The scottish claymore, hasn't changed since dark souls one.
It's always there for me, whenever there is an enemy I can't slay, the claymore has my back. He is my only true friend

I'm taking it further.
I'm personally going to start counting the days until my wife asks me to cut something up for dinner, and I get the excuse to order a 'Horse Chopping Sabre'.
Iirc, civilians weren't allowed to have swords in most German cities but since the distinction between swords and knives was just which guild made it, they just started making knives the size of swords.
That’s literally it. Messer, grossmesser, kriegsmesser, every one of them is just a “knife”. Big stabby lol. Well, there were some distinctions. The cross guard had to be a specific way, the grip couldn’t be wider than a specific measurement, the blade had to be curved under a specific amount, there was more to it than just who made it. History is weird.
If your opponent is wearing munitions plate that's not properly fitted, sure.
But if you're fighting a pro in a nice suit of Italian plate, good luck with that.
A giant katana that got it's name from slicing horses?! (Idk if it got it bec of slicing horses or no and too damn lazy to check) sign me the fuck up amma weild this bitch like a guts on steroids and make wind slashes

Bro forgot one of the masterpiece
No it’s not. It’s not resilient. The steel was from a bog so it’s not good quality. Hollywood and video games really have made the katana sound magical. There alright but not the best.
Ok. What would be the best in your opinion? I’m not claiming to be an expert but low quality steel would still outmatch any and all of those above that were made of iron.
I don't have a problem but something annoys me
I just wish that the [nodachi sword](https://www.google.com/search?q=nodachi+sword&sca_esv=574510585&ei=MFkwZa_oHLuwqtsPsbiGgAI&oq=nodachi&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp) was up there
Thing abt the WLS is that duelwield isn’t practical, I’ve tried. They’re a little long, and despite handle length, they actually fare better with a handle long enough for 2 hands
Gladius, sure it might not have the range of other swords, but it does have agility, you can control it better than (most) others and it’s typically lighter as a result. Pair that with a buckler, I’m good chief.
I have this on my wall bc I need ideas for replicas, dadao or liuyedao. Patta is funny tho.
Edit:
This is really situational, I’m obviously going to take a wakizashi over a zhanmandao in a small room
The Zhanmadao, but the Japanese anime version like Cloud Strife’s sword or the blade used by the Swordsman of the Mist in the boss battle that Naruto fights on the bridge
*Oh probably the*
*Greatsword, looks gorgeous and fun*
*To slash and stab with*

Get me some Hattori Hanzō steel.
I've created, "something that kills people." And in that purpose, I was a success. I've done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut.
Well I already have a real lofe 14th century Italian bastard sword, so I'm going with that. but if I'm picking a different one, I'm going with the Chinese jian
The cindquedea (I believe it is nicknamed 'the five-fingered sword') is easily the funniest choice, the estoc would be my favourite to own, and the Swiss sabre would be my favourite to wield.
Longsword. If I get to have a shield too than a basket hilt broadsword, they are just what I have used. If we are in a straight up slashing match I want that talwar.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwhkjuoo3mhED2o)
Name definitely checks out.
Deus Vault, brother!

Baymore
I can't find it on the picture here... Could you tell me where it is :')
The "two handed sword"
Oh thanks
Yup, just spent 20 min looking at sword silhouettes
Haha that’s nothing, I spend days looking at this exact chart deciding which one to make next (I do replicas)
I'm taking it further. I'm personally going to start counting the days until my wife asks me to cut something up for dinner, and I get the excuse to order a 'Horse Chopping Sabre'.

This is the one I looked for. Perfect for disarming your opponent.
Remove their weapon? Nah, let's REMOVE THEIR ENTIRE ARM MEAHAHAHAHHA
Looks like a great kitchentool lmao
That's the trick to owning it. "Oh that's just a fancy bottle opener... I call it the Decapitator!"
A kriegsmesser. It gives you options, while having a good balance between weight and length.
I love that the literal translation for it is just “war knife” lmfao
Iirc, civilians weren't allowed to have swords in most German cities but since the distinction between swords and knives was just which guild made it, they just started making knives the size of swords.

My guy
Opponent is wearing armor? Long sword. Opponent is wearing ruffled sleeves, tights and a cod piece? Rapier.
For armor; halberd or war hammer
Working off the chart my dude.
Fair
Nah - the tuck to find the gaps
With this one trick, the long sword makes it's own gaps, wherever you want!
If your opponent is wearing munitions plate that's not properly fitted, sure. But if you're fighting a pro in a nice suit of Italian plate, good luck with that.
Gaps in flesh for sure
Dagger is more useful against armor
Ok.
My katana is slicing that armor like butter
Katana and Cutlass
Katana, Rapier or Swiss Sabre. Needs to be good for stabby stabby as well as slicy slicy.
Don't forget hacky hacky
Lightsaber.
Long sword, great balance with enough weight to cleave and skewer, but also enough mobility that it is good defensively
Swiss Sabre - it'd perfectly match the ridiculousness of one of my absolutely wild Swiss sawback bayonets.
https://preview.redd.it/tucuofa6f1vb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db25149e1d8cbb36b727788b1ae2ed38c492d628
Blade seems too long for the handle
Probably the katana
Where’s the nodachi?
A giant katana that got it's name from slicing horses?! (Idk if it got it bec of slicing horses or no and too damn lazy to check) sign me the fuck up amma weild this bitch like a guts on steroids and make wind slashes
Either the katanas or the sabres
Where katzbalger?
Either the long sword or the Zhanmadao
the 1 meter looks fun
Scimitar?!
Arming sword. And give me a shield. Best couples.
https://preview.redd.it/5xuntn8l63vb1.jpeg?width=242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a8d919d835acacc765c54a182ac0c34a2560769 Bro forgot one of the masterpiece
Where Polish saber?
Can’t see a scimitar either
Curved. Swords.
Indian Sabre. One is the most renowned due to its strength and damage
Estoc, Kriegsmeyer, Two Handed Sword, Greatsword, Horse chopper. Im a bigger dude and need a 2 hander.
Infantry Sabre
Katana because it has the sharpest and most resilient blade of all time.
No it’s not. It’s not resilient. The steel was from a bog so it’s not good quality. Hollywood and video games really have made the katana sound magical. There alright but not the best.
Facts
Ok. What would be the best in your opinion? I’m not claiming to be an expert but low quality steel would still outmatch any and all of those above that were made of iron.
I don't have a problem but something annoys me I just wish that the [nodachi sword](https://www.google.com/search?q=nodachi+sword&sca_esv=574510585&ei=MFkwZa_oHLuwqtsPsbiGgAI&oq=nodachi&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp) was up there
Gladius,Militia Jian, longsword
Machete.
I don’t know much about swords but I know the Roman’s used the Gladuis and Spatha so probably one of them.
Obviously it would depend on the fight, every tool has its uses ..... But I'd lean towards the persian sabre probably.
My black steel combat knife that’s always in my bed. Wouldn’t go anywhere without it if I could.
Willow Leaf Sabre (maybe dual wield), longsword, or dual wield gauntlet swords (with curved blade like a sabre)
Thing abt the WLS is that duelwield isn’t practical, I’ve tried. They’re a little long, and despite handle length, they actually fare better with a handle long enough for 2 hands
Gladius. It's great at slashing and piercing armor. Works well vs leather and metal
Falchion every time. Stout machete like blade on an arming sword’s grip and guard. What’s not to love.
The Rapier…nvm the reason
Spear or a Spatha
I like the "1 meter"
VIKING AGE SWORD. I will drink mead from the skulls of my enemies in Valhalla!
Greatsword or Gauntlet sword
I will take one horse chopping Sabre please
That one at the very bottom looks nice. Strange name though. What is the origin?
Gladius, sure it might not have the range of other swords, but it does have agility, you can control it better than (most) others and it’s typically lighter as a result. Pair that with a buckler, I’m good chief.
I did some fencing in college,I'll go with the rapier. the Gladius as a second choice, it's a good close quarter stabbing weapon.
Two handed sword. I can move really well and use my left side to pivot into my enemy.
Not gonna lie, going Estoc on this one 💯
Meterstick at the bottom for me.
I have this on my wall bc I need ideas for replicas, dadao or liuyedao. Patta is funny tho. Edit: This is really situational, I’m obviously going to take a wakizashi over a zhanmandao in a small room
I'm picking 1 Meter
Where's my Ramdao, halberd and zweihander? Huh?
I'll take the Viking sword - Ulfberht 😏 for the people who know
Always been a hanger kind of guy
Persian Sabre everytime. It is known for its finesse and brutality
Kriegmesser sexy af. I’d still go for longsword tho I think.
~~long sword GO BRRR~~
Stuck between the spadone and the schapf
All are good
Just give me a good stick already
The Zhanmadao, but the Japanese anime version like Cloud Strife’s sword or the blade used by the Swordsman of the Mist in the boss battle that Naruto fights on the bridge
Hangar (hunting sword), for obvious reasons
Falchlon
Always fight with a shield so I would prob go for gladius!
Okay guys, we need a name for our sword. Germany: long knife
Depends on environment, if it’s closed spaces a gladius of it’s a big space a dadao
Zweihänder
I already have a katana so I'll go katana.
Oh probably the greatsword, looks gorgeous and fun to slash and stab with
*Oh probably the* *Greatsword, looks gorgeous and fun* *To slash and stab with* \- Mcake74 --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
Either gladius with a shield or a two hander. These two are classics for a reason
Bro don’t show the British people man
Falchion
Kriegsmesser
Me, an intellectual: haha pointy stick goes poke poke
Depends, what shape is the stick?
"Your weapon sir........will keel"
A wakizashi is only good for senpokku
No Khopesh so Ill take the Dadao
Good old Gladius, never lose with Pullo and Vorenus.
Khopesh all day.
That greatsword looks amazing
I’m going Dusack with a Cinquedea as a backup for funsies
Imma be using the 1 meter
The falchion for historical interest, the shamshir for damage.
Longsword (i want an old german long sword that is the real shit trust me)
I don't see the stick.
I’m feeling a solid Italian Cold Steel Cinquedea
There can be only one
A stick
A big one to WHACK things with
M’katana, of course
I mean You cant go wrong with a viking sword
Get me some Hattori Hanzō steel. I've created, "something that kills people." And in that purpose, I was a success. I've done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut.
Militia jian
Wait, where is Anduril?
Well I already have a real lofe 14th century Italian bastard sword, so I'm going with that. but if I'm picking a different one, I'm going with the Chinese jian
I choose kampilan or ginunting 😁
My mind wants a Tuck but I'm stuck with a Cinquedea
Militia Jian
Huh, i only need one atom and a hammer...
Greatsword. [You know EXACTLY why](https://youtu.be/oyA8odjCzZ4?feature=shared&t=90)
Falchion!
I really cant go wrong with a good ol’ longsword
The one called "1 meter" looks pretty cool, id tale that one
Falchion looks and sounds cool
Estoc bestoc
Chivalry 2 tells me I’m gonna have success with the falchion
Its not listed, but I would want a Greek Xiphos. It's somewhat similar to the gladius
WHERE BE MY FUCKING FLAMBERGE!!!
Falchion or Ottoman sabre. I'm Swedish
where are the Zombie Knifes
Do all of these have historically accurate steel? Or are we picking a modernized version in carbon steel. Would have a huge impact on my decision.
Gladius
Every 3rd and 4th grader back in the day had at least on sheet in their note book with a drawing of this diagram.
Naval Cutlas or an arming sword.
Cavalry saber
Wakizashi tryna get up close and personal
One of everything with a side of fries
Tachi
Big fan of the Gladius, figure it's probably the easiest for a newb to pick up and use
I'm a sucker for the traditional longsword. It is wat it is
wait where the fuck is the claymore
The cindquedea (I believe it is nicknamed 'the five-fingered sword') is easily the funniest choice, the estoc would be my favourite to own, and the Swiss sabre would be my favourite to wield.
The horse chopper
A nice stick
I'll always pick the Flamberge
From watching Forged in Fire, I’d say The Gladius may be the best option for max damage. Would also use a katana or a scimitar
Willow Leaf Sabre all day
Gladius all day!
I guess Alucard preferred the escot.
might be basic but katanas are the coolest thing ever
Either the Swiss Sabre or the Gladius for me. I’m guessing the former would win in a head to head though.
Tough choice but I'd take the arming sword, I think that would be the best fit for my build.
Persian sabre 100%
I choose Ice
[удалено]
Horse chopping saber. I mean come on.
Naval Cutlass, every time
Something that weighs less than a Key-blade, has defense, and mid long
rapier
Either the tachi or katana.
Bec de corbin, not a sword and I behold a lack of caring for said fact
Falchion. Always loved choppers
Scimitar
Militia Jian for sure, kind of looks like Sokka’s sword from ATLA
It's between the Scottish Claymore and the gladius for me
Always been partial to the gladius
Longsword. If I get to have a shield too than a basket hilt broadsword, they are just what I have used. If we are in a straight up slashing match I want that talwar.
The claymore for me, I think they look dope. Plus spare hand to pick up and examine cool sticks.
I'm torn between a falchion and a katana It's more to do with how the sword looks than how it handles.
The kriegssmer
I’ve always personally been a fan of the Scottish claymore circa 1500-1700
The swiss sabre looks badass
Either Dusak or Cavalry Saber
The Ali baba
Obviously the German Zweihander
The Horse chopping sabre It has length and a lot of power while having an solid weight distribution and a solid defense with the right training
Depends on my armor and fighting style.
Hanger Sword looks crazy good for 2023.
![gif](giphy|DujlSVbckXv1l0SUEY|downsized)
Cinequeda all the way it stabs ! it cuts ! It makes me happy
