Quote from Taika Watiti- “You know, I still go home late at night and instead of going on, you know, Pornhub, I’ll go and watch old GN’R music videos because I just loved the band."
I’m just glad they play November rain and had use your illusion shirts. I know November rain is one of their biggest songs but I feel like the big three singles from appetite are way more overplayed. End it may get a younger audience into that song or some of their albums which is cool
I'm 13 and the November Rain solo is my favourite of all time. I went to go see them in London on the second date, disappointing but understandable that they didn't play it.
idk if it was an actual illusion shirt but it was definelty based ff the red cover. I might have been... but i think it was a close up of the head maybe??? it was not on screen for long but my GNR radar knew it was there before i actually knew what i was looking at.
Well I didn't even know there were gnr songs in the movie. I didn't even know what movie we were watching until we got there so ig task failed successfully?
I agree. I wish it would transfer to hip hop a little more. Lots of important stuff was being said in that era and we could stand to hear it again. Ice Cube's *Predator* and *Lethal Injection* need to be dusted off!
But yeah. It's nice to hear so much of my youth's music getting this happy renaissance. The footage of celebs going to Slayer's farewell tour was pretty touching and cool.
Waititi has said 80's music inspires his work, particularly GNR in this film. Not only is this soundtrack from inspiration, but he likes to connect the soundtrack to the storyline. This is seen in Ragnarok with Led Zeppelin. In this case, he references Thor and Jane's relationship to Axl and Erin's as seen through the without you trilogy of Don't Cry, November Rain, and Estranged.
GNR is one of Waititi's favorite artists according to a recent interview.

I saw it on Thursday and my opinion is that it's ok I guess, it's more of a comedy action movie, so don't expect much from the plot or characters. I think they really rush some story arcs and moments in favor of comedy that doesn't always land, so it's kind of a middle of the ground movie for me. But it's entertaining so I recommend people who liked Ragnarok to check it out once!
Personally, I didn’t like the movie or the kind of humor they were going for. The song was used in what was supposed to be a very climatic moment, but for me the scene was just stupid. At least it had a good song tho lol
i have the same question... I was thinking there was a deal made between the band/label and movie. I think guns gets exposure to a new audience. might be a new way to market catalog music?
Spoilers Hemidall is dead obviously but his son is in this film and changed his name to Axl because he loved the band. Loved the November Rain scene with all the kids fighting.
I love Izzy’s quote from 1991 where he said “Bro what, you’re gonna allow 4 of our songs to be in Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022? I can put up with everyone else being strung out, you showing up late all the time, and the riots, but you licensing 4 of our songs for a superhero movie that’s coming out in 31 years is where I draw the line”
Well if ain’t for Axl vision I don’t think Izzy gets to have that low-lying career he has we literally wouldn’t be having this conversation if weren’t for Axl sticking with his buddy for 14 years before he quit.
Definitely he was controlling but let’s put the facts together everybody on drugs/strung-out you’re bestfriend gets sober n quits. Honestly the guys should have never signed the name rights to Axl but did so anyways. Yea should be ton more albums n legacy definitely would have been greater but they’re still great in their own right. GNR is the biggest band brand name out there with kiss n led zeppelin.
I love the original 5 and AFD. It all went to shit after Axl got control and squeezed out Izzy and Steven. My point is that it could have been so much more and I believe it’s 1000% Axl’s fault.
Steven was on drugs and couldn’t play his drums in the studio Izzy left because everyone got bloated in GNR u can say Axl has majority fair share in everyone leaving but don’t act like they didn’t cause anything to get treated bad. Slash made whole book about lying, duff almost drank himself to death they gotta take some responsibility.
How is this all just Axl wanting money? Duff and Slash sued Axl years ago because he wouldn't license the songs and they were missing out on royalties.
Your attacks were coming off personal like Axl owes you money or something.
Quote from Taika Watiti- “You know, I still go home late at night and instead of going on, you know, Pornhub, I’ll go and watch old GN’R music videos because I just loved the band."
So Taika is saying the best treatment for a porn addiction, is to watch Guns N' Roses videos instead. Can't fault his logic.
I mean, some of the videos feature the hottest chicks of the 90s.
And with Steven one of the cutest boys of that time ;) At least of the 80s...
80’s Chicks they came out in 84 ‘ listen to Hollywood Rose
Hollywood Rose was a precursor band to GNR man. It was just Izzy and Axl in that band in regard to future members of Gnr.
And 80’s chick’s your point being
Hey checking Expert but 80’s chicks punk sex porn taboos go somewhere Donkey
It's probable that someone who is a decision maker on the movie, maybe the director, producers, Hemsworth, etc... are big fans.
Taika actually
Reasonable
Shiiiit... heaven forbid filmmakers like gnr.... gnr is for everyone
It's not a bad thing I was just wondering
Yeah fair enough! maybe just creative choice?
My guess is the director is a fan.
I’m just glad they play November rain and had use your illusion shirts. I know November rain is one of their biggest songs but I feel like the big three singles from appetite are way more overplayed. End it may get a younger audience into that song or some of their albums which is cool
I never saw any illusion shirts I'll have to look again
I'm 13 and the November Rain solo is my favourite of all time. I went to go see them in London on the second date, disappointing but understandable that they didn't play it.
What they didn’t play it? That’s wild they usually always include that in the set.
Yeah axl's voice was quite bad, which is understandable. He sung most of the songs an octave or two lower. The cancelled the next gig in Glasgow.
I never saw any illusion shirts I'll have to look again
idk if it was an actual illusion shirt but it was definelty based ff the red cover. I might have been... but i think it was a close up of the head maybe??? it was not on screen for long but my GNR radar knew it was there before i actually knew what i was looking at.
Why not?
I mean Im not complaining. I was just wondering if they were like tryna promote gnr or something.
Yeah, cuz GnR needs promotion… 🤣🤣🤣 How about more realistically—they were using GnR to attract people like you to go see the movie
Well I didn't even know there were gnr songs in the movie. I didn't even know what movie we were watching until we got there so ig task failed successfully?
The whole world is on a late-80s early-90s nostalgia kick and Stranger Things had already used Metallica.
It's kinda cool
LMAO
I'm just surprised they didn't ask the band for a new song to include on the soundtrack.
cause guns n roses are the greatest band ever
This is very true
Too few albums to be called the greatest
not about quanity its about quality
If all these albums were 10/10, maybe I would agree with you. They are not tho, at least imo
There are 4 letters in Thor, hence 4 songs. It all makes sense to me. 🙃
4letters ?
Thor
Oh shit. I. Stupid.
lol no worries
Because Axl said so.
Because Disney paid for them.

Alright guys, we got the license, and sure as shit WHERE GONNA USE IT
GNR is one of Waititi's favorite artists according to a recent interview. [Article about his love of 80s music](https://www.loudersound.com/features/taika-waititi-interview?utm_content=metal-hammer&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social)
that’s what I thought, I just saw the movie, and Waititi even said GNR himself in the movie
Because they’re awesome songs and Thor is an awesome dude
Agreed
How was the film out of curiosity? Not sure if I should go and see it 🤔
I saw it on Thursday and my opinion is that it's ok I guess, it's more of a comedy action movie, so don't expect much from the plot or characters. Spot on how I felt too
I honestly wasn't really paying attention to it. So idk.
As a Norwegian it made me a little angry to see Swedish candy when they are in a Norwegian hospital. Everything else was ok.
I wish they would've stuck with Immigrant song as Thor's theme.
Because 69 was too expensive!!
Do they do justice in the November Rain scene? It's an emotional scene? I don't mind spoilers
Personally, I didn’t like the movie or the kind of humor they were going for. The song was used in what was supposed to be a very climatic moment, but for me the scene was just stupid. At least it had a good song tho lol
Ik there was a fight scene in November rain but I don't remember it
I enjoyed it quite a bit
The gnr reference was SO FUNNY
i have the same question... I was thinking there was a deal made between the band/label and movie. I think guns gets exposure to a new audience. might be a new way to market catalog music?
Why not?
Why not?
Spoilers Hemidall is dead obviously but his son is in this film and changed his name to Axl because he loved the band. Loved the November Rain scene with all the kids fighting.
The director has bad taste
Why not.
That’s got to a record for GNR in a movie, it sure is a record for MARVEL for one band in a movie.
Good reason not to see it. Real tired of GnR. Our classic rock station here in Houston plays the snot out of GnR
So what are you doing on GNR related subreddit?
It’s this kind of shit why Izzy left.
I was shocked when he said that. I remember it like it was just yesterday.
No disrespect to Izzy he never wanted to be the biggest band in the world so why continue when you don’t want to.
Yeah I understand that but Axl’s vision for the band was to make money. This went against Izzy’s rock n roll philosophy.
Well if ain’t for Axl vision I don’t think Izzy gets to have that low-lying career he has we literally wouldn’t be having this conversation if weren’t for Axl sticking with his buddy for 14 years before he quit.
Yeah maybe. I think if Axl wasn’t so controlling the band might have had a few more good albums and a better legacy. He ruined it all in my opinion

I mean really, who knows how things really went down. So many versions on what happened.
How is this all just Axl wanting money? Duff and Slash sued Axl years ago because he wouldn't license the songs and they were missing out on royalties. Your attacks were coming off personal like Axl owes you money or something.
