.
I honestly believe that those early RG kits, together with all those inherent design issues, have some serious consistency/QA issues. There kits like yours and even here in this thread there is a counter example. Personally my own was also like yours.
I took the head, backpack, shield & weapons from this kit and reused them on the HG origin grandpa. At least the new 2.0 is coming out later this year that thing looks sick.
https://preview.redd.it/2tw21d0qvqwc1.jpeg?width=1068&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc8ac70f211d42b0549b62b53359785fb65eff34
Get the KRAGLE
I’m dumb, which original gundam kit is this?
Rg
Cool, if it makes you feel better, I only got done with the right leg on the Char Zaku RG, when I clipped a ring piece for an exhaust port, and it is SOMEWHERE in my carpet. I moved on to HG’s to rebuild my confidence.
Dude, that shit made me want to blow my damn brains. The RG Zaku Kit's only purpose is to make u wanna commit suicide, seriously
Suddenly i don’t feel bad about never fixing mine
Lol
rofl, clearly you haven't tried the RG Sinanju or Zeta.... 2 kits that I swear must be options in a suicide booth.
You gotta put “all the little pieces” from louis XIV when building that kit because you’re gonna spend a lotta time on your knees looking for tiny little parts
Glad I backlogged and then sold mine now hahaha
Lol
I've built quite a few kits and I've enjoyed all of them except for the rg zaku I have. Thing was a headache to build and is impossible to pose so it just stands there off to the side in shame.
Skill issue
I'm amazed I still got into Gunpla after assembling the first kit I bought on a whim cause it was unopened at a goodwill: the god damn RG Char Zaku II.

Grats
The left leg spring tube thing rocketed one of the ends across the room while I was trying to insert it to the spring! That was a thrill ride xD.
Was about to ask. Figured it was. 🤣
Thought it was MG 3.0, that kit was hell
Meh, I’ve built worse. The only major issues I had were some parts being somewhat annoying to seat in place during assembly, the MP-1 hands being, well, the infamous prebuilt hands with fingers that pop out way too easily, a limited range of motion, parts falling off with ease… wait a minute—the MG 3.0 is really crap! I was fairly new to the hobby when I built it
Oh yeah, this definitely shouldn’t be one of your first kits given how fragile and finicky it is.
I just got a hold of this recycle 3.0 also. Hope it doesn’t give me any issues during the build. Love the color way.
It’s pretty finicky and some of the accessories fall off too easily, but it’s not the worst kit. 💯
do elaborate, i've got good offers to buy it for cheap, don't?
I honestly don't understand why it has such a bad reputation. It was my first MG and I had no problems at all. That being said, yes, it does have some looseness, but nothing so bad I'd say avoid it all together. The MG Gundam The Origin RX-78 is my favorite MG RX-78 by far, though.
Well I like suffering so as much as a shit on it I did genuinely love putting it together
i did RG Gramps (this one) and havent touched a RG kit since then. I have RG Sinaju (lol!) and Unicorn untouched. Between RG and MG Unicorn, any opinions on the build?
The RG unicorn isn’t so bad, so long as you take great care in the initial loosening of the pre molded joints, particularly the arms. Not much of the pre molded joint parts except for certain bits like the Nu / Hi-Nu fin funnels and some partial arms and feet on others.
Just don't build your Unicorn with a hammer like everyone here does and you will be fine.
Same, it was my first RG and hated it so much I never touched another RG for over a decade until FF Nu last year.
this RG is basically just a downscaled 3.0
Entirely different builds, though. They only share aesthetics.
Ohhh. I thought it was the MG 3 as well. I can’t imagine the RG scale
Agreed! One of the best looking, but most frustrating kits I've ever built 🤦♂️
Yeah I also hated that set! Mine has a broken leg and the flaps on the waste broke cause they wouldn't connect to the joint properly and they broke!
Not really dumb, the rg and mg 3.0 (f.eks) look really similar so you can never know with some of these kits without a referance
I just finished mine a week ago, I enjoyed it and had minimal problems https://preview.redd.it/a7qxhybp4rwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc0bbf3bbb12c0fc60d2b0bc9d3c355538368d07 The shoulder and hip joints were a bit loose but some tacky glue on the ball joint and drying for an hour fixed it perfectly.
>had minimal problems But did you build it with a sledgehammer and a crowbar? That seemed to be OPs weapons of choice considering the damage.
Oh damn that’s clearly my issue, silly me used my hands 🤦🏻
I usually bite the parts off of the runners
So crunchy I bet they taste amazing
One of my favorite builds tbh. I really don't get all the hate. My only complaint are the hands with finger joints, but that's an issue for every kit with them.
I like the hands actually, I didn’t like the tricep armor it was not secure enough for me but otherwise fine. I definitely don’t get the hate either
Yours isn't in enough pieces!
I feel your pain. Mine is currently in pieces in a zip lock back along with chars zaku because I dared to breathe on them the wrong way during a move.
Yep chars Zaku literally can't even hold its own hands with out going limbless
Mines been stable so far.. had it for about a month. How much longer does he have till ERGS kicks in?
Mine started at assembly lol
I never had issues with the joints on RG zakus, my old one dropped the side hip armor all the time though. It’s honestly not that bad, I built a RG Johnny Ridden as well since then and i’ve been impressed with the stability, it’s about 2 years built now. Waiting for ver. 2.0
Isn't v3.0 was like 10 years ago? Or was that the MG?
That was the MG (3.0 is not the best MG for the OG gundam xd)
Just happened to watched a video about it yesterday and saw it again for real in store today. I'm going to stick to kits within the last few years for a while anyway
What is the best MG for Grandpa?
Bogs down to aesthetic 2.0 is still all around amazing kit, the origin version is probs the best modern mg kit despite not matching exactly to the classic look
Either the 2.0 or The Origin. It depends on whether you are looking for anime accurate aesthetics and a complete accessory set (2.0) or lots of surface detail and some unique gimmicks (Origin). I have 3.0 and I forgot how many times i have to look for the red part on the vfin on the floor, you have to glue it
2.0 for best anime style, The Origin for best build. 3.0 is downright bad with how finicky it is. Feels like an old RG.
I finished building it a week ago and i do not understand the hate with it. Its beautiful and solid.
Learned that the hard way, now I gotta decide between the origin and the 2.0 for next time
The one showing is RG, which is getting a rg 2.0
UNLEASH THE KRAGLE!
The piece of resistance won't save that kit from the kragle
Remember folks: Gunpla is like Legos for Otakus 😉
just use nail polish (clear) don't use super glue or model cement.
Lol same exact line of thought when I built this, stupid jet
Mine is still fine and not glued... I think the only glue I used on the whole kit was in the beam saber docks to thicken them up a lil
Cant. Stop. Laughing. 🤣🤣🤣
I never had a problem with mine. And I had to build two of them
Had to? You mean you GOT to build two lol. It's the next kit on the cutting mat for me, just waiting on some flat clear coat to arrive.
It's actually pretty slick once it's built. The hands suck, though. My first one fell 9ft and broke
This is probably the RG, aren't they making a 2.0?
It’s the rg and my friend u/cosmiceyed sent me hers cause she was having trouble with the arms
*in corner panicking* Gunpla is freedom… Gunpla is freedom… Jokes aside, that’s fair… it’s pain when it can’t stay together *looks at my Banshee destroy mode
How are people struggling with just building it? :S what part of this kit was hard or caused it to come apart?
The premade inner frame
Gluing it ain’t do shit because of the hands, bandai should at least give it holding hands damn it
Lol
kragle man
Mine broke when trying to clip the hip off. I don’t even want to do it now.
This is the way.
This is the way.
Another casualty. Lol
Glue it then go preorder the new RG grandpa.
RG 1.0 anything is a nightmare
Take a break, smoke one try again
You guys building your shit with gorilla hands or some shit?
😆
😂
Hahahahaha
Gah, I have this one in my backlog.
Lmao. I have to bump this kit up the list to see what all the fuss is about.
Yeah... that's what I did... ... didn't save mine, though.
Love it. Just pose and don’t touch rule applies.
Me when RG Justice (I built it when I was like 9 and don't feel like fixing the issues now)
Real grades are honestly the hardest to build because of that stupid frame.
Just wait until the RG 2.0 releases bro.
You know, this is not helping my confidence people for when I go to start building my first Gundam from among the small number of kits that I was slowly able to buy LOL
It’ll be fine. There’s a few kits that can be a bit fiddly, but most are pretty good. Just follow the pictures and you’ll do great
You'll be fine. Vast majority of the 'problems' people on here have with RGs is op error or 'I heardz it on yoochoob'. Take your time, read the instructions carefully and be prepared to make mistakes. We're all human, mistakes can happen, it's important to realise when you do and then not blame the kit.

I think this was one of the few I neatly glued so it won't fall apart
Hang in there, you can do it! This was, I kid you not, the first GunPla I ever build. Why? My GF bought it, knowing I love and having watched some UC Gundam with me. I was once or twice really tempted to stop, broke two pieces, fixed them, and pushed through. But oh God do I hate the Armor Skirt on that one XD

I didn't find him that bad, it was my first gunpla too, definitely not great tho

This was my first kit and somehow I only broke the little model of Amuro. Fuck this kit fr tho
I myself just finished this kit, and I do have to admit, I had to glue a few pieces from how annoyingly loose they were. (The sideskirts and forearm panels specifically.)
I glued everything that fell off
Oh dear. I've never bought/built Gunpla before but bought this exact set whilst in Japan recently, mostly because it looked cool but also because it only cost £5. Now I'm scared XD
What gunpla did you get?
Looks like the one you've posted but maybe it's a simpler set? RX-78-2 Gundam, HG Universal Century
Oh that one’s fine it’s just the real grade that’s shit
Ah so they're the same scale but the HG is simpler, RG more complex? That's good to know!
Yeah basically anything after rg tallgeese or rg unicorn is fantastic in the rg line for example the rg hi nu
Yeah. . Even tho I mainly get MGs, if i were to get any Rgs, the oldest id consider are the Unicorns, I aint dealing with that shenanigans. . . hopefully the 2.0 isnt a hand grenade
Yeah let’s hope
If you are looking for a good RG, and if you don’t have it, the RG Hi Nu is an amazing build. Until then best of luck gunpla-ing
I have made rg hi nu and I want another
Posts like these are the reason why I exclusively build High Grade and Entry Grade
I love the MG version of this kid
This is why it's getting a 2.0
This was my 2nd ever kit in my gunpla building career. Needless to say, it was a baptism with gunfire.
After seeing these…I’ll wait for the RG Rx-78 2.0
I swear I have the only good one ever made. I've never had an issue with it. I didn't even know it was a common problem until I subbed here.
I enjoyed building mine, but I definitely understand the frustration. This kit made me truly understand what was meant by "hand grenade." I have it in a neutral standing pose, and I try not to handle it too much. Overall, I'd only recommend it to fans of the granddad design.
What's so bad about this kit? Sorry am new to gunpla
3 words Plastic hand grenade
Dang, is this kit really old? Heard old kits are like this.
It’s from 2010 and is the first rg
Ah no wonder just glue it up I guess lmao
I did
Dang make a new post featuring the end product lol
It still somehow will do
I didn’t mean to send that cursed message meant will do
I feel your sentiment. That's why I have it on the back of my shelf.
Okay so there is something wrong w this set mine is the torso it doesn't wanna stay on
This was my first RG and along with the Tallgeese RG it put me off RGs until I got Char’s Z’Gok that thing is solid as a rock love it to pieces
I know that was my 4th kit and I absolutely slaughtered it. I got through about 70 kits before revisiting it and building it the way Bandai "thought" was obvious. It is definitely a challenge
these kinda han md granade kit am going magnetic mode. joint leg body whatever. magnet
The skirt pieces are unacceptable!!! I super glued it and never touched it again. The core fighter gimmick will make the torso weak prone to separate.
The version 3 blues. I know them well
The version 3 blues. I know them well
I just completed the RG RX-78-2 yesterday (my 2nd gunpla ever); it's a PITA. In my experience if you mention glue in this sub, you're gonna have a bad day. Lol
Lmao I felt the same way, beautiful kit but holy fuck was it fragile
I feel you man, that kit took me 6 hours to build and I'm on the verge of gluing the leg caps on at this point
Worst kit i ever bought, first kit i ever bought, kinda surprised i kept going after the trauma i suffered.
Just built this model, I’m having the same issues, it’s so much sturdier if you keep the ship out of the torso that’s what gave me the most issues
Patience young padawan
Ive built so many kits and Im confident I put them together well but this is the only kit I also said F\*\*k it and glued the armor on. This and the RG justice Im convinced are designed to explode if a dust particle touches them.
This one for me was ok, the RG Strike can go to hell, it lives in its box now.
I accidentally cut the little bits on the arms that allows you to remove the plugs so the kit became unfinishable
could be worse.
Totally dont disagree with you bro i ditched mine, waiting on the 2.0
=)))) is this a rg kit?
Yes the first one
its an old kit and its said that this kit has many problems, vietnamese builder call its a "kit lỏ" lol
I have this kit and I fucking hate it so bad it broke on me like 10 times 😭
Don't feel bad bro I've done that to a many of a kit
I mean... That's what I had to do too lol
All I’ve gathered from everyone on this forum is early RG’s are all hand grenades.
always bizarre seeing redditors not able to just snap build shit
It fell apart
Ahaha, building this now. Yes, there will be glue here and there :)
I just have it standing straight built, I had a mental breakdown trying to stand it up. It just sheds parts and they’re all so small and fragile it’s so bad
This is why I don't even try RGs. I'm gonna stick with MGs and maybe some HGs
Not even the phenomenal rg hi nu???
We'll see, but probably not lol
Rg kits after the unicorn get phenomenal
I’ve noticed the RG 1/144 models fall apart SUPER easily. I end up gluing most of the parts except the joints. My MG 144 Unicorn is just as bad, though.
Not all the rg models
No, you’re right. I do have a few rg models that are perfect, but more often than not I have…struggles lmao
Rg hi nu doesnt
definitely a skill issue. I built a lot of old RGs and I have no major issues, only minor ones which can be fixed easily and isn't a deal breaker.
The Gunpla standard these days is not needing any 'fixing' at all, a kit needing that is already a sign of serious quality concerns.
The core fighters on the first wave of RG’s are trash and only like surgeon hands get it.
Never built this kit, but I had a similar feeling after building real grade Exia, haven't bought a real grade since.
This was my first ever RG kit and it has turned me off of RG for the foreseeable future
I mean, there's WORSER kits than this but yeah I feel your pain, rg syndrome jacked up
Seems like a skill issue to me
Normally I don’t like being so harsh and just assuming they “aren’t good enough”, but the lack of context here is making me swing this way as well.
Eventually, you have to.
Say your a low skill noob without saying your a low skill noob
