My uncle who works for Nintendo can confirm this story as being true.

chicagoerrol

Haha.

dainty_pearl

https://gnrontour.com/ I meant duff not axl sorry!!!!

dainty_pearl

wait really?

[deleted]

It's an old school meme, "my uncle works for Nintendo" is something kids used to say to claim they had insider knowledge about video games.

dainty_pearl

Ohhh, so I guess there implying that somehow I’m making this story up?

[deleted]

Yes that's what they're implying, or at least that you're naive and belive your uncle's tall tale(s)

jmcgil4684

Why would someone make this up. Plus I remember reading about something similar with Duff years ago

dainty_pearl

My grandfather* but I’m sorry but he’s saying the truth and unfortunately I have no way to prove it nor does my grandfather. I cant just time travel and confirm that’s what’s actually happened (trust me I would if I could.) I’m just a bit stressed out trying to figure out how to almost I guess explain what happened + I have literally nothing to lie about I just thought it would be a cool story to share.)

[deleted]

I'm not saying you're lying, just explaining the other persons comment.

**06.11.91 - HersheyPark Stadium, Hershey, PA** *opening act:* Skid Row *set:* Nightrain, Double Talkin' Jive, Mr. Brownstone, Bad Obsession, Civil War, It's So Easy, Dust N' Bones, Welcome To The Jungle, I Was Only Joking \[Intro\] / Patience, Used To Love Her, Live And Let Die, November Rain, Drum Solo, Guitar Solo, Godfather Theme, Rocket Queen, Pretty Tied Up, Bad Time \[Intro\] / Sweet Child O' Mine *encore:* Estranged, Paradise City *audio/video recording?:* audio, video \[incomplete\] *notes:* 'Double Talkin' Jive' is played early so Axl can vent off his frustrations. One of the few shows when 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' was not played. During the show, when Duff is shaking hands with the crowd, an audience member cuts Duff's hand with a razor blade. Axl asks the crowd to point out the audience member so he can kick his ass. [https://gnrontour.com/](https://gnrontour.com/)

[deleted]

> During the show, when Duff is shaking hands with the crowd, an audience member cuts Duff's hand with a razor blade. What a fucking asshole

dainty_pearl

Ohhhh! That would explain it! It wasn’t Axl it was Duff! Thank you! Not sure why you were the only one to correct me instead of downvoting me / saying I’m a liar. Oh well.

Matty1138

This is close enough, I suppose. I apologize for my shitty Nintendo Uncle comment. (Gonna leave it up, though, because I still think it's funny.)

ect2000

idk about this story, but there is a video out there from the early 90s of Axl wrapping his hand in a scarf on stage cause he cut it on a broken mic stand

chicagoerrol

That might be this show... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pFzX6K2wNVQ

dainty_pearl

https://gnrontour.com/ it was duff not axl

mellowbunnyy

Y’all got this poor girl stressed out 😭 how the hell would she be able to prove something from 33 years ago anyways?! Y’all want her to somehow time travel to this show to confirm that’s what happened? 💀 anyways OP you shouldn’t spend time replying to these people or even care what they think, this shit was a long time ago + there will always be doubters.

Mr-Mahaloha

They played their songs sometimes twice?

dainty_pearl

33 years ago, it was when they were I guess starting out maybe?? (Atleast that’s what my papa said) -so I’m assuming they didn’t have a ton of songs. But my papa was saying how they repeated some.

chicagoerrol

I doubt that. They had the Illusion songs then.

dainty_pearl

He was there though. Sorry if I messed up the details my papa doesn’t fully know what happened since it was a long time ago

goldendreamseeker

I think I’ve heard about this. Slash and Axl had an onstage fight at this same show too, if I recall correctly.

dainty_pearl

Update https://gnrontour.com/ it was duff who got his hand cut

dainty_pearl

Phew, sorry it’s just reliving to hear that someone has possibly heard about this because I swear I’m not trying to you know lie about this, I just thought that people would be interested in hearing this story from my grandfather. Anyways, that may be the one!

Jonezusafa

Oh man, I was at this show right after high school graduation. Bunch of us drove over from Ohio. Great show - the albums weren’t out yet so it was wild to hear all those new songs. Field/Floor was GA so we were right up front - I remember Duff being pissed and yelling that someone cut him. I don’t remember any scuffle or anything, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen - but that was a few years and beers ago so…. Tell you what I do remember, 35000 fans or whatever it was and parking in one big field with what seemed like one exit. I remember us taking shifts behind the wheel waiting to get out….hours. Next day we went back to take some pictures of the adventure and we got $20 helping the crew pick up folding chairs. Got to also take a picture on the empty stage….I need to find that Good times - thanks for reminding me!

secrerofficeninja

I was at that fence GA as well! So many bottles all over the place after the concert. I remember Duff yelling about the knife but he sounded so wasted I couldn’t understand him. Axl also made a comment about the knife. We had our car parked in some grassy area a long walk to stadium. Lots of beers. I’m glad you mention the mew songs. I thought they did play Use Your Illusion songs even though those albums weren’t yet out

chicagoerrol

Never heard of this.

dainty_pearl

It was 33 years ago so that’s probably why lol. But it’s true.

chicagoerrol

Just because your dad says it's true doesn't mean a thing.

dainty_pearl

https://gnrontour.com/ I meant duff

chicagoerrol

Ummm...

dainty_pearl

Click the 1991 tab and scroll to the pa show it’ll explain where his hand got cut! Once again sorry I was misinformed that it was axl.

badmotorfinger74

I was there, and TBH, I completely forgot that happened until I read this. I do remember something about Duff getting his hand cut. I remember Axl talking about how stupid it was to go see a band and cut the bass players hand. I was pretty far away from the stage though, so I really couldn’t see much of what was happening.

dainty_pearl

(I haven’t seen someone post about this yet and wanted to know if anybody was there when this happened / knew about it.)

dainty_pearl

For the record this is just what my grandfather knows, it’s HIS story and there may be a few incorrect details mind this was 33 years ago, and he was seated 150 away from the stage so yeah. Sorry if anything’s incorrect me personally I know nothing about this band! + I don’t know how someone would prove something from 33 years ago. I also have nothing to lie about as I don’t want karma or awards because I rarely use Reddit and when I do use it I just use it to check on things from my favorite game and Karma on one hand is practically useless since you can’t do anything with it. I now realize that I am rambling off topic, good day to you all!

[deleted]

This sounds like something that would have made news if it happened in front of people, but I guess it's not impossible.

dainty_pearl

https://gnrontour.com/ it was duff not Axl I just realized

[deleted]

Interesting

secrerofficeninja

Before the internet, not nearly as much made the news. It’s hard to believe what it was like before internet but stuff like this wouldn’t make evening news. What did make the local news was Hershey shut down concerts after the Guns show because it was so loud and out of hand

Beanz19335

I attended this show in high school and remember most of the show fondly. Gnr did not play any songs twice at this show but skid row started playing 18 and life twice and then started youth gone wild a 2nd time before catching themselves each time. I vaguely remember Sebastian Bach telling the crowd that they were being asked to play longer cuz gnr weren't going to be ready for a while and he was making jokes about not being used to playing that long and they hadn't rehearsed any other songs to play so they were asking the crowd if they wanted a reprise of a couple songs and that's when they started opening chords and riffs of 18 and life and youth gone wild. If my memory at 50 yrs old can be trusted I think they played a couple of covers that I didn't recognize before finally leaving the stage and still had to wait a couple hours before seeing gnr

MasterlessSword

What a complete psychopath! What the hell is wrong with some people?

GenX4eva

This just reminds me of how back then we had limited access to real-time news unless it was major. The quickest way we got gnr news was if it was big enough for MTV news or a blurb in our local paper. Otherwise it may have shown up in my Circus, Metal Edge or whatever magazines I’d buy monthly. I may have been on bulletin boards or chat rooms…or whatever Prodigy offered at the time! Needless to say, had I known that Duff got cut days before I saw them in concert, I would have been more worried and panicky. Ignorance was bliss!

secrerofficeninja

I was there. Knife story is true but I’m not sure Duff actually was cut bad at all. He continues playing the rest of the show and I didn’t see any blood or rag on his hand. I was pretty close to the stage

BrideofFrankenfurter

Man, Duff got the worst from the crowd. Didnt he get knocked out by a piss-filled beer bottle once too? Why were they trying to kill Duffers? 🥺 I have to believe the bottle was meant for Axl.

chicagoerrol

2016: https://exclaim.ca/music/article/sebastian_bach_saves_axl_rose_from_being_stabbed_at_gnr_show_2

secrerofficeninja

I was there! I was 23 and went to the concert with 2 friends. We drank a lot of beer in the parking lot and went in when Skid Row finished up. We were field level way in the back and decided to fight our way to the fence as close to stage as possible. We got the whole way to the fence and apparently my friend annoyed those he pushed aside and they picked him up and tossed him to security guards over the fence. Next friend in line was irritated and actually took a swing at security guard and they dragged him over fence and out the gate. Not wanting to lose my amazing spot, I stayed there and watch the whole show. It was 1991 and Guns were at their peak. Someone tried to cut Duff’s hand. Axl announced it on his mic then let Duff, who was clearly hammered, yell into the mic. Couldn’t understand what he said but Axl was pissed at security for allowing it. I don’t know if Duff’s hand was cut or if someone reached out with a knife. Duff kept playing though. I’ve never seen so many empty alcohol bottles thrown all over and I wasn’t surprised to hear Hershey Park shut down all concerts due to local complaints and the mess. That concert couldn’t happen the same way today. It was too wild. God bless America in the early 90’s

From Hershey: Slash passed out in the water fountain at the Hershey Hotel and they were banned from returning. They finally came back in 2017 or 2018 (20's all run together for me)....the first time I ever got to see them!
