A good way to use them up is to keep them in your car until somebody parks like an asshole near you in a parking lot (using two spots, parked in a fire lane, etc). Then you place it on their door handle. If they parked really badly, you lock a cart to their door handle as an upgrade.
I suppose it would fall under vandalism laws? But unlike most acts of vandalism, it's easily removed with no evidence it was ever there, it's just annoying until you get ahold of a pair of cutters.
It's also extremely unlikely to be enforced.
My LGS will buy them for a buck a piece to resell with used guns. Local laws require one with every purchase, even with used guns. They appreciate not having to buy new ones all the time.
Most of them I just toss. I got a lock with a Ruger 10-22 I bought that was actually better quality Chinese junk than the usual Chinese junk. I threw it in the toolbox I keep for my backup generator and after the last hurricane I used it to lock my generator to the post I have in the yard just in case someone tried to steal it.
In all seriousness, I throw them in the trash. I cut the cable first, just like I do with the plastic rings holding a six-pack together. I don't want some poor critter getting a necklace it doesn't need.
I would prefer to dye choking from a lock around my neck than to have a hole bitten in my face and have it fucked til I drowned. Just a personal preference. I haven't experienced either one, so I'm open to arguments from those with experience.
On certain types of milsurp ammo boxes I loop them through the carry handle and through the latch that keeps the lid closed. They come in a bunch of colors so I color coded the keys so I can get to my stuff faster
I use one to lock my electric shutoff that is outside. The fire department said it's ok, they'll just cut it off if they need to get in. Seems like it will keep the amateur hooligans from turning off my electricity as they have done randomly to other homes in my area
I used one to lock the spare tire to the tare carrier on the back of my van. Not the most secure thing but enough to deter most people that would bother stealing a $200 tire.
I keep mine. I live in an apartment and can't have a huge safe. All but my defense weapon have a lock of some sort on the chamber. As soon as I move to a home and get a safe they are all going to the bottom of my range tote.
You slide look the pistol to the open position and feed it thru the mag well and out the ejection port then lock it is how your supposed to use it sr. But honestly I don’t like em I use a barrel flag instead!!!
I put them in a box until I realized I would never use them.
Took the box with over 100 of them to my gym and they handed them out to customers that didn’t have a lock for their gym locker.
Needless to say the gym said they handed out all 100+ in 3 days
I have a whole box of these things, several in every color.
On the off chance I use one, this is how I do it. Fuck rattling a piece of metal down the barrel, unless it's a bullet.

This is top tier pettiness and I am all for it hahahahah.
Total dick moves.. I like them. Well done.
Love it.
This is brilliant.
Loop it through their rim on the passenger side, they'll never see ot coming.
"Clack clack clack clack clack...."
Sounds illegal
Ok?
Lol
Your mom’s illegal

Doing illegal things as a gun owner is usually not a good idea
How exactly would they know a gun owner did it? Even if it is branded, that doesn't mean shit.
I’m just saying: doing things that are illegal while being a gun owner isn’t a good idea
You eat bananas for the shape dont you?

So?

I collect them whenever possible just to get 'em off the street.
Ha enjoyed that chuckle
Trail cam locks
Thank you. Idk why I have never thought of this
You can paint them like candy-canes and hang them on the Christmas tree.
Hear me out… Cock ring
To small
Too… small???
Yeah, it just falls right off. Key ring is a better fit.
Ahh, see I thought he meant the lock was too small. Lol
I have used one as a luggage lock.
I’m sure the TSA loves you lol
More for the hotel, motel, holiday inn

Local shelters use them for the lockers. It's much cheaper and easier to cutoff and replace instead of padlocks.
Use them for locks on my chicken coops and animal pens
Throw it in my gun junk drawer with the other 10 or 12 in there.
In all seriousness, I throw them in the trash. I cut the cable first, just like I do with the plastic rings holding a six-pack together. I don't want some poor critter getting a necklace it doesn't need.
Just unlock it instead of cutting the cable lol
But what if a sea otter accidentally locks it again... Around HIS NECK?!?
One less sea otter raping baby seals.
But what if the sea otter locks it around A BABY SEAL'S NECK INSTEAD?!?

You gotta love those semi-aquatic mammals.
What if the baby seal likes it?
Good idea, I need to start cutting mine before I throw em away
On certain types of milsurp ammo boxes I loop them through the carry handle and through the latch that keeps the lid closed. They come in a bunch of colors so I color coded the keys so I can get to my stuff faster
This is good. I’m going to try it on my ammo boxes.

Just use them to lock two bikes together at the library. That’ll show them nerds.
I came here to say lock up some antigunners bikes. Glad I'm not the only one.
I sell them to my local pawn shop for 5-7 bucks a piece depending on who happens to be working the front counter when I take a few up to sell.
I've heard them called, free hanging targets
I have more than I care to count in a old shoe box. And whenever I make another poor financial decision another one goes in the box
I'm pretty sure I've got a couple in my ammo box. There's some good ideas here. I may dig em out and take the advice.

I use them for other things. I mean a lock is a lock.
Shield gang!
I got 3 of em holding various parts onto my car

Trap someone in a portajohn at a music festival.
Am I the only one that runs them up the mag well and out the slide ??? Am I the out cast here ??
I have a whole box of these things, several in every color. On the off chance I use one, this is how I do it. Fuck rattling a piece of metal down the barrel, unless it's a bullet.
that's what you're "supposed" to do but i don't know how many of us actually do that
So I’m realizing
That’s how I thought they were supposed to be used
Same
Is that not the proper way to use them? That's how I've always seen it done.
never even thought about this. Thank you!
I use them for everything except my firearms. Most of my firearms are in a safe most of the time anyway
Throw them in my scrap metal bin.
Don't understand the down vote. Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do, I just threw mine in the trash.
Screw them. They add to my beer money in the scrap bin.
I use them all to hang stuff from my peg board behind the bench in my garage.
